After a truly magical day exploring Gruyères village and its magnificent castle, our family decided to cap it off with dinner at Auberge de la Halle, and it was absolutely the best decision we could have made! From the moment we stepped inside, we were enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The ambience was simply perfect, creating a cozy and authentic Swiss dining experience. Our waitress was incredibly pleasant and attentive, providing excellent service throughout our meal. She expertly guided us through the menu, sharing fascinating insights into the culinary secrets of Swiss traditions, which added an extra layer of enjoyment to our dining experience. The food itself was nothing short of amazing. Each dish was a delectable masterpiece, bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. We could tell that the chefs took great pride in their craft, using high-quality ingredients and showcasing the best of Swiss cuisine. It was a truly memorable culinary journey. Auberge de la Halle exceeded our expectations in every way. The combination of the delightful ambience, the exceptional service, and the exquisite food made it a 5-star dining experience. If you're looking for an authentic and delicious meal in Gruyères, we highly recommend Auberge de la Halle!

A really lovely place for Swiss dishes! They have a stunning window view, so be sure to reserve in advance if you’d like to dine with the view.

Had the fondue here and it was amazing. The potatoes and bread that came with it were really good too. Service was fast and friendly. If you’re in Gruyères and looking for a good spot to eat, this place is definitely worth it.

The taste of fondu is good enough, but the smell inside is unbearable for me, maybe it is because of the cheese but I dont know, I didnt want to be inside. Anyways, you will like the fondu.

A friendly greeting from the waitress and a comfortable seat on a sunny terrace made for a good start to a fabulous meal. The very tasty fondue combined with the usual selection of bread, potatoes and pickles was filling and the cold meat platter topped it all off! Definitely recommend!

The service was horrible,I’ve never been treated like this before, when the server took my menu away she moved my placemat and my cutlery with it and then she had the audacity not to put it back. The food was overpriced, the vibe was off.For a place that is know for their fondue, the fondue was revolting and smelt horrid. We were 7 people eating the fondue but they only gave us one pot of fondue. There were no servers that spoke English so it was hard to ask questions about the food. To summarise the food was decent nothing to die for and the service was the worst. Don’t come here!

TL;DR: absolutely amazing food + service, and rather good value for money We came to Gruyeres for its eponymous cheese, and frankly had quite a headache choosing where to stay and eat given the mixed review most places have got. We chose Auberge de la Halle halfly because of the excellent reviews it's had, and also because it's open till relatively late (we arrived in the late evening) -- it proved to be the right choice and this was easily the best meal throughout our trip in Switzerland. We ordered the chalet soup, rosti with ham and egg, fondue moitié-moitié, pear and raspberry sorbet, and the meringue with berries and cream. Everything was lovely... The soup was creamy and flavourful without being too heavy. The rosti was crispy, rich and cheesy (and not too salty/greasy -- as it often is). The fondue was very fragrant with the white wine coming through very well and actually making the dish surprisingly light for what it is (cheese + potato + bread!). The meringue with berries and sorbet made for a delightful end to the meal -- although we admittedly enjoyed the savoury dises more. We also want to give a shout out to the waiter and waitress -- we were two of the last customers that night and they remained very friendly, helpful and attentive. We never felt rushed, and all the suggestions the staff gave proved to be on point. We honestly cannot recommend this place enough. It's an easy 5/5 across the board. If we ever have the chance to visit Gruyeres again, we'll be sure to dine here again.

A very charming restaurant, the food was really delicious: amazing soupe du chalet and 100% vacherin fondue. Great they had option for a 1-person fondue for some of them. Nice historic meaning. Will return!

Yelp
Obviously, this is a bit of a tourist trap, but we have to have fondue in Gruyères! Auberge had the best reviews and was the least busy. Also we had a stunning view of the hillside while we ate! I have to roast an old review of this place by Mike O. Fun fact, melted cheese and bread existed way before it became popular in the states in the 60's... We ate our entire crock of cheese. It was effing delicious. Also enjoyed a bottle of local wine, rounded out by some lovely meringues, cream, and berries. Super cute space with friendly service.

Yelp
A worthwhile stop in Gruyeres, Switzerland for any cheese lover! Like many of the restaurants in the area, the menu offers cheese and some more cheese. They have many different variations of raclette and fondue. We had the truffle fondue and it was delicious. The setting is really quaint - a traditional wooden paneled interior overlooking the beautiful Swiss countryside. We had a great time!

Yelp
During the Golden Pass Chocolate train, a visit to Gruyères was one of the stops, where you have about two hours of free time. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to have lunch, and since we haven't tried genuine Swiss raclette yet, a quick Google search led us to Auberge de la Halle. They have an AYCE raclette, but everyone at the table would need to order this. I don't remember how much it was but I remember it not being worth it since raclette is so heavy, you won't be able to eat boatloads of it anyway. Plus they give you bread, potatoes, and pickles onions and gherkins. So we decided to just do a regular order of the raclette, and then get an entree to share. The raclette was AMAZING. They bring a machine to your table and give you a whole chunk of gruyere cheese. The machine has a tray that swivels, so you can decide how melted you want your cheese. Just be sure to eat it quick once you scrape it because the cheese cools off really quickly. The entree we ordered on the other hand was mediocre. We had the smoked ham and rösti and it just reminded me of cafeteria food for some reason. All of this was too much food, so you're better off just ordering one raclette and getting an appetizer or something. Would definitely recommend Auberge de la Halle but again, just stick to the raclette! (I'm sure the fondue is equally as good too).

Yelp
Tourist-Swiss food from another era (1960's) served with grace and a great view, but not for me. +++ beautiful outdoor seating on the village square when weather is nice. ++ prices are very low considering tourism here ++ vibrant lively spot with low ceilings and good cheer ++ great spot to drag your weary rug rats (ahem screaming kids) ## not so much for those who don't have kids and just want a quiet lunch +++ THE CHEESE. seriously. I could just have a bowl of it and just dip my spoon (or straw) into it and gorge myself. It's on the menu: "Fondue"!! ## didn't have the champagne listed on the menu, only cava. Not surprised. At half bottle, inne they don't have many takers. ### egg atop crotie is cooked "over-Armageddon". Seriously it's already on it's way to being a fossil. ## vinegary cocktail onions belong in Gibsons and last-minute hors douvres plates, not on Plats (main dishes) I wanted a nice semi-formal lunch but this one is for the tourists. Enjoy.
