I believe a business has a chance to show what they are made of when there is a problem. We were booked for 4 nights in the Key West suite, and on the first night there was a plumbing problem and of course it was late enough that I felt bad about calling! But Tim answered and got right on it. They tried diligently to fix it that evening, and just couldn't. They offered a move to a different room, or stay in the suite with a workable but less than optimal fix. We chose to stay - we really wanted the suite with friggie, microwave, and private balcony! What happened the next morning was amazing, we went to breakfast and came back to find the toilet not just fixed but completely replaced, lock, stock, and barrel. Kudos to the owner and staff!
The Key West suite - perfect if you want quiet and privacy, king bed with oh so comfy sheets, a separate sitting area with a mini fridge and microwave, and a private outdoor sitting area so you can have an after-golf cigar without bothering anyone. It's above the carriage house and separate from the main house but just a short walk across the parking and into the back door for breakfast. Maybe my only downside was the towels, they were an upgraded version but not necessarily to my liking, but that's just me.
Breakfast? Oh my so well done! Each day breakfast at 9 AM was different, one day was French toast and sausage, another was their version of eggs benedict in individual ramekins, and another was a goat cheese and spinach omelet. All main courses had sides of fruit, or yogurt, or granola, or crisps, or all of these! The week we were there a new chef had just started, everything was just wonderfully prepared and presented.
Location - very near the Flagler College/previously Ponce de Leon Hotel and the Lightner Museum. Easy walking distance (half mile) to the Castillo de San Marcos and St. George Street for shopping. A walkable 2 miles to the St Augustine Lighthouse. The nearest dinner restaurant is the Ice Plant, barely 2 blocks away. Parking and access was very good, it's on the west side of the historical area so easy to get in and out from the highways/interstate without driving through old town.
