I have stayed at the Astra Hotel in Vevey on two occasions, and my experiences have been somewhat mixed. On the positive side, the hotel’s location is excellent, right next to the train station, making it incredibly convenient. The rooms, while a bit dated, have fully functioning air conditioning (during summer), reliable hot water (albeit with inconsistent water pressure) and TVs with international channels.
However, I encountered some challenges during my stays. In the winter, the rooms became uncomfortably warm since the air conditioning is deactivated, and cooling the room required opening windows to very cold outdoor temperatures, which also let in significant noise from the station area. Additionally, I feel it would be more accommodating for a four-star hotel to provide more than one complimentary bottle of water for a three-night stay, as charging 6 CHF per bottle from the minibar feels excessive.
As for the facilities, they are functional but fairly standard. The gym is basic, the spa was not operational during my visit, and while I didn’t dine in the restaurant, it appeared popular, suggesting the food is likely good. On the other hand, the breakfast was underwhelming for the price (25 CHF), as the buffet selection was unimpressive, limited, and could be more imaginative.
Overall, the hotel offers convenience and basic comfort, but I believe some improvements could bring it more in line with four-star expectations.
