Google
Not the best food, but the ambience is absolutely worth it. This historic, beautifully maintained restaurant is full of charm—every detail, from the vintage photos to the windows, adds to the experience. The beer, of course, is delicious. Service is fine, by typical German standards. Prices are reasonable, and overall, no regrets about coming here. It’s a great spot for the atmosphere alone

Egg T.

Google
Super busy spot that feels like a mini Oktoberfest tent! The vibe is definitely the main reason to come, lively, loud, and full of energy. The food itself is average at best, but if you’re here for the atmosphere, it delivers

Everything I hoped for in a traditional Bavarian beer hall, warm, buzzing, and full of character. The vaulted ceilings strung with hops set the scene, and the food carried it through. I went for the Munich Sausage Salad after my waiter politely (and hilariously) tried to talk me out of it, saying it’s “something only Germans eat.” 😂 I stuck with my choice, and it turned out to be one of the best dishes I had on my entire trip through Bavaria, simple, tangy, and absolutely addictive. The other plates, from hearty sausages and spätzle to apple strudel with ice cream, only reinforced that this place takes its classics seriously. Between the friendly service, the atmosphere, and the food, it’s a spot I’d come back to without hesitation.

Google
There’s a certain vibe here, you’ll have to be okay with the hustle and bustle. Service was rushed or almost non existent due to the sheer amount of people present (at dinner time). Food was good, portion and taste wise. Beer and the beer-house vibes were just amazing. The prices were very friendly too. Definitely a unique experience but just be aware of what you are getting yourself into and you’ll be fine.

Google
Great service and food with nice atmosphere. Generous portion, friendly waiters, and no forced tip. I recommend this place to everyone who want the Bavarian restaurant experience.

Google
This is one of my favourite restaurant in München. Simple but very tasteful meals, and very often « Oktoberfest » atmosphere. In the main period hard to find place, but there are two place anytime. The Agustiner is the best beer from the München’s big brands.

Google
Honestly, this place deserves 0 stars if it were possible. We had a deeply uncomfortable experience at this restaurant in Munich. Upon arrival, we were led past the toilets into a dimly lit basement corner, where 3 out of 4 tables were occupied by Asian guests, including ours. The seating arrangement already felt questionable. When placing our order, the waitress repeatedly pressured us to order more drinks, despite us politely declining multiple times. Her tone was dismissive and pushy. We noticed she behaved similarly toward other Asian tables, showing clear bias and rudeness. This was not just poor service, as it felt targeted towards Asians. Reading other reviews afterward, we realised we weren’t alone in this experience. Please do avoid this place at all costs. Update: This is definitely not the wrong place, it was not a cellar but a corner in the lowest floor. To potential guests, dine at your own risk.

Álvaro Godino R.

Google
A classic spot with real Bavarian charm. I had the pork knuckle with a beer — while the beer was truly great, the knuckle was just okay. Tasty, but I was expecting something a bit more special. Still, the authentic beer hall vibe and the warm, friendly service made it worth the visit. A good place to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy a proper German beer.

Yelp
The food and service are fantastic. This was precisely what I needed after a long travel day. I imagine it could be crowded at peak times. It was nice and quiet when we arrived at 1530.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and the guy at the door was very welcoming and we asked if we could sit outside? He said yes and directed us to a table that just got done. He had let someone else know it needed to be cleaned off and handed us menu. The guy at first cleans some things off and then stops. He doesn't touch it anymore and attends to other people and then stayed inside by the bar laughing at us. We don't understand why? We have never been rude and was very nice. I love Germany, my great grandfather is from here. I know how it can be. I know people hate us Americans right now, I get it but The funny thing is, my friend isn't an American and we were very nice and he stood there with another guy and laughed. We got the point and left and went somewhere else. But that's wild. I was told they do it to their own people too.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with a big group. The service was good and the atmosphere was pleasant. Food reviews below: Munich Liver Dumpling Soup: 0/5 I did not like the idea or flavor of this soup at all... Sausage Plate: 5/5 Filling and delicious! Some of the sausage tasted like a maple breakfast sausage. Grandma's Rohrnudel: 100/5 I was so shocked how good this was! The vanilla sauce that comes on the side to pour over the bread made it so delicious. If you don't order this, you're missing out!!

Yelp
We had a wonderful server with such a fun spirit. He made jokes about our order (my husband ordered a "baby beer" and I ordered a "German beer") and honestly it was exactly what we needed on a cold day. The food didn't come out at the same time which worked out for us since we shared anyway but it's worth mentioning. The schnitzel took a while but it was the freshest one we had our entire trip. The spatzel was just okay; I would skip it. The roast pork was tender and the gravy a perfect salty goodness. We were there fairly early so it was easy to find seating and have enough space to ourselves

Yelp
For the real Bavarian food and beer experience, this place is hard to top. The portions are large and the execution is text book. I came here on the recommendation of a Munich local and was not disappointed! I started with the special soup that had a layered dumpling thingy, it was delicious! The broth was tasty and didn't compete with space in my stomach for beer! The beer was brewery fresh and very easy to acquire with the fast service, nobody goes thirsty here! For dinner I got the sausage platter that was a nice sampler of different flavors. They were served atop a delicious warm sour kraut with bacon that was awesome! We didn't stop there as we had both kaisershmarm AND apple strudel for desert. Both were awesome but the strudel was next level! Just go here, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Wandered here after oktoberfest as we were out of cash. The spot is laid back, good food, and relaxed beer hall. We liked the service and our waiter was very prompt, even with a busy Sunday night crowd. You can mingle with others at the communal table.

Yelp
One of the only places allowed to brew beer in the City of Munich. We rolled in at 5 ish, just after the clock show in the time square. Sat downstairs in a systematic well oiled seating organization. Birthday dinner. Read on the interweb this was the place to come for pork knuckles- so here we go. The hubs was ready to eat, but the sampler platter for 2 had a little bit of everything so how could we not?? We did It was huge and amazing Schnitzel-- pork knuckles -- roasted pork-- sauerkraut -- tiny deliciousness sausages-- potato dumplings (sadly no potato pancakes exist in Munich) Goes great with beer Service amazing Even got a birthday mug :-) Sadly too full for dessert

Yelp
Very good! Tasty and affordable beer and radler up to 1L size. We were seated in the old lagering area below the building that as very atmospheric, just keep in mind no cell service. They had English language service available and were helpful throughout. Good classic Bavarian food at a fair price, would recommend.

Yelp
We loved the alfresco dinner. Food was amazing and the experience truly Bavarian. My hubby have roast pork and cracklings and potatoes with dark gravy. My son had a burger and said it was good! I had the fish and chips and they were delicious.

Yelp
Came here because I was starving and I had no idea how beer halls worked but the staff were friendly and accommodating! Started off with a beer and then got the mixed Bavarian meat specialty for around €18-19. The meats were very tasty with the beer sauce and garnish. The beer was pretty good too to compliment the meats. It's a pretty beer hall that was decorated for the winter holidays. It's an enjoyable vibe and would recommend coming here if you're in the area!

Yelp
Came here during Oktoberfest without a reservation and I am glad we got seated. There are 3 floors, the top floor is small with rooftop seating. Staff was friendly. The food was good (though in my opinion Bavarian food in general is a little bland) but I don't hold it against them since it is traditional.
google avatar

Vince M.

Yelp
The food was better than other places we tried around Munich. I had the German pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe) and I had pretty good size with gravy and potato dumpling. To wash it down the dunkel(dark lager) and that was one of the best I had in Germany and Austria. I made reservations weeks in advance and it was kinda of self seating. The guy in the front just said table 8 and you count the table and find your reservation printed and on the table. The only issue is that if the previous party decides to sit awhile longer you have to wait and the server will kind of nudge them along. Service was fairly quick. Side note if you speak English they say "the tip is not included" but tipping in most of Europe is not practiced. Knowing that Americans tip. Overall, was a pleasant evening on the first night out in Munich.

Yelp
We've been in Munich for almost 2 weeks and almost every night we have come to this restaurant absolutely delicious food and the people are super kind, hard working and very friendly. I have had nothing but great times in this restaurant. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
For our first night in Munich, this place came highly recommended and was walking distance from our hotel. By law, we must try a local favorite dish, and we shared a half-size Schweinshax'n with some amazing Augustiner brews! The Schweinshax'n was a truly perfect introduction to traditional German food. The pork knuckle was hot, tender, and juicy roasted pork on the inside, and super crispy on the outside with a crunch similar to pork chicharrones. Complimented by the perfect brown gravy and potatoes, this was a very satisfying, hearty meal made to perfectly compliment their delicious beers brewed in a massive brewery (and I mean MASSIVE) next to the restaurant. The inside bar area was the only thing open at the time we got there, but the vibe was friendly, fun, and welcoming. The bar area was roomy and comfortable. Once we were seated, it took no time at all to get our beer orders in and get menus. The kitchen closed at 10 pm on a weeknight, so plan accordingly if you plan to eat... and why wouldn't you? I would agree that this is one of those places away from the normal touristy areas that you really should visit while you're in Munich. We're glad we did!

Yelp
Very disappointed to say the least. We came here with a group of friends excited to have our last meal in Munich. We weee all looking forward to it. Sat on the teresse that was nice perfect weather. Service was very slow and our waiter wasn't very attentive. Our meals came at 4 different times. Very weird. The first one came out at least 20 mins before the second one and the last meal came about 40 minutes after the first one. Half way through someone on our party ordered fires which never came. They were also out of the dark beer which was weird. All in all not we expected from what we had heard about this place.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
This food was amazing! We loved everything we tried! My husband had the mixed sausage plate with mash, and sauerkraut. I had the mixed meat plate. The pork knuckle was okay but the roasted pork was the best ever. It melts in your mouth!
google avatar

Anna W.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! Of course the service is slow but that is standard in this area.

Yelp
Unfortunately I can't recommend this place for any tourists of the area. It started out great, our server who was a big bulky man with a big black beard and I think his name started with an "A" sat us down. We then ordered and the food was good but not great. He then came and then he told us the price and it was well over what it should have been, but we didn't know the price at that point. We also tried to buy a souvenir from him and he said the price was 10 dollars when in reality it was 8 dollars. We called him on it and he did honor the price after we showed him the price. We then give him the money that he charged us and then he said that he needed a tip. He probably took advantage of us since we speak English and we are from America so tipping is mandatory in America. But we also know that tipping is optional in Europe so it was very unprofessional to ask us for a tip. We give him another euro for a tip. I would not recommend going to this place if you were a tourist. (Also if the waiter that did this to us is reading this be a better person. There are better ways to get extra money than taking advantage of tourists.)

Yelp
Great food. HUGE portions and fantastic service. The ambience is warm and inviting. I would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
First dinner in Munich- was a little intimidating if you don't speak German or know to make a reservation. Busy and bustling, lots of large tables with rich food. I don't know there was a downstairs as we wandered to the upper room past the open concept hot kitchen with their reknown pork knuckles piled up like Peking duck in Chinatown! I digress... so a few waiters pointed to the back with some grunting when we said we had no reservations. Our waiter was Dominik who was very kind and patient with us. He manned at least 10 tables by himself and always checking on folks and so hardworking. My friend had roasted pork ( just had the knuckle the night before elsewhere) which came with a lovely cabbage slaw salad with no mayo and was light and refreshing seemingly there to cut the heaviness of the rest of the dish. Pork was tender and gravy flavorful. I had an upset stomach from the day before so enjoyed my pretzel and beef broth with a huge meatball in it. Felt like a great first introduction to German fare.

Yelp
Overnight flight from the U.S. with no sleep. No time to waste when there is so much good beer to drink.

Winker M.

Yelp
The Croatian male waiter was super friendly and nice. He's def the guy to ask for. Also, u guys have to try their schnitzel. good ambiance

Yelp
The food/ service and atmosphere is outstanding. This is a place that you will remember going to your entire life. I had the meat trio to split. Not pictured: cheese spatzel - a ten out of ten - must try

Yelp
Was told by our hotel that this place was authentic German food and a good time later at night. We arrived 10pm for a late dinner since we spent the day at OctoberFest and had some down time at our hotel. The food was very good, service fast and then about 10:30 it turned into a multi cultural party song dance club. American sing along songs like Sweet Caroline to Don't stop Believing to YMCA and more while also playing party songs from Germany and other European countries. Everyone was dancing on the tables and singing along. (Only about 20% of the crowd was American) Highly recommend the food and the party atmosphere. Oh, all ages had a good time. My wife and I are both over 50 and caught the fun bug with the 20 something's.

Yelp
We were staying at a nearby hotel that featured a lot of Augustiner beer so we decided to try one of the restaurants for dinner! I will say the food was great, it was more so our service experience that made it a less than stellar expereince. We arrived around 7:30/8 or so for a later dinner, and we were seated immediately by a wait staff member. He did not end up being our section's server, which was disappointing. Ours checked in very infrequently and we noticed that he was checking in on every other table around us, but somehow skipping us/not looking at us/very little acknowledgement. I realize that service in Europe is different, but the fact that he'd check in on other tables surrounding us (and not us) was odd. It took us 15 minutes to order beer, and then another 40+ minutes to get a food order in. Paying after our meal was also another ordeal. I think our total time at the restaurant was nearly 3 hours, most of which was spent waiting. We were trying so hard to make eye contact or catch him and it was nearly impossible! Our food was very good despite the wait! We split goulash (soup) and pork chops with a mushroom sauce and spaetzle. Both were excellent. I loved the mushroom sauce and spaetzle. The pork did have a piece that seemed a little under cooked (or maybe just pinker than I prefer) but otherwise had good flavor. The goulash was good too, especially with the bread dipped in it. Had the waits not been so long we would have thought about trying dessert or a second beer! However, given the time and the wait, we didn't want to chance it. Hoping we just had an off night and this isn't the norm!

Yelp
great food, good late night spot. went here with friends and had some pretzels. great vibes and happy staff. overall good experience during oktoberfest.

Anders V.

Yelp
Visited on a Sunday afternoon, Pork knuckle was delicious, and would recommend. The outdoors seating area was clean. Only negative thing I had was being rudely rushed to order our food and while on our double date, I was incorrectly racially referred to as a "Chinese man" when my fiancé was paying. Being rush to order food is fine, as I understand the workload that waiters have to handle as this restaurant attracts many tourists. But being racist or racially profiling a guest is unacceptable. I regrettably will never return to this establishment after being disrespected in such manner, and I hope the employees will treat their current and future guests with respect and dignity.

Yelp
Venture a mile out from the city centre for this beer hall filled with locals hanging out, celebrating birthdays, and having a great time. We got several beers, pretzels, spaetzle, schnitzel, pork knuckle and sauerkraut. The portions are huge and delicious. The pork knuckle was very tender and juicy, and the spaetzle (cheese noodle dish) is topped with fried onions and filled with the most delicious small but thick spiral noodles - I highly recommend sharing with the table. Come early to find a spot! It fills up quick for great reason.

Yelp
I was staying at the nearby Hampton Inn and found this place on Yelp. It was open until midnight on a Sunday so seemed a good bet for a later dinner. I went there the long way by S-bahn, but found the quick return by tram later. Lively interior, with long wood tables and bench seating. The dark Dunkel beer is very good. Paired it with leberknoedelsupp and the fried chicken. Not KFC but a pair of fried chicken schnitzels with potato salad onthe side. Very filling meal. 21.35 before tip.

Yelp
Amazing environment nice service we love the server she guessed our favorite plates right away
google avatar

Yelp
Food was awesome! Service was excelent!!! The place is very lively and Fun! Love the beer as well!

Jeff B.

Yelp
Excellent Bavarian food. Excellent service. The portions are large and delicious. We got there just after 5 pm and the place was almost empty. By the time we finished our meal, the place was full with a waiting line.
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, service and delicious food. Was recommended here from a friend and it did not disappoint. Went for a quick bite and a beer. We ordered the goulash and the cheese plate. We were so full. The cheese plate was more than enough for 4, even had some leftover. It had a variety including Brie, Swiss, pimento & more. The goulash was heavenly and hit the spot. Ordered the Radler bier x 2. This place will not disappoint. Just go!

Yelp
Augustiner is popular among the locals for a reason. We visited on a snowy blizzard night, streets were so empty but this place was so packed and bumping. It could be intimidating at first, just find open seats even if the large table has people there. Servers will come and take food/drink orders ASAP. All portions are huge - food and drinks!!!! Hefe is the best beer option IMHO and the duck is a must! Make friends with your table neighbors too, everyone there is having a good time.

Dave K.

Yelp
Must visit while in Zurich. Fantastic food and a giant slice of history. The portions are huge so bring an appetite, or a friend.
google avatar

Debbie W.

Yelp
Excellent food and authentic Germany styled. Great beer and the atmosphere is good both inside and out. Ate dinner there twice and visited one afternoon to enjoy a beer outside. Staff is friendly and helpful. Most staff have an understanding of the English language.
google avatar

Dave J.

Yelp
Beer is absolutely amazing. We enjoyed a couple liters and and had great time. Service here was also excellent. Can't wait to come back. Prost

Robert M.

Yelp
Excellent Bavarian food!. They speak english well, and the menu is in english as well. Nice restaurant with reasonable prices and friendly staff.

A B.

Yelp
Good one! Very popular with locals, in this central-ish, yet have-to-know-the-place location. Lively atmosphere, Bavarian staples, and Augustiner beer is considered to be the best of the traditional 'Helles' Munich beer brands by most locals. Prices are affordable for food and particularly the beers (€3.40 for a 0.5l beer and €4.50 for a 0.25l glass of wine, in 2023, in Munich, way to lead, Augustiner!) Food quality though, mhh ... it's acceptable considering the price, but know that you'll get the most basic versions of the dishes, e.g. Schweinebraten with a sauce more resembling broth, no kraut salad to accompany, and unfortunately no pork crust. Münchner Stubn close to Hauptbahnhof does the dishes quite a bit better, but they also charge quite a bit more. My recommendation would be to eat here and order dishes that are best in their least elaborate version, like a pair of White Sausages.
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
Great place to start my trip. I was sad that the kitchen closed just after I arrived. So that just meant beer and pretzels for dinner for me! Both were excellent! Friendly place, just grab a seat and enjoy your time! I will defiantly be back!

T H.

Yelp
I am fro Munich and I used to go to the Brästuben often and I was always very satisfied. This was my first time back since the pandemic and I was veryy disappointed. The potato salad was bought ready and you had to look very carefully for the meat of the schnitzel. Of course, the prices went up anyway. Unfortunately, the worst was the service. Even if you don't have perfect knowledge of German, I expect more friendliness than communication with just 1-2 barked words. After we asked the waiter about it there was only a "What'your problem bro" as an answer. Unfortunately, I can now only advise against a visit here.
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
I wish I had taken pics of the food, but everything looked so delicious that we devoured everything. We walked in not knowing if we were going to get sat cuz everything near the Oktoberfest grounds is by reservation only. We were sat at a long table with one party to our right and another to our left. Most other times this would be odd, but whatever we are in Munich and it forced my husband and I to be social. The party to our right ended up being from Florida it made for a great experience cuz everyone was super chipper and buzzing hard. The restaurant was so loud and all you heard were German chants and steins clanking.... The schnitzel was amazing! Fried perfectly, super tender, and well seasoned. The fries were great too. They had a pretzel basket on the table to enjoy and those were fresh and delicious. The service was great considering how busy they were. The server never forgot our beers or anything we asked, and the food came out fast. Overall a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic German cuisine and a great experience.

Michael D.

Yelp
Very good food in a friendly warm atmosphere. They took really good care of me on a cold evening and for that I am thankful. Serious good food. I had the schnitzel with spatzel and It hit right. Would definitely return.
google avatar

Ginger W.

Yelp
Really great Bavarian good! Not a huge variation but have been here for 4 days and I ate here twice! Excellent desserts and really good beer; they still store beer in wooden barrels, if I heard them correctly.
google avatar

Damian W.

Yelp
Food: 4.0/5.0 Service: 3.0/5.0 Value: 3.0/5.0 Decor: 3.0/5.0 Overall: 4.0/5.0 Awesome spot, one of my favs of the beer halls visited. Not too many tourists, very good food. Beer was good too. Would come back. Bit of a hike from the city center though.

Claudia L.

Yelp
Good food and service. Agustiner was recommended by the locals, I wouldn't say it's the best but pretty good.
google avatar

Glenn M.

Yelp
Wow, after a full day of international travel we were starving. This place was right across the street from where we were staying. With Oktoberfest going on, the atmosphere was festive. We sat at a long table with some locals. First, the beer was tasty. A dunkel. We then ordered a schweinhaxe and a sausage plate. They were both amazing and too much to eat. To top it off, we had an apple strudel with ice cream that was so tasty.
google avatar

Steven M.

Yelp
Foodwise Would definitely order: -Schweinshaxe with knodel -obazda Other goodies: Kasespatzle Augustiner hell helles

Penny L.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Has English menu. The pork neck is a tad dry but still delicious.
