The Best Hotels in Prague of 2024

"Augustine was a 2022 winner in T+L’s World’s Best Awards and offers a full five-star experience that is also infused with loads of character. Once a 13th-century monastery, the hotel is directly connected to the Baroque St. Thomas Church and offers tours to guests every week, including a peek into its 13th-century library. It still functions partly as a monastery today, and you may see the few monks who live here walking the grounds. There are 101 rooms and suites, most of which were formed from merging two to three former monk’s quarters, and many feature original doors with ornamental ironwork. Classic rooms start at 344 square feet and suites easily double that. No matter which you choose, rooms have contemporary Czech Cubism furnishings that were popular in Prague during the 1920s and ‘30s alongside heavy linens and velvets in papal-inspired purple, red, and orange hues, and marble mosaic bathrooms with heated floors. On-site amenities include a spa, fine dining restaurant, a cocktail bar in the monastery's barrel-vaulted hall, and a brewery serving beer from a secret recipe that originated from the Augustinian monks." - Travel + Leisure Editors

10 Best Hotels in Prague

"Prague is bulging with history walks past baroque this and alchemical that, but here’s a hotel with its own guided tour. With the Augustine formed from seven terra-cotta-roofed buildings of the (still active) St. Thomas’s monastery, dating back to the 13th century, the walk takes you from the recently woven tapestry depicting the celestial zodiac above reception through meditative herb gardens, past beautiful stained-glass windows and along cloisters and into the church itself. It’s a baroque masterpiece, gleaming white and gold, with two Rubens paintings above the altar and frescoes in the dome high above; in one casket recline the skeletal remains of a saint wearing a metal mask. And then, all of a sudden, a door opens into the monks’ refectory and there’s a huge portrait of Debbie Harry looking down above a cocktail bar. Religious and pop iconography side by side. Do the four remaining brothers here chant ‘Heart of Glass’ in an idle moment? I didn’t dare ask. The Blondie moment came from designer Olga Polizzi, who added color and Cubist pizzazz when the Augustine opened in 2009. Tucked away behind walls near the river in the Mala Strana district, this exists in a world of its own. There’s a pretty courtyard garden with roses entwined around arches, a vaulted basement pub serving St. Thomas’s beer—once brewed by the monks—and a Turkish hammam. The restaurant, which spills out into the main sundial garden, is newly headed up by Jan Horak (formerly of Copenhagen’s Jordnaer and CottoCrudo across the river), who has tattoos of mushrooms and turnips on his arms and creates seafood- and vegetable-forward menus. Ask to see the Tower Suite, a former observatory with a spiral staircase up two floors to glorious views; most of the other rooms were made from two or three monks’ cells, furnished with 1920s illustrations and artworks, the occasional angular piece of furniture, marble bathrooms the color of mottled parchment, and a deep sense of calm. Lying in my bed after a night at the Ungelt Jazz Club, I fell asleep to the ASMR sound of trams trundling far below. A hotel that feels like a condensed version of Prague." - Rick Jordan

7 European Countries That Don't Use the Euro

"Located in Central Europe, the Czech Republic has the highest concentration of castles in the continent, some dating back to the 1300s, making it a paradise for architecture and history enthusiasts. Plus, Prague, the Czech capital, is home to the world’s largest castle complex."

"Gothic and Renaissance architecture meets modern design at Augustine, where 13th-century details like vaulted ceilings and 19th-century frescoes share space with Czech Cubist furniture and pottery. The seven buildings that make up the property—parts of which date back to 1284—formed some of the St. Thomas Church and Monastery, so you may even bed down in a room where Augustinian monks once slept (in fact, monks still have quarters here). The 101 rooms are a chic combination of old world charm and modern luxury, with generously sized marble bathrooms with heated floors and rain showers; suites have magnificent views of Prague Castle or an interior garden. The Refectory bar serves wickedly good “Archangel” cocktails, named for the subjects of the room’s Baroque frescoes, as well as St. Thomas Beer, brewed from the monk’s original 1352 recipe, but don’t let the spirits get to your head. There’salso a highly regarded fine-dining restaurant as well as a spa."

Definitely a rare gem in the Luxury Collection portfolio. A splendid building nestled in the heart of Prague. Despite my short and intense two days in the golden city I tried to enjoy as much as I could the hotel facilities: enjoyed the bar the evening of my arrival. The cocktail menu looked promising, but I opted for my favourite bubbly. At the time of my visit the gym was going under a renovation, but a small room close to the lobby was conveniently reserved for that purpose.||As a city hotel the breakfast was not “wow” in term of food display (but it’s ok, we need to avoid food waste!) but excellent in terms of quality. While the bar is warm and cozy the breakfast room is a bit too “cold” in terms of design, however good as spot for a quick business lunch. ||Through my Bonvoy Titanium status I’ve been assigned to a very nice junior suite. Super comfy bed and walk in closet. A minus point was the spacious bathroom lacking of a walk in shower (for me a must). ||Super efficient and friendly staff will make this my next choice when (I hope soon) in Prague again.

We greatly enjoyed our stay. This is my first time staying in a hotel of this caliber, admittedly. We stayed here as part of a pre-river cruise extension. As advertise, the property is a former monastery which has been tastefully converted into a luxury hotel. The location is excellent to explore Prague. It is in the little quarter, perfectly between old quarter and castle district. The hotel is beautiful, eloquently designed, and very comfortable. We had a third floor room on the outer section of the hotel, facing the street and had zero issues with noise. The rooms were excellent, including the bed, bathrooms, and the included toiletries. We enjoyed lovely glass of wine every evening when returning from our days exploration. There are numerous restaurants and shops in the near area, and the street leading from the little quarter to the Charles bridge is a particularly excellent place to get some souvenirs. Regarding the rooms, I do wish the water got hotter, both for showers and bathtub purposes. Service was excellent, the staff were respectful and very attentive. They did an excellent job meeting our accommodations. I’ll review the restaurant and bar separate separately, but these also were quite lovely. We took advantage of the included breakfast, which was exceptional.

Google
Great location for a short walk into the old town or up to the castle, but quiet enough that you feel secluded. The staff from Dan helping us plan before arrival through to pretty much everyone we interacted with at the hotel were amazing. So friendly, welcoming, and always available to help ensure we had the best stay. The food at Augustine was fabulous as was the cocktail service at the refectory bar. Overall, I have only positive things to say. Will be back one day!

My partner and I stayed at the Augustin, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Prague from February 2nd to February 5th, 2025. We had a great experience at this hotel. As a former Marriott associate, I certainly expected good service from them, to be honest, I found them incredibly friendly and attentive, especially the two ladies at the front desk (Ms. Veronica and Ms. Katerina) who really went the extra mile for us. These two ladies are the true epitome of hospitality. My room was clean, spacious, and the amenities were well-maintained. The hotel's location is right in the heart of Prague, which made it easy for us to visit both Charles Bridge and Prague Castle. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay or a leisurely getaway. We enjoyed Prague very much, and we would definitely come back to the Augustin, a Luxury Collection Hotel.

Our family stayed at the Augustine for four nights. What an amazing property! The historic monetary has been thoughtfully adapted to a luxury Autograph hotel. We loved the breakfast every day, the concierge was so helpful in making tour and dinner reservations and we loved our suite that we stayed in. Couldn’t have been happier with the hotel or the location. Highly recommend!

Truly phenomenal experience. My wife and I stayed here for two nights and the hotel was well worth it. The staff is extraordinarily attentive and even loaned me a suit jacket for impromptu opera tickets. The rooms are beautifully designed and extremely comfortable, with excellent views of Prague Castle. The hotel’s location is secluded adding to the relaxing atmosphere, yet is centrally located and only a quick walk from many of the city’s most famous locations. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a unique luxury experience in Prague!

Google
Visiting the Christmas markets but wanting to be a bit away from the rush of people over the holidays, we booked into The Augustine. What a treat! A bit off the beaten track but quite close to the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle, the hotel was wonderful. The team at the front desk and the concierge desk were always able to answer questions and give recommendations. And the holiday treats table (cookies, hot wine, chocolate) that they put out over the weekend was amazing. Best of all, after a day of visiting the sites and being a part of the crowds, the room was quiet and more than comfortable. Highly recommended!

Yelp
During our stay in Prague we wanted a place in the heart of the city that we could come back to and relax each night! This hotel exceeded both expectations during our three night stay! When we arrived we were greeted with champagne as we checked in! Our room was not ready as we came super early in the morning: the hotel offered us a beautiful temporary room without even asking! The temporary room was gorgeous and a perfect place to relax and freshen up before going out! When we received our other room it was equally gorgeous and relaxing. Each room is unique at this hotel. Our room faced a beautiful church and you can see the castle in the background. The room was very big with a huge bathroom with heated floors, soaking tub and shower. Plus the room offered a seating area and a good size bedroom. The bed was so comfy! Each night they had turndown service. The hotel is truly beautiful as use to be a monastery. The architecture is amazing and I appreciated that they kept the old touches! The hotel offers a relaxing sauna for free. There is also a small gym. The restaurant also features a couple of restaurants including a brewery. Location is amazing. Hotel is just below the castle. And close to the famous bridge. If you are seeking a luxury hotel then look no further! Location, Service and quality is amazing here.

Yelp
The history! The beauty and uniqueness! The service! The peacefulness and luxury! What an experience. Felt like we were part of something quite special. Loved the ancient brewery where monks have been making their beer for 800-ish years. Loved that 7 monks live there (the website says 4, but they just had 3 more join!) Loved the private tour. Loved seeing the 3-story Christmas tower room (although totally not practical, as going down spiral stairs to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night wouldn't be a good move for me), it was gorgeous with a jaw-dropping 360 degree view. Loved the original painted ceiling from the 1500s in the Refactory bar. Loved the heated floors in the bathroom! Breakfast was great. I wouldn't change a thing. We had already experienced staying in Old Town on a prior trip and it was lovely to be on the other side, just beneath the castle this time. Walking into Old Town via the Charles Bridge all those times was amazing, as in different lighting and circumstances, the bridge never feels or looks quite the same. Amazing.

Yelp
After our river cruise, we extended our stay in Prague and chose to stay at The Augustine, a charming historical hotel that was once an Abbey. Remarkably, monks still reside on the property. Our room faced the peaceful interior courtyard and was both spacious and quiet, offering luxurious comforts like a king-sized bed, bathtub, sitting area, and a work desk. The staff at The Augustine was incredibly gracious and attentive. We frequently relied on the concierge for dinner reservations, salon bookings, and securing train tickets. The daily service was impeccable, and the restaurant staff was equally outstanding. The property features three dining options, including a bar. The Refectory serves drinks and light bites, and I had one of the best Caesar salads I've ever tasted there. The Augustine Restaurant offers fantastic meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while the Saint Thomas Brewery Bar, located in a grotto, provides a memorable experience with traditional Czech cuisine. Centrally located, The Augustine was perfect for exploring Prague's sights, and we discovered many charming places just a short walk from the hotel. A fun and unexpected highlight of our stay was meeting Hannah Waddingham, who was staying at the hotel with her family. It was such a pleasure to chat with her!

Yelp
Our travel agent booked us at the Augustine on a recent trip to Prague and it was fabulous! Somehow we got upgraded to a 3-chamber suite (sweet!). The bar is somewhat small, but the St Thomas beer was cold and refreshing, and beer is really not even my thing! My wife and I enjoyed some simple, but tasty sandwiches the first night and a very tasty breakfast each morning. Esther at the check-in counter and Dagmar at the restaurant provided friendly and excellent service. Shout out to them! More broadly, if coffee, baked treats and beer bring you joy, you will love Prague! What a beautiful city with a lot of friendly folks!

Yelp
Located just steps from Charles Bridge in the heart of Prague is this beautiful and truly luxury accommodation. From the impressive check-in lobby and roaring fireplace to the meticulously appointed rooms, this is a superior Marriott property. The bathroom even has heated floors!

Yelp
This was a wonderful find. Easily walkable to all of Prague. The staff is wonderful. We got here the day after the winter storm started. Something like the earliest snow in 14 years and the most acclimation for this month in 6 years. Nearby towns experiencing power outages. So I texted the hotel. They reassured me everything was fine and offered to arrange a driver to pick us up. Which was $80. But it was reassuring. Had it not been snowing we were planning to pull our bags. That would have been miserable in this weather at that time. The hotel is beautifully and tastefully decorated. It is a renovated monastery and it stays true to its roots. There are a few monks that still live on site. They have a separate wing. The monks do share their beer recipe with the hotel. It has been the same recipe since the 1500's. So this is the only place you can get it. The beds are firm and the pillows are orthopedic, small and large. We have slept very well. You get 3 services a day. Housekeeping, turn down, and restock of the mini fridge and your waters. We have only ate at the hotel bar for breakfast, but it has been very good. It's included in our stay, so I can't speak to the price. We would definitely come back.

Yelp
Hotel itself is a renovated monastery and you feel it in the ambiance. The hotel is directly connected to Baroque St. Thomas Church and offers special tours. The breakfast menu wasn't the usual rich european breakfast you expect. They market à la carte menu but it is mostly heavy in pastry and sugar. House keeping was terrible other than 1st day out of the 5 days we stayed. It would be 7pm in the evening and we still won't get our room cleaned. In general, yes staff spoke English but young staff avoids eye contact, they walk pass you without saying "Hello". However, Pavel at the door was wonderful. He would always greet every single guest. In the mornings, he would ask about our plans then when we get back in the afternoon he would remember what we told him and ask about our excursions. He deserves 10 stars!!!

Yelp
The pros: The hotel is beautiful and centrally located. Staff at the restaurant is extremely attentive and friendly. The concierge set us up with an amazing private tour of Prague that got us oriented on the lay of the land. Opportunities for improvement: 1) We were excited to visit the St. Thomas Brewery Bar. It was closed the entire time we were here which was disappointing. 2) The Refectory bar was closed out first night for a private event, and then the next day while it was open, nobody was there to help anyone, and we ended up leaving. 3) The front desk staff is not very helpful compared to other hotels at the price point. While we thought the hotel was beautiful we would consider other places in Prague at this price point next time.

Yelp
What a fabulous place, with beautiful gardens in the middle of everything , also free spa

Uriah H.

Yelp
Excellent hotel. Wonderful conversion of an old Augustine monastery. About four monks continue to reside and worship in a portion of the building complex. Professional and courteous staff. Concierge was extremely helpful, Rooms were well decorated, spacious, and immaculate. Exceptional restaurant on site with extraordinary breakfasts. Overall a pleasant and positive experience.

Yelp
We stayed in this hotel during our latest visit to Prague and couldn't have been happier. The staff was extremely good and attentive. The rooms were just beyond Instagram worthy! The bedroom was comfortable (especially the bed) and the bathroom was just amazing. I wish I could live full time in a room that spectacular.
google avatar

Yelp
I only stayed here for one night but it was great! Service is outstanding and really attentive. It is also super pricey so there's that. Located right near the Prague castle and Charles Bridge...convenient location. I walked from here to the astronomical clock and got there within 15 min or less. It is also located right off the metro or the 22 train. Their suite is really spacious with a huge bathroom!!!! It came with a California king bed...HUGE. Food at the restaurant is fantastic too- get the beef tartare but remember to share or else it's too much. Their specialty drinks were tasty too! I used spg points to stay here otherwise it would have been a hefty price.

Yelp
Outstanding service and attention to detail. Made my birthday weekend in Prague truly special. We had the executive room, and we're traveling with a 2 year old. The provisions they made for the toddler left us speechless - diaper pail, toddler tub, crib, beautiful bedding for kids, and a potty seat. Incredible! Our room was absolutely gorgeous with a foyer, massive bathroom with a bidet, tub and separate shower, and his/her sinks. They gifted us a bottle of prosecco and a phenomenal chocolate mousse cake on my birthday. The staff goes out of their way every minute of the day to make the guests' stay special. Wow! The concierge service is excellent, especially food recommendations by Jan. The front desk/entrance staff is absolutely delightful, and interacting with them is a pleasure. The Breakfast spread was excellent, with a stunningly beautiful centerpiece of a large honeycomb in the cold buffet; the wait staff at the restaurant was just amazing. Super attentive and did everything with a delightful excitement. The hot foods like pancakes, French toasts, eggs were just OK. French toast was the best of the offering. The quality of coffee and espresso drinks at breakfast is a bit disappointing. Jan and Maria are the most incredible servers/hosts in the business. They have to be called out for remarkable service. The hotel itself is GORGEOUS, built on a collection of monastery buildings, and preserving the original feel. It's hard to find a more beautiful hotel anywhere. You can even schedule a tour of the adjoining monastery in advance for a small donation (about €10/person) to the monastery where the monks still reside. The tour has to be booked a couple days in advance though, and is subject to the monks' availability. Everybody speaks perfect English, and makes you feel comfortable in your interactions when you don't speak the local language. I will visit the Augustine again and again. Thank you! Some nits: even though we had an upgraded executive room, there was no coffee/espresso machine in the room. That is only available in the suite level rooms. Seems strange co spidering you can buy a Nespresso machine for a few €s. A lock on the inside of the bathroom would be nice, especially if you're staying with friends or a pesky 2 year old :) But I do understand it can become a liability for the hotel if a child locks themselves inside.

Yelp
If you're traveling to Prague and looking for the perfect hotel - this is it!! I am extremely picky when it comes to hotels and this one met (and exceeded) my high expectations! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were very clean, comfy beds, amazing restaurant, perfect location! This place has it all!! If we are lucky enough to come back to Prague, we will, without question, stay at the Augustine again!!

Yelp
This was our third stay in this hotel. It's very quite, comfortable and stylish. Ask for a room on the forth floor. The staff is very attentive and polite. We had a great time.

Yelp
Augustine is truly a luxury hotel in every sense of the word. The entire stay was amazing. The hotel is gorgeous and the food was heaven. It's truly a gorgeous hotel and absolutely worth staying at while in Prague!

Yelp
A beautiful hotel! Rooms are very nice. The hotel is extremely clean. Beautiful landscape.

Yelp
Very elegant-designed and high quality hotel near the Prague Castle. In an old monastery is hidden now a luxurious 5-star superior first class hotel. Very nicely decorated rooms, great marble bathrooms, all very comfortable and stylish. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast is fantastic, it selects some of the extensive buffet and a portion of the menu. A must is a visit to Tom's Bar or at The Brewery in the basement vault.
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
Great bar and very attentive and knowledgeable bartenders make this a welcome respite. You don't need to be a hotel guest, and the booze selection plus cocktail options are excellent

Heidi B.

Yelp
I cannot say enough about this hotel and their staff. It is absolutely beautiful and the staff go above and beyond for you. This hotel is an old monastery and still has the charm but is updated and super clean. My husband arrived sick from Paris with our family and the staff went above and beyond by securing a car to drive him to the hospital and asked me if there was anything they could assist us. Traveling with 2 small children they assisted us with a private tour of the castle and Charles Bridge and the zoo. They took care of my husband while he slept and extended our stay he when they were fully committed. This staff is lovely and their restaurant was delicious. We will definitely be returning. We were there the end of October 2016.

Barbara N.

Yelp
This is a refined, comfortable hotel. Staff are knowledgable and friendly. Good location. Good restaurant. Historic monastery building.

Yelp
I made an online reservation. They were very prompt in confirmation. The food was EXTRAORDINARY, the waiter was perfect. I strongly advise this Restaurant.

Yelp
Our plane was delayed so we had a very late check in. When I asked for two beds at check- in (our booking indicated one king or two doubles but when they sent me an email asking how they could help I requested two beds before arrival), the night desk person indicated there were no rooms available with two beds and he indicated he would pass on a note to the manager. When we got to the room it also did not have a very good view, we were on the second floor surrounded by other buildings but you could see the Prague Castle out of the corner, I paid for a premium room with a view so I was a bit disappointed but I am giving the highest marks because outside of the view the room was very very nice. We never heard from the Manager so we let it pass. I would say outside of the night time desk person not being very helpful everyone else there was beyond nice, the breakfast was one of the best we have ever had and it was included in our room and the location was terrific. I hurt my achilles during one of our tours and they brought ice to our room both nights 5 minutes after we requested it. We also had drinks at the bar and dinner at the restaurant (which I gave a 5 in another review) and both were exceptional. I would definitely return again I would just triple check my room prior to arriving.
