The 6 Best Hostels in Athens (Updated 2025)

"If you want a bit more privacy—for example, you're a traveling couple—this property just around the corner from the Acropolis Museum offers private two-person rooms and even apartments for families or larger groups. The place is loaded with amenities: a rooftop bar, a ground-floor sports bar that's always hopping, and a lauded restaurant serving Greek comfort food; breakfast is complimentary and the staff are welcoming, warm, and helpful, creating a comfortable, safe atmosphere." - Matthew Kepnes

We were traveling with our adult daughter and Son-in-law and needed two rooms for one night. We booked two budget twin rooms. It was important to us that the hotel offer luggage storage in the morning after checkout time. We could not have been happier with the location of the hotel as it was easy walking distance to the Acropolis, museum and lively Plaka area. We had a wonderful and fun dinner at Scholarchio. The rooms were small but clean and fine. The 24 hr reception staff was helpful. The included breakfast was good. We were happy!

Stayed here with 4 friends as one was rubbing the marathon in November. The staff here are super friendly and location is perfect. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are visiting as a group. Breakfast is basic but enough to get you going.

Positive: The location near the Acropolis is great. One of the service staff at the buffet was very friendly and even smiled. Negative: There's absolutely no storage space in the room, not even a single hook in the bathroom. Just a small sink. Impossible for three women with cosmetics or for families, etc. The so-called breakfast buffet is the worst I've ever seen. It's set up outside the hotel on the street. Minimal selection. The coffee tastes disgusting. I recommend going to the local bakery and getting fresh coffee and breakfast there. Breakfast is absolutely no reason to choose this hotel. The reception is staffed, but completely indifferent. No hello. No thank you. No please. No "I'm glad you were here." The women just stare at their phones and ignore the guests. Unfortunately, the rest of the staff seemed very annoyed. Since I'm often in Athens, I can only recommend finding another option; there are numerous good hotels in the city. This one definitely isn't one of them. + Fair enough...thanks for getting back. I really appreciate that.

The best thing about Athens Studios is definitely the location – right next to the Acropolis Museum, which is perfect for visiting the main attractions and exploring the area on foot. Another positive point is that they allow you to leave your bags after checkout, which is convenient if you want to keep exploring the city before your departure. However, there were several downsides. The room was very small and honestly didn’t look as nice as the photos online – the pictures make it seem much better than it actually is, which felt a bit misleading. When we arrived, there was a power outage in some areas of Athens due to the heat. Although this wasn’t the hotel’s fault, they don’t have a generator, so the entire building was completely dark and extremely hot, with no air conditioning. It made the stay quite uncomfortable. Another negative point was the checkout process. Even though checkout was at 11:00 am, staff started knocking on our door at 10:30 am to clean the room, which felt rushed. We also didn’t get to try the breakfast because it’s only served from 8:00 to 10:00 am, which is quite inflexible. And with the power outage, there wasn’t much to enjoy anyway. Finally, there was no gesture or compensation offered for the situation, even though we understand the blackout wasn’t their fault. Overall, great location, but the experience and the room were disappointing compared to what we expected from the photos.

To call this a 4-star hotel is misleading. This is more of a hostel with an upgrade, perhaps a 3-star hotel if we are really pushing it. The rooms are very small, pretty bare bones, but there is a mini fridge, decent AC, and a small smart TV. The elevator is also microscopic so you might as well walk. Breakfast was decent, but you eat outside on a covered patio (rain or shine), so consider time of year (October is comfortable). Location is central, but Athens is generally a very busy city and this area in particular can feel overwhelming.

We had a double room for one night and it served that purpose. The staff were friendly and the best service ever for checking in - we arrived 9:30 am and were able to go straight to the room and sleep off our very tired overnight flight. Many thanks for this! ||The room was basic, the bed comfy enough, the shower facilities good enough. The lift was very small but again, for one night, we coped. ||The restaurant right next door to the entrance made a great dinner for us - chicken n chips, large salad! Very tasty and plenty of it.

Extremely overpriced for what you get. The rooms are spacious, but that’s the only positive. The bed is uncomfortable, the shower has no pressure (possibly clogged) and takes ages to warm up. The worst part is the breakfast: very poor quality, and the coffee machine is downright disgusting. The only real advantage is the location.

Athens Studios is an incredible find! I can't recommend it enough! It is walking distance to Acropolis, shopping and dining. The rooms are spacious and incredibly clean. Everything appears to have been recently updated and made our stay very comfortable. We arrived early and they were able to hold our bags until our room was available. We stayed three nights and then returned for another night after visiting Santorini and Naxos prior to our flight home. We used the laundry facilities which were an added bonus. The breakfast was delicious and fresh. We felt very safe and slept well. It was a great "home base" for us while exploring Athens!
