Where to Stay in Quebec City When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"I describe it as a classic no-frills backpacker hostel: dorms with basic metal bunks (no personal curtains, outlets, or reading lights) and private rooms with shared bathrooms. There’s free Wi‑Fi, a communal kitchen, and common areas, though the facilities are a bit tired — it’s the cheapest place to stay in the neighborhood." - Matthew Kepnes

Rooms are unclean and smell, started getting itchy as soon as I lay down in bed. The stairs to the top bunks aren’t accessible so you have to awkwardly jump on the bottom persons bunk while trying not to wake them up. The hostel is 9pm latest check in but I got an email saying my room was cancelled at 8pm - I still managed to check in at 8:30pm but it was a bit strange. Luckily I only had to stay here from 8pm till 8am so I stuck it out, if I had to stay any longer I’d probably look for a new place!

I had a great time here. I stayed a couple of months and so glad I did! Pierre is incredibly friendly and helpful, the hostel is really well located, and it's a cosy place. Bar across the street can get a little noisy if you're staying on the street side, but didn't bother me cos I listen to music while I sleep. Nice patio and rooftop and all the facilities I needed. Place was clean and secure and I will definitely stay again if I come back to Québec!!

The location is good but that’s the only positive. Don’t plan on leaving your bag if arrive before 4pm. The guy that runs the place won’t care to help you until 4pm. Not a minute sooner. The rooms are dirty and windows don’t have screen so bugs get in. Bathrooms are gross which was no surprise. I left the hostel after two days and felt so relived to go somewhere else.

A quick walk from the Via Rail station, you can't beat this location if you've got bags and don't like walking around with them or to waste money on a taxi. It's also on the 800 local bus route (well street is a block away) that you catch for $3.75 to go to the waterfall. A supermarket is about 100 metres away where you can buy cooked chicken (the 800 bus leaves from next to that too). It's not that long a walk up to the historic Quebec town (inside the walls) or the modern CBD. But much better to do that walk without your luggage on your back since it is uphill. ||I had read a few negative reviews of this place, so I had expected it to be like the soup n episode of Seinfeld, but although Pierre the owner isn't a fake smiler bubbly personality type, I found him to helpful and the first thing he did was give me a map (hardly any hostels do this anymore) and circled everything there was to see in Quebec City, the supermarket and other things. He also told me about the waterfall. Along with some musical festival that was happening I'd never heard of. He was happy to answer questions. ||Granted beds weren't the most comfortable, they were plastic mattresses and pillow (which made a lot of noise). But does this really matter? Not really. The showers were small but had decent water pressure and hot water. The toilets though did not have soap, something a bit concerning when you've got a communal kitchen. You also need to bring your own towel. ||There are a few tables in the kitchen area. There is also a lounge area between rooms 2 and 3 (the dorm rooms) but there is an old lady who obviously lives in that room, meaning it is not really appealing to use for guests to socialize. When asked she replies abruptly that she is not staff. She coughs constantly, has a lot of empty beverage bottles on the floor in front of 'her couch" and on the very rare occasion she leaves to go into the kitchen or something she leaves a note on her blanket that says it is private property. do not move or use it. Most hostels wouldn't tolerate this kind of behaviour of claiming a part of a common area from someone who is actually staying in a dorm or other room, let alone someone just freeloading in a common area. I'm guessing she is the owner's mother or something like that. Unless she was a ghost.

The true is that it was our cheapest option. It was quite last-minute. The guy at the reception was quite helpful. the room was clean, the sharable bathrooms are small but works. Sharable kitchen was clean and without any problems. At the top of hostel is good terrase where you can NOT smoke which is pity. We really like the location of the hostel. It's 8 minutes by walking from train station and at the peripheral of down town. So our resume is that we was satisfied.

I'm so glad I only stayed here for one night. I've been in some pretty grim places but usually it's cheap or the staff are overly friendly. Not this place...||||The owner who greeted me could do with a personality transplant. The beds were the worst I've slept on, with no ladders for top bunks, loud and squeaky. The tiny toilets had no soap or towels. The tiny shower had no ventilation or space to move. The place was old and dirty. ||||I honestly wouldn't mind so much but it was a lot more expensive than the two other hostels I stayed at in Québec and both were MUCH nicer. If this place was half the price or less I would have been happy with what I got.||||On a positive note, I met some nice people here and the location is in the Saint-Roch area which is decent for bars, although not directly in the old part of town. ||||Unless every other hostel in Québec city is booked, I wouldn't suggest spending a night here.

If you're looking for a no-frills, cheap hostel, then this is the place for you. It is conveniently located in the adorable St. Roch neighborhood. A lot of the reviews were bad based on customer service, but I honestly had the best experience with Pierre! He was super friendly and accommodating, and he even gave us tips on the best places to eat and drink in the area. The only true downside to this place is the comfort levels of the cheap bunks, as well as the noise from the bar across the street. But if you keep your expectations low and bring a spare pair of ear plugs, then this is the best bang for your buck hostel you'll get in the heart of Quebec City!

Cosy place to stay for only a couple of nights. We stayed during the long weekend for Labor Day 2022 so rates were high season. Mr. Pierre is very welcoming and informative about all the activities available in the area he gave you a map and explains how to go around the city. Although, some guests make a mess of the place especially the kitchen so there's a lot of cleaning to do before being able to cook and some lady decided to use dinning area to leave all of her belongings. Bathrooms in the 2d floor are very tiny, the fan don't really extract anything from the shower on 1st floor. Table outside is very unstable so you can't really put your cup of coffee without dropping it. Hostel is well located next to a large commercial street with several amenities. We stayed in a tent on the terrace for urban camping it was charming and the owner gave us a lot of blankets to make sure we were not cold. Overall, experience was interesting but the place should have more strict policies about consuming alcohol/ smoking and behavior from the guests cuz ppl smoked in the bathroom too. It's a shame cuz the place has potential to give a nice experience maybe be more selective with kind of guests.
