Lovely 4 star hotel, with a nice swimming pool and gardens. Not particularly luxurious (have a look at the car radio (really!) in the bathroom to get a sense of what I mean) but absolutely fine.
Dinnner was not as much of a success. Food-wise it was okay. The pigeon was spectacular (90 points, 46 euros)), the veal acceptable (85, 34 euros)), chocolate dessert very good (88, 15 euros) and the cheese a bit too warm and not in optimum condition, which was a pity considering the large Belgian selection (87, 18 euros). Service was alright but not a single person smiled and no one really looked like they enjoyed themselves and there was zero interaction with us as guests, despite me speaking French. The 'kids' menu' was none of that - pan friend cod fish with vegetables'. The fish was nice (and at 25 euros it better be!) but that's hardly a kids' menu. We had to ask 3 times to figure out what the price of the wines by the glass was and what they served. The selection was uninspired and included wines that sell for 5 euros a bottle retail, for 10 euros a glass.
This restaurant has 1 Michelin star and some dishes, like the pigeon, warrant it. The experience, however, did not and we had a far better meal (and far better value meal) at the unrated St Gerlach hotel and restaurant the day before. The hotel was fine for a night but I wouldn't rush to return.
