I really didn't want to write this review for very selfish reasons...only because I always want this place to be available for when I go to Key West. In the past, I've stayed at the Coconut Mallory Resort, and the Marriot Beachside in Key West---both great places in their own right, but not very convenient in terms of location.
Atlantis House is the place I will always stay from now on. Atlantis House is a short walk to Smather's and Higgs Beach, but it's only a 5-15 minute leisurely cruiser bike ride to absolutely everywhere else you want to be in Key West. I parked my rental car in the driveway and used one of 6 complimentary beachcruiser style bicycles (with baskets, bike locks, helmets, and headlights) during my entire stay---day and night. Anyone who's been to Key West knows the best way to get around is by bicycle---that Atlantis House offers them to their guests for free is a HUGE convenience! It only took 15 minutes tops to casually ride to the farthest point on the island. While Atlantis House is not in the middle of downtown, it only takes 7 minutes to get into the heart of it by bike, and I got to enjoy peace and quiet when I started and finished my day. Additionally, I was able to see and explore so much more of Key West by bike, plus burn off the calories of all the food and drink I enjoyed there, I will never do Key West by cab or car ever again.
Atlantis House has only two rooms available, and they are adult-only. I stayed in the "smaller" Garden Suite. It was not "small" by Key West room standards, and it was much more beautifully appointed, comfortable, luxurious, and private by Key West standards. The grounds are a meticulous paradise. It is the most beautiful garden in Key West. Words and pictures just don't do it justice---the beauty and tiny details are jaw-dropping. You could stay in your room and the grounds for your entire stay and be entirely relaxed and satisfied. You will be sad to leave.
The bed was comfortable, the linens were more luxurious than those in a suite at the Marriot, and there's a Jacuzzi-style tub big enough for two, and a stand-up shower big enough for two with a big skylight in the bathroom. Aside from the bedroom (which has a larger mini fridge, coffee station, and microwave), there's a sitting room with a large flat screen TV and French doors that open into the garden. Kayla was away on business during my stay, but Steve was welcoming, attentive, but not intrusive at all. A+ all around!
