Very spacious room, comfortable bed, beautiful view of the city - you can actually see the top of Grand Place’s tower. Quiet for a good night sleep. The pressurizing shower is a bit annoying, but you get used to it! The other things make up for it :) Breakfast was good. There was bread, spreads, cheese, juice, cereals, yogurt and a coffee machine. I just missed more protein - scrambled eggs would be perfect, everybody likes it. Facilities are great and the common areas are very pleasant: you can use a mini kitchen with a microwave and a fridge, there’s a locker room for the day of check in and check out - to keep your luggage, which is very useful!, there’s a water fountain and a toilet. My only observation is: we had some difficulty to get inside on the day of our arrival. Even though I told the staff I’d need a late check in, I couldn’t reach them to open the door for us. I suggest that this policy be reviewed, since it’s not possible for every tourist to make phone calls - international plans don’t always include this service - and there has to be other ways of contact, especially when staff already knows what time the guest will arrive. Besides this situation, everything else was great, it doesn’t even feel like a hostel. I recommend it. Greetings from Brazil!

Auberge de Jeunesse Bruegel is a well-run, thoughtfully designed hostel in a prime location—just minutes from major train and metro stations. I stayed in a 4-bed male dorm with an en-suite shower. The room was spacious, spotless, and well-equipped: clean sheets, large lockers, personal reading lights, and individual power outlets. Each floor features a quiet common area, offering peaceful corners away from the main lounge. The dining room serves a decent breakfast, and there's a small kitchen available if you prefer to cook your own meals. Staff clearly prioritize guest comfort, and the overall cleanliness is impeccable. My only minor critique is that the bottom bunks could use more head clearance. This is one of the most functionally sound hostels I’ve experienced—no flashy gimmicks, no unnecessary quirks. Just solid, reliable hospitality.

Great location and rooms. I was slightly concerned because we weren't given a duvet cover so I'm hoping they wash the duvet between each guest, but we didn't have to put it in the wash basket like the rest of the linen... My check in was fine, but there were two times where I came back from being out and there were people frustrated, waiting to check in. Very often there would be no one at reception, someone watching videos on their phone or a sign saying back in 10 minutes. I tried clicking the bell to help but nobody came. Breakfast was okay. Basic options. The room and bathroom was great. The shower was fine but kind of annoying because you have to keep pressing the button to keep the water going. The location was great in proximity to everything, but I did feel slightly scared at night. They had a water dispenser with cold water and sparkling which was great.

Everything was great, they just need to improve a few details, like assigning each guest a numbered bed instead of a random one. This would give the receptionists more control and guests more security, because when I arrived at the hostel (exhausted), there was a girl sleeping in my bed—a bed I had made earlier. Even though the receptionist was friendly when I arrived, in this particular instance he started laughing and wouldn't let me speak, which is a big plus because I'm a guest who recommends hostels to other travelers. When there's a problem, you should resolve it politely because you don't know how the guest is feeling (tired, hungry, etc.). One more thing: the lockers work with a 1 euro coin plus the key.

Exceptionally Functional Hostel with Thoughtful Design: Auberge de Jeunesse Bruegel is a standout hostel in Brussels. The location is excellent—close to train and metro stations, making transit simple and efficient. I booked a four-bed male dorm with a shower, and the setup was impressively spacious. Clean sheets, large lockers, personal reading light and power outlet—all the essentials are covered. Each floor has its own quiet common area with power source, and the main common areas are generous and well-maintained. The dining room offers a decent breakfast, and there’s a small kitchen if you prefer to cook your own simple meals. The entire space is spotless, and it’s clear they’ve prioritized guest comfort over superficial flair. The only minor drawback: bottom bunks could use more head clearance. Still, this is one of the most functionally sound hostels I’ve stayed in—free of flashy gimmicks and the inconvenient quirks that plague many others.

Late review ( from last year )||The hostel is at a decent location, walkable from city square and station. |We had booked a private triple room, it had a private shower but shared toilet. The private room and bathroom was clean. We were given washed linen to put on the bed and washed comforters to use. The towels were available to rent.|The common room in the lounge was nicely decorated and had a lively atmosphere. |The common toilet was kind of clean but depended on the people using it so not sure how frequently it is cleaned on a given day.

The location is great—central and walkable—but that’s about where the positives end. The rooms lack AC, and mine had a door that didn’t fully close unless you yanked it, which feels unsafe. You have to make and strip your own bed, then carry all the bedding down several floors at checkout (which some other hostels do, but still). The elevator is finicky and doesn’t always work, so expect to use the stairs at least some of the time. The showers are easily the worst I’ve seen anywhere (worst part by far): you must press a hard button every 15–20 seconds to keep the water running (like an airplane bathroom sink), otherwise it shuts off; my shower door also didn’t seal properly, flooding the floor. No towels, bath mats (which would have helped with the flooding), or paper towels provided—just a sink and shower (no toilet). The common areas were dull, dusty, and had cobwebs, with zero atmosphere or activities. I also had to hunt for the “night exit” just to leave for an early flight (was never explained by reception, which just handed me a keycard and said when checkout was and where to bring the bedding). For the price, it’s not worth it—fine for one night in a pinch, but I’d absolutely stay elsewhere next time (very overpriced).

The shower in the room could be modified. Everything was wet beside me. Furthermore the walls need a refurbishment. Some dirt on the walls. but all in all everything was fine and I will come back

Yelp
Great YHA Hostel in the centre of Brussels. Rooms are clean, basic - but ensuite, and cheap. A big downer is the 0100 curfew - I don't know how literally they enforce it, because I didn't test it out, but. walk in at 0100 and there is a banging nightclub in the hostel! So it's not all bad at all cheap leffe, and the DJ does requests. What more could you want?!

Yelp
My experience of this hostel good and I was very pleased with my stay. It was clean and basic, no problem, since I don't stay in youth hostels because I want to imagine that I'm at the Ritz. The staff was very help full...if you want to stay out after 1am the staff can arrange for you to do it...why you might want to spent time in a disco located in a youth hostel, any youth hostel, in a major European city is beyond me...but you can if you want to. I was disapoint in the lack of a real common room, apparently the disco is a substitiue for that...that's why it got only four stars. Also I do not recomend having supper at the hostel especially if you are a vegetarian -- then again there are so many resturants in the general area you can easily find a much better meal at one of them

Yelp
You don't expect any luxury when you stay in a youth hostel. But what we did hope for were a clean room. Our room was tiny and rather dirty (did they even care to use a broom for the floor?) and the en-suite shower (no toilet in the room) was disgusting. Thank got we only stayed one night. The breakfast, which was included, consisted exclusively of toast and jam and some cheap Nutella replacement. Cereals and milk had been there but were out when we arrived at about 8.30.
