Having visited the Auberge we decided to book a table for dinner the following day. Bad decision. The food was tasteless and we really cannot understand why both sliced and mashed carrots were served together? The chairs are hard and no cushions were provided and, we were not given clean knives and fork after our first course. The meal was very overpriced and without the panoramic view of the lake we doubt very much whether this restaurant would be busy. Once is enough. We must mention the quality and friendliness of the servers. The young lady was exceptional. Quite obviously the owners trade off the location not the quality of food. We will not be eating there again.

Our first visit and we were taken here by a friend. The location is incredible and in summer the terrace on the lake is stunning. The food was delicious. Very local dishes updated in an interesting way. French cuisine given a makeover. Great wine at reasonable prices. Super lovely staff. The interior is so atmospheric. Even though we live less than an hour away, we will come and stay for a night for the food and beautiful hikes on the doorstep

This small hotel is a true gem. The location on the shore of a beautiful lake in the middle of a national park is exceptional. The views are stunning. We revisited this place again this year, almost twenty years after our last stay there. The new owners have done a marvelous job at giving it a comprehensive update while preserving the charm of the place. The restaurant is fantastic, the service friendly and personal.

The rooms we were on the top floor in the roof. In our room the sloping roof was such that my wife had to bend double to avoid hitting her head to get in and out of bed. It did at least have a small shower. However when my wife went to open the room door the inner handle came off in her hand. Fortunately the door had opened sufficiently for us to get out. The other room in our booking was slightly larger but had a claw footed bath in the room. No privacy whatever. There was a hand held shower in the bath. Breakfast was a farce. We arrived to find there was virtually no food available and staff who clearly had no idea of what to do, Eventually the owner appeared and managed to provide some food.|Altogether a poor experience only salvaged to some extent by the waitress in the restaurant who was very pleasant and helpful.

This is really the perfect place to stay in the Auvergne - we spent four nights here and were very sad to leave. It is set in a wonderful position, overlooking Lac de Guery, with snow-capped mountains in the distance amidst stunning and dramatic countryside. It is a small, historic auberge with all the authentic charm of a country inn. The decor is excellent - combining rustic charm with great style, and retaining the atmosphere of a true auberge. The proprietors, Eric and Nathalie, run a brilliant operation with a young, enthusiastic and very professional team. The atmosphere is extremely friendly and the service impeccable - everyone went out of their way to be helpful. A truly pleasant surprise was the quality of the food - important since the nearest restaurants are several miles away! This is a seriously good kitchen and the chef, Pascal, is a maestro, producing beautifully-cooked, imaginative dishes with plenty of regional touches. The quenelles de brochet (one of the greatest of French dishes) were faultless and the riz d’agneau mouth-watering; the vegetables were delicious. There is a clever wine list with a focus on wines from volcanic regions including, of course, the local wines of the Auvergne. There is a very well appointed hammam and sauna. All in all we cannot recommend this Auberge highly enough. And, finally, our dog had a lovely time and was made to feel very welcome!

We have stayed at the hotel for two nights with half pension. The room was very nice with seaview. Charmingly renovated with a very comfy bed. Unfortunately there was only a bathtub and no shower, so the choice was either to water the room or to sit in the tub....|There is also a ventilation system that is on between 8 and 20 o'clock and cannot be turned off. Breakfast at 10€ is well wortg its money and comes with bread, jam, croissant, juice and cheese or smoked ham/ sausage. Dinner in half pension consists of either starter or dessert and main course. Food was very good, fresh and tasty. We had fish that was well cooked and tasted great. the vegetables aside were a bit tasteless.|The team was very enthusiastic and helpful, the atmosphere in the hotel is very special and enjoyable. They have a small spa that should not be missed!|Make sure you enjoy a drink outside with lakeview!

The Auberge du Lac, the gem of the lake. On the borders exactly, with a stunning landscape, specially when the fog hides this gem, the terrace is exquisite and a place to unwind with a glass of wine and some local cheese after a long day hike. Or the fireplace inside for when the weather is too cold. We went there in September to hike in the PARC DES VOLCAN D'AUVERGNES. We where 3 best friends and we used a big room for 3! All rooms and hotel are newly redecorated with taste and smarts. The team there is hospitable, nice and respectful. The food (dinner) was absolutely delicious! At par with some of the Michelin stars we tried later on the trip. The owner was super nice to us, with special requests granted, like when we asked her to leave earlier to follow the sun and change route she did not charge us the last night. (Check the weather after September, as the volcanoes have a very personal way of mending the weather :) Don't miss it on the road!
