The Atatürk Cultural Center commonly called the AKM, is a concert hall, theatre and cultural centre running along the eastern side of Taksim Square in Beyoğlu, Istanbul. Originally opened in April 1969, it was closed for renovation works in 2008, but was ultimately demolished in 2018 and rebuilt in 2021 as a state-of-the-art cultural complex. In October 2021, it reopened to the public after a 13-year interval. The new AKM building was designed by Murat Tabanlıoğlu, the son of Hayati Tabanlıoğlu who had designed the original AKM building. Werner Sobek AG was responsible for the facade engineering, creating a transparent facade that opens the building to Taksim Square. It's a great place for anyone who wants to explore Turkish culture in a sophisticated and inspiring environment

The Atatürk Center is a cultural hub that beautifully combines history, art, and modern architecture. It’s a great spot for anyone looking to explore Turkish culture in a sophisticated and inspiring setting. ➕ Stunning modern architecture blending with historical significance Offers a variety of cultural events, exhibitions, and performances Peaceful atmosphere, ideal for cultural exploration Well-maintained and beautifully designed spaces Central location, easily accessible for visitors ➖ Can be a bit formal, so it might not be the most casual place to visit Events can get crowded, so plan your visit accordingly ❤️: Yes, absolutely! If you enjoy cultural experiences and architectural beauty, this place is a must-visit!

A very interesting building. Just walk in and see what’s going on. Apart from concerts I have seen very interesting expeditions and displays. The shops and cafes are all well worth visiting.

I have attended many performance in Ataturk cultural center. It has really good athmosfer here. You can follow opera, theatre and ballet performances from IBB web site. The place is on center of taksim square. Transportation is really good for this place. It is convenient to come here from many places

You can easily visit the “An Adventure from Painting to Ceramics” exhibition, which consists of engravings, drawings, posters, lithographs and photographs of Pablo Picasso, one of the greatest painters of the 20th century, all original and approved by their heirs. Tickets are 250₺, no queue over the weekend.

It’s one of the best libraries I’ve ever visited, filled with endless art and cultural books where you can spend hours and even days exploring.

We're back to the weekend activity center of our youth. Now it's time to return to a central place where all branches of art are practiced!

The architecture inside is not what you would expect when you see the external facade. From the outside it’s all straight likes but once seated in the opera place, it’s all curved — this makes it quite unique. Came here to see the ballet and the dance company was average. The orchestra however was great. -1 star, however, because the acoustics are not par with that you would expect from a much newer opera place. All in all, I would return here again to see another show.

Yelp
A wonderful cultural complex. A short walk from Taksim metro station. I had a wonderful evening watching the state ballet company. The female Chinese principal is worth catching. The sold out futuristic performance stage has good acoustics with surround wood paneling. A very supportive audience. The prices are more than reasonable and I hope it continues to attract the public. I highly recommend visiting their website, which has a nice complement of performances. It leans toward the classical arts during my visit. However, the complex also hosts a library, gallery, instrument display, etc. I plan to return during the day for their other departments. As most venues in Turkey they use a third party to process their orders where you must create an account and need a Turkish phone number. I believe this is your only option as I oddly did not notice a box office. The online platform only charges one lira service fee. I tried calling and speaking to a security guard regarding other options without success.
