We arrived there after a long drive from Taragona, excited to stay at a chateau in the Pyrenees, the highlight of our holiday. When we got to the hotel it was deserted although the door was open. We spent some time trying to locate the owner, to no avail. Eventually I rang and was told that they were in Pau 60 k away and they wouldn't be back for 2hours. We were told to find the keys and our room. Despite the fantastic location, the interior of the chateau was a disappointment, unsympathetically modernised. Our "upgraded"room turned out to be off the breakfast room and kitchen. The bed and linen were of good quality and the place was spotless but the room was poky.
We were sitting outside when the owners arrived but they ignored us while they chatted to the other guests and unloaded their shopping.when we tried to book a table for dinner we were told that they were shut that night. It took three attempts to get the owner to book us a table 7kilometres away. I highly recommend la Permayou, who made us feel welcome and served fantastic food, unlike the owners of the Chateau. Not once we're we offered a drink or told when breakfast would be. After a very long day we got to our bed at 11.30 but that is when the kitchen and breakfast room started to be prepared for morning! Not great! Unsurprisingly we went back to Permayou for our breakfast.
