Where to Stay in Athens When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"Right in the center of everything, this midrange hotel offers many rooms with great Acropolis views (be sure to ask), a rooftop terrace bar, simple but adequately sized rooms with flatscreen TVs and air conditioning, a daily buffet breakfast with Greek and American options, and free tea and coffee in the lobby all day." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Athens (Updated 2025)

"Located in Plaka, I found the Athens Center Square Hotel to have a minimalist design with welcoming pastel colors and most rooms offering a view of the Acropolis (so be sure to ask for one). Rooms are simple but decently sized with flat-screen TVs, desks, mini fridges, and air conditioning, and there’s a rooftop terrace and bar with good views. The complimentary buffet breakfast is delicious and quite expansive with Greek and American options, and there’s free coffee and tea in the lobby all day." - Matthew Kepnes

Athens Center Square Hotel is a wonderful place to stay! It’s very well located, with clean and comfortable rooms of a good size. The beds are super cozy, and the lighting is excellent. The staff truly go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. "Miguel", our friend who speaks many languages, and Andreas (who checked us out on Friday at 11 a.m.), as well as another lovely colleague whose name I unfortunately didn’t get, were all incredibly kind and friendly. Cristina from the reservations team was amazing — she helped make my friend’s birthday a truly memorable moment. The breakfast was delicious, natural, and varied — always fresh, with plenty of options. The restaurant team was efficient and made sure tables were clean and the buffet well stocked at all times. Athens is a beautiful city, and this hotel made our experience even better — clean, well located, with a wonderful view of the Acropolis from the rooftop. The hardworking and welcoming staff made us feel completely at home. Thank you all for your warmth and kindness!

The hotel is in a good location. Easy walk|To a lot of attractions The rooms are average , as we are Aussie for what we paid it was alon of money!! Great views from the roof top bar, lovely staff and breakfast was great. What I saw from my window looking down was horrible, it put me off Athens completely. I feel|Sorry that the hotel|And staff put uo with this, where are the Police!!!

Basic three star hotel with great location and fantastic staff. Just off Athenas street the hotel is convient to the major tourist attractions. We never had to walk more than 30 minutes to anything. Rooftop deck has spectacular views of the Acropolis and evening drinks hosted by the most friendly Elsa. The rooms are basic and have very little storage. A small hanging closet and a few small shelves. The bathroom is tidy and the shower/bath has plenty of hot water and towels. A complementary morning breakfast buffet should please everyone with hot and cold selections. The cappuccino machine is fabulous. The hotel street is also a market/bazaar street. Lots of activity going on by day but quiet at night. The neighborhood looks scary with graffiti everywhere but busy with tourists day and night. For the price a good value.

Had a great time staying in this hotel whilst visiting Greece to watch Scotland. The hotel is in a bit of a quirky area and surrounded by interesting markets. There is also an area behind the hotel in the lanes where you can stumble across quaint restaurants. The accommodation is not 5 star, but not advertised as so. It was very good and clean, but we were not there to spend time in the room! There is a roof bar that opens most evenings, but nice evening to head up there during the day to enjoy the sun and the view!

I read previous reviews on different platforms before booking this hotel for a 2 night stay. I do wonder if I am in a parallel universe to other reviewers. My expectation was a quiet clean hotel in central Athens near the markets with a good breakfast. The reality was a noisy hotel in a very downbeat area. I had a room on the fifth floor facing the markets. The hotel has placed lighting all round the frontage of each room and level which the curtains do not black out. The market starts up maybe 5am and that’s without incessant alarms going off throughout the night. The bedroom and bathroom layout is poor (the cupboard doors bang into the bathroom door). There are no locks on the bathroom door. The room was small and the decor was poor. The breakfast area is a joke - let’s put all the coffee and drinks machines in one corner along with the cutlery to make the guests fall over each other. The quality of the breakfast was average at best. The reception staff ranged from amenable to surly. I feel the room cleaners and attendants are the real heroes and heroines here because they do their best with what they have and I applaud the job they did cleaning our room. However, this wasn’t the most expensive option and I feel you could get much better for your money. Three stars is generous.

Hotel is good value for money in a location that is convenient for restaurants. It is within a market setting. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Rooms are small but as expected for a 3*. Our room needed a bit of an upgrade (e.g. peeling Formica around the basin) and shower was in a small bath but it worked ok and didn’t flood the floor! Breakfast very good (e.g. scrambled eggs hot and fresh) and served in a nice dining room. There is a fabulous rooftop bar with amazing 360 degree views including of the Acropolis.

Great location within walking distance to the Acropolis and other sites. Friendly staff and good breakfast included. Beautiful views of the Acropolis from the rooftop terrace/bar. The only complaints would be that the rooms are older with central air and the windows aren't very soundproof. We could hear the outside noise from our room.

We stayed one night, had breakfast then left. The lifts are tiny people, and quite warm. My mother chose the stairs due to the size and speed. The views are great and the room was quite good. Breakfast was plentiful, loads of Greek treats. My friend took a piece of fruit for later being diabetic, and got scolded loudly in front of everyone in the breakfast room. The waitress kept going and going and speaking so loudly to him, perhaps she was having a bad day. The volume and attitude was not required, just say please don’t take the piece of fruit. Don’t take food people, or declare your medical reason first.
