Amazing location, helpful staff, homely vibe and social hostel, without amenities. The services aren’t great, air conditioning doesn’t work and couldn’t get fixed during our stay for the week (during summer). Washrooms are cramped and also had plumbing issues. I wouldn’t recommend it at all if you’re looking for comfort, but definitely yes if you’re looking for a great location with a good overall vibe.

Fine for what it was but wouldn't stay again (or at least not in the private bunk bed room). Pros: staff were friendly, the location is great, and the terrace was a welcomed amenity. Cons: Our AC was broken, there's no outlet/extension cord for the top bunk + not all the outlets worked, the kitchen is not accessible after 9pm (even if you just want to put food in the fridge), and there's only two toilets per floor (one broke during our stay). The terrace also gets rented out for private events and was unavailable for guests half of the time (there's no heads up about this).

I had a wonderful stay at the Auberge du Plateau (private room, shared bathrooms). Super clean, quiet, and with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The common room is great, with a very nice breakfast each morning. Great location, a short walk from the metro and to Saint Laurent. Able to leave my bags after checkout until my train later that day. If I return to Montreal I will certainly stay again.

I am flabbergasted, this place is better than most hotels I have stayed. It is absolutely beautiful, close to basically everywhere by foot, bus stop in front, metro 5 mins away. Lobby is so pretty, nice romantic French music, or some lovely jazz is playing in the back. Everyone I talked to at the front desk was very kind and friendly. They are very accommodating too. Rooms are clean, they give you fresh bedding and towels. Toilet was also clean. The bed was comfortable. And the breakfast?? It was perfect, they even make you fresh pancakes, it was an amazing start of the day. They even had real marmalade🤤 Kitchen is well equipped and also spotless. I can’t believe I paid $20 for such beautiful service. I am definitely coming back.

The staff was nice but came inside the room while we were getting ready. The door to our room wouldn’t lock, we locked it at night and we woke up at 3 am with the door open. There is no isolation in the room whatsoever, you felt as though you were a part of next room’s conversation, made it kind of awkward. The room looked nice but really overpriced for what it was. Plus the AC is non functional. They asked us if we wanted towels and they gave us a cloth the size of our forearm. Overall, we tried to like it but it’s just a massive no.

I stayed there 5 nights in a 8 bed mixed dorm. Staff were amazing , friendly and helpful. Free breakfast was tasty. Place was very clean. Bed was VERY firm which I liked. Was given an extra pillow when I needed. Room was cramped , but I knew that before arrival. They sell awesome fresh baked cookies. Was able to store some of my baggage at reception to save space in the dorm ( thank you ). Was able to do laundry , which I apreciated. Location is excellent ( my favorite neighborhood ). Will definitely come back for my next time in Montreal. But I will choose different room.

Yelp
I stayed in a semi-basement twin room with private bathroom for a few nights and had a great experience. The staff and other guests were friendly, the room was clean and WARM (which was a huge plus for me as I'm used to a way milder winter than what Montréal has going on in February), had plenty of hangers and space to hang clothes, no issues with water pressure or temperature. Really enjoyed the pancake breakfast in the lounge (there were also hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, toast, orange slices, plus coffee and tea)! The room I stayed in had a separate entrance from the main building - you had to go down the street a bit and then the door was in an alley (right on the corner, though, so you didn't actually have to go down the alley at all), which opened into a foyer shared by three private rooms. The room had a exposed concrete floor which was awkward and the mattresses were on the hard side, but these are minor complaints and for the price I'd gladly take these little things over more serious problems. Also, not an issue for me, but the place is not accessible if you can't do stairs because there are stairs leading the the reception and main lounge, and also stairs leading down to the basement rooms. The only thing that was actually off-putting to me was that I could hear conversations from the next room, and during my first night, there was a lot of weird banging/door slamming that I hope was just guests coming and going, but I have no idea why it was so aggressive. The conversation thing would probably be a non-issue for most people - I'm just really sensitive to noise - but these people were keeping their volume at a normal level and kept quiet at night, it was only during the day that I could hear them. A little note that they go by both Auberge du Plateau and Gîte du Plateau - "gîte" is what's on the sign out front, but a lot of their online presence lists them as "auberge". If I were visiting Montréal again and needed a place in this area, I would for sure choose this place again because the vibe was very pleasant, the accommodations were functional and comfortable enough considering I wasn't spending a ton of time in the room, and despite the night noises, I had the sense that the place was "legit".

Yelp
Really great spot, I would highly recommend this place since it's so well situated and they do free pancakes on morning! They provide a lot of different services and amenities on top of the room. For free or little money.

Yelp
Le Gite du Plateau hostel is great place for travelers and those who seek asylum from there routine day to days, with breathtaking rooftop views and easy access to all points of this beautiful city, the Plateau and Downtown Montreal especially. There is also a small porch area on each floor, which I think is a pretty cool nook to chop it up with a cutie from Switzerland and burn one to the sky on behalf of me and my ninjas. Check-in was quick and easy, and is in the same space as the living room/kitchen/dining/internet area. Very spacious first floor that entices interactions with other guests - a great way to meet people from all walks of life and different shades and share thoughts. It is truly a beautiful thing, and it doesn't cost a fuckin' French penny (which no longer exists, btw). Complimentary breakfast from 7h to 10h every morning. I think 8h on Sundays. I was assigned to the six-bed rooftop mixed room (male and female), in which you are given a key for after 11pm access, as the Roof is locked and only accessible to those bunked there. The rooftop area itself is amazing. It has a camp site feel to it because of the outdoor sink and mirror, as well as the toilet and shower rooms. All I was missing was some bad bitches and some marshmallows for that ass. Next time I book here I plan on filling all six beds, therefore my heathens and I have exclusive access to the rooftop from 23h until 8h. Great way to impress the ladies. The staff at Le Gite are amazing as well, and diverse - which I totally dig. I had about a quarter bottle of Ciroc Red Berry I had brought from Boston (Ciroc is not sold in Montreal) that I didn't want to carry on my last day after check out, so the ladies who worked there helped me polish the bottle clean. It was there first time ever seeing and tasting it, so I'm glad I was able to get them hip to what we Bostonians like to swig to get right 'til sunlight. The one negative thing to say about Le Gite is that the entire first floor is closed after 23h, and doesn't open until 6h or 7h. I'd like to have been able to fix a meal or clean my draws during off-peak hours. Also, the indoor seating area on the second floor is very small with only one pair of outlets. Not a huge deal, but a bit inconvenient at the slightest. If you are in need of a hostel to hang your hat and kick your feet, Le Gite in my book is highly recommended. You won't be disappointed. Safe travels and no glove, no love. Go Bruins!!! *Beantowns Finest*

Yelp
I've only traveled to countries where you're lucky to have hot water and things like pillows are luxuries and certainly you'd be a fool to assume they're provided, and so I arrived to Montreal with low expectations. Well, this hostel provides all those basics, and perhaps a few more (coffee/tea/toast when you walk downstairs, included in the already great price!) Here are my favorite things: 1. LOCATION - you're away from all the touristy crap along Rue St Catherine (like, unless you came to go to Starbucks and Aldo, I prefer this area because it's close enough for me to go run up to the chalet at Mont Royal, and it's a drunken stumble from sooo many good bars and still close enough to walk to Jazz Fest) 2. STAFF - umm supernice, knowledgeable, and helpful. I ask a lot of dumb questions, and Bhyrn (I think that's his name, which I am copying from my receipt...) helped me plan my day, and made fantastic suggestions. 3. quasi-BREAKFAST - included! 4. $1.00 storage! I checked out, and they let me stash my backpacking bag for a buck. Sweet. 5. Wi-fi - I didn't have a computer, but it's nice they provide internet free. 6. BIXI ACROSS THE STREET!!!! CAVEAT: They are not a party-hostel, don't bring your booze and berespectful (or just choose another). I like to drink, but it was nice to feel relaxed. If I return to Montreal, I will stay here. (For comparison, I stayed at HI Auberge Juenesse, but it felt like a jail and there were large tour bus groups with kids that looked like they were in high school.)

Yelp
Great hostel great place Very hot... WHY MONTREAL!? Pancakes make better. This is a pretty great hostel experience. My only complaint was with the hot hot weather that made for an uncomfortably hot night. I was particularly appreciative of their accommodations. I have my Bixi key shipped here and they kept it safe for me upon my arrival. Everyone was super nice, very responsive to emails and questions. And there was a nice pancake breakfast in the morning! Thanks Le Gite!

Yelp
This is an great hostel (as far as hostels go at least). I went to Montreal during college on a very little budget so I decided to stay at a hostel instead of a hotel. This hostel is located in the heart of Montreal, walking distance from everything, and is friendly and clean. I reserved a private room here for a really reasonable rate which had a big bed, a sink, as well as a nice balcony overlooking the street. The first floor has a kitchen and a community room as well as the front desk and the upstairs floors had the rooms and community bathrooms. If you're looking for a hostel in Montreal look no further than Le Gite de Plateau Mont-Royal.

Yelp
Wonderful hostel. My sister and I stayed here for four nights. It's clean and comfortable. The staff are so lovely and helpful. Carl is the best! Highly recommend that you rest your weary travel legs in Le Gite du Plateau Mont-Royal!

Yelp
For anyone new to hostels you have to understand that these are not hotels and should not be judged accordingly. As for Le Gîte there are upsides and downsides just like any hostel. Positives +Very friendly staff! They are willing to go out of their way to help with anything during your stay. +Nice terrace. Fun to hangout on the terrace and meet new people. +Free pancakes for breakfast! Negatives -No air conditioning (not a huge surprise for a hostel). -Beds are not very comfortable. -Dirty/Rusty showers -Noisy! Since there is no A/C so it's best to leave windows open but this has it's downside as Le Gîte is located on a main Street with much traffic. I recommend a private room!

Yelp
We stayed here for a week. This is a standard hostel (the term gite is used loosely in Quebec) in a great location. The front desk staff is very friendly. Breakfast is included, which is pancakes and toast and juice yogurt, but there is a fridge for guests so you can easily supplement with more healthy choices if you get tired of pancakes and bread. We had a private room with a double bed and linens were included. I think if you are a 20 year old traveler looking for a hostel this place might be perfect. I'm 33 and not so focused on nightlife and prefer to go to bed at 11pm and have it relatively quiet. A few nights it was very loud and hard to sleep and some of the guests were quite rowdy all through the night. The front desk staff goes home about 11pm. At other hostels I've stayed at there are very firm quiet hours and staff to enforce that, but not here. The rooftop terrace closes at a certain hour, but there were people going up and down all hours of the night. Our room was right by the stairs so it sounded like a herd of elephants some nights, often very late into the night/morning. I also thought while the front desk staff was really friendly, the establishment could have tried a little harder on a few details. There is a bathroom/shower room on the 2nd floor, and half of the blinds are missing, and there is a walk out balcony. The first 2 days I hoped no one was watching me undress from the street, but another morning I went to shower a guy from the hostel and his friends were sitting out on the balcony and smoking while I was trying to get dressed. I from then on used a smaller less nice shower, but an easy fix would be for the place to put in proper blinds. All in all not a bad place and for lively young travelers who want to party, it's perfect. For someone who doesn't fit this mould, there are better places in Montreal to stay for a similar price.
