Astray Motel Rotorua

Great budget room. We were just passing through but had a great stay. Comfy bed, great location and awesome staff. They were very accommodating. A little outdated but definitely recommend.

Booked into the Astray motel for 4 nights with a friend to see the Rotorua Blues and BBQ festival as well as doing some Mountain biking. I kept an open mind after reading some of the negative reviews and I can confirm from our own experience how pleased we were with the accommodation. The room was budget and compact and clean, which gave excellent value for our needs. Iya, the hotel manager was truly amazing and extremely helpful, she allowed us to secure and lock our bikes inside during the night, although there probably wasn't enough room for more than two bikes at a time. Location was excellent and was within the CBD, so close to the main restaurants, bars and Rotorua lake. Overall we had an excellent stay, Iya helped make it, will definitely come again!

Astray is very well located (close to all the attractions and food spots) and the workers are very nice. Although the rooms are small and can get a little hot, it’s nothing an open window and a complimentary fan can’t fix. Clean beds and a decent bathroom. Overall a nice stay.

This is not the Hilton. But it is very clean comfortable beds and right at the heart of Rotorua. It has a communal kitchen so you can cook and budget your food. It's quiete and the owner is a beautiful soul. If you want somewhere economical clean friendly and in the midst of everything this is your place.

Stayed in a twin studio at Astray Motel with my mum. Room was small but comfy and clean. Not luxury, but for the price we paid it was totally worth it. Would def recommend.

I booked in the stay with my family but the place was too dirty and smelt so we stayed elsewhere. lady refused to refund even though as pointed out under consumer guarantee act i was entitled to refund. accommodation should be of the standard expected or higher. the standard of rotorua has truly dropped. holidays there are nothing like they used to be. Its like being in a foreign country and being ripped off. This would never have happened 15 years ago.

Absolutely the worst stay in a motel ever. Beds horrible, no aircon so hot in the room. Fans don’t do anything. Not worth the price. Can’t even have a shower as it’s growing pink mold on the shower head and the floor in the room and bathroom is filthy and the window sill and ceiling is growing mold. Very disappointed. Would not recommend at all. Very dirty, sticky floor, mold growing, and the fans provided were very dirty and dusty. Couldn’t wait to get out of there.

Me and my daughters enjoyed our space, a bit on the hot side for the room. I would stay at this place again. Pricing is also good especially for two nights 😊. Give this place a chance. I look forward to staying here again.

I paid $55 for a small private room, i think it is the cheapest in rotorua, but it exceeded my expectations. very clean, and comfortable. i don't think i can find anything better at this price.

I'd give it 3.5 stars. Small room but clean and has everything you need with a bed, mini fridge, microwave, small seating area table, small bathroom. I kept bumping into the wall while showering. Only a fan for a/c. Its a good location close to the main bus terminal. You get 1 GB WiFi.

One of the better hostels I've been in on my trip to New Zealand so far. Man at desk was super nice and helpful. Rooms are clean, quiet, and have everything you need (like a desk, beds with plenty of blankets, a heater, a fridge, shelves, trash cans) the only reason I didn't give it five stars was because the stoves gave me a bit of a hard time.
