"Munich's Most Rustic Beer Garden The most "rustic" of Munich’s beer gardens, the Augstiner Keller serves freshly tapped Augustiner Edelstoff beer from the traditionally made wooden barrels. It's a popular beer garden with both locals and visitors. Conveniently located near the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) it offers a tranquil oasis in the middle of the city."

We were greeted with a smile and immediate seating. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself feels very authentic and historic. You really get a taste of German culture with this restaurant. For our meals, we got sausages and the München schnitzel which both we recommend. Prices were very fair and beer was delicious.

Google
Very nice and tasty place. The restaurant is very large, so everyone will find a piece of the table for themselves. We sat in a nice garden outside. The ordered duck, Schnitzel, and Klöße in mushroom sauce were delicious. The prices are rather higher, but the food will definitely compensate for it. I recommend.

Google
A super good restaurant where food and drinks are brought to you literally within 5 minutes! Huge portions and everything is insanely delicious! The two terraces are full of tables to accommodate several hundred people and there is a small parking place on the site. I liked everything very much, and our waiter was the best I have met in the last 3 years of visiting all kind of restaurants! If you are in Munich - you must visit this place!!!

Google
5 stars! The Augustiner-Keller is an absolute gem. I went there with my dog and the dog-friendliness was just fantastic. They immediately brought a water bowl for my four-legged friend and the staff was incredibly kind and attentive. You feel welcome from the moment you arrive, which makes the visit so special. The food was great, of course, but the service and the warm atmosphere truly impressed me. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a wonderful time in Munich.

Google
Augustiner-Keller in Munich! We hit up their beer hall, which is a blast. But I can say the hofbrauhaus is more lively. For food, you absolutely have to try the roast pork – it's phenomenal, especially with their potato dumpling. It goes down perfectly with their beer. Speaking of beer, while the Augustiner beer is classic, I personally preferred their wheat beer – so good! We were inside the beer hall, but they've also got this huge outdoor garden. Next time, I'm definitely making a beeline for the garden, though I suspect a lot of tourists just head straight for the hall, which is still a great time. Overall, Augustiner-Keller is totally worth the experience when you're in Munich. Just one little hiccup for me: when I asked for the bill, the server made me go to the counter, he directly asked for a tip! That was a bummer! He didnt have to, I always leave a tip anyway. But honestly, everything else was fantastic! You gotta check it out.

Google
Highly recommend! Food and drinks were fantastic. Our server was the best! Incredible atmosphere that the whole family enjoyed. Huge place. We only did apps and drinks. Best pretzel and the sausage sampler dish did not disappoint.

Google
Ancient restaurant with an astonishing number of seats both indoors and outdoors. Many locals come here to enjoy a meal or a keg of beer, so it's super authentic. We had roast pork and pork knuckle, both of them arrived within a few minutes and they were scrumptious. Paired with their own beer it's the way to enjoy a Bavarian meal.

Google
Great outdoor atmosphere - especially in spring when the surrounding chestnut trees are in bloom and fully fragrant. Food was delicious and they even had an alcohol-free beer option that was so good I wouldn't have been sure it was an NA if I didn't see them poor it from the bottles myself. There are 2 sections... The Self-service section can get a little crowded to collect your food and beverages but it offers a quicker option of service and the ability to visually see all your food options before deciding - otherwise, if you have the time to sit and enjoy the full service experience with leaderhosen dressed staff, it will only add to the experience. All tables are community seating with an option to sit in doors as well (if your lucky to spot a hole large enough for your party. There's also an outdoor playground for kids (or adults who still like to play) 😉

Yelp
Giant beer restaurant a bit away from old town. We went in December so ate and drank inside. Might be our favorite in Munich. Spent a few hours there and didn't hear or see a lot of other tourists. Food was good, but heavy on meat. (There are salads too) We had a roast special and a spitzel. We ate in the club room instead of the main hall (by happenstance? Both settings were good. A contrast to Hofbrauhous (no band, a bit more refined ) and would recommend going to both.

Yelp
Very old, traditional, and classic Bavarian beer garden and restaurant. This is a popular place so the staff hustles. Ate lunch here before an event and wanted a traditional dish. Co-worker had the pepperschnitzel with spaetzle. He said it was excellent. I had the wienerschnitzel with potatoe salad. It was spot-on! It doesn't any better than this.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was really good. The ochenfetzen was very delicious. The beef cooked perfectly and the sauce was amazing. The roasted potatoes are also very good. The spatzel was equally as good. The onions were crispy and delicious. The Apple strudel was also very good. The vanilla sauce is delicious but not overly sweet. I love European desserts. The beer was good also. The service was fairly slow and non-existent compared to the other places we have been too but it wasn't horrible.

Yelp
Augustiner-Keller was the best introduction to German beer and cuisine. We didn't have a reservation but were fortunate to be seated after 5 minutes. We were led into the giant hall and seated at the communal tables. It was easy to start conversing with our neighbors. The place was bustling with activity and yet our waitress was so attentive. Our food and drink came quickly. Highly recommend the pork knuckle. The beers are fantastic. Cash and card are accepted. When you pay cash, tell them how much you're paying or else they'll keep the change automatically. I didn't know this and ended up tipping over 20%.

Yelp
BEER! and more BEER! When in Germany. Loved the drinks here (better than Hofbrau). We tried the original, dunkel and wheat beer. All were good. It's again communal seating like all beer halls but I liked that they seated us after a wait so it was not chaos. A bit more understated and elegant than the other one. But both are worth going to! Food here was decent too. We got the pretzel, risotto and some potato ball thing with mushroom gravy. I'd go back if I was in Munich again!

Yelp
We wanted to stop at one traditional beer garden in Munich on our last day and this place was recommended by our local tour guide. It is an enormous location with even a gate and driveway to the main building. Inside is lively and busy. Reservations are definitely recommended at night. We went during lunch time when it was slightly less busy. I had the schnitzel and my partner had the pork knuckle. We both really enjoyed our meals and beers. The best part was the vibe of the location. Our waiter was also hilarious and constantly making jokes to every table. It reminded me of Prime Time diner at Disney world in that sense. Definitely check this place out if you're craving a Munich beer hall experience!

Yelp
Best German food we had in Munich! We were dining among locals and the prices were reasonable. Very close to hbf and plenty of seating. I recommend making a reservation though.

Yelp
Augustine Keller is a gem. It's a Bier Garten that has a strong commitment to giving back to the community. They are involved in various charitable initiatives, supporting local causes and making a positive impact in the area. You can go down into the "Keller," or cellar which was an adventure down a windy staircase. I had their salad. It was huge, fresh and flavorful. The inclusion of pickled mushrooms was a unique and thoughtful touch that added a tangy goodness.
google avatar

Chandler P.

Yelp
Came here for our first beer and pretzel in Germany. The beer was nice, but the pretzel was hard and I was hoping it would be soft. We also shared a Weinerschnitzel, which was pretty good. The staff sat us very quickly at a table upstairs with one of the best views of the restaurant. Our server was really friendly and took pictures of us and took us to the underground cellar room so we could see what that was like. This room was charming. The atmosphere of both the restaurant and the underground cellar was great and it felt very traditional and authentic.

Yelp
Really liked the food and vibe here and actually preferred it to Hofbräuhaus. The patio was really nice and we enjoyed sitting there. The vibes here felt more relaxed and less touristy. I had this fried cheese thing with cranberries which was a special. I actually really enjoyed it and I don't always like fried cheese. My friend had some sort of German ravioli thing which she enjoyed. Our server was also super nice and everything came out pretty quick.

Yelp
WORST service EVER! I have never experienced the rudeness of a wait staff in my entire life. We came in, sat ourselves outside, the waiter came over( wish i knew his name but he wasn't wearing a name tag) and pretty much told us what we were ordering.. he just wanted to give us beer and I don't drink beer, I wanted a water abs my friend wanted something else them beer. He got mad when we said, I'm no beer for me can I have a .... He immediately was annoyed and tried to push it on us but eventually walked away. He came back in through all of our drinks at us and then asks us if we want food. We said YES we are starving and ready to order. He walked away and didn't come back for 20 min. WHEN he returned he said we had 2 min to order before the kitchen closed and all they had were two options from the menu left. We were like what?? 2 options out of the whole menu.. he proceeded to yell at us screaming out the 2 options. I was so hungry and there was literally nowhere else open so we just picked one of the options. My boyfriend asked about Apple strudel. And if there was a slice you could order. The way to literally told him that he's was gonna kick him out for asking that question. We were really confused. We ate our food and quickly got the help out of there.... Never again!!
google avatar

Yelp
You can't go wrong with the food here. However the biggest treat is the beer. The service can be a bit slow at times, but this might be due to not being German. The vibe here is awesome with everyone outside enjoying beer and food. Reminds me of a picnic atmosphere. If you find yourself in Germany you have to find this place.
google avatar

Ed C.

Yelp
Service was mixed but that's expected... the food was ok or great depending on what you ordered. The beer was definitely on point and the atmosphere was fun. T

Richard H.

Yelp
We say in the beer garden, so there was no service to speak of. We got the char-grilled fish and a pretzel. The fish was good...the pretzel was maybe the best I've ever had. Hard on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside. The ambiance is incredible: bountiful trees, tons of people drinking, in the right night it's worth staying forever because of how magical the place is. 10/10 would recommend...as long as you don't mind being around people.

Elissa H.

Yelp
German food, especially in Bavaria, is heavy on meat. There's also plenty of accommodations for vegetarians. I found a traditional German place that's got a couple of vegetarian dishes and one fish dish. And lots of meat, of course. Beautiful scenery. Lots of space indoors and outside.

Yelp
This is a must stop for anyone who has never been to a traditional Bavarian beer garden. Housing people in the 1000's it is a chaotic scene so if possible, ask around ahead of time to go with a local who can guide you around. For example, be careful not to sit in a reserved space, sometimes with table cloths, otherwise sit at open, self-serve tables with nothing on them. What you must order is a beer Krug, or a very large mug (1 liter or 33 oz) because they are fun to carry (with your palm) toast to and drink from. The lager, poured straight from a wooden barrel, is smooth, refreshing and well balanced. But you can also try a "Radler" which is a blend of spritzty lemonade-like drink with wheat beer, which makes for a sweetened low alcohol option. The food is squarely Bavarian - so lots of pork, potato composite, pork ribs, pork chops, cabbage salads and there's even a kiosk selling grilled fish. There are pretzels, sausages, other unidentified sliced meats and even a lousy attempt at a pasta dish. The entire experience is very festive and feels like you're amongst a very large summer camp because you're outdoors amongst the dirt and trees. The food experience is interesting - and worth trying, despite a lot of it being on the dry and/or salty side. But I've been told that is very traditional! That's all...

Yelp
The outdoor biergarten is great, but the basement is awesome and there is almost no cell service in the basement! Food is very good and the beers are great! I love the Pork, Pork, Duck dish and often shared it along with a pretzel each with a friend finding it to be too big for one person. The sweet mustard is great too.
google avatar

Ernie H.

Yelp
Eating outdoors in May at a beer garden in Bavaria what more can you ask for? The Radler beer/lemonade is amazing. It comes down real sweet and smooth with zero aftertaste. The edelstoff beer was fine. For food we had the The kasespatzle (buttery pasta without the butter), the brotzeit (combo plater of everything) all were good. The standout however is the haxnpfander. It's roast pork(crispy skin), veal, dumplings and sweet red cabbage. German cuisine at its best. Folks it's not just the food, it's the soccer fans attired in FC Bayern Munchen singing their hearts having a stein just before the match. Even this jet lag tourist hasn't failed to enjoy this very European moment.

Yelp
I have this spot bookmarked but can't remember which food show featured it. We arrived around 9:30 on a Tuesday evening and they were busy. Biergarten/Rustic decor and loud/upbeat atmosphere where a big group could break out in song with raised glasses at any minute. We ended up sharing a table with another party of two who happened to be locals. It ended up being an even better evening as we had introductions and connected. We ordered, based on our server's recommendation, Augustiner Edelstoff (Lager). Very light/crisp and paired well with dinner. The Zwiebelrostbr (Grilled Sirloin Steak) was tender and tasty although some parts were over cooked -was supposed to be Medium). The side roasted potatoes were pure comfort-delicious! Nurnberger sausage plate was served on top of Sauerkraut. 6 sausages that were tasty and paired well with the abundant bed of Sauerkraut. Our neighbor advised me not to eat all of the huge portion of Sauerkraut-I wisely listened. The Kasespatzle was amazing! Just the right amount of cheese with the fried onions taking it over the top. We had a second round of Beer. This time a Dunkel (Red) and Weissbeer. Both were enjoyed but heavy when compared to the Lager. Our waiter brought out complimentary Pear Schnapps shots which was a nice touch. Prost! He was upbeat, engaged, having fun and took great care of us. We saw a huge outside seating area. About a 10 minute walk from Central Station. Great spot for Beer and Local flavor!

Yelp
great beer and food. Salad was quite good surprisingly. massive place if you want to have the full Bavarian experience
google avatar

Olivia S.

Yelp
Amazing food and atmosphere!! The potato, bacon and chive soup was the best I've ever had. We weren't crazy about the sausages. We thought they would be more of a bratwurst style. The smoked salmon appetizer was very good. We heard the cellar is a really cool area to dine in but it was unfortunately closed. You should try it out!
google avatar

James A.

Yelp
Great food, wonderful seating and atmosphere, the staff are busy. My father absolutely enjoyed this place. I've gotta find out how to ship the Weißbier back to the US.

Joseph S.

Yelp
Food was delicious and plentiful and could not finish my veal but really tried. "Just one more bite" The strudel was amazing and the people were happy and friendly. Service was quick and professional and the ambiance was beautiful Definitely will return

Yelp
This is the quintessential German brew house! It is also the oldest brewery in Munich, established in 1328 in a monastery. The Biergarten itself can seat 5,000. We arrived without a reservation but were seated on a shared table by the open kitchen right away. We ordered the Schweinshaxe or ham hock and Schmankerlplatte, a sampler plate with duck, sausage, roasted pork and duck. The meats were tender and delicious! Both came with a potato dumpling and cabbage. We also ordered Keller cheese, a combo of Camembert and cottage cheese. It comes with bread, a pretzel and pickled onions. But a meal here isn't complete without a glass of beer! There isn't a page of beers on draft. They have a dark, light or a beer shandy. I had the light, a wheat beer or Weissbier, which is easy to drink and a good accompaniment to this meal. Make sure to add this place to your itinerary on your next visit!! Prost!!

Yelp
Fantastic place for our last night in Munich. Make a reservation before you go! Fantastic beer. Food was amazing! When you think of a German beer hall, Augustiner-Keller is it!

Yelp
Loved it! Great food. Excellent service and amazing environment. Highly recommend the schnitzel and baked potato soup

Yelp
Wow! I think this is a fitting way to start out on this review. This place is overwhelming. Not in a bad way, but in a way that you just have to go in prepared. With seating for over 5000 people you can become overwhelmed with the sheer magnitude of tables, people, and noise. And we were lucky enough to hit it right at the peak! ( yikes) We first stopped by the host desk. He asked if we had a reservation, which we did not. So he said we could find a table outside. We walked around for a good 10 minutes, looking for a place to sit with a party of four and mistakenly sat in a drinking zone that was self service. We wanted to get drinks and dinner. So really at this point we were giving up and going to find something else, when we just happened upon an open table on our way out in the food zone. So we nabbed it. The wait staff here is absolutely amazing. The amount of beers that they can carry in one hand is superhuman. They are also covering a large territory of tables and do it extremely well. We ordered drinks and food at the same time. The drinks came out all together, but when our food came, one of the meals was on a delay for some reason, and arrived about 10 minutes after our food was there. But we were having fun drinking and chatting with neighboring tables. Everybody was there just to have a good time. So I guess to summarize, just be prepared for the sheer magnitude of this beer garden. And once you have that frame of mind, your maneuver through it the best you can.

Yelp
We come here because of 4 star on yelp. I thought this place is famous but a little disappointed, the food just ok, the Pork leg is deep fried not like the other one really grilled and tasted like fast food. Beer is good, service not bad and ambience with long history.

Kelly W.

Yelp
The Keller is an outdoor bier garden. This time of year it can be very busy if the weather is nice. The prices are very reasonable the food is typical German good quality considering the amount they go through. Get a haxe

Yelp
My favorite Bräuhaus in Germany, been here a few times, always solid, addicting. The Lager Keller had private events going on, since it was Christmas time, but the bar area was fun, great conversation with people from all over the world. The beer, food and service is always great....they had some form of curling out in the beer garden with wooden huts to gather, if you have a group. Definitely walk around inside, Lager Keller, beer halls and out in the bier garten before you leave, really cool.

Yelp
My personal favorite dinner during my Germany travels. The servers were nice here and we were seated right away at the restaurant area. Beer options include a house beer, Weiss, plenty of non alcoholic drinks as well. There's a large beer garden area as well with cafeteria style food and drinks section. At the restaurant we ordered a cordon bleu dinner, which came with a large portion of pork cordon bleu, fries, half a peach, cranberry, lettuce garnish. I had the pumpkin soup and salad. Everything was excellent. The cordon bleu was very cheesy, tender, and the fries were crisp and lightly salted. The dressing for the salad was delicious and came with fresh butter lettuce, potato salad, tomato wedges. The pumpkin soup was very tasty as well and had a nice curry drizzle on top that added a tasty layer of spices. I would highly recommend coming here for dinner. We took a 20 min train ride to get here and it was well worth it.

Yelp
Wonderful traditional German ambiance. Schnitzel was a little dry, unfortunately. Service was great and so was ambiance.
google avatar

Secil A.

Yelp
Pretty good ambiance and big space but the food was okay and was very overpriced. There are many other places that are better quality and better priced in that area. Service was also pretty slow. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you can't find another reservation somewhere and want a classic beer hall experience
google avatar

Yelp
Food was great the beer was great remember to go up and pay excellent service. Very busy but they get you in and out quick if you want

Yelp
This place has been brewing beer since the 1300's. What??!?! German beer just goes down so much better. Have yourself a pint. The waiter are all quite fluent in English when needing help in ordering. Also, I tried a roasted beef with gravy, potato dumpling and warm red cabbage/sauerkraut. Every....last....item was delicious. Go there, you won't be disappointed. Attached is a pic of my husband's meal! They also had live music, which added to the fun atmosphere.

Yelp
The massive Augustiner Beer Garden is super popular among locals and features a huge complex full of people enjoying drinks under the shade of trees. The food here was standard beer garden fare, and we had the Schweinshaxe (crispy pork knuckle) served with a chewy potato dumplings and beer sauce; 6 little Nürnberger sausages with sauerkraut; a Greek salad (cucumbers, peppers, olives, and feta cheese); and a huge salted pretzel. The quality of the food was rather average--the pork knuckle was fatty and slightly tough, and many of the other items were overly salty. But I was a big fan of the Steckerlfisch stand, which offered whole mackerels grilled on a stick and sold by weight. The freshly-grilled fish had a nice salty exterior and meaty texture and was delicious all on its own. And while the food here may not have been a highlight, the lively atmosphere created by the beer-drinking locals certainly was!

Sarah J.

Yelp
Good Bavarian food and beer in a historic beer hall. They've been making beer for several hundred years, so they know what they're doing. I appreciate they let you order 1/2 liters of everything. We had pork sausage with sauerkraut and Bavarian meatloaf (it's more like ham than American-style meatloaf) with potato salad. Excellent service and be sure to check out the dancing coopers on the chandelier!

Yelp
I'm going to be honest with you, I don't know how much of this review will be accurate because I came here after a few hours at the Octoberfest tents. I had quite the buzz and I wanted to keep it going by checking out one of the older establishments in Munich. So in my mildly inebriated state, I was able to enjoy another pint here, some pig knuckle, some schnitzel and blintzes (dessert). The food itself was, forgettable other than the dessert. I remember vaguely really enjoying the dessert. I also of course enjoyed the beer. I did walk around the place and it is quite impressive. Lots of room to host lots of people. The journey to find the restrooms was fun because you had to traverse down some stairs into what I thought felt was suppose to be a place that would be a cellar of some sort. So I really wanted to check this place out because of its history and it did not disappoint in that aspect. I really wish I could give you a more detailed account of my experience here but in all honesty it was a bit of a blur, but I was able to safely survive it with a smile on my face when I left so cheers to that. Prost!
google avatar

Mindy Y.

Yelp
Amazing place! It felt like I was part of a Harry Potter movie! I love the black currant sparkling water that went with my meal. The potato dumplings were great and the meat was good (augustiner schmankerlplatte). Dessert was also amazing (freshly baked apple strudel and Bayrische Vanillacreme)! Waiter was apologetic that our food took so long. PS. I only took one star off because I found glass in my red cabbage - I am guessing that someone probably broke a beer glass and it just happened to shatter in my food.
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Love this place! Food, service, beer...everything about it! I don't usually drink beer. I know... :-) the beer was fantastic! Loved the authentic German food and sharing the tables with other parties. Great time!
google avatar

Gabriela R.

Yelp
Out of all the locations that I went to in the short time I visited Munich, this was the best. It is very intimidating when you don't know the language or the process but you learn quick. There are a few options of restaurant style you can experience here. The patio with device, indoor with service or cafeteria style. We chose cafeteria style every time and it was extremely delicious every time. Can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Max G.

Yelp
If you are looking for an authentic Biergarten this is a great choice. Beers are served in half liters or liters until 5pm and after 5, only liters. Authentic menu with lots of options and daily specials. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, but they are hustling so expect quick service and some urgency in the ordering process. The entire space is idyllic biergarten. If you have children, there is a playground. Expect to sit at a table with other people. Good news is most people are nice and sometimes you make new friends.
google avatar

Lu-Shien T.

Yelp
I came to this place lunch and dinner for 3 days straight to sample weisswurst, Munchen schnitzel. Mixed grill with duck, schweinebraten, schweinehaxe, and a Nurnberg bratwurst served with dunked bier brown gravy and a potato dumpling. After all that, I discovered I adore schweinebraten because it is a bit of white and dark meat, cartilage and some crackling! All moist and tender! The Edelstoff bier is served out of a wooden barrel and so delicious--I easily drained 1 liter steins
google avatar

Jacqueline C.

Yelp
In our experience, the garden was overwhelming the staff was no help, and they showed no interest in being helpful. For example, there is a self service and regular service section, but the distinction was not clear. We tried to ask where to sit, but the staff literally wouldn't turn their head to look at us to respond. We approached 3 different people. In the self-serve section, there was a language barrier as we don't know German. So much so that we're unsure whether my beer was alcoholic or not. And, the pretzel had a screw in it. Interesting.

Yelp
Super great service. Love the attention specifically because I don't speak German !! Great food, nice environment !

Yelp
The host seated us right away, Sameer our server was very pleasant. He helped us pick the drinks and food. Food was great, the ambiance was amazing. A lot of people, live band, it was perfect. Thank you

Yelp
The strudel is life changing. A must get. Pfefferschnitzel is a good change of pace from all the fried food youll eat in germany. Our waiter was a funny guy.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place. We loved the energy. We like the option to have full service or self-serve dinner. Lots of seating and fun.

Yelp
Great place for German food and a beer , summer in the beer garden with there in the Keller
