This Charming European City Is Known for 'The Sound of Music' and Mozart — How to Visit

"Austria's largest beer hall and a lively local institution: Reus says, "It's an entirely different world inside, often bustling with people enjoying liter mugs of beer — even on quiet weekdays." The on-site food court encourages groups to sample small portions of various local foods to share, making it a social, communal dining experience." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. "As Austria ’s beer capital, Salzburg offers a half-dozen solid breweries. For those who prefer their suds served straight from the barrel in massive steins, however, there’s only the AugustinerBräu at Mülin Monastery, which has been brewing beer since 1621 using a carefully guarded recipe. Since the Augustiner isn’t near a major tourist attraction, it’s relatively calm, allowing locals and travelers to mingle peacefully. Enjoy a drink in the cozy Bräustübl (the monastery’s pub) or the quaint beer garden. The beer selection is limited but you can be sure whatever you order will be super fresh. If you want something to soak up your suds, food is available at the Schmankerlgang, an arcade of stalls selling just-baked breads, pretzels, radishes, fish, and, of course, sausages."

One of the most traditional beer gardens in Austria and one of the best beers I’ve tasted. A variety of options for quick bites that goes well along beer. It is so great that you can rinse your mug with cold water before being served so the mug is cooled. The place was full despite the garden is huge. It was even hard to find a single available seat. A definite must-visit biergarten!

Google
We’d highly recommend this enormous, beautiful, classic beer garden to anyone visiting Salzburg. The beer and food are delicious. Here are a few friendly tips: -It’s cash only. There is a bank/ATM next door to the beer garden if you need to withdraw. -For beer, you grab a mug from the shelf (two size choices), and pay for that size at the register. You then bring your mug to the team member that pours and serves your beer. -For food, there are about a dozen “food kiosks” that you can pay at individually. Across all the delicious selections, we loved the bbq ribs with baked potato and sour cream, sausages, apple strudel, and large pretzels. -There is indoor and outdoor seating in the spring. Outdoors filled up fast, but we loved sitting inside. It’s a beautiful interior. -We arrived about 10 minutes before they opened, and there was already a long line. The two of us were still easily able to find a table inside.

Google
It's a massive factory like place. It's an experience. Cash only German only Not particularly warm service and you are expected to know what to do. I went there just as it opened so it wasn't too crowded but , my goodness it must be awful when full. Beer is very pure but nothing special. No additives which is nice. Food is ok but it is all you really need to accompany the bland beer. I won't be going back.

- Ambiance 5/5 - Food 4/5 - Price €15-20 Important: Need cash to buy anything. Great place to grab drinks and some food. If you’re used to American ribs then I wouldn’t recommend them, but they were alright. The chicken wings were my favorite. Overall great place.

Google
Awesome spot where you can tell a ton of locals go to. Very typical beer hall experience and tons of fun. 1L of beer was 8€, it's cash only! The food was reasonably priced too but don't expect great presentation, it's meant to be fast and easy going! It was quite delicious however.

Augustiner Bräu Mülln is an absolute must-visit, when in Salzburg. Even if you’re not a beer lover, the vibe of this place will win you over. It’s not a regular restaurant, but a traditional beer hall that offers a lively, authentic experience. The venue is cash-only, so if have cards you’ll need to make a quick trip to the ATM just outside the main gate. Beer: The beer is served in ceramic mugs, a unique and classic touch. You can choose from two sizes, with the larger mug priced at €7. It’s a cool experience to drink from a ceramic mug instead of the usual glass. Venue: The place is divided into several halls, each offering a different vibe. You can take a check out all the halls and choose the one that best suits your mood, whether you’re looking for a relaxed setting with couples or a more vibrant crowd. In the summer months, the outdoor garden is also open, providing a lovely option for enjoying your drink al fresco. Food: You will find everything from crispy snacks to schnitzels. However, the focus here is definitely on the beer, not the food. While the food is decent, it’s the beer experience that takes center stage. The brand also operates a restaurant nearby, though it was closed during our visit. Overall, Augustiner Bräu Mülln is a quintessential part of Salzburg’s beer culture. Whether you’re a beer enthusiast or just looking to soak up the local atmosphere, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Google
What you do is you buy food from the stands and you go get your beer separately. For the beer: pay for your mug, grab the mug from the shelves, rinse the mug in the cold water fountains to chill the mug, then hand it to the person (with your receipt) who will fill it. Just follow the people in front of you. For vegetarians: Limited options and it won’t be your best Salzburg meal. Think picnic snacks. Go for the atmosphere and good beer. If it is crowded, it is ok to look for empty seats at a table and ask if anyone is sitting there. Many stands, and the beer, are cash only. Beer garden is dog friendly.

Google
Beautiful beer garden from an historic brewery. It’s cash only but not to worry there’s a HYPO Salzburg right next door (A.T.M.) Two different Uber drivers told me it was the best beer garden / beer in Salzburg and they were correct.

Yelp
This was such a highlight in our Austria trip! A must visit in Salzburg!! Make sure you bring CASH and a hungry belly! You pay for the size and you simply get beer. No choices other than large or small. I was silly enough to think a small 0.5L would be enough, so you may as well get straight to the full 1L. Food options in the halls are APLENTY. My biggest regret in Austria is not allocating my stomach space to take in all the options at Augustiner. Sitting outside is soo lovely in the summertime shade but the reserved tables were tricky (we sat at one 2h before the party had reserved it and they came 1.5h early), so we had to relocate. Be prepared to make some beer loving friends! Side note: hours were inaccurate online so we ended up waiting on the steps but it got so hot that we got some supermarket beers to drink by the river beforehand.
google avatar

Annette R.

Yelp
This is the largest biergarten in Austria. The beer has been brewed for over 400 years by monks (since 1621) and is absolutely delicious. Note: it is stronger! Come prepared to make new friends as you join any available space at random tables. Pay for your stein, pick up your stein, and your stein will be filled for you. There is a 'food court' available with a wide variety of meats, salads, breads, and pastries. You are allowed to bring your own food into the garden but not your own drinks. Allow 3-4 hours for this adventure. Making friends, repeated 'prosts' and enjoying the atmosphere is not something you will want to rush. Bring cash - credit cards are not accepted. @sturdygirlstyle #sturdygirlstyle

Yelp
As simple and perfect as it gets; grab a clean mug from the giant shelves, pony up (cash only) for your libation and have it filled fresh from wooden barrels; a glorious golden marzen. Nectar. Sit in one of the several halls or grab a seat in the huge, 1400-seat biergarten, nestled beneath ancient chestnut trees. We were there on a weeknight and there was not an empty seat! An absolute must for beer lovers visiting Salzburg.

Yelp
A lovely restaurant with super cozy vibes across several unique spaces inside, and plenty of outdoor seating amidst the hubbub of the Mülln neighborhood. I went full predictable and had the chicken schnitzel with amazing potato salad. Because it is about 30C every day with 600% humidity, I got three drinks - a delightful blackcurrant juice which I cut with sparkling water, and because I was working just a 0,5L beer (because how could I not?!). I love that they have small beers!

Yelp
I'm going to start off by saying if you don't like beer this isn't the spot. I'm not a beer fan and it is very much a traditional beer hall. You get a mug and clean it and fill up your beer there's only 2 sizes. The people aren't like the nicest if you're a tourist and don't know what to do. The food is upstairs and it's various food stalls mostly just meat and fries. The staff at those was nicer. My food was decent, it wasn't anything to write home about. Definitely not my first choice but not the worst !
google avatar

Pierre H.

Yelp
Great beer hall! Grab a pinte, get your beer and find a table. Note that the tables are really designed more for large groups than couples. But just sit with other groups. Then go grab food at one of the food booths.
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
This beer hall is really great! It's huge inside and has a beautiful outdoor beer garden area for nice weather. It's a serve yourself kind of set up where you pay and pick up your own mug and then have them fill it from actual barrels! I didn't try the food, but there was a whole hall with different food options to choose!
google avatar

Janice S.

Yelp
Great beer, fantastic location and atmosphere and everything we'd come to expect BUT...one star off for having to go to the candy shop to purchase mustard. That was just...a weird experience.

Armen Y.

Yelp
It has great environment. It does have good food and beer. Prices are very reasonable.

Yelp
This place was amazing. There was indoor and outdoor self seating. It was massive. The food was amazing. There were several different food kiosks, where you could order, grilled fish, roasted chickens, sausages, schweinhaxe, cold cuts, schnitzel, burgers, any side you could imagine. The dessert choices were just a plentiful. The beer and drinks were just as varied and fun. You simply pay for the size if stein that you prefer, rinse it in cold water to cool it down and they fill it with your choice. Bring cash. We went to several beer gardens (even the Hofbrau Haus in Munich), but this was our favorite. We went there twice.
google avatar

GT W.

Yelp
One of the best places to drink beer on earth! This is the real Augustiner Bräu - Kloster Mülln (unrelated to Augustiner-Bräu in Munich, which is not as impressive). There are usually only one or two different beers on wooden cask and you pay for a token and then go through a turnstyle to fill a clean stein you grab from a shelf opposite the filling area. For food, there are several food vendor stalls that serve up traditional Austrian food. There's pork knuckle, sausages, etc. Everything we had was excellent. The ambiance is spectacular too. The beer hall is a massive room with stained glass, beautiful columns, and dark wooden decor. It feels like a temple unto beer. In short, you cannot miss this when visiting Salzburg.
google avatar

Yelp
This place rocked and well worth the stop if you are in the the lower Bavarian/Berchtesgaden area, just across the Austrian border. Huge historic beer hall in a superb brewery. Plus, a unique way to get your beer.... Grab a mug from the wall.... pay the ticket person... then they fill your mug directly from the barrel fresh out of the brewery!!! Impossible to get any fresher than this!! And it is EXCELLENT!! There are food 'vendor' areas along one hallway where you can get a selection of meats, sausages, cheeses, and snacks. They are all very good and reasonably priced. They have large outdoor beer garden on the lower level. Parking is paid in a private lot on the property but not too expensive. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Blake Q.

Yelp
Awesome traditional beer house! The beer is great and they have a good variety of food shops in the hallway so you can find something you like. Awesome vibe and great place to drink

Bryant D.

Yelp
When in Salzburg, Austria, bring friends and family for good beer and food. There are two sizes of beer stein to choose from. Pay at the register. Take your receipt to the beermeister to get topped off. Walk into the hall and have a seat. Hungry, take a walk over to the cafeteria hall and choose from several vendors that have meals, bread, salads, and desert prepared for very reasonable prices.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped here when I first arrived in Tromso and what an excellent choice. The beer was good (however I recommended they provide a few Scandinavian options on tap) . But best was the halibut -- perfectly prepared with the most tender small potatoes. I wish I were in town for a longer period to have the opportunity to enjoy Augustiner Brau again.

Crystal R.

Yelp
Super fun atmosphere. Reasonable prices. It's like going to a food court. Different stands to choose from We did get ripped off when paying. Gave 50 euros but the girl only gave change for 20. She wouldn't listen . Basically paid 35 euros for 15 euros worth of food.

Yelp
What can be said about the Augustiner Bräu in Salzburg that hasn't already been written. This is Austria's largest beer hall and possibly outside in warmer weather is Austria's largest beer garden. It is a must visit in Salzburg and is indeed within walking distance from the Old Town and the Mirabell Palace areas. Now despite the fact that Austria is a huge beer drinking country as well as huge wine drinking land, beer halls are not part of our culture as they are in southern Germany except during Oktoberfest celebrations. I say this because this is not a place I would ever go to often - even if I lived in Salzburg. But the beer here is good - very good - and the food offerings are varied and at an extremely fair price. I recently enjoyed eating the classic Bosna (Salzburg's famous Wurst) as well as a high quality Chili-Leberkäs ... and for good measure a portion of Bierradi with spicy Austrian Kren. Everything went fine with my beer and for me the legendary Augustiner Bräu served its purpose well.
google avatar

Luis A.

Yelp
A place that doesn't need a review for more notoriety, if you are in Salzburg you will undoubtedly visit based on your own research. One beer on tap, no more is needed. They bring it in large wooden barrels, hand tap them and away we go. Several snack/food stalls where you can get traditional, delicious, Austrian food. Do not be intimidated, as most workers can assist you in English. Enjoy a seat outside in the beer garden or inside one of the several drinking halls, where locals are sitting at their stammtisch (their regular table), enjoying a beer and good company. This place alone is worth the trip to Salzburg. Enjoy your time and tell your friends, one of the best beer gardens on earth.
google avatar

Colleen R.

Yelp
Augustiner is pretty great. You really can't beat this beer garden in Salzburg. It's beautiful, the beer is plentiful and cheap, it has a great community atmosphere, and is super fun. Everyone goes to Augustiner - locals and visitors. When in Salzburg, you must go. Sit outside under the trees when the weather is good and sit inside in when it's not. The beer hall itself is massive. Just huge. I think there are six different large rooms, each seating hundreds of people. All having fun. In addition to the great beer, food is plentiful with multiple "shops" inside and outside to purchase sausages, pretzels, salads, sandwiches, roasted meats and desserts. We didn't eat, but man did the apple strudel look good.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Well first, Augustiner beer is fantastic, and this beer hall/garden in Salzburg is one of my faves outside of Germany. It's got the typical beer garden food (pretzels, pork knuckle, fish, etc.) and the setting is just picturesque. Make sure to take a look inside when they change the kegs. It's pretty cool to see the old wooden barrels being rolled in and out. The place is big but make sure you meet some new people. That's the great thing about beer halls/gardens is they're fantastic places to meet people from all over the world! It's within walking distance from old town, too. I've been there during the summer when it's stifling hot as well as late fall/winter and whether you're inside or outside you will have a good time!

Yelp
What a place! So great. The beer is excellent and pretty good deal at 3.20€ for 0.5L. I love the open style of eating. We perused through the food stalls and settled for ham, sauerkraut and potatoes. Absolutely delicious! Everything looked great so we look forward to coming back here in the future!

Daniel Y.

Yelp
Make sure you make reservations. Cozy warm place. All food and drinks are wonderful. Seating are casual.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Really fun beer hall!! Good food, good beer!! They have a very wide selection of food from different stands.
google avatar

Marit D.

Yelp
Such a fun authentic beer garden! Food from the food court surrounding the garden provided plenty of options for every palate. And of course the beer in the steins which each customer washed, then handed to the beer guy tasted delish!
google avatar

Jamey F.

Yelp
This place is NOT to be missed in Salzburg! A very lively and friendly place, and the beer is great. Tip the beer pourer, and he gives you more with less foam. We couldn't find a table initially on a busy Thursday evening, but a couple locals invited us over and we chatted with them. My husband Dean went to do food recon, and came back with some terrific meats, and later we had dessert. There is no table service, but the atmosphere is so casual and relaxing, and very inviting. The beer was very drinkable, and we just had to go back for a second liter (yes, liter).

p f.

Yelp
The best beer so far ! Of course, they have been doing this for like 1000 years now. The beer is something when you close your eyes and dream about the best beer, that's exactly it.
google avatar

Steph G.

Yelp
Pretty sweet place! I've heard about this cool Biergarten from so many people and I'm glad we got to check it out on our quick day trip from Munich. I would suggest getting there early because the place fills up! They don't open until 3pm, but you want to make sure you get a seat outside under the cool trees. They have tons of seating inside, but part of the experience is to be outside drinking with some pretty comical Austrians (and a ton of American tourists!). It's first come, first serve for seating. The process is cool because you walk to a wall of steins in different sizes and pick your own, wash it, walk downstairs and outside and pay for the beer. Only bad thing is that the beer is not my favorite. I'm a total PNW beer snob, German and Austrian beer is just not my thing. But I got one for the experience. We were lucky and snagged a spot in the shade and were pretty hungry. I wish I had gone upstairs and back inside for more food options! But outside they have 2 little kiosks of food. Lots of potatoes and fried fish! It was tasty and make sure to get the baked potato with the sour cream/chive mix and their spicy and sweet curry sauce! YUM!
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic Austrian food court and brewery with enormous dining halls and an outdoor seating area. Located in an old monastery, there are religious icons and statues all over, but the atmosphere is lively and jovial. It's like a stadium concessions stand meets a medieval food court. There are three indoor halls where you can sit at a large community table. One of the halls was reserved for folk dancing, which was delightful to see. There are several vendors from which to choose, selling everything from ribs to coleslaw to fried fish. I sampled from three different spots: salted pretzel (€1.80), shaved radish (€1.60), and sausage (€2.80). The food is served on paper trays with biodegradable finger forks, so nothing fancy. The beer process is a riot. At the end of the hall is the dispensary. You grab a mug size that suits you (medium or large), rinse it out in a fountain, pay at the register, then hand it to an employee who fills it with an Austrian beer. It cost €3.10 for my mug and was delicious. This is a highly rated destination for tourists on TripAdvisor and I'm glad I went. You won't find another spot like this near the historic old town. It was crowded on a Saturday night, but still offered quick service. It's family friendly with a playground out back, but mostly caters to adults and groups of friends.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
Great beer, great price, great atmosphere! Visiting for the day from Italy and am so glad we found this spot! Every type of food for everyone with all the different vendors! The people were all amazingly friendly and made you feel welcomed! Will definitely be coming back here!!!
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
I could not believe how gigantic this place was! We entered through the back door and weren't sure we were in the right place at first- since the building was an old monastery, there are still a few religious pieces and statues inside some of the halls. But then.. we smelled delicious food and followed our noses to the huge food hall and beer garden. The food here was amazing!! And so cheap!! I had the best ever sauerkraut & cheese/potato dumpling plate, half a small roast chicken, bbq rib, tried some fish and then wished I had room for more dumplings. Talk about having a food baby..! We found seats in the massive beer garden (quadruple the size of the one in Viktulienmarkt in Munich!) and made friends with a couple guys from Germany who stopped here on their way home from work. When we left, we realized there is a big parking lot and front entrance. This was a unique and fun experience, I would definitely check this place out! Try the Augustiner beer!
google avatar

Ada C.

Yelp
Imagine an Austrian food court colliding with a giant beer hall and garden and this is what you will get. Get something to eat from the array of fast food options (fries were a particular standout alongside the wurst) then get a stein of beer (go on, get the massive one litre mug) and sit on their beer garden with several other hundred people. It's amazing! There are people from all walks of life which made this particularly a great people watching spot. Elderly couples, young families, tourists. It's fun!
google avatar

Elisa L.

Yelp
This place is amazing. We saw hundreds, maybe thousands of locals and tourists of different ages, it's quite a sight. It was rainy on the day we went so it was pretty packed indoors despite getting there around 6pm. It's a self serve beer garden - grab your own beer and food from the stalls, find a table, have a good time. There is one particular food stand that is very popular, it's the one with cut meat. We got the ham combo, though it had quite a lot of fat meat. Potato salad is delish. We got some bratwurst later on, delicious as well. They have 0.5L and 1L size mugs for the beers. There are also various coolers and sodas. Overall very cheap prices for a good and lively time.
google avatar

Tucker H.

Yelp
Definitely a cool experience, and the beer and food are solid! There are a couple large dining rooms inside in addition to the huge outdoor biergarten, but it still gets busy enough that you're almost certainly going to have to share a table with some strangers. Luckily, that's culturally acceptable, even encouraged. If it looks like seats are empty at a partially-filled table, just gesture and ask "Ist das frei?" and hopefully you will get a "Ja, bitte" with a gesture to join. For beer, find the open line, pay the cashier for either a half liter or a full liter, take the receipt, grab a mug from the wall, rinse it under the spigot, then hand it and the receipt to the beer guy, and he'll hook you up with some delicious local beer. Food is food-hall style: pay with cash at one of the 8-ish different individually-run food providers in the hallway. I'm a big fan of the pig knuckle (Schweins-Stelze) from Pavlovic, which is a gigantic ham hock taken off the bone for you and piled onto a plate with potatoes. Probably enough to feed three, and definitely enough for two. Make sure you ask for mustard up front if you want it; if you don't ask for it they won't give it to you, and it's about a dollar so if you ask after you've been rung up they'll have to ring you up again (which will annoy everyone behind you). If you get something rich too eat, stop by the tiny Atanassoff stall for some shredded radish, which is a great way to cut the rich food, and is also supposed to be good for your digestion. We've eaten here both times we've been in Salzburg, and if we go back in the future it will absolutely make the list for a third visit.
google avatar

Julieann C.

Yelp
I can not give this place enough credit. We had so much fun. Very friendly staff, amazing beer, fun atmosphere. My husband and I really enjoyed that there was different types of food stations to chose from. I highly recommend you adding this to your itinerary. Also, family friendly! Our 2-year old had a great time.
google avatar

Stewart O.

Yelp
Such a wonderful experience. There are many Selections of food that you can get also. There's only one type of beer though. But don't miss trying the Austrian sodas also. The dumplings and many kinds of sausages could really fill you up and it's such a great compliment to the Brew.
google avatar

Paul J.

Yelp
This is an old Austrian beer hall. We got there late so none of the food vendors were still operating but the service from the ladies that serve beer was exceptional. It's full of trees and umbrellas and locals enjoying themselves. You can bring dogs on the patio I believe. It's just a charming thing that you would think of as a beer garden if you live in the United States. If you're in the neighborhood I suggest you stop by for two beers at least.
google avatar

Yelp
An awesome famous brewery in Salzburg that is more fun than Stiegl brewery. It is a bit farther down the river from city center, but an easy walk and worth the trek. Food was excellent and inexpensive. We loved their muncher wiesse $2.90 euros and schweinbratwurstl mit sauerkraut $4.50. Now the beer process is you choose a mug size from the shelf, walk over to the sink to rinse it and step into line to oay and for your mug to be filled with Marzen bier. We ordered a Radler for $5.50 euros and were allowed 2 small mugs half filled with marzen including a bottle of limonade. You mix the limonade into your beer mug to make a Radler! They only accept cash here. Service was friendly.
google avatar

Neal W.

Yelp
Must stop if you are in Salzburg. Eat in the beer garden if weather is remotely good. Extremely reasonable prices, we fed 9 people more than they could eat for less than $50! Don't expect any variety of beer or any other type of alcohol. My wife is not a beer drinker and after pressing our server for other options his patience grew thin and he calmly but directly stated, "We are a brewery, we serve 1 kind of beer. We have been making it for more than 400 years, it's "good"! and he was right! Go experience and enjoy,
google avatar

Ron H.

Yelp
A must visit in Salzburg. Famous on site brewery with huge beer garden and some indoor halls as well. A bewildering selection of beer snacks are available (or at least bewildering if you don't speak German) from a variety of stalls scattered around the indoor and outdoor areas. The beer is top notch and served in old school tankards straight out of huge barrels.

Matt S.

Yelp
Amazing. Can't recommend it enough. True beer garden experience. Fresh from the barrel beer and plenty of local food options available in the "food court." Make time to come here--you won't regret it.
google avatar

Kristina S.

Yelp
One of the highlights of our trip to Salzburg - best traditional beer hall my husband or I have enjoyed. Spent a great 3hrs here - beer was great, food hall with plentiful choices (or you can bring in your own). Young and old enjoying the vibe - nothing too raucous, excellent people-watching.

Yelp
A must visit every time we make a visit to Salzburg. Whether the beer hall in the winter, or the biergarten in the summer there's plenty of places for groups large and small to sit and enjoy each others company. The food market hall has a large selection of local favorites, with tons of a la carte choices. Most importantly, the beer itself is a coppery smooth affair that goes down easy by the liter without inducing a severe hangover.

Yelp
What an interesting concept. Drink beer, eat food, make friends, have a good time. Definitely a good place to go for a large crowd while avoiding the so called "bar scene." Still, Definitely a very social place... in the very long table behind us, someone was celebrating a birthday, and the entire table was celebrating with him! I found the fact that you have to rinse the mugs yourself interesting... they were already clean, but I don't know if the beer hall washes them also. While I am sure it is not a significant issue, besides, it's tradition! You then get your beer filled straight out of a barrel, not a metal keg, but an actual barrel. There were two kinds of beer available that night, I had the cheaper one of the two (0,5L = €3.10). While I am not an experienced beer drinker, my colleague described it as "dangerously smooth". I think he was right, it was mild, tasty, and despite a half liter lasting me more than the whole meal, I ran out of beer before I ran out of food! As for the food... since I went with a large group (organized event) the food was provided by the beer hall. The quality of the food provided was not super great. I had an opportunity to try the schnitzel, cabbage salad (called kraut salad there), potato salad, and Kaspressknödel. Food did last a little under-the-lamp, or in this case, above the heater. Kaspressknödel was good, but charred on the outside. Keep in mind, I believe this to be provided by the beer hall, and not the vendors inside. Since you order from the vendors, don't let the paragraph above dissuade you from coming here Food at the stands looked delicious though, I did not try it, but the schnitzel sold at the stands was bigger, and looked better than the one we had been provided. Other food looked great too! Mostly meat, and some snack food (like fries). The only food I had purchased there was from the stand that sold sweets. The pastry and coffee were very good! While I understand that there are no waiters here since you get your own food, it would have been nice if the table was wiped down after the group before we left. However, since we sat as soon as they left, I can't put the entire blame on them.

Yelp
What a neat little oasis! This brewery where you select your stein, wash it and then someone fills it with good Austrian beer. Then, you find a nice table under a shade tree to enjoy it. We did not eat food there, but the beer was tasty. If you are in Salzburg for any amount of time, this is a must.

Yelp
This is the greatest establishment I have ever been to because it has the best beer I have ever drunk. I was touring Salzburg by myself and a local told me to stop here, else I wouldn't have known about it. You can tell the whole place is locals. Not a tourist trap. They only had one beer on tap which is a good sign. It was the best beer I have ever had and still is. I also loved the variety of food they had available and at a decent price. If I lived in Salzburg I would be here every day

Yelp
Amazing, fresh, refreshing beer. Happy atmosphere! Choose a mug, pay, then let the guy filler up.

Yelp
Biggest beer hall in Salzburg. Quite a walk from the city centre but c'mon, you can do it!!! The beer is a traditional one brewed on site and not the bubbly elixir we are used to today, but it's still great. I'd rate it up there. And you can say you drank steins in a beer hall. Box ticked

Yelp
Great place. Beer is excellent. Plenty of seating. Reasonable pricing. Convenient from city center. If you are in Salzburg, this is a must see.

Yelp
Excellent architecture and scenic area, very chummy atmosphere inside the hall itself. There was a pleasant mix of tourists and locals. The food really represented the landlockedness of the country. Take that as you will. I also love fresh produce and found this hard to come by. But who goes here for the vegetables, am I right? I do.
