Athenaeum Boekhandel Spui en Nieuwscentrum

A truly independent book store that has a wide variety of magazines, zines, art books, and books! You can easily get lost exploring the multiple rooms, and will likely be leaving with at least one book (and plenty more titles to add to your to be read list). The staff were amazing, and I hope to visit again or find them online!

Great selection of books and magazines, also from foreign countries such as Japan.

A bookshop were you will get lost, but at least there are a lot of sofas and books to keep you company while you find your way to the door. The interior is the creation of a mad man. Up, down and middle floors all connected together. It has a nice section with discounted books in one of the down levels. Weird books and various items give the shop a more “independent” kind of style.

Great selection, probably my fav in Amsterdam, nice to just wander around and flip through the titles. I bought a great zine here !

Extremely helpful staff: I was looking for a book which this store doesn’t have; yet the staff gave me two other bookstores to look up the book

I accidentally bought the wrong school book so I came back to change it and the one I needed turned out to be cheaper. The cashier refused to send the money back to my bank account despite the fact that I had paid by card. Even worse, I have specifically asked if I'd get the 10% student discount like I did on the other book. She said that I would, but didn't apply it. UvA students, beware of these lying scammers!

I walked past this place and decided to check it out. Its a really nice bookstore and I was able to find something for myself. They have so much here.
