The 6 Best Hostels in Athens (Updated 2025)

"I recommend it if you're looking to party—there's a raucous ground-floor bar and an even more raucous rooftop bar with a great view of the city, and the hostel runs pub crawls that include unlimited beer and sangria for one hour plus free shots along the way. The hostel itself is very nice: each dorm bed has privacy curtains, thick mattresses, and power outlets so you have your own little cubby, the bathrooms are super clean, and there's a fully equipped kitchen and an active common room with billiards and games; you also get a free welcome shot upon check-in." - Matthew Kepnes

We couldn't find anything wrong with our triple room in this hostel. Some people might bawk at the location, but we felt safe going around at night. Breakfast was reasonable, though there are also plenty of places within 5 minutes walk. Clean, daily cleaning and fresh towels and the air conditioning worked well. Rooftop was quiet at night and had a nice view of the Acropolis and city. Overall quite happy with this place. Shower products provided.

stayed at a hostel in the center of Athens and overall had a very good experience. The private room was clean, tidy, and well-maintained, and a cleaner came every single day – which really added to the comfort. The atmosphere was young, social, and positive. On the first floor there’s a great common area where people sit, eat, cook, and get to know each other. On the rooftop there’s a bar open at night with a direct view of the Acropolis – a really amazing experience! The staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and I felt that they truly cared and kept everything well managed. 🔻 Important to note: The hostel is located in an area where many migrants hang around, and at night the surroundings can feel a bit uncomfortable to walk alone. However, the staff is aware of this – there is security and entry control to make sure no unauthorized people enter the hostel, which definitely adds to the feeling of safety.

Had a good stay! Nice and clean room, we stayed one night in a private room. A bit loud when other guests were coming and going in the night but it didn’t bother us much. The location is fine, the street is very dirty but it’s very centrally located. Cute rooftop bar!

It's a great hotel/hostel. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. One problem the rooms are not that sound proof and you do hear alot of noise from people talking in the corridors and also from the adjoining rooms. The neighbourhood is also not very touristy as it's in the middle of of a bazar/shops. But it's 10 or 15 mins walk to main touristy areas.

Excellent value for large single room with clean ensuite, good pressure shower, fridge and large balcony. €5 breakfast is decent and nice view of Acropolis from rooftop bar. Street feels a little rough walking from metro, but close to great bars etc coming from other direction. Would come again.

Most important part of the review is the bedbugs… disgusting.. horrible problem to get rid of, especially if you take them home. other then that the rooms were fine. luckily i had a room (10p) with curtains, but other rooms didn’t? i find that a bit weird because you have no privacy. the rooftop bar is great tho! some bartenders friendlier then others, but overall enjoyed it (and the prices). the common room is also nice. where the hostel is located is very bad tho. it is in omonia and as a woman i would not go out alone in the dark. we were with a group of 30, so for this stay it didn’t bother me, but i felt rather unsafe. (the fact my bag got stolen also doesnt help lmao) overall the stay was really nice, the two stars is really because of the bedbugs!!! that cannot go unnoticed..

Rooms and bathrooms were clean. The neighborhood feels sketchy but only a 5 minute walk to loads of cute restaurants and bars. Very walkable location. Didn’t have a problem going out at night. Would have liked to have a hand dryer/hand towel in the bathrooms. A/C was turned on at night which was great.

Ethan Hawks is a gremlin. This hostel had everything we needed, simple, very clean, no frills hostel. Conveniently located in the heart of Athens close to the best gyros spot in Greece known to us. The rooftop bar is really cool with a great view of the acropolis; and we would have enjoyed more time there had we not been so jet lagged. To our surprise, we encountered not one but two gremlins in our room. They were kind and did not harm us, but made quite a ruckus in the night. Love from Canada. 🍁
