Retreating Into the Remote Stone Villages of Northwest Greece
"“Every day we look at these mountains,” Spiros Tsoumanis tells me from the terrace of Astra Inn, his restaurant and guesthouse in Papingo, a tiny village in the Epirus region of northwestern Greece. “And it's like looking at them for the first time.”"
Probably the best restaurant we visited in Greece! Everything was flawless — from the view to the food to the vibe. The place is so inviting that we couldn’t resist stopping in, even though we hadn’t planned to. So glad we took the time to enjoy it all!

My group and I stopped through here after some lunch, this was everything we wanted it to be and more. All freshly grown ingredients right in their backyard and a view to behold. Couldn’t have asked for a better lunch spot. Not to mention the family are beautiful people. Will be back again without a doubt!

An unexpected jewel in a tiny village. This is a must stay place. The local charming and peaceful atmosphere of this family run hotel and restaurant is just getting you.

We had a fantastic meal. Lots of wonderful meat dishes (paidakia were fantastic) and fresh vegetables straight from their garden.

I only ate at the restaurant but thoroughly enjoyed my experience. It was a sunny day so it was absolutely lovely to sit outside with my two dogs who were accompanying me on my travels. I ordered local cheeses, a local beer and mixed salad for lunch and each part exceeded my expectations for sure! I loved the food and the local beer was a lovely pale ale with local herbs. The service was relaxed, and very friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was very chilled as well! I found myself talking to a nearby table about their travels and origins. Perfect for this visiting Australian!

My favorite food place in Papigo delivers every time. They produce their own beer (Shepherd’s) and all ingredients are local and fresh with some creative twists … Epirus is a region famous for the pies and here I found probably the best pumpkin pie ever

My review focuses on the restaurant. The food was fine, and the setting of the inn is charming. However, the service was impatient and unwelcoming, which affected the overall experience. There are other restaurants in the village that offer a more pleasant dining atmosphere and better food.

This is for the restaurant only. What an absolutely charming place! Yes it's a tiny bit more expensive but the food is phenomenal. We had the mushroom risotto and it was to die for. Fancy olives, excellent homemade lemonade, and I got the house rosé and it was really good.
