This was an excellent restaurant with a superb setting. The decor was old-fashioned elegance with a funky vibe. The history of the hotel added to the ambiance and fun conversation. We had a table right by the window which provided an outstanding view of Jerome and the red rocks of Sedona in the distance. The staff was friendly and attentive. We went for lunch. The portions were all good sizes. One of the best Caesar salads I have had. The butternut squash was very flavorful and had an extra kick to it. The vegetarian sandwich was big and could have easily been shared by two people. The fries were hot and fresh and cooked just right as was the buffalo chicken wings. They gave us fresh homemade whole grained bread with the soup and salad and the bread was fresh, soft, and delicious. We did not get dessert as we were too full but we will be back to try dinner and dessert another time. This place may be a little bit pricier but worth every penny. The free matched was a fun throwback to olden times. In addition, they had a nice outdoor patio built right against the red rocks and outdoor seating for people with pets.

Stopped here for lunch on our drive back to Phoenix from Sedona and loved it. Good service, a tasty salad, and that kitschy, cool, slightly haunting ambiance that makes the Jerome Grand Hotel so unique. Definitely worth a stop.

We arrived and it took a while to be greeted. The gentleman who greeted us seemed to be very lethargic and did not seem happy with our arrival. It was odd. We asked for a table with a view. There was an open table right near the window with a fabulous view but it needed to be cleaned from the last party that was seated there. There were no other patrons in the restaurant. He seated us in an adjacent table. When someone finally cleaned off the table, we asked to be moved to the table with the nice view. It was much better. I think the host just didn't want to have to clean off the table for us. We ordered the artichoke appetizer. The herb used on the artichoke had a strong flavor that was offputting. The accompaning sauces did not help. The salad was fresh and tasty. The atmosphere was nice and interesting. The view was really nice and there was a nice breeze coming through the open windows that we enjoyed. I'm not sure I would send others here just from the way we were greeted and felt throughout the meal. No one seemed friendly or welcoming.

Fun place. Historic and quirky. Staff super friendly. We were there only for drinks. Quite a trek to the top of the hit to find this place, and so worth the trip!

The Asylum never disappoints! We hadn't been back in awhile, but everything was amazing as usual. Don't miss the signature pumpkin soup. It's the perfect blend of spicy and sweet. The scampi was delicious as well. The ambiance of the place awesome. Old and kinda creepy, yet a thoroughly modern restaurant and the wait staff are all wonderful. And they make a killer espresso martini!

Our last visit, many years ago, was fantastic, and we were hoping to relive it. We were a bit disappointed, to be honest. While a lovely vintage vibe and beautiful view over Jerome, the Spooky vibe is gone. That's what made it unique. Now, there is one empty chair in a corner if a ghost wants to sit. After being seated, it took a long time to get water and menus. It wasn't very busy at all, 5 tables total. Our waitress did not tell us about the specials, and after hearing another waitress run through the 3, that night, I would have opted for one of them, had ours done so. The food was good, steaks were tender, but mine was definitely not medium. I did not send it back as, it did taste good and not too dry. Our $19 slice of Pecan pie did taste amazing, but not what we expected for the price. Also, our waitress said this was her favorite, then proceeded to tell the table behind us that the chocolate cake was. The cake is definitely the way to go. We did see one person send their food back, too. Really was a bit of a disappointing night.

Google
We had a nice time, felt very formal and classy. There is an elevator at the registration area to get to the Restaurant if you have problems climbing some steep stairway. The food was well presented and cooked to perfection, the drinks were very tasty!

Google
We had such a wonderful experience at this very unique restaurant. The ambiance, decore and the stuff was great. Our waitress Courtney was amazing, she made great recommendations for the food and drinks selection. She was very knowledgeable about what to do in town and recommended a few things. She made us feel welcomed. Great place. Definitely will be back.

Yelp
We were walking around Jerome and needed some lunch. We headed up to the hotel high up on the hill just to check it out. The host came out to talk to us, she was not pushy at all. She was offering us the option to come in and look around at the fabulous old Timey bar and lobby area. Her name was Joy, and her kindness helped us decide to eat lunch there and boy are we glad we did! The prices were reasonable, and we got great service from Alex! Just based on the service from these two folks make us want to return the next time we are in the area, not to mention the great food! Kudos to the Chef

Yelp
I thought the food was excellent....well the main courses were great. Bravo for a well executed duck dish. The appetizers were pretty meh. Service was nice but at the end our staff helper left crying...for what reason I have no Idea...it was not our party. Cool ambiance and probably the best place to dine in Jeroms. Bar was mediocre and the drinks watered down.

Yelp
A great place to stop in Jerome for a drink and to take in the view! They make a surprisingly incredible Bloody Mary with all the fixings! The service here was so friendly and fun. Ask them about all the random shenanigans that the hotel encounters!

Yelp
We loved grabbing a quick afternoon bite here. The menu was creative with fun named drinks and the food was delicious. The tables all had paper on them and crayons to keep you busy while you waited for your food. Our waiter was friendly and told us stories of the Asylum. Great place to stop in. Also, you can drive up to the restaurant if you don't want to walk up the hill, the walk is manageable.

Yelp
Stayed at the Grand Hotel for one night so we had to eat at the attached restaurant although I think it is operated separately from the hotel. It's small but we wanted to eat at the bar anyway. Loved the butternut squash soup, definitely a must-order starter. Shared the fish entree which was very good. Warm breads were very good with soft butter. Had the chocolate cake for dessert - it could have fed 6 people! Drinks were OK but the bar tender was a bit of a grump. Thought we might be able to chat about the history of the place with him but he was not in the mood to talk. Prices were high but we expected that. Nice place to visit once for the history. We did love the hotel!

Yelp
If you're not familiar, the Asylum Restaurant is located inside the Jerome Grand Hotel, which used to be the United Verde Hospital and is said to be haunted. While dining with friends in Jerome, we decided to stop by for a drink and see if we could sense any eerie vibes. Upon our arrival, we ascended the grand staircase and were seated inside, where Mateo served us. We asked about the restaurant's history as a hospital, and Mateo let us know the dining area we were seated in had once been the doctors' offices. We asked if he had any ghost stories, and he shared a few intriguing tales. We ordered drinks and just soaked up the atmosphere, with the stunning views and spooky ambiance. We'll definitely consider returning for dinner and possibly staying overnight at the hotel, as we've heard that's where most of the spooky stuff occurs.

Yelp
We chose Asylum at the Jerome Grand Hotel over the Haunted Burger mostly because they were not busy whereas Haunted had about a 2 hour wait for lunch. When we arrived, we realized that Asylum is a significantly more upscale dining establishment. This worked out nicely. We were seated immediately. Service was prompt, professional and friendly. I had a Bacon Lettuce Tomato Avocado Cheese sandwich on ciabatta which was fantastic and paired with fries that were OK. I should have asked them to redo the fries but, alas, I didn't. The great sandwich made it worth it for me. My grandson liked his salad and and his craft black cherry soda. My wife liked her artichoke. The view from the dining room down the Jerome hillside is breathtaking. Next time we visit Jerome with our grandson, we'll probably stay in the Jerome Grand Hotel as he loves the haunted legacy of it all.

Yelp
Great experience! The Ambiance is amazing with magnificent views. Finding it was tricky as the signage was poor. One tip: Don't be afraid to drive all the way up, even past the front door! Lots of parking up there people are scared to chance. (You'll understand when you get there) The historic building is something to see. The service was friendly and fast but I can see it will be crowded at peek times. The food was good, everyone enjoyed their different meals but nothing really jumped out. This is an "Experience" so I'd sure suggest it!

Yelp
Great place with awesome views service is amazing and drinks are great had the calamari it was really good

Gloria K.

Yelp
After ordering a drink at the bar, I said something to the bartender about wanting one of their glasses. He told me the price was something exorbitant, like $16, so I did not buy one. But the rest of the time that I was there trying to enjoy my drink, he and another person watched me like hawks, making me fell quite uncomfortable. I live in AZ and used to take visitors there, but I will NEVER go there again.

Yelp
The workout you get going up the hill for this restaurant is sooo worth it. We stopped by for lunch after having an adventurous day in town and we were starving. We were quickly seated right on the patio and we had such a magnificent view. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The menu had plenty of options and it was so hard for me to pick one dish, everything sounded good. I ended up ordering a grape soda and a burger and my friend had the buffalo wings. The food didn't take too long to come out and we were amazed by the presentation of it all. My burger was huge and smelled soo good.. The fries were perfect as they were hot and crispy. The burger was super juicy and it got to be really messy, but a good type of messy. The buffalo wings were super flavorful and had the right amount of sauce on top. The bathroom were clean and kinda eerie. I think the ghosts hang out in there. I was the only one in the bathroom at the time so I was very spooked out... Anyways I recommend this place!! Its very good and the service is great!!

Yelp
Fun, strange, campy restaurant in Jerome, AZ. The place is a former hospital and or institution settled high atop a hill overlooking the town. The food was delicious. Rack of lamb, duck and chicken tenderloin dish in cream sauce were all raves. Cocktails were tasty. Dan, our server, was very professional and friendly. The only let down was the calamari appetizer. Somewhat bland and not much on the plate. We thought this spot was a fun diversion from Sedona.

Yelp
Our server was excellent! She was dressed as an elephant probably for the Halloween month. Her suggestions work great and her personality was perfect. The problem we had was with the prices. The portions were small and the food was not excellent especially for how much they charged us. The specialty drinks were perfect and the ambience was amazing!

Yelp
Very good drinks!! Perfect view of the town. Great ambience. The service was excellent.

Yelp
We had the greatest service we have had in a long time especially on such a special evening of my husband's and my 12th wedding anniversary. Mateo was an amazing server giving us 5 star service. He was completely and otherly amazing. He gave us the best restaurant server in a very long time. He is awesome and I hope the next time we come to Jerome that we can request him as our server. Thanks again, Mateo!

Yelp
Wow. Another great food and beverage experience here in Jerome. We are spending the weekend in the Cottonwood area and decided to have our anniversary dinner here. So glad we did. After a steep drive up from the main town, and parking along a steep drive...we ascended the steps up to the restaurant to enjoy the views and dinner. We met Kenzie our server and she provided excellent service. We started with drinks and settle on the Tofu and squash pasta dish for my wife, and I have the shrimp and linguine entree. I also had a green salad before my entree. Side bar: the wheat grain bread served here is to die for...kinda funny for a ghost town, right? Back to your regularly scheduled review. No ghosts, just lots of delicious food and early 19th century atmosphere. The tables are very nicely set. My shrimp was perfectly prepared, crisp and light in the tangy tomato infused sauce. Very light with a side of al dente veggies. Once we finished dinner we ordered desserts. Vanilla ice cream for my wife, and the blackberry brûlée cheesecake for me. Sooo good. Crisp caramelized sugar on top drizzled with blackberry sauce, whipped cream, and piped with a crunchy vanilla topping. See the bread review above. Same here....prep my tombstone. All in all a five star experience and well worth the steep step work out. We will be back.

Yelp
Had a Delicious meal and cocktail. Service was spot on and the ambiance was really relaxing

Yelp
The Asylum never disappoints... the ambience, the service, the drinks are always on point. Head to the bar and start your day with the perfect Bloody Mary. You will not be disappointed. Ask for Olivia...

Yelp
I am really excited to share about my experience here. This was one of the top places that I wanted to visit when coming to the Sedona area which is found in the city of Jerome. Nestled high up on the hill in an old town that is haunted and has a history for being a deserted ghost town is a beautiful restaurant that used to be an asylum. In fact, the name, is the Asylum Restaurant. The two guys that were with me purchase the burger which they said it was one of the best burger that they have had and it really "hit the spot". I had the Caesar salad, which was delicious and had a serving of micro greens on top of it very trendy. The restaurant staff was very friendly, and our food came out pretty quick. The restaurant filled up around lunch hour.

Yelp
What a fun place! The decorations and atmosphere are fun. The staff were all really nice. The food was good. The tables were covered with butcher paper and they had crayons sitting there so everyone had fun with that. The only bad thing I can say about it is the scary street you have to drive in to get there freaks me out! But I'm glad we braved it.
google avatar

Tiffany G.

Yelp
Everything about our dining experience was wonderful. A beautiful drive up to the hotel. A table with an amazing view. Our waiter was on top of it the minute we sat down. He made great recommendations. We enjoyed baked Brie, filet mignon, and pork tenderloin. Unfortunately we cleaned our plates and did not leave room to try the desserts. Next time we are in Sedona we will definitely visit again.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in for a Sunday lunch and were pleased by our overall experience. Upon entering, the gentleman opened the door for us and grabbed our menus. We were immediately seated. Our server was super sweet and quick. We both ordered the spicy buffalo chicken tenderloin salad. The chicken was moist and perfectly cooked. The greens were fresh and crisp. The blue cheese dressing was delicious. Especially when you soak it up with the "LaBrea" bread. I wish there was more chili walnuts and fruit salad because it was incredibly flavorful and really added texture. It was a bit pricey so be prepared. We'll be back though.

Yelp
Great place to eat when in Jerome. The food has always been delicious. This time tried the mushroom bacon burger. When the weather permits, sit outside on their patio to enjoy the beautiful view of the valley. Staff is always very friendly and fun. Another plus is it's attached to the Grand Hotel so very easy to just walk next door. I also recommend the butternut squash soup!
google avatar

Sharon H.

Yelp
Staff were exceptionally hospitable and went out of their way to accompany our party of 4. Food was delicious! Ambiance was old, a little creepy and historical, which is the kind of place I like! We want to return to Jerome to explore the rest of the town more.
google avatar

Deb S.

Yelp
We sat on the patio for drinks, and didn't eat - but the food smelled and looked delectable! Drinks were perfectly mixed and poured, and service was very friendly. Their patio is dog-friendly - thank you very much!! The view is unbelievably beautiful and the history of this place is awesome. Read up on the Hotel while you gaze at the scenery and enjoy the ambience.
google avatar

Yelp
Came to the bar area for a drink on a Wednesday afternoon and found 5 seats surrounding the bar. Very cool old school atmosphere within the hotel and definitely a destination on its own when you come to visit Jerome. We enjoyed our drinks and the bar tender was very friendly!

Yelp
Good food. Good experience. Pretty good service! Lamb was prrry good, the potato came with it was great ! So yummy.

Yelp
Oh my! For a special date or just to treat yourself the Asylum located in the Jerome Hotel is this spot. If you are lucky enough to set near the windows you will have a wonderful view of the Verde Valley. Have I said "Oh my" yet. The menu has many wonderful choices with a lot of diversity. The wine list is excellent! The staff is wonderful! We had eaten a deli plate at AZ Strong Hold a bit earlier, so we were looking from something to share. We got the humus plate and the shrimp cocktail. We were not disappointed. The shrimp were at the perfect temperature (this very important to enhancing the taste). The sauce was excellent. The humus plate had all kinds of goodies on it and it was large. I, also, enjoyed the simple fact that place was not noisy. We had a wonderful conversation. Special note: If you can be there at sunset you will not be disappointed. Our serve was a delight. Very attentive, but not intrusive. Very quick to notice when the wine in the glasses got low. Please treat yourself and a loved one to this wonderful experience.

Theresa B.

Yelp
The server was rude at first and then tried to better up afterwards. Had the hamburger with onions bacon that was very good. Overall the restaurant's fair.

Jett M.

Yelp
We have been to the Asylum restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. The food is outstanding, the view is unbelievable, the service is the best in town! I love this place! It's obvious the owners have thought of everything, the amount of detail and thought they have put into the everything is so apparent, the menu, the overall dining experience. The entire staff is amazing.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
We stopped by here mostly for the historic nature of the hotel ex-hospital but the closest you can get is the restaurant/bar without being a guest of the hotel. It was sold out the weekend we were coming alas, stopping in for a drink. The food menu was pretty limited in the mid afternoon and a bit pricey. The drinks were priced fairly average. I tried a blue lemonade and it was okay. The decor was fun and the staff was nice. If you aren't lucky enough to snag a room here and love haunted history, it's worth a stop.
google avatar

Yelp
Found a cool little lunch stop, hilltop in Jerome. Nice views, good food and a couple spooks here and there given it's haunted. Check it out if you're passing through. Roasted Butternut Squash Soup - Garnished with Cinnamon Lime Crema and Green Onions, I really enjoyed this soup. Texture was perfect, warm, and mad flavor. Great starter. Turner Family Farms Of New Zealand Calamari - Damn!! What a mouthful for an appetizer. Anyways, bad picture, good flavor, came with 3 sauces, the Garlic Aioli was my fav but, not too crunchy. Decent app. Char-Grilled Flank Steak and Cheddar Melt - Loved this Sandwich, Steak came out medium cooked, great does, another good order. Hit the spot for sure. Gardening Naked Sandwich - All veggie sandwich, actually really good but neat they had a vegan option. If it's your thing it worth the order. Boylans Soda - Vintage Style Soda Pop, went with the Birch Beer Root Beer. Can't go wrong with that and the Sammie. Fire! Creme Brûlée Cheesecake - Amazing!! Cheesecake is always my fav so, this little treat hit the spot. Must order if you want dessert. Give it a go!!

Yelp
We dined her for lunch with our sons. My husband ate here 13 years or so ago with a group on a business trip. He raved about the butternut squash soup. We ordered the soup and calamari to start. The soup was delicious, but he remembered it being a bit more spicy years ago. The calamari and dipping sauces were delicious. And the recipe is online and we'll make it usually once a year. Three of the four of ordered burgers and fries or fruit. I ordered the turkey sandwich with fruit. It was delicious! It wasn't something I'd normally order. The service was wonderful. I'd say 4-4.5 starts. Lovely view and we walked down the hallway to see some vintage pics and the stairwell to the hotel lobby.

Yelp
First time in. We wanted to stay at the hotel but the rooms we could afford were all booked. The place does have excellent views. The food is really good too, and our server was super down to earth and easy to talk to. We were surprised how few people were there for lunch but the town has many options and it's a fun place to explore. When looking online, it doesn't seem like there is much parking but we found lots of additional parking, as long as you don't mind a little walk up a steep hill. For us it's no problem but I could see for some how it might be. The road to the hotel is one lane, and narrow, for inexperienced drivers or for those with wider vehicles. Really the only drawback to this experience was a male server who walked out the front door to the restaurant to hawk a loogie over the railing. Made our appetizer not so appetizing. But we would otherwise return if we were in the area.
google avatar

Jessica E.

Yelp
We love to take out of towners here for the view! Food is great and good amount of wine and cocktails. Because it's up the hill it usually has seating even when the rest of Jerome is busy. The food always delivers.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
Popped in for a little lunch today at the bar today. The Pepsi from the fountain was flat and I pointed it out to the bartender who was serving us. I had a Stella Artois on tap. It's what I would expect. The hot pastrami and Swiss was excellent! This is worth ordering. The fries that accompanied my sandwich were not hot and disappointing. Only the small thinnest of fries were crispy. Great sandwich. Good service.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
I love love love the Asylum Restaurant! When I'm in Jerome I always stop here. We went for dinner and sat outside on the patio so we could take in the views! You cannot beat the ambiance - best views in Jerome! Also, the food and service was great! I ordered the steak and they prepared it exactly how I wanted it.
google avatar

Lori L.

Yelp
Good food, nice views crazy story . When Jerome was a mining town is was the hospital and insane asylum!
google avatar

Grizzly B.

Yelp
My daughter and granddaughter were visiting from out-of-town so we took them to Jerome to sightsee and play tourist. We decided to eat a late lunch/early dinner at the Asylum. The meals we had were all delicious. The service was excellent as well. A word of warning, don't plan on eating here unless you are willing to pry open your wallet. The meals are definitely pricey but we went in knowing that the bill would be high so no complaints there. My granddaughter was enamored by the place so she wants to come back to the Asylum the next time she visits (the girl has expensive tastes ). The view from the huge windows in the restaurant is great. You can see the red rocks of Sedona and Humphreys Peak in the distance.

Katy N.

Yelp
Incredible view. Quiet and intimate outdoor dining. Food and service was great as well.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Come here for the view, not the food. It's just super average. The mushroom burger was fine but not great, the salmon lacked flavor, the cocktails were the squash soup was good but unexpectedly spicy. Only ate half the burger (because it wasn't beet good) and the server didn't say anything of course. But very nice views.

Matt D.

Yelp
2 starts for location but the food was bad. Rotten lettuce in the salad (see photo) and chewy chicken. Pointed out the rotten lettuce to staff and he basically shrugged his shoulders. No offer of refund for the salad or apology from a manager. Bad food, bad service.
google avatar

Van H.

Yelp
Fun place for a drink, lunch, or maybe even dinner. We enjoyed our craft cocktails and had a calamari appetizer that was very good and unique. The sauces were house made and interesting. One was a wasabi aioli that was really tasty. We had a burger, pastrami, and chicken sandwiches. All were very good, but the burger was the best! Fries were house cut and tasty. The building is very old and has a lot of history. It gives off a small town haunted type of vibe. There are stories it is haunted, but we didn't see any ourselves...but our drinks did empty very quickly. Skip the line at the Haunted Hamburger down the road. Better views, funky vibe, and great food - especially for a small historic mining town!
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Staying a few days here and this place cam highly recommended. Very fun following the phone directions here, but plenty of parking. My wife ordered the Ribeye and I got the special which was beef medallions. So tasty. Great views while sitting outside, great drinks, great friends, great food. Very tempted to come back here before we leave.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
We drove up to Jerome today to eat here. Apparently this restaurant was formerly a hospital and (actual) asylum. You could feel the history going inside of the building. We enjoyed- Straight jacket spritz- This was very bitters forward with bubbles on the tail end. Very refreshing! Butternut squash soup-this soup is very complex-you go through a journey of butternut squash-lime-green onion aftertaste. The bread it came with was great too. Gardening naked sandwich-I ordered mine minus cheese and tomatoes. It didn't need it. This was refreshing, complete with fries! We would love to come back. There was so much to try and this was a great beginning to explore Jerome!

Heather R.

Yelp
Visited Jerome for Mothers Day and went in for a drink and appetizer. The staff asked where we wanted to sit and we chose the bar. Apparently this was too much to figure out how to get a server to our table. We had three different people come up to us saying either we could only order drinks or had to chose a different table. After the last one we chose to leave. Terrible service, didn't even stay to get a drink.
google avatar

Marty W.

Yelp
Made reservations 2 days prior and when we got they had no record of it the hostess was very short with us and tried to push us off to dining at the bar. The bartender was nice and ready to serve but that wasn't where we were wanting to eat our dinner.
google avatar

Danielle C.

Yelp
This was a trek to get to- it's in the hotel at the top of Jerome. The servers were lackluster. The music was loud. The prices turned us off altogether. On top of there being nothing reasonably priced, you are charged $6 to split a plate of food and nearly 4% extra to use a credit card. We ordered a sandwich and a salad. The food was great but honestly not worth the walk or the price tag.
google avatar

Madison C.

Yelp
Best experience and wonderful view and food and staff. I can't wait to stop by this place again!
