Honest Greek Fares, Excellent Service, Wonderful Atmosphere On a pleasant fall Sunday evening, we visited Athens for a meal. I was happy to see that it had remained a rock solid family-owned place since I last visited this restaurant a few years. It was not a big restaurant but there were four servers plus a bartender. The place was hopping with every table occupied. We had a reservation so we were shown to our table quickly. The menu is quite extensive and the waiter was knowledgeable. We were served our appetizers quickly. The tomatoes in the village salad were ripe and flavourful. The beets were outstanding. Amongst the three of us we ordered lamb shank, lamb chops and grilled sea bass for mains, and they were delicious. The sauce on the shank could be less tart and thick, but I gobbled it down regardless. We had a chat with the owner and he was very friendly and likeable. He made the patrons feel welcomed and looked after. He set the tone for the restaurant and its staff, and the tone was warmth and efficiency.

We visited Athens for a late weekend lunch, and since it wasn’t too busy, we were able to walk right in. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, friendly, and attentive. The atmosphere felt lively yet welcoming. We ordered four full-course meals, and every dish was delicious and satisfying. The menu offered a great variety; featuring not only classic options but also authentic, hearty dishes.

An old friend of mine who grew up in Toronto came back for a visit and insisted on having Greek food on the Danforth. The restaurant that she used to go to is no longer there, but this gem was an amazing experience. The staff are super friendly, the food is cooked to perfection with generous sizes and the ambiance is incredible with the music and the decor. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven't before.

A few months ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Athens during a business trip to Toronto, after a friend’s recommendation. The heartwarming welcome from George (the owner) and his staff was matched only by the amazing flavors they served—each dish transported me straight back to the motherland. I had the stifado and a horiatiki salad, and honestly, both were filled with love and nostalgia—as if my grandmother had cooked them herself! They even treated me to a few shots of zivania, a traditional spirit from my other homeland. George kindly offered to show me around in his car and even drove me back to the station—a true reflection of Greek spirit, kindness, and warmth. Highly, highly recommended! A little gem in the heart of Greektown, Toronto.

Google
huge portions, and great service! very busy spot to call ahead to make a reservation, the food was amazing - packing lots of flavour, very hearty. caution on the water: they serve bottled, so if you just want tap water you’ll have to ask for it.

Google
Athens Restaurant, owned by George, is a true gem for anyone who loves authentic Greek cuisine. The entire menu is outstanding, from the perfectly seasoned lamb and tender, char-grilled octopus to the juicy chicken on a bun. My personal favorite is the seabass always fresh, flaky, and cooked to perfection. Whether you’re stopping in for lunch or dinner, the quality is consistently top-notch, with traditional dishes that truly capture the flavors of Greece. If you’re looking for a place that never disappoints, Athens is it. Highly recommend!

Google
Great quality Greek restaurant! My favourite dish is Fried Calamari, so crispy, chewy and flavourful. The chicken skewer pieces are huge and tender. Also would recommend the Greek Fries!

Google
I knew this was 5 star before I even took a bite. Went in for takeout & was immediately welcomed & taken care of. The portion sizes are great, every aspect of this meal was delicious. A big wedge of feta on my salad?! 🤩 dreamy. Can’t wait to go back in for an eat in experience!

Yelp
My husband & I found a such good restaurant in Greek Town call "Athens Restaurant". They have some many dish, I never had them before! Each one of dish were introduced by Zeeno. All of them were so delicious! Normally I do not like to eat lamb, but I tried their lamb with baby size pasta. They were soooo tasty! This restaurant will be in my pocket list for sure.

Yelp
On a Wednesday evening, the place (it's tiny) was packed with a lineup at the door. We were glad we had reserved. EXCELLENT food and service - we had lamb (of course) and a series of shareables, from the separate menu. This included pickled octopus, dolmades, sweetbreads, olives (of course) spanakopita and much more. For 4 people the bill came to $200, including dessert, coffees and a whole bottle of ouzo. One star deducted because of the noise level - because it was packed, we could not converse at all - far too loud.

Yelp
We were rushed as we had an ObGyn appointment, but the chicken souvlaki was amazing. Amazing. Tender, seasoned, succulent...perfect. Wow did you guys do that chicken well! Best I had in years. Salad was tasty, just on the smallest plate in the world. And seated next to the to-go/prep station in the back was a little...weird. One of the servers reached across our table once to grab something at the next table. Friendly? Owner came by and was charming. Honestly like I said we were far too rushed to do it justice, but we want to go back. It will be hard not to order chicken again, but I have to try the rest. Cool ambiance, nice folks.

Yelp
Delicious food, attentive service. The spicy feta dip (tirokaftree) was delicious, the bread and pita were fresh and incredibly flavorful. I had the village lamb, a restaurant specialty. It was bursting with flavor, succulent lamb braised in a tasty broth with potatoes, peppers and onions. The lamb keftee dinner and pork souvlaki dinner came with a delightful Greek side salad. The meat was well seasoned and very good. The one downside was that the sides were rice and billed potato wedges, which were a bit bland. Fried calamari was also good and a large portion.

Yelp
Great authentic Greek food, great service, we are here 3 times on our trip. The veal was tender and full of flavor, the pita fresh, and the chicken and leaf was next level. I highly recommend trying it. We will return

Yelp
good food at times. Very greedy. My wife wanted to return an extremely oily salad . we replaced it with another salad . The bill comes both salads are on the bill. Had an argument with server and told him I'm not paying for both. Never go back

Yelp
Greek is one of my favourite cuisines, so when I'm on the Danforth, I need to eat! I was in the area around lunch time a few weeks ago and had bookmarked Athens on Yelp to try. I sat outside on the small patio in front (though they have some extra patio seating due to the street closures for Covid). My server was wearing a face shield, and the tables were spaced out well. I decided to try one of the specials, and ordered the lamb wrapped in phyllo and a village salad. There was SOOOOO much food. I ended up having a ton left over to take home (and yes, it tasted just as good the next day). Although a little on the greasy side, everything tasted homecooked and delicious. I cannot wait to come back again.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. Great service, attentive. Amazing Greek food that I can't stop thinking about. I got this cod in some sort of tomato sauce there, absolutely amazing.

Yelp
Great food, large portions, friendly service! If I lived closer I'd definitely be a regular. Drinks are strong too.

Yelp
Delicious food! The portions are huge, which would've been awesome if we weren't traveling and could've taken leftovers. Their traditional menu items were super, and the service was so kind. Definitely recommend as a relaxing spot for an abundance of good food

Yelp
This has become my favourite restaurant in Toronto over the past year. Seriously, there's no restaurant I'm happier at than when eating at Athens. I'm now friendly with most of the servers, who are all studs and awesome, as well as with the owner, who's awesome. But enough about that... let's talk about the food. Athens, to me, honestly seems like the last bastion of Danforth's now sadly bygone golden era- this is the last of the old guard, and I hope it sticks around forever, because it's tragic what's happened to the rest of the strip. We used to frequent Danforth every Sunday growing up, it was our Sunday lunch/dinner go-to, a special treat, but going on 15+ years now, it's been a sad shell of its former self. But thankfully, Athens is firing on all cylinders, with mind-blowing freshness and quality on display in all of its dishes. The dishes are perfect representations of Greece's ethnic foods, both the popular classics, as well as some deep-cut "IYKYK" village specialities you simply won't find anywhere else- and that is largely what makes this spot so special. While they do all the classics to the highest level, better than anyone else, and while those classics are what I often indulge in myself, I highly recommend anyone visiting try at least a couple of delicacies from their revolving specials menu, featuring the aforementioned village specialities- you will NOT be sorry. Something that always pops out at me when dining at Athens is the sheer quality and freshness of every single ingredient they use, from the produce to the oil to the cheeses to of course the proteins... The only downside I see of going here is that I always end up crazy over-ordering and spending much more than I intended, but then I catch myself chewing the food with a smile on my face, and reiterating to myself "it's worth it". The grilled calamari, saganaki, zucchini fries, the pork belly (my favourite!), the village salad, the moussaka, any of the souvlaki's, the village lamb, the rack of lamb, the pork chops, etc., etc., etc. I can keep on going. Simply put, no other Greek spot in town can compete- it is all perfectly seasoned (never overpowering the main ingredients), perfectly cooked, succulent, tantalizing, goodness. It can feel a bit cramped at times, but when the music is going, the drinks are flowing, the lights dimmed, it's a vibe like no other- I actually love it most when it's a full house. Can't wait to visit again soon!

Yelp
Restaurant is located at the edge of Greektown on Danforth. Restaurant appears to be quite popular with Greeks and locals. There were many large groups and everyone seemed to know each other....staff and customers. Our reservations was on Saturday at 7:30. By 8:00, the place was full. Atmosphere was quaintly small and dimly lit. Unique feature was that when asked whether this was our first visit, they asked us whether we wanted to visit the kitchen. We agreed as we were curious after reading other reviews saying the same thing. With trepidation, we went into the kitchen where the cook showed us a counter full of prepare food. He then described each dish. These were all the dishes of the day, in addition to what is offered on the menu. Service was good and the food came promptly.

Yelp
Given the fact that I just came back from Greece a month ago, I ALMOST felt like I was whisked right back. It's those damn Greek chairs! lol When you walk in, you are welcomed with dim lighting and Greek music. Also, the menu is exactly how it would be in Greece. I was beyond hungry coming here, hungry to the point where you feel sick. So that kinda threw me off and I couldn't truly enjoy my experience. Still, I forced myself to eat. As you may have read in the reviews (and it says right on their menu), they take you to the kitchen to show you the specials of the day. One of the specials was Fasolakia, which are green beans cooked in tomato sauce, so I had to get a side order of it. I love it! I also ended up just getting a single pork skewer and my boyfriend got the chicken souvlaki dinner. They serve complimentary bread which was really good according to my boyfriend. The thing that surprised me the most was that they actually give you a personal horiatiki as your salad that's included in your meal. No other Greek restaurants, that I have been to in the GTA, do this. It was a good serving. Enough for two people. Taste and presentation were on point. Although, tomatoes here can't compare to how they are in Greece. All the food came out fairly quick. We were in and out in under an hour. The pork and chicken souvlaki were delicious and very juicy. Tzatziki was on point as well. Potatoes included in the dinner were soft and flavourful. The only complaint from the both of us was the rice. Nothing special at all, in fact pretty bland. Despite feeling so sick on my visit here, I still think the place deserves 4 stars. I would return here if I was really feigning for Greek food. Tastes are as authentic as their Greek chairs. It doesn't get realer than that.

Yelp
Authentic Greek food. came into town for a retirement dinner and ate at this little gem. Food was outstanding. The service was wonderful. Didn't get our waiters name but kiddos to him for a wonderful experience. Want real authentic Greek food go to Athens it won't disappoint you.

Yelp
You get to go to tHe kitchen and check out their daily specials. Different each day!! Gott the lamb exohiko (lamb wrapped in pastry with vegetables and cheesee). Not too heavy.

Yelp
Excellent food and even better service. Highly recommend. The souvlaki is the best on the Danforth.

Yelp
Food: (5 stars) They got a few specials every day which has limited quantity. To see the specials you actually walk into the kitchen to talk directly to the chef. Every time I got the special I was extremely satisfied. The cost of the specials is around $20. The items from the menu are all really good: Calamari (both grilled and fried), octopus, dips, greek salad (With huge pieces of feta cheese), Saganaki cheese (grilled cheese with a shot and lemon poured over it). The only thing I was not a huge fan of was fried Zucchini. The classic dinners are very large: salad, potato, rice and meet. Ordering appetizers and a full dinner will be too much. I would suggest getting an appetizer, 2 skewers and a full dinner for 2 people to share. Service: (5 stars) Very friendly, and attentive. Atmosphere: (4 stars) A smaller/cozy restaurant. Can fit about 30 people total. They got a small patio, but its on the busy street and can fit about 6 people.

Yelp
Love this place but seems the prices have doubled and portions have become smaller over the past few years. For this reason I stopped going simply too expensive!

M Y.

Yelp
I have been there only twice. It seems very geared towards only Greek locals from the Danforth The staff is helpful but at the same time very cold and distant. I'm not Greek so I felt the coldness and distance from staff in the room. I'm an outsider... I won't be back ....NO thanks!

Yelp
So, I was part of a large group that went here for lunch. What an odd little experience it was. It started off well enough, with four or five of us at a time being escorted to the kitchen, where the chef showed us the daily specials. The decor is very nice, like an authentic Greek village restaurant. Then it started going downhill. Now, if we were a large group that just came in off a tour bus, I could understand the slow service, with only one server actually taking orders and two delivering food. But this was a pre-booked group, so the restaurant had lots of notice. From the kitchen tour, it looked like we could order anything, and get it relatively quickly. But no. An hour plus before the actual main course dishes rolled out. And this was after the server came out to inform some people that one of the menu items was no longer available, which you think they would have known before service started. My meal was only average, and my side dish came after I'd finished eating. And, worst of all, no one at the restaurant seemed to think any of this was a problem.

Yelp
Really good Greek food, with good portions and amazing salad! FOOD // I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Dinner to go! The portions were good and came with lots of chicken and rice. The chicken and potatoes were really good, but I found the rice a bit bland. I wish there was more seasoning or flavour to the rice alone. The salad was amazing and quite authentic, with a huge chunk of feta on top. The tzatziki was also pretty good and came in a huge quantity, but again not as garlic-y or flavourful as I hoped. I admit, it is really good Greek food, not the best I've had in Ontario, but the best I've had in Toronto. PRICE // Given the portion size, I thought the dinner was reasonably priced. It's pricier than the typical Greek fast food, but the food itself is higher quality and tastes much more authentic! Overall, I would love to return to dine in and satisfy my Greek food craving. I am still yet looking for the best Greek food in Toronto, but this holds the title for now! Note: I've only had Athens take-out and haven't had a chance to dine-in yet, so I can't comment on the ambience and service.

Barb K.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place. They have excellent food, service & drinks. I have tried a few different greek resturants in the city & this was the best experience i have had yet.

Yelp
We had a great mean from here. We ordered the Lamb, salad and moussaka. Everything was delicious. Even the staple rice, potatoes and bread that came with the meal. We were stuffed afterwards. Great value too

Yelp
Best Greek food I've ever had. We ordered Saganaki as an app, grilled calamari and lamb kefta. Portions were big. Food was delicious. This is Greek food like I never had. And the food was not oily (other than the Saganaki for obvious reasons). And the balsamic they had to dip the bread was . Will definitely be back.

Yelp
A hidden gem. When we were disappointed we couldn't get into another restaurant, we were looking for another place to eat by the Danforth. We went on the day with a snow storm, so we almost missed it. When we came, we were the only ones there but welcomed nicely. Upon sitting, they allowed us to go into the kitchen to see what's cooking for their daily specials (which we thought was cool cause, no other restaurant had ever offered that). As for for the food - the dips were probably one of my favourites. I'm not usually a huge fan of hummus but this really impressed me and, with their cheese dip. We also ordered the zucchini fries, and I'm also usually not a huge fan of them - but at this place I couldn't even tell they were zucchini's. As for the mains, I got the chicken dinner. The portion was big, and enough for me to bring home for dinner! The only complaint I had, was that the potatoes were a bit too salty for my liking. Overall, the food was pretty impressive and we would defs come back!

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday night and it was fairly busy. Pros: - Nice ambiance - Good service - They take you in the kitchen to show you the current specials. - Good portions - Food tastes good Cons: - Pricey for the quantity offered

Yelp
Very good food served at this unassuming Greek restaurant where the Chefs invite you into their kitchen and show their day's specials.

Yelp
Greek food at it's finest. This is truly a remarkable family style restaurant. Walking around we decide to grab some food and we did not expect to eat so much haha. Sat down by the windows and the server promoted us after a while to go see the specials of the day in the kitchen. We were surprised by this, but you literally walk back in to the kitchen and the chef shows you the home made meals of the day. We chose to start off with a delicious feta cheese salad and then got some spinach style bake made with filo dough, it was delicious. And then got the lamb stew with artichokes and lemon and carrots. Was so filling in my belly and soul. Loved the place and all it offered. Parking is street parking and eat everything!

Yelp
Rarely travel to this part of The danforth for Greek food and regrettably, because everyone knows your go to spot for Greek is this area. I never seem to be in that craving mood for Greek so that probably has a lot to do with it. This little gem, however, was opened at 11pm on a Monday night when that sudden urge for Greek food finally hit me. The restaurants look, is so beautiful, from the art on the walls to the physical design of the restaurant, it really gives you an authentic feeling of what it would be like if you were in Greece. The food, nothing short of fantastic. Although slightly intoxicated when going to this restaurant, I did order a chicken souvlaki to go for my girlfriend and she most definitely swears by it. The server was very friendly and brought me and my friend a large portion of bread, which they refill for free might I add, paired along with really high quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was amazing. Portions for food are also extremely reasonable given that for 2 people spending less than 35$ were sufficiently full. One more reason this restaurant deserves a 5 star rating is their tzatziki. Unlike other restaurants that only give a tiny portion of this magical sauce, this place doesn't skimp out at all! Plus it's homemade! Can it get any better! This place is fant

Yelp
Terrible service, we are not Greeks nor local customers and they immediately seated us at the furthest table. They claimed other tables closer were all "reserved". They proceeded to ignore us for 10 mins before we just left, no water, no menus, nothing. Absolutely terrible.

Ruth C.

Yelp
This was the most unpleasant dining experience. The service was slow and it was like they were doing you a favour to serve you. The food was awful and when I left a whole plate of food and sent it back the owner came over to say it was their most popular dish and there was nothing he would do about it. Not looking for free food. Just looking for good food, not saturated in oil, and properly prepared and at minimum decent service. The owner was rude and unappreciative of diners. Pathetic. There are so many wonderful Greek restaurants on the Danforth and this IS NOT one of them. Avoid this establishment unless you desire sub standard food, terrible service and a disrespectful, rude arrogant owner.

Aki P.

Yelp
I'm happy I tried out this place, it's nearby. I tried the chicken dinner for $25. I ate all the bread (and it seems the bread keeps coming in). The salad was filling, with a thick slice of feta cheese on top. The potatoes were flavourful, and even the rice was tasty. The chicken was absolutely great, totally melted my heart. I'll definitely be back soon. I think the bathrooms were down some steep stairs, but I didn't bother.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING. I didn't get a chance to read the reviews before I went so I wasn't sure what to do when I got there. So for anyone going please read this... Arriving at the restaurant for dinner around 5:00 pm, we waited at the front to be seated for a while...The place is small and a number of the tables were actually seated already by families. We were debating to leave after a while when no one came but finally the waiter came by and told us we could sit anywhere we wanted. Again, we waited a while to get menus and water to the point where we were about to leave cause it took so long..then the waiter came by and dropped off menus and said for the specials go into the kitchen and ask the chef. We looked through the menus quickly and then decided we should just go ask for the specials and you literally WALK INTO the kitchen and the chef shows you what he cooked for the day! There were about 4-5 options we could've chosen and for dinner meals they all come with rice and potatoes. We ended up ordering the lamb (omg get the lamb) and the veal (SOO tender! :O) and the greek salad. Bread was served at the beginning with vinegar and olive oil. Oh my gosh everything was soooo goood!!! You can even order all the entrees and get rice on the side. This restaurant is really a gem! You must try it!! TL;DR: Literally walk into the kitchen and order whatever the specials the chef made for the day!! You will not be disappointed! :D

Yelp
I last went to Greece exactly 5 years ago and I really wanted to re-live my Greek experience by trying out a Greek place that I have never tried out before. I was recommended to try out this restaurant by my friends and I decided to go along with it. The first thing I recall is that the decor reminded me so much of the typical Greek restaurant decor and I was already smitten. After being shown to my seat, I was lead to the kitchen to see the specials. I decided to order a Gyro plate (regular menu item) as well as the spinach pie (called spanakopita, and was a special for that day). I was foolish because I ordered too much for myself, but the food has been extremely delicious and transported my palette back to Greece. I paid a total of $29 (including a 20% tip) and I realized that the food portions were definitely generous for that price. I would visit again and I would really want to bring my friends. Never have I been invited to check out a restaurant's kitchen and check out the specials, and that is probably the most outstanding experience about the restaurant that I will remember for a long time.

Yelp
Went with my family On Sunday November 21, 2021 & we were made to feel very uncomfortable & unwelcomed from the start, because of the color of our skin. We waited almost 30 minutes before the waiter came to finally take our order despite the fact they weren't that busy. The Manager was very rude to my sister who had a coffee with her in a paper cup & he was telling her the restaurant policy is no paper cups on the table. I'm saying I don't want to jump the gun & call them racists but we were definitely made to feel very uncomfortable & unwelcomed. Wouldn't recommend going here if you're a different race than Caucasian/Greek place is way overpriced for the portions & quality of food you receive.

Yelp
I'm Turkish. This place made the best eggplant, best beans, and best lamb I've ever had anywhere in the world. Will be coming again.

Yelp
Fantastic place. Quiet and small. Best Greek food in town. Prices were reasonable and service was amazing. This is not your typical Greek restaurant. This is a small mom and pap'a kinda place with unique food Highly recommend

Yelp
A great start wen the server drops a bottle of balsamic and a carafe of olive oil with some extremely fresh bread at your table. I wanted a light lunch since I had a big dinner party later, so I fought back the urge to devour the bread. Before ordering, the host invited me to step into the kitchen to see the specials. They all looked amazing, but I knew they would be massive portions. I ordered chicken souvlaki, thinking it would be a manageable lunch, but I say "nay nay"! The first thing out was the Greek salad. A whole plate of Greek salad. With a 1/3 pound of feta cheese on top. I planned to end at halfway through. Then came the main, a healthy portion of perfectly tender and juicy chicken, with a massive amount of lemon roasted potatoes and rice pilaf, accompanied by a perfectly fresh, homemade tsatziki. Normally, I focus in the protein and pass on most of the carbs. This time I started with the potatoes. I never do that!! A sliver of chicken that I knocked off the plate, and I almost dove to retrieve it off of the carpet. I gave up halfway through. I never do that either! The gracious host packed me a doggie bag bigger than most meals.

Yelp
Unbelievable. Incredible. Awesome! Amazing! OMG!!! Best greek that I've EVER HAD. And I've eaten at most Greek restaurants on the Danforth!! And they really DO let you go to the kitchen to see the specials... I felt just like the prime minister!!! I had the Horiatiki salad. Never had it before. Incredible! You must try it! They have awesome bread, with olive oil AND GREEK balsamic vinegar... No idea that the Greeks MADE balsamic!! Well, I sure do now!! Village lamb was truly a STANDOUT! Comes with the yummy roast potatoes..... Red peppers. Yummy cheese on top. And a smokin hot waiter, who, frankly, looks like a freaking model! Oopa!!!! Lovely owner too! Where the heck is "you gotta eat here"??? Yum Tum Yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum. Yum yum..... Need I say more folks? Best Greek EVER

Yelp
Pretty good small joint! Never really noticed this place but was looking for greek food late at night and saw this on yelp. Dont judge the place from outside, it's very cozy and nice inside. The food was great - grilled kalamari, pork tenderloin, greek salad- all standard greek fare but worth it to me. Big servings. Pork tenderloin nice and juicy, kalamari tender and tasty. Wpuld def come back for late night eats! Best part is the staff- very friendly, and the boss (I'm assuming, big man) is very friendly and outgoing! Environment makes this place. Also cool is that they have daily specials and they invite u to the kitchen to have a look ! Such cool idea.

Yelp
Seriously can I not give more than 5 stars !?! Amazing place, the food was incredible. It was really cool how we were allowed to go to the kitchen where the chef told us about his daily specials. Ordered chicken souvlaki (nice touch how the skewer was already removed) the chicken was very juicy and tender. It was cooked to perfection. The portion size is quite big. The potatoes melted in the mouth like butter, I'm still shocked the potatoes were able to keep a nice shape considering how soft they were. The Greek salad came on a side plate with a block of feta on top and had just the right amount of dressing. Tzatziki ... wow! Overall this place was so great, it had that authentic touch to it and it was obvious the chef took great pride in his work. Seems like a family run business which just makes it that much better. Will be stopping there prior to leaving the east coast one more time, it was just that good!

Yelp
I'm giving this restaurant a 4 star review only because it was out of the grilled calamari and the lamb special, both of which I really had my heart set on. It's a small place, not much to look at from the outside but the service here is excellent. I called ahead to make reservations for 4 as I wasn't sure how busy they would be for dinner. When I walked in I was greeted very jovially and seated immediately. Our server came over with menus and talked about the specials. We got to go in kitchen to see what the specials looked like and sadly the last serving on lamb had just been selected. We ended up ordering the fried calamari, the lamb shanks and the Greek feta plate (strongly recommended to all my cheese lovers!). The other dishes were okay but again not what I had originally intending on trying. The portions are a decent size and the prices are on par with offerings in the Danforth area. They don't do dessert here so if you're looking for a treat after a good meal head over to Athens Pastries just down the street. I would return again but maybe for lunch so I don't miss out on the good dishes.

Yelp
I'd give this place 3.5 stars if I could, and this rating shows my confusion with it. Athens Restaurant is good, but it's almost like it should be better. Let me explain: You enter the restaurant and it's like you're transported to Greece. From the cheerfully loud and vibrant Greeks that run the place to the chairs and tables that looks exactly like the ones in the actual Athens, the mood and decor transport you to another world. On top of this, there's the "experience" of heading to the back kitchen to see what's available for the day - fun, unique, but above all, makes you feel like you're being welcomed into a Greek home. This place oozes with charm and, dare I say, even a touch of magic. And so when the food comes, your expectations are so high. And let me say this first: The food is good. The saganaki was fried well, the octopus had great texture/taste, the moussaka was full and hearty, etc. It's just that I was expecting something more. Or maybe more precisely, something different. For while Athens Restaurant is better than many of the Greek restaurants I've tried in Toronto, it's not a lot better, let alone truly different/outstanding. So 3.5 stars is a reflection of my confusion with this charming place/experience that raised my expectations, and the food that was good but not magical.

Yelp
The danforth obviously has lots amazing Greek restaurants and this is one. The value is there for sure. The come into the kitchen to see the specials is different. Had the roasted lamb special small village salad and a stuffed pepper. It was all shared and capped off with coffee dessert and a brandy. Service was good easy going vibe. I would have liked a bit more veggies with the main but overall it was a solid choice with an open late kitchen.

Yelp
Wow.... good food here. This place doesn't look like much, I have to say. And it was a bit hot inside, I can imagine as the summer warms up, so will this place. The food did take a little while to come, and I didn't quite understand what our options were. When we were seated, the waitstaff asked us if we wanted a menu or if we wanted the daily specials we should speak to the chef. We didn't know what we wanted so we opted for the menu. Those more familiar with the place seemed to understand and ordered specials which came out much faster then our cooked to order requests. Lesson learned. I had the chicken souvlaki dinner which was HUGE. It came with an amazing greek salad to start and then I substituted cooked veggies for the potatoes. For $14 it was an amazing amount of food that you could easily have shared between two people. Loved it. Loved my leftovers. Would definitely return.

Yelp
Darling daughter, handsome husband and little ol' me had just finished a side-splitting session of Laughter Yoga nearby and were in a happy but hungry mood. I turned on Yelp to see what good eats were in driving vicinity. Athens Restaurant came up on the radar. I've been to Athens (Greece!) twice and have some knowledge of Greek food. DD just visited this past summer and enjoyed her meals there. I must say that we were very pleased with the food quality and preparation! Loved the taramasalata, warm pita, Greek feta and grilled calamari. Also loved going to the kitchen to meet the chef and see his daily specials. We chose the stewed okra and stuffed peppers. At the adjacent table, a Greek family was chowing down on a pile of mouthwatering lamb chops. Next time, we'll get those plus some paidakia.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. It's one of the smaller Greek restaurants on Danforth and has a more authentic feel to it compared to its neighbours. You can either order off the menu or walk into the kitchen where the chef will walk you through the prepped specials for the day. These consists of very non-typical menu items that you don't usually see at most Greek restaurants. The service is great, the portions are huge and the prices are reasonable.
