Auberge de Chanteuges

We visited here on a Wednesday evening not having been for 2 or 3 years, knowing it was under new ownership.||||The menu is refreshingly uncomplicated and gives a choice of I think 5 mains as well as starters and desserts. I had a beautifully cooked steak with a fantastic mushroom sauce. I also tried the duck which was equally as nice. I had a really good tarte tatin for dessert. ||||For 4 of us, including a bottle of wine, the bill came to around €100 which I thought was great value for such a good dinner.||||The service was really friendly and relaxed. ||||We're definitely going back when we go next year.

Only about 5-10 minutes' drive from Langeac or 15-20 minutes from Le Puy en Velay, the auberge is offers a great getaway in the charming village of Chanteuges. The service was appreciable, good breakfast, copious and well-designed dishes. Our room got a great view to the autumn mountains and the B&B's little garden with the passing stream - very picturesque and peaceful landscape! Hiking tracks start about 500m from the auberge. Highly recommended !

Quality cuisine superb venue beautiful building in a beautiful hamlet what is there not to like ? French cuisine and wine at its best .. you pay for quality always but really it is not expensive if you want to have a real dining experience what used to be called going out for a meal. For a special occasion it is perfect. I can't recommend it highly enough. If you don't like it there is something wrong with you not the restaurant and venue

We didn't stay at the auberge but visited the restaurant which is under new ownership and is very much improved - the food is indulgent (the pommes de terres Dauphinoise and the tartiflette were fabulous as was the morel mushroom sauce), the wine very agreeable and the cost is not prohibitive - we felt we had value for money. Service was efficient and friendly too. Would definitely recommend.

Spick and span small hotel [5 or so rooms] run by a friendly young couple [husband the good chef]; large dining rooms close to the river clearly service a large area; on the hill above a priory and church in the course of interesting restoration. Excellent spot for over-night pause or base for a walking holiday.

Beautiful house in a beautiful peaceful location overlooking a stream and the hills. Very comfortable and friendly staff. Stayed here in August with a friend for some cycling in the surrounding countryside.

Stunning location at the foot of the hill on which the ancient church and monastery stands, offering a beautiful view of the river; warm welcome, good traditional food, modern rooms... superb stay!

In one word: Wonderful
