We ate dinner here while driving from The Isle of Skye via Inverness to Dunkeld. We were looking for traditional decor and food, “we” being my husband and I and our three 20-something children.
We arrived half an hour before closing. There were just a few people left, but our server (from Sri Lanka) and barman (Grant) were wonderful. Friendly and attentive. Kept our drinks full and were right there with anything we could need.
The food was excellent. We ordered the steak and ale pie, Madras curry, two orders of the mince and tatties, Cullen Skink, and the Vrates (?) dish. Plus two sticky toffees for afters.
All of it was served piping hot (except the pudding, which was appropriately warm). Even the bread served with the soup was perfect.
As they were serving us, our server and barman answered some of our questions about the area, the food, the drinks and were just ideal for what we wanted as first-time tourists to the area.
All in all, it was lovely.
