We just visited At Home in the Tropics for the second time in four years, and it’s like coming home to family. Jess and Mark, the owners, are the kindest people, and they are very accessible for anything you could possibly need. The property is gorgeous and well maintained, with renovated pool area, beautiful tropical plants and trees surrounding the canopy covered sitting area. Plenty of shade and sun out there. Self service of coffee, tea, and water always available in the outdoor kitchen. It feels like the perfect place to decompress from life—even if you just stayed here the whole time, perfect relaxation space. Short walk to the Main Street with so many restaurants and bars, and Jess and Mark give great recommendations for local cuisine.

This was the nicest bed and breakfast we've ever stayed in hands down. We are not even people that typically like BnBs, but this was truly like staying in a home and feeling so comfortable and that you are being taken care of while in a far away place. We've been to St Thomas before and have been to a couple resorts, and I can't say enough good things about the experience at At Home in Tropics - from the delicious breakfast home cooked by the owner, to the perfectly kept room and facility. The location is perfect in walking distance to Charlotte Amalie which has a nearby ferry station with the most amazing 30-minute ferry ride to Cruz Bay in St. John. You can walk to restaurants so you don't get tired of the same lousy resort food and annoying music and vacationers. The other people who stayed here were so respectful and it was the perfect amount of quiet but also laidback and not uptight lodging. The views are breathtaking/spectacular! We had a king room with a large balcony and you could see the bay from not only the balcony but also lying in the bed. We slept great here which is rare on vacation...I feel like there are always sounds and disturbances at other hotels and we travel often so not picky, but I would say that if we come back to St. Thomas that this would be our first choice for a place to stay. We ate at this great restaurant with the nicest staff and most delicious food - Surf and Turf Bistro, in walking distance. Super close to other locations too such as Brewer's Beach, the airport is very convenient, and Maegen's Bay Beach. We thought the owner's were the nicest people and also not overly involved which was great. We are grateful for starting our day with a delicious meal, warm hospitality, and excellent recommendations for things to do. Do not hesitate to book!

Just spent five nights at this beautiful spot! Mark & Jess were wonderful hosts. Our room was very clean, new towels and sheets daily, home cooked breakfast daily, and the views were phenomenal!! We rented a jeep which I highly recommend. The best meals we had were at fish bar and Caribbean fish market. Mark & Jess gave recommendations to us daily with where to go and eat which was very helpful. We can’t wait to come back!

Stayed here for a week on our honeymoon and it was simply perfect! Jess, Mark, and Lauren were so accommodating and helpful. We loved the yummy breakfast and being greeted by 2 furry friends! The view was fantastic and we enjoyed seeing what cruise ships were docked in the harbor. The location was great and we found it really helpful to be able to walk to restaurants, shops, and tourist attractions. This was an unbelievable bed and breakfast! We will be staying here again for sure they helped us find so many fun activities and food to eat and how to avoid the over crowded beaches.

The staff were phenomenal and the breakfast each day was something I looked forward to. The rooms were bright, airy, and comfortable. I loved sitting out at the pool, as well. The amenities were plentiful and I appreciated the time the staff took to share recommendations and tips for navigating the area, as well.

My wife and I just had our honeymoon here. We spent a week here and loved it. The location offers easy walking to Charlotte Amalie and quick access to the mountains via car. The breakfast was great and something different all 7 days. The view of the bay was great as well. It can be a little hard to find if someone parks in front of their sign but just look for the white steps going past the governor's office.

Mark, Jess and Lauren do magnificent jobs as hosts! They're very welcoming and offer helpful insights into getting around the islands, scheduling taxi pickups, and understanding the local culture. Their guest rooms are very clean, everything works, premises are safe, and breakfasts are delicious!! The view from our balcony of the harbor/bay and many islands was beautiful. The only negative was the weather---heavy rains before and after arrival increased the humidity levels (but room AC was excellent) and rain caused considerable runoff reducing ocean clarity. Taxis are expensive from the airport to hotels and to ferries. We walked throughout the historic district and harbor to sight-see and for dinners, and enjoyed the exercise going up and down the very steep steps and hills. Our best dinner and price was at nearby Greenhouse Restaurant & Bar, and the worst dinner and price(!) was at Greengos Caribbean Cantina. Tap & Still is a great deal too (both on St. Thomas and St. John), if you like tasty burgers and fries. Arawak (recommended by Mark & Jess) did a great job with our kayak/snorkel tour finding calm seas, clear water, beautiful beaches and many, many fish and coral on St. John.

We have done island resorts in the past, but we wanted a different experience this time. This historic bed and breakfast was perfect for a relaxing and "at home in he tropics" week. The breakfasts were delicious. The room was clean and bright with a magnificent view, and everything you needed (beach towels, chairs, sunscreen, etc.) was included.

Yelp
Ok so I could go on about how amazing the owners Jess and Mark are. Or how truly gorgeous the property is. And that they go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable as possible and content. But then you will think they paid me or I'm related to them. Neither of which are true. Jess and Mark truly are the consummate owners who care about their guest, their guest experience, and helping you make memories for a lifetime. The breakfast they serve are fantastic. The scenic views are breathtaking. The rooms are CLEAN, Quaint, and gorgeous. The pool is clean and warm. They are patient and will answer the 10,000 questions you are sure to have. I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place. And if you're lucky they may introduce you to Reno and Ocho. Seriously, for the price, location, and most assuredly the hospitality, this is a hidden gem in the Caribbean. Thank you Jess & Mark. Jason & Rebecca

Yelp
What a lovely B&B! We stayed there while visiting St. Thomas, and the room (Room 2) was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The property owners are so kind and are wonderful hosts. Every morning, I looked forward to sipping delicious coffee, dining on tasty breakfasts and enjoying soothing ocean views from the deck. We will definitely stay there again when we return to St. Thomas. Thank you!

Yelp
This BNB was named perfectly. It truly is a home away from home while in the Caribbean. I have a hard time relaxing, there are just too many things to see in a new place, but Mark & Jess are miracle workers. I can say my trip was not only an adventure, but due to them being phenomenal hosts, I really did come home relaxed as well. I am not a big breakfast person, I typically just skip it and go for right to lunch and dinner. However, Jess is a fantastic chef and I essentially licked my plate clean every morning with the wonderfully fresh and delicious plates that were served. Some standouts were her spicy grape salad, nut pancakes, smoothie bowl, frittata, and my absolute favorite the khachapuri. The second best part to breakfast was the company. Getting to rendezvous with the head of guest services, Ocho, and the head of security, Reno, (their two pups) was an extra special treat each morning. Mark answered every question asked, and then some, and always had wonderful suggestions on what to do and see. The other guests on the property were lovely and we had a wonderful time chatting with them and exchanging travel tips. I never thought a trip to St Thomas would convince me that I needed to visit Botswana, but here we are! We stayed in two rooms during our visit #4 and #2. Both were lovely, very clean and extremely comfortable. #4 had beautiful views out the window and was smaller, but just the right size. #2 was a larger room and had a gorgeous little balcony that offered another vantage point to the island. Due to unexpected rain storms the couple of days we were there, we didn't make much use out of the private little deck. In terms of location, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. I am a hiker and I love to explore new places by foot.. but a good majority of the island is not walkable. Most roads do not have sidewalks, except for the Charlotte Amalie and cruise ship areas. This BNB is located just above the governors home and the beautiful gardens that accompany it. You can walk down through the stepped gardens to the waterfront, restaurants and shops. 99 steps is just a block or so away and I highly recommend checking out the beautiful sunset view one night during your stay! All in all, I highly recommend Mark & Jess' place for anyone traveling to the island.

Yelp
My husband and I took a 30th Anniversary trip through the USVI's. Our first stop was St Thomas and we decided to try a BNB close to the historical district. This BNB is the center of the historical district! We could easily walk down to the old town and along the waterfront to Yacht Haven. Mark and Jess are wonderful hosts and answered all our questions. Our room was charming, well equipped and had a powerful AC which made for good nights sleep. Great place to stay!!!

Yelp
I highly recommend this place to stay while visiting St. Thomas. The location is prefect for exploring and is in the center of everything in walking distance as well. The scenery is beautiful and the owners are very accommodating. They give you suggestions of the best local restaurants and excursions to do as well. The breakfast is amazing and good at the hotel which the owner is the chef. She is amazing. You won't be disappointed staying here.

Yelp
This bed and breakfast was a breath of fresh air. The hosts were AMAZING and gave EXCELLENT RECOMMENDATIONS! Besides that it felt like a home away from home but just in TROPICAL PARADISE! The breakfast was also DELICIOUS! I'm planning on returning for the holidays!

Yelp
Island of Tranquility in the Heart of Charlotte Amalie: At Home in the Tropics is an amazing gem! Located a short walk from Black Beard's castle, and nestled within a series of other historical sites, Mark and Jessica's inn offers the best of many different worlds. The central location on Government Hill is a short ride from the airport. It's central location offers easy access to nearby shopping and dining in central Charlotte Amalie, Havensight, and Frenchtown. From 5-star restaurants to beach bars, and diamonds to trinkets, everything is within easy reach. Several great beaches are also close by, including Magen's Bay, and the location provides a great jumping off point for other USVI and BVI adventures. The inn itself - originally constructed in 1803 as a barracks for the Danish government - is a unique historical treasure with incredible views. Pictures only capture a fraction of the beautiful serenity that surrounds the property. Daytime views are filled with the tranquil activity of bay: cruise ships, catamarans, and sea planes. The evenings offer a peaceful panoramic of the city lights. These views are accessible from all of the rooms, as well as the spacious pool deck (one of our favorite features). Mark and Jessica are amazing hosts, and the breakfast experience is very special, offering a truly personal taste of the islands. Johnny cake breakfast sandwiches! Need I say more? Both are available to answer any questions and provide detailed information and recommendations to help you make the most of your stay. We felt most welcome as guests within their beautiful inn. Our only regret is not spending more time here. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
If I could I would give this Bed and Breakfast more than 5 stars. It is worth more stars than this site will allow me to put. I did my research before choosing At Home In The Tropics. I read the reviews through tripadvisor site and some of the reviews surprised me. One person wrote that it was expensive. I must say this Bed and Breakfast is worth every penny and MORE!! We had a long flight and it was hot and our taxi dropped us off at the wrong area. Meeting the Governor upon our arrival who gave us directions and he knew exactly where we were going and knew both Pam and Matt. I was very impressed. He welcomed us and the simple fact that he knew this couple running the bed and breakfast was a big plus in my book. We arrived a little early and Pam ( owner) greeted us with the most bubbly up beat happy personality and she was such a positive person to be around. After losing a very special person in my life just the way she greeted us was enough to make me want to stay. Very welcoming... This Bed and Breakfast is... A. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! B. Sensational C. Immaculate, well kept D. View is breath taking, surreal, something you would see in a movie scene. E. Rooms are Shabby Sheik, Classic,Beautiful tiling in the shower and room. ( just to add a little bit about the room, each day we were here we would leave for the day and come back to a freshly made bed with clean linens and towels F. BREAKFAST... uuuummm WoW! WoW! WoW! I mean WOW!!! waking up and having the most beautiful breakfast each morning was not only a beautiful luxury, but the way it was presented each morning with fresh coffee and the most outrageous delicious fresh fruit and a different themed breakfast each morning was amazing. Pam really knows how to cook. You can tell she puts so much effort and love and care into her preparation. I cried my last morning I did not want to go! We were spoiled for the most amazing 6 days staying here. G. Wireless Internet!! H. Honor Bar- They have a great system called the "Honor Bar" This is a brilliant idea. You can grab a soda, wine, sparkling water, vitamin water just a hop skip and a jump away from your room. You write it down on the "honor bar" list and at the end of your stay you get settled out. I loved this. It was so convenient and the prices were awesome. They also carried one of my favorite wines. You could buy a bottle or simply just have a glass. ( I also want to add the complimentary basket of snacks. This was very nice to have the option for a bag of chips or a granola bar when you have the munchies. Tea & coffee. You will not find this at other hotels this was a def perk and plus and much appreciated.) I. Matt... Matt deserves his own line. He is also the (owner) He has a beautiful energy, always smiling each morning and helping out with breakfast and singing and has a beautiful heart and his energy is amazing. He makes you feel welcome. He takes pride in his business. He is always working on the property and he pays attention to detail. I of course can go on and on about how wonderful this place is. If you are even thinking about going to St. Thomas. I highly recommend At Home In The Tropics. You will not be disappointed. The Rooms are beautiful and clean and the view and location of the property are just perfect. Pam and Matt pay close attention to detail. Everything you think you would need at a hotel you have here and MORE. They are helpful with giving you tips on where to go. They are super organized and take pride in what they do and at the end of your trip you will not want to leave. I was sad to say good-bye. I had the most amazing 6 NIGHTS here. (we booked 4 and stayed an extra 2). I would love to and look forward to going back. Thank you very much Pam & Matt for taking such good care of us while we were in St. Thomas you both are truly amazing and may have to expand so that when we can come back you can accommodate us :) I found this bed and breakfast through tripadvisor (they have beautiful positive reviews as well for At Home In The Tropics.

Yelp
An absolute wonderful place with great hosts!! Our group last year had three of the four rooms and all were delighted. Very clean, exceptional breakfast, fantastic location, great recommendations (beach, jewelry, food) ... I could go on. We'll stay again!! Thanks Pam & Matt.
