Breathless in La Paz, the World's Highest Capital City

"In Zona Sur (the south side), a residential and commercial district that is lower and a few degrees warmer than the historic center, the city’s first smart boutique hotel, Atix, opened in 2016."

Atix Hotel (La Paz, Bolivia) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"There was bound to be a boutique hotel in La Paz, Bolivia sooner or later. What’s perhaps surprising is that Atix Hotel is not a tentative first step, but a huge, confident statement — a design-conscious, art-filled luxury hotel that wouldn’t be out of place in Buenos Aires or Mexico City. The name means “one who thrives” in the local Quecha language, and it’s an apt name for a hotel that stands high above a low-rise district in this scenic, mountain-fringed city." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed 2 nights at Hotel Atix in La Paz. The hotel is located outside the city center, in a very quiet and safe neighborhood, which is a definite plus. However, the rooms and the pool area feel outdated and would greatly benefit from renovation to meet modern standards. The true highlight of our stay was the restaurant. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choices, and we enjoyed dining there twice in the evenings. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by a serious issue regarding food allergies. Despite informing the hotel of our allergies days in advance, they were not properly respected during our second dinner. This led to an allergic reaction for one member of our group. Thankfully, we had medication and an epipen on hand, allowing us to control the situation quickly. The restaurant staff apologized, explaining they had not been informed and admitted they should have double-checked, which they failed to do. The allergen was also not listed on the menu, so we had no way of knowing before ordering. They replaced the dishes immediately but did not offer any significant compensation aside from not charging for the returned plates. Upon checkout, after some negotiation, we were only credited for those dishes. This experience highlights the importance of strict allergy management, especially in hospitality, and is something future guests with allergies should be aware of.

The Atix is a modern, hip boutique hotel in Calacoto, an upscale neighborhood located in the southern part of La Paz. It is, overall, a great choice if you’re looking for stylish and comfortable accommodations in a nicer part of the city at a great price. Our experience was mostly great, until we nearly missed our flight to Uyuni due to a concierge failure to reserve our airport transportation. ||The rooms were comfortable and quite spacious with large windows and decent window coverings. One of the windows had a roll up shade that kept getting twisted. There were no blackout shades but they were sufficient to keep out most of the city lights at night. The bathrooms and showers were clean, modern, and fairly basic and adequate. The room had some of the other usual amenities such as a safe and closet but no minibar or Nespresso or tea machines. ||While there was no restaurant at the hotel, there was a very comfortable and spacious breakfast area. The breakfast included some local breads, cheeses, and meats, fruit, granola, yogurt, and eggs, bacon, and potatoes. An assortment of fresh juices, tea, coffee, and coca leaves were available. ||Overall, the concierge service was decent. We got some good recommendations for activities and restaurants; however, their failure to reserve transportation to the airport at 6am, which we requested the day before, was a major disappointment. There aren’t many options for higher-end hotels in La Paz, and the Atix is likely one of the better ones, but I would recommend confirming your requests multiple times and with multiple staff to avoid this kind of scenario.

Great stay. Room was clean and spacious with a comfy bed and powerful shower. A/C worked perfectly. Staff were friendly and helpful, even packing me a breakfast to take away when I had to check out early. Breakfast itself was excellent - the best I've had in South America. Beautiful and quiet bar with a small pool and hot tub, overlooking La Paz scenery. Gym was small but useful. 10/10 would stay again.

My friends and I were here for 3 nights as our first stop in Bolivia and overall we really enjoyed the hotel. I had communicated with staff there extensively prior to our arrival to arrange dinners at restaurants in the area. They did a great job - very responsive and helped us with reservations at a few great restaurants. My friend and I shared a room with two queen beds with a great view. Staff all very friendly at this hotel. We used the roof level hot tub a few times. Great city views. Our room was comfortable. Shower pressure and temperature particularly great. Restaurant good - nice breakfast buffet with hot options such as made to order eggs / omelettes. Then they prepared to go breakfasts for early morning departures. Overall, I liked this hotel quite a bit and would recommend it for a stop over in La Paz.

What an amazing hotel. The staff here were exceptional. We stayed 2 nights here and had a very comfortable stay. The rooms were clean, comfortable and had everything you need. The restaurant was lovely with a decent selection at breakfast and the staff happy to make you eggs and coffee. We were especially impressed by how accommodating the staff were. We were able to book an airport transfer a very reasonable cost as well as rides into the city for about $5. On our checkout day we had a night bus. We were not only given late checkout till 8PM for not very much money but they also offered us a ride to the bus terminal. The service made this hotel stand out for us. I would highly recommend staying here if you’re in La Paz

Excellent service by all employees at the Atix hotel. A special shout - out to Mr Edwin Quispe at the Reception desk for answering all our questions, giving us superb recommendations for restaurants, helping us with a taxi when we couldn’t get Uber, among many other things. He is very pleasant, knowledgeable, and very willing to help. |A very nice hotel, very comfortable bed and excellent service!

The most beautiful hotel with the best service I've ever had. The Atix is a beautiful hotel in a suburban neighborhood within La Paz. Is immaculately clean I never saw a speck of dirt any where. Their customer support cannot be beat. They will go to extraordinary lengths to help you. Everyone spoke English. Everyone was extra polite very helpful and always very friendly. I loved this hotel! A+++

Really enjoyed our stay. Classy spot with visually pleasing art. Staff was helpful. Rooms comfy. Breakfast was wonderful with lots of vegan options. The gym was extremely busy at times making it hard to access. Would recommend Atix Hotel and happily stay again.
