We stayed at this hotel in West Launceston, Tasmania last week and, unfortunately, had a very unpleasant experience from the moment we arrived. The staff, especially the lady on the Reception was quite rude and unwelcoming, which set a negative tone for the rest of our stay. Upon entering the room, we noticed a musty, damp smell in the air, and the atmosphere felt stuffy and unclean. Things only got worse when I went to wash my hands and discovered that the towels in the bathroom smelled old and musty—definitely not fresh or clean. It was obvious they had not been properly laundered, as they lacked any scent of detergent or cleanliness. When I called reception to raise my concerns, instead of being understanding, they responded in a very condescending and dismissive manner, saying they would first need to come and inspect the towels themselves. After doing so, they admitted the towels looked the way they always do and offered to replace them—but made it clear that the replacements would be in similar condition. This response was both frustrating and upsetting. Additionally, we had booked a room for four people, but when we arrived, we found only one double bed and a sofa bed—not a proper bed as expected. We were so dissatisfied with the condition of the room and the poor customer service that, despite having paid for two nights, we decided to leave after just one night and checked into another hotel. I would strongly advise others to look elsewhere. This was a deeply disappointing experience and I absolutely do not recommend staying here.

Quiet, clean and comfortable. Older style hotel but has everything you need, and located conveniently close to the city centre. Loved the big bathtub in our ensuite!|Good value for money, we would be happy to stay again next time we are in Launceston.

Fantastic service, great location with spacious comfortable rooms and an overall beautiful property. We are regulars at The Auldington and always have such a good time. James couldn't be more helpful. Would highly recommend for anyway visiting Launceston.

Highly Recommend! Quite Affordable. Everything was absolutely delightful, from the fellow on the front desk who is absolutely devoted to providing the best information and assistance whenever asked for his help, such a great guy, nothing was too much trouble for him and he was so clear with instructions. The room was large and tall ceilings, the chairs were perfectly comfortable the bathroom was so spacious and the bath was my favourite. The view was great and all the amenities provided were great. The history of this place is quite interesting. Everything was spotlessly clean. I would definitely stay here again. I'm actually quite forensic in the way I plan my holidays, I scope out all reviews, I check map for locations and I want very good value for money, so after investigating everything first this was my number one choice for staying in Launceston for so many reasons; there's an excellent Italian restaurant within walking distance, go for the seafood platter for one and the pasta oh and the Chai is awesome.

A beautiful little place from the outside and cosy, clean rooms from the inside. The team have been very accommodating. I want to shout out the hotel manager, James, who went above and beyond to make our first trip to Tasmania and Launceston easy by being a friendly face who genuinely cares and giving great recommendations! Will stay here again

Great location, price and service. Their receptionist & room introducer staff James was absolutely amazing. Not only that his service was professional and kind, he also considered to suggest places and restaurants to visitors. Highly recommend this hotel, 10/10 to James. I also really liked how they kept the hotel in an ancient style, matching with Tassie style.

We recently stayed at the Audlington Hotel and had a great experience. We were travelling with 2 children and stayed in a very spacious suite - it was really perfect for a family there was a separate bedroom for the children meaning adults did not need to share the same bedtime. The building has an interesting history and the owner was friendly and knows the region so well passing on many helpful travel tips. A great choice to stay here, especially with children.

Read the negative reviews first, they are surprisingly accurate with regard to the Auldington. First the good, the room was clean, the bed wasn’t bad and the garden pleasant and its close into town. We assumed the hotel was renovated but it remained a task incomplete and showed signs of cost cutting. Our room, for example, had an internal wall with missing plaster board and the common areas (e.g. the lounge) looked tired and poorly managed. The management was cold and abrupt in manner and quite rude to my partner in front of other guests. Their checkout is extremely inflexible as others have noted. The claim you will see in management’s response to other reviews is that they observe a strict and inflexible check because they use cleaning contractors, but we saw no evidence of this and other hotels that do use contractors have no issues in this regard. The manager and his off-sider were doing that work, another sign of cost cutting and an indication of understaffing. We cannot recommend this hotel and we note there are many other Hotels in Launceston that do the otherwise very lovely town justice.

Yelp
Stayed in this beautiful heritage property for one night. Everything looked just great until we turned on the heating ... barely warm, which was not good in Launceston's very cold winter period. Reported to the front desk and although they tried everything to get some heat going, the recently installed unit was not co-operating. Extra blankets and a couple of portable fan heaters did take the edge off the chill, but we were still quite cold. They did their best and it's a shame that this rather spoilt our stay. The room itself is quite spacious and well equipped. Very comfy bed, large modern bathroom with oodles of lovely hot water and a nice quiet area of town. Let's hope this problem is sorted before the next guests arrive.
