Au Charme Rabelaisien Amboise

We loved our room, the breakfast and most of all, the love and care we received from Christophe and Sylvia. Location is perfect and the advice we received from our hosts was just perfect. |We highly recommend!|Private parking and great breakfast. Cannot say enough about this hotel.

Hoteliers in Amboise are challenged by operating inside very old buildings. Our room (Room 8, Executive) was spacious but in an elongated rectangular shape, which caused placement of a love seat away from the bed and the safe/refrigerator/coffee maker inside the bathroom. The bathroom was very spacious with separate bathtub and shower. We encountered a tub leak the first night that was fixed the next day. There is a tiny elevator in the building. Once on our room's floor, there was a set of stairs inside the room's entry door that goes up into the room. These stairs are a bit of a safety hazard at the top (for children and seniors using the toilet at night). There was a gate in the room that could be installed, but part of it had come apart, so we just used a chair to block the stairs. Windows in the room had great views! The street in front of the hotel is very narrow, though it does get traffic at certain times of the day. The hotel is located away from the commercial center in a quieter place, but only a short walk to shops, restaurants, bakeries, a grocery store, laundromat, and local attractions. The staff were helpful. A young woman checked us in and guided us to our room. A couple gents working the off-hours had limited English skills but helped us as much as they could. We checked out during breakfast hours. Another woman we had not met before, who we believe might be the owner, broke away from her breakfast duties to help us, including waking the sleeping driver out front and confirming he was indeed our ride. This hotel is as the name says, charming, plus its well-located and has a helpful staff, but contends with the challenges of an old building. We're guessing the other hotels in Amboise face the same challenges, of course one person's "challenge" may be another's charm. Amboise is definitely worth a visit, and this hotel very much deserves your consideration.

Pros: The front staff. Very friendly and helpful.|Cons;|1. Our toilet broke 2 out of 3 nights. very inconvenient to say the least. Awful in fact.|2. Nickle and dime you everywhere...12$ to park, 5$ for an additional nespresso(they only give you 2), and the biggest disappointment is they charge you 15$/bottle if you want to drink your own wine in their yard. Terribly cheap and foolish practice.|3. The picture is very deceiving. Quite a small hotel with no original charm.||The restaurant across the street is great but small.

We stayed here in May 2025 for four nights. We reserved a “City Side Comfort” room in this 4-star hotel. It was an impeccable hotel. Our room was very clean, comfortable, and spacious. Our room had a mini refrigerator, Nespresso machine, and a water kettle. The garden was beautiful. Our daily breakfast was excellent. The location was perfect for walking to sights in the city center. The parking garage is convenient and easy to access. The hotel staff members were professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. When one of us had an unfortunate dental emergency, the staff connected us with a local dentist who was able to help us immediately. We highly recommend this hotel.

Where to begin? |We loved our stay for it’s charming sunlit residence and for the generosity of their service . Our hosts provided us with an exceptional breakfast each morning and an evening dinner cocktail in their garden , as well as guidance for restaurants . I felt lucky to be staying right here. The rooms are gorgeous and beautifully updated. We had the windows open and it was quiet. We enjoyed wine (that we purchased from the owner) in the courtyard each evening. The lift was a nice bonus. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel but went out for pastries each day. Enjoyed the coffee in the room, as well as the refrigerator. Great on-site parking for our large vehicle. The pool looked nice but it was closed for the season.

We truly loved our stay at Au Charme Rabelaisien in Amboise. The team were so friendly and helpful and we loved chatting with them. Breakfast was delicious and the room we had was gorgeous, comfortable and had a view of the Chateau from the window! It was the perfect location for us to cruise around to some other nearby destinations and an easy walk to some great spots for food and drink at the end of the day. The train station was super close when we left for Paris afterwards. Thank you again to the whole team there, they really made our stay a special one. ✨

There is not one negative thing we can say about this hotel. The rooms were spacious, quaint, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The owners and staff were super nice and helpful. The views of the castle from our window were spectacular. The location was perfect-convenient to town, shops, and restaurants. We were so pleased to have spent our 6 nights in Amboise at Au Charme de Rabelaisien.
