Augusta Raurica offers an immersive experience into Roman life, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts. Strolling through the ruins, you can explore remnants of ancient temples, baths, and homes, providing a tangible connection to the past. If you're here in August, don't miss the medieval festival that brings the ancient world to life with reenactments, crafts, and entertainment!

Well preserved theater and Roman ruins. We were pleasantly surprised at the extent of the ruins.

An incredible historical site to visit that is not too far away from Basel by bus. If you enjoy Roman history, you would highly appreciate this place. All the outdoor stuff including the underground sewer tunnel are free to visit. A lot of the boards are written in English too.

We the 81 bus from Basel to Augst, from the bus stop it's about a twenty minute walk up a light hill. The roman ruins date back from around 44 BC - the oldest Roman colony on the Rhine. On the site, one can view and get the feeling of the Anchient bakery. The amphitheatre is still used for concerts and musical plays. This is definitely worth the walk and a good day outing for families

I really enjoyed my day at the Augusta historical sights. It rained so there was no tourists anywhere, so I could roam as I liked. It was kinda fun just goofing around. However, I did find a swastika on one of the signs. I left a photo. It was raining so it might need to be washed off. Still had a great time looking at the ruins.

It was a very impressive experience and gave our children a great insight into what life in a Roman city might have looked like. I can highly recommend this place to anyone.

This was a truly beautiful place with lots of ancient Roman ruins. They are very old and not all are intact but for me, that's part of its charm. They are spread apart as it is a former village or town, but it is very much worth the walk.

Beautiful spot to stop by if you’re in the area, the museum is free to enter and showcases what homes in that era would have looked like.

Yelp
As I discovered there are actually more to Roman ruins than just the major draw cards. Well, sort of, because there are a lot of them that are probably not really worth going too far out of your way to visit, however if you happen to be driving past such a place, then it can be a pretty good thing to stop of for a bit and have a look around, as is the case here. This place is just outside of Basel (which is probably why the city is actually located here), and while it isn't one of the major centres, it is still pretty cool. Sort of worth the half-hour or so, and a good excuse to get out of the car and stretch your legs.

Yelp
As I am not well versed in the number of beautifully preserved Roman settlements still in existence what I am about to say is only true because it is what I have experienced thus far, this is one of the most beautifully preserved Roman settlements I have ever experienced. It is expansive so be sure to allocate at least 3 hours and wear your walking shoes.
