We had a great night here and hope to return. Simple clean rooms with everything you need. Comfortable beds. Room was quiet and with a sunny window. Great area with many delicious places to walk . The park across the street is also beautiful and lively with free live music in the summer in the middle of it. They helped us find parking.

Loved everything about this gem! Clean, inviting and well appointed rooms. Super friendly staff. Tremendous breakfast spread! Take your café to one of the balconies and enjoy the morning sun. And excellent location! Giant playground complex across the street for kids.

Nice little spot. Comfortable beds, nice rooms, good AC and good TV. Breakfast is a bit overpriced, but what hotel isn't? Great location near the park. Walking distance to many things. Would definitely stay here again

Really enjoyed our stay here. Quaint, quiet, great location. Had everything we needed and nothing more for a couple days in Montreal. After hours arrival was easy with a lockbox for our room key. Lots of food options and metro within walking distance.

This hotel is conveniently located in a hip, trendy, walkable neighborhood that is accessible from downtown Montreal. Our bed was super comfortable, and we loved being able to open the crank windows to watch the people passing by at the beautiful park across the street. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Wonderful location in Plateau section of Montreal. Across the street from Park La Fontaine. Convenient to lots of restaurants, & a short bus ride to Mont-Royal.|Room was clean & spacious. Walkable to Schwartzs, St. Viateur Bagels, & La Banquise for poutine. Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed for a month and a half while studying. Affordable during low season. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and modern. The beds are comfortable. The TV box has a lot to watch if you want to spend a day inside. When you want to go out there are many shops nearby, especially on mont royal avenue. Bixi right in front. When walking down the street you can see in the distance Mont Royal on one side and the Olympic Stadium on the other. I enjoyed my stay.

Perfect hotel, in the perfect location. Cozy, nice vibe, great staff - will be my first choice when visiting the city. Thanks a lot to the staff for being so accommodating, knowledgeable and resourceful 👌

Yelp
Outstanding micro hotel that really did remind me of the French auberges I've stayed at. It's not quite so homey -- the proprietors aren't living on-site -- so it has more in common with boutique hotels than true auberge or B&Bs, but the service was exquisite and incredibly attentive, albeit only there for a limited window in the afternoon, and that was true to the name. The 1860's building is a bit of a warren, but that added to its charm in our opinion; you'll never stay in a place quite like this one. The rooms themselves are quite up to date, and other than a few eccentricities (the toilet lid kept sliding off, and one of the wall outlets without a lamp on it turned out to be on a wall switch, so our phones didn't charge overnight!) quite comfortable. We did have a short problem with somebody blasting music so loudly it came in through our interior-room window around 11 PM, so the sound proofing could use a little help, but we otherwise didn't hear any city sounds at all. The air was not controllable; part and parcel of being in an old place. Fortunately we were visiting when the weather outside was comfortable and the air circulation was good enough that despite our inability to control the temperature, it was fine and relatively fresh. We heard not a peep from other guests at night. As noted, there are no elevators, and if Canada had a Canadians-with-Disabilities Act like the US ADA, this place would probably have to shut down; there's just no way to make a lot of the rooms here accessible and you have to go up and down the short stairs yourself with your gear (although plenty of help was offered by the staff). Parking is also, well, city parking. We found street parking on the side but the instructions about how to get a billet at the parking kiosk needed some improvement. The only fault I have with the location is it's quite a haul to the nearest metro station; otherwise it's fantastic, in the heart of Plateau Mont Royal, across from the park of the same name as the Inn, easy to get to a lot of things if you're car or bike mobile. I neglected to ask if they had a place to put bikes; if you can bring a bike, this would be a great spot for a bike-based visit to our favorite city. The breakfast is extra (included with some packages) and was a lovely classic continental, with fantastic Montréal bagels and pastries. There was also what looked like a nice selection of smoked meats / cold cuts that looked very tempting, but we keep vegetarian these days; sigh. So tasty looking. We had a fab little time in the small lobby/breakfast area, and honestly, that was the part that really was reminiscent of our younger days staying in country auberges. One small quibble idiosyncratic to us: at the management's request, we downgraded from a room with two beds to one with one to accommodate a family with younger children who needed the extra space, in exchange for one with a King bed and a rollaway for our teen. Unfortunately the rollaway was terrible and he had a terrible night's sleep, while we snoozed away blissfully on our incredibly comfortable big bed. But note I'm still posting five stars: it was that pleasant.

Yelp
This is the cutest hotel. We have two queen beds and all amenities. Having problems with tv remote but it is probably just me. There are no elevators, just as a note. And breakfast is included starting at 7:00 am. Lots of restaurants nearby for lunch and dinner.

Yelp
We stayed here for two weeks and absolutely would do it again. Other than the nightly hunt for parking, this hotel gets high marks from us. The staff was helpful to the max, going above and beyond to help us. The morning breakfast was perfect with just enough variety, especially delicious bread! It's walking distance to two main shopping streets with tons of restaurants. In addition. Its right across from a wonderful park! Our rooms were clean and comfortable. I'm ready to return!

Yelp
3.5 stars This is a basic bed and breakfast - simple as that. If you're expecting some high-end, romanticized version of an auberge... and you pay the full rack rate, you'll likely be disappointed. If you book knowing that you're getting a basic B&B... and you manage to score a discounted rate, then this place is just fine. Four of us stayed there in four separate rooms: an unrenovated one on the ground floor with a queen bed, two rooms on the third floor, and a suite on the second floor... and all four were distinctly different. The unrenovated room looked tired and worn and had dated decor (carpet) and fixtures (ie., old toilet.) The corner room had a king bed and good natural light during the day because it has two windows. Unfortunately, it still has carpet. The other third floor one was renovated, had a queen bed and had hardwood floors. The suite had two separate rooms: a living room with brick walls... but with carpet. The bedroom has a queen bed and a jacuzzi tub. The front desk guys during the afternoons/evenings were very helpful. (Didn't get a chance to talk to the guy working the overnight shift.) The free breakfast - for what it is (a continental breakfast) - was decent.

Yelp
We couldn't be happier! A wonderful hotel and only a ten minute walk to the Metro. Across the street from Parc de la Fontaine provided lovely views from our windows. Breakfast every morning was delicious and if we wanted, substantial. Eggs croissants yogurt or fruit. Bagels and lox. Fruit of all kinds. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable (always a plus when you're traveling). The rooms were clean and well kept. A wonderful hotel. One small quibble - The soap in the bathroom was not replenished. Just use the free shampoo. And two great poutine restaurants are a five minute walk to the right. You'll know you're there because you'll see the lines out front.

Yelp
I stayed here and found the hotel to be pretty basic. This would be fine, but we paid a premium price of $242 CA for it. Here are a few of my issues with it: - housekeeping didn't clean up cups - housekeeping didn't restock toilet paper - a/c didn't get cold enough, and when I called the front desk about it, they said there was nothing they could do - far from public transportation - the light switch doesn't do anything, which left the room dark - the a/c box in the room doesn't seem to do anything - the room (#33) was on the small side - my email requesting a particular room was not responded to But the front desk was very helpful, and I appreciated the light breakfast, and water that was available throughout the day.

Yelp
We have been coming to Montreal for years, usually staying in pricey hotels. We are so happy to find this jewel. Very reasonably priced but with amenities way above its price! The staff was very welcoming and helpful. We stayed in room 7, small, cozy, impeccably clean and quite a climb up to the third floor. We appreciated the exercise after eating in all the local restaurants. The breakfast menu varied slightly daily. The breakfast chef obviously took pride in her presentation. The parking was a bit of a challenge, but the desk attendant actually walked outside and directed me. Plenty of options. We've definitely found our new 'go to' hotel in Montreal.

Yelp
This is our 3rd time staying at Auberge de la Fontaine. We love this location because it is about a 10 minute stroll to Rue St Denis, our favourite street in Montreal, filled with plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops. La Banquise, open 24 hrs, is just 5 minutes away if you have a hankering for poutine in the wee hours. This time we had one of their smaller rooms (#7) on the 3rd floor with a balcony facing the Parc la Fontaine across the street. Noise from the park can carry into the room. During our stay, we heard skateboarders on the other side of the park Be warned if you have a lot of heavy luggage, there is no elevator and the stairs are a bit steep. For those driving, there are only 3 parking spots behind the hotel. A cab ride from the Via train station took about 15 minutes during rush hour. Breakfast was included with room rates and served every morning from 7-10 on the main floor which had a view of Rue Rachel. On offer was coffee, tea, cold cereal with milk, yogurt, 2 types of bread (the sunflower seed bread was sooooo good), bagels, croissant, muffins, hard boiled eggs, savoury spreads, cheese, peanut butter, jam, honey, butter, a selection of fresh fruit, grapefruit and apple juice and one hot dish. Snacks and beverages were available in the kitchen which was open to all guests, 24/7. During our visit, they also had infused water in the afternoon which was most welcome during the hot weather. Our room did not have a safe but did have a mini fridge which came in handy for storing beers we bought at SAQ on St Denis. The bathroom was utilitarian but clean, with a hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion. Check in and check out was friendly and quick. During our stays, we noticed that the guests seemed to be mostly older couples. This place is not for everyone but if you want quaint and quiet accommodations, it is perfect.

Yelp
Stayed here on a recent trip to Montreal and am so glad we did! Get a room with a view of the park if you can. That's what we had. It is a really cute B&B type place. The service was wonderful and the guy at the desk gave us wonderful restaurant recommendations and drew on a map to show us where everything was. There is a kitchen where there are always snacks, water, etc. The front desk also sells beer and wine. They have a wonderful roof deck and we were able to sit up there and enjoy it with a bottle of wine since the weather was so nice. The location is good - about 10 mins from metro which we only used once, but still convenient. It is also right around the corner from one of the most well known poutine places. The breakfast was included which was coffee, juice, fruit, croissant, eggs, etc. On Sunday they even had a bottle of champage!!! That was really generous. I've never gone anywhere they have champagne when breakfast is included. Our room was fine and modern. The area is pretty quiet and I was happy to not be staying downtown.

Yelp
By far the most pleasant hotel experience I had in a long time. From the warm and friendly welcome to all the small and simple things and services provided with a smile this hotel can claim what most bigger houses lack...great hospitality...and not to forget: the breakfast was really, really good.

Nicole A.

Yelp
First off, the service here is top notch. The attendants did everything to accommodate our room requests and continually wanted to ensure they did everything to make sure we were as happy as possible. Much appreciated. Breakfast is good; fresh croissants, yoghurt, fruit, some kind of eggs or quiche, muffins, cereal etc. Rooms were very clean. Only thing is very limited rooms with two queens so staying as a family you may need to rent two rooms but off season they will try to give you the best price. Also the rooms don't have a small refrigerator or coffee/tea which seemed a bit less than standard relative to the price. But all and all it's a nice place to stay and service makes it memorable.

Yelp
We enjoyed amazing hospitality at the Auberge La Fontaine! We originally found it while looking for hotels near the Fitz & Follwell bike tour starting point. We loved the location - only a 60 second walk from the Park and surrounded by restaurants and cafes. The park is very family friendly with a restaurant and mini train for children. My wife and I stayed for four nights with our two year old daughter. We stayed in a suite with a private balcony overlooking Fontaine Park. The view was delightful and the spacious balcony was perfect for wine & Poutine in the evening. The jacuzzi bathtub was wonderful. There was a nice array of soaps and shampoos and the beds were super comfortable. The hospitality we received was superb. Tarik & Jonathan were particularly delightful. They were quick to assist with restaurant recommendations, taxis and luggage. Tarik even helped us reaarange some of the furniture in the suite. Jonathan helped explain the local Poutine options and even called in our order for pick up. Breakfast each morning was a treat. We loved the homemade quiche, smooth coffee and tasty assortment of fruits and pastry. Before we left we received a wonderful painted postcard of the hotel. We're going to frame it so we always have a memory of our wonderful stay. Thank you so much for all of your help and making our daughter's first trip to Canada absolutely perfect!

Yelp
Noted as "Hotel de Charme," Auberge de La Fontaine is so much more than just charm. Everything from the extremely friendly and helpful staff, to an open help-yourself kitchen of cookies, cheese, crackers and tea, to cozy and clean rooms featuring simple, yet abstract and tasteful art, to the complimentary, homemade breakfast of pastries, fresh fruits and eggs, to the amazing view of the park, the Auberge is a quaint place to stay when traveling to Montreal. Located in the heart of Pleatau Mont-Royal, the Auberge is within walking distance to tons of shops, restaurants, museums and a metro station. And if you can't find what you're looking for, don't hesitate to ask someone at the front desk to make a suggestion. During our stay, the staff members went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and relaxed. And because we visited Montreal outside of the inn's peak season, the hotel let us upgrade to the master suite for what seemed like $20 extra dollars per day. The upgrade was definitely worth it, as we gained access to the entire front roof deck with full view of the park, had a much larger room and had a Jacuzzi bathtub in the midst of it all. The tub was used more than the deck, as it was about -2 degrees Fahrenheit during the majority of our stay, but the view of the snow-covered park was an added bonus. And though by hotel ratings, the inn only received three stars, I give it five for all aforementioned reasons and because if I'm ever in Montreal again, I will stay at the Auberge de La Fontaine.

Yelp
While I was at SUNY Potsdam (2 hours southwest of Montréal in Upstate New York), my girlfriend, who was living in Columbus, OH and who had never been to MTL before was coming to visit. So I had the brilliant idea to take her on a relatively short, 24 hour trip to North America's Little Paris, for a romantic, albeit frigid March getaway. What I was looking for: - A charming, romantic hotel with European flair. - A hotel that is conveniently located near the Metro and the Plateau neighbourhood. - A place with friendly staff (esp. to a bunch of Anglos) and ample parking. - A clean room with a homey feel. We got EVERYTHING we bargained for. What an excellent, excellent hotel and experience! It was quite romantic, the staff was SO kind (they allowed us to keep our belongings up front since we arrived before check-in time), we parked right out in front, and the place was a 10 or so minute walk to the Metro. Despite the frigid chill outside, Auberge de La Fontaine was a key ingredient in our falling in love with Montéal. We constantly talk about how much we miss it and how much we want to go back someday, or potentially live there if we just spoke French. I know at some point I will be taking her back to Auberge for a romantic getaway long weekend :).

Yelp
The Auberge De La Fontaine is a nice, small hotel with a friendly hostel-type vibe. We had a cute room on the third floor. It was very private and quiet, although we were on the front of the building, we didn't hear a lot of street noise, or windows were open mostly. We were so happy to have a view of the park and loved the hotel's location, in La Plateau. The hotel offer access to a small kitchen and snacks until midnight and the staff is young, down-to-earth and friendly enough. This was our first visit to Montreal and we were greatly relieved that we had not chosen a hotel in the touristy Vieux Port as La Plateau is not all that far away, just two stops on the metro. We found great restaurants in La Plateau also.

Yelp
Love this place! They have literally the best coffee I've ever had. Came here about a month ago and still can't stop thinking about the coffee. I downloaded yelp specifically to write about the coffee here lol. It's pretty serious.

Yelp
I live in Brooklyn and the neighborhood in which Auberge de La Fontaine is located feels just like home: numerous good restaurants, wine bars, mom-and-pop shops like Chocolats de Chloe, and lovely parks. In fact, Parc de la Fontaine is directly across the street and Parc du Mont-Royal is within a leisurely walking distance. Every site we wanted to visit, such as Marche Jean Talon or Librairie Drawn & Quarterly, was a few metro stops away. The staff was unfailingly helpful and kind. My favorite part of staying at Auberge de La Fontaine was how the staff encouraged guests to "raid" the fridge at any time of day. This came in handy one night when my hubby and I weren't hungry enough for a full dinner but were peckish. So we dined on quiche that was left over from breakfast accompanied by toast with jam, plus cookies for dessert. (Note: the kitchen is always fully stocked with cookies!) My only wish is that our room had drawers or shelves in which I could have unpacked my clothes; instead, I had to keep my belongings in the closet or on a chair.

Yelp
This fabulous little boutique hotel is incredibly well run. Older, but nicely and simply redone. The manager, Terriq, was very attentive to detail, gave us a number of recommendations for restaurants that were spot-on. Generous and well made breakfast; plenty of free parking nearby; just across the street from a gorgeous large park; large roof deck on the top floor (nice for a late night glass of wine!) It felt a bit more like staying at someone's home than an anonymous hotel experience. FYI - no elevator and a lot of stairs.

Eddie C.

Yelp
Do not stay here if you drive. They claim about free parking but they actually meant you have to find your own street parking, which is impossible to find since everywhere is being restricted. Don't trust Expedia if you are going through them. They will just screw you over with their "extremely kind" attitude and customer service.

Tony M.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Me and my girlfriend spent a long weekend in Montreal to enjoy the sights and to attend the Igloofest. This hotel has the friendliest and most helpful staff I have ever come across. They gave me directions, made reservations and even set up a package deal for the Igloofest. This included a great price for the hotel room, tickets to the igloofest, coupons for drinks and much more! We will definitely be returning very soon!

James K.

Yelp
Nice, small and cheap. It looks a lot like 1990, but it's clean and well kept. Good value for money. Feels like a student residence. Super nice sells beer at the desk. Free pretzels.

Brienne T.

Yelp
Went here for a weekend on a Groupon - great decision. Location is convenient and on the quieter side, right across from the park. We found free parking for the weekend right across the street and never had to move our car. Free snacks/tea in the snack room open 24/7. Front desk was super helpful - called places to get us in for dinner, recommended things to do, and gave us easy to follow directions. Breakfast was free in the morning - oatmeal, fruit, hard boiled eggs, muffins, toast/bagels. Room was small but cozy, beds were slightly uncomfortable. I would return.
