Aunt Chubby's Luncheonette

We really liked the Huevos Rancheros and Biscuits and Gravy. They were stellar versions of our favorite dishes. The drip coffee and the latte (espresso) were excellent too and would recommend them for the quality. Vibes were very homey and welcoming. Staff were very attentive and managing the weekend rush well. We recently moved to the area and this was the first of many visits.

We stopped by for brunch and tried a mix of their burger, pancakes, and the Chubbys breakfast. Everything tasted delicious and came out fresh. The place was full of energy with a really nice and welcoming vibe. Definitely a spot we’d recommend to anyone looking for a great meal and good atmosphere!

Great breakfast and lunch spot. A staple when we’re visiting family. On this occasion we had a 20 minute wait and some of our party waited outside and two of us ordered coffee from the counter while we waited. Definitely a little cramped by the coffee counter with a door that opens into the restaurant and the hostess stand nearby leading to a bit of confusion and bumping into one another along patrons. But very tasty seasonal latte. Table service was good, we did receive a hot drink instead of an iced drink and two people other than our server came over to clarify things about our order so think we may have had a more inexperienced one but not a deterrent to going back again. Such a cute, feel good spot

First time at Chubby's. Hopewell is such a cute town! Decided to stop after driving past for years, it did not disappoint. Quick service, great food. We went at brunch and had a combination of a burger, pancakes and Chubbys breakfast. The place was packed! Very nice vibe. We would highly recommend and cant wait to try something new next time!

We love aunt chubbys. Everything is fantastic, and fresh. You can absolutely tell that everything is homemade.. down to the syrup in their specialty coffees! PHENOMENAL. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. They are always hustling, then restaurant is always full - no question why! The atmosphere is really cute, and it is always decorated inside depending on the season/holiday. They also do a ton of giving back to the community. They run a food pantry, provide hot meals to those in need, and I’m certain there is more I’m missing at this time. I really love supporting a business that makes our community even greater :) we love hopewell!!

Great cozy spot to have a great breakfast or lunch. Went there today and it was cold and windy and the ground covered in snow. Sat ourselves at a table by a window. It was warm and sunny. I had a chicken mole burrito which was huge and took half if it home. It was just right on the spicyle and very good. D lunch companion had a tuna melt which was also large it was served with fries which is one option. They really enjoyed it. Been several times and will go again. Brought croissants and polenta cake home.

This place is a gem! I've been here a handful of times and each time was honestly incredible. You are greeted with a display of homemade pastries when you first walk in. It's almost impossible not to try something! The wait is never too long and you get seated quickly and served by some of the nicest staff. The French omelet is one of my go to breakfast choices, with some sourdough on the side. Yummy! The best part about this place is how cozy and welcoming it is. Delicious coffee & delicious food, cant beat it!

I enjoyed my meal here - a nice grilled cheese with tomato and a side of fruit salad with really excellent grapes. My dining companions had a lovely croissant bread pudding and breakfast sandwich. Onion rings for the table were also enjoyed. The only miss was the fried chicken sandwich on the daily specials. Service was friendly and the ambiance is half the reason to visit :)

Came to get something to eat while in the vicinity. I had saved this place a few weeks ago when I was in lambertville, NJ but then it was nearly closing time. I was captivated by the chicken sandwich then and I had to try it. It looks good and it tastes good with the coleslaw in the middle of it. The fries were good. Almost reminds you of the McDs fries probably minus the beef oil. The tomato grilled cheese wasn't bad. It did have to get the cheese to melt more as you could still see the slices pretty clearly. The service was slow but fast. I say this as it it was fast to be seated, slow to get the drinks order and food but fast on delivery and clean up! And the ambiance is like walking into some rural, wintery cabin full of people ready to eat. Overall great experience and place to stop by and eat!

Love this spot. Servers are all super sweet and the food was great. Buckwheat pancakes were delicious and I love that they have a lot of other gf options!

I would go here anytime for a solid breakfast/brunch! It's such a cozy spot with homey feel. My friend who has celiac had a variety of options to choose from which was a great touch. She enjoyed the buckwheat pancakes and it's nice to know she has other choices if (and when!) we come back. The huevos rancheros that I had were filling and perfectly balanced. The eggs were also cooked with an amazingly runny egg that added a richness to entire dish. I also loved the latte art and was appreciative that they had non dairy milk options!

The vibes here were absolutely immaculate. Everyone was so incredibly friendly. The food was really good, too. We got the apple pie waffles and the grilled cheese, along with a dirty chai latte and the London fog. We can't wait to come back to the area just for this place!

Busy place around lunchtime but we got seated relatively quickly. All the rushing did give me anxiety though, especially since we were seated near the bathroom whose door doesn't close unless you slam it. Service took a bit to take our order but after they did, our food came quickly. We ordered the chicken sandwich special and a grilled cheese with tomatoes. The chicken sandwich was good, as were the fries but the grilled cheese was not. The cheese didn't melt at all, so it was just a toasted cheese sandwich.

Terrific breakfast cafe... probably the best buckwheat pancakes I've had east of the Mississippi (west - The Butcher's Daughter in West Hollywood). The coffee is equally terrific, curated and sourced from a micro roaster. Service outstanding and friendly. My breakfast partner loved her delicate oatmeal. If I lived in Hopewell, this would be my daily go-to spot. (And their baked goods - which you can get to go - are (once again) equally terrific. (I would also nominate as the best name for a luncheonette!)

Honestly, super disappointed after reading all the amazing reviews. Just didn't hit it out of the park for us. It's certainly a super cute place. Outdoor seating, bakery on the side, and the inside was super cute. Food though was a let down. Got the bread pudding - it was small, the whipped cream was melted when it was brought to me so it was unappetizing and wet. They forgot my sausage until the very end so everyone had finished eating (including me) and they finally brought the sausage. I reminded them a few times too but I guess it took that long to cook once they remembered it. The portions were small and nothing was that great. Prices were surprisingly high for what we got. Their pastries were not bad though. I got some to go. They were fine.

Rustic, homey atmosphere. Quick food and friendly service. Will definitely return. Sausage Patty seemed homemade, not salty and tasted lean. Avocado toast with added eggs was yummy. Toast could have been a bit more crispy, but the toast itself was absolutely heart, grainy and delicious. Also ordered the gingerbread latte, was yummy.

My wife and I were visiting Family in Hopewell and stumbled upon aunt chubby's luncheonette. It was on a Sunday around 1 PM and the place was packed. It was very apparent that this restaurant is a community gathering place. The food was fantastic, the service was exceptional and my wife and I learned what a pork roll was! We wish we could have our own aunt chubby's back in Seattle!

Loved this spot. It's very welcoming and we got a great table by the window. I had the French toast which was massive and I shared it with my daughter with an extra side of bacon. Will try one of the savoury breakfasts next time. We also tried a pastry which was decent and the barista coffee, which I prefer to the regular coffee but is also not the star of the show.

This is an inviting and friendly local eatery that deserves success. The owners and staff are attentive, friendly and make you feel right at home. Then there's the food and the coffee! Both of which were delicious and exactly what I needed in a cold morning. Only small drawback is parking can be tricky. You have to park in the parking lot (if you can call it that) across the street but that doesn't ruin anything. This is a hidden gem. It's excellent and wonderful and I can't wait to go back

Glad I decided to stop by for brunch here. Good options, friendly service, packed tables during rush hours. Everything ordered came out great! One small caveat was that they forgot my order of pancakes and it did take a while for the waitress to notice and making it took even longer; we were all ready to ask for the check and full by the time did come out. Otherwise the meal was perfect. I saw other tables ordering the French toast and I am so tempted to get that next. I really liked the atmosphere and the decor. Seems like a busy local spot and if it's quite busy you know what's up!

Great food (had the chicken tostadas and the BLT). The atmosphere was lively and had people of every age. You can bring dogs to the outdoor seating area too! The food came out quick and the service was attentive. I also love supporting their mission, so I will definitely return

Love this place. We had a great time stopping in and enjoyed everything. We sat outside and the blankets + hot cocoa kept us toasty. Also loved the atmosphere, especially the kids wearing the Kamala gear.

Aunt Chubby's was discovered as a good midpoint meet up location and later we found it had a great breakfast and lunch menu with traditional and fresh plates so we've returned often. It is located off the beaten path in a neighborhood with ample street parking. Service is always friendly, ambience is so-so, that is not great, not bad. I recommend Aunt Chubby's for a reasonable breakfast or lunch. Cards accepted.

My friends and I ordered the same menu. The burgers were well cooked and fries were crispy. I got chai tea latte with oat milk. Really good! The service was nice and they do have free refills on the drink menu. The ambiance was cozy and cute. Only open until 3pm so make sure to get there on time accordingly. I had to give 4 stars just because there was no parking lot. We had to park on the streets but it took awhile and it was pouring outside.. but overall it's located in a cute town and they do have cute shops within the distances so must try! :)

This place was recommended to us and I'm glad it was. Located in Hopewell, NJ this cozy restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, and lunch. There was street parking available despite being quite a busy area and we were seated very quickly. The seating area is quite crammed and not the most comfortable but we were only there for a short period of time. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and the brioche French toast (and a side of bacon, not pictured). Overall both meals were delicious. The gravy in the first dish was a sausage based gravy which is unique but very light in flavor. The sunny side up eggs were fried and complimented the gravy very nicely (of course sausage and eggs go well together). The biscuits (comes with 2) were on the crumbly and dry side but it worked because there was so much gravy sauce. The brioche French toast was amazing, not very sweet which I was so happy about. It was topped with a little bit of powdered sugar and whip cream and served with a decent amount of blueberries and strawberries. Both portions were good, not too big and not too small. The bacon was also really good, 3 pieces for $4 which seems pricey but every restaurant I've been to serves maximum 3 slices on the side. The bacon was straight and crispy and not too salty which is my favorite. Service was really good, definitely on the slower side but the servers were so kind and even gave us a free cup of coffee. The place is also really clean.

New favorite brunch/lunch spot. I can see why it was so busy. It is delicious and everyone is so friendly and nice. Truly service with a smile. You go in and put your name/number on a waitlist at the host stand. They text you to confirm you're on the list. We had about a 30-35 min wait. Well worth it. First impression: it was clean. People were friendly. I love that they have the food pantry. That to me speaks high volumes helping others and the community. Wonderful. Service is fast and friendly. My husband ordered the huevos rancheros, kids has pancakes (pancakes are large and served with 2), fruit cup, bacon. I ordered the brioche French toast which is a weekend only menu item. The vanilla caramel latte was very good. The brioche French toast was so good, it really didn't even need the syrup. So fluffy and perfect. The best and gave me exactly what I was craving sweet, fluffy, goodness. We all really enjoyed. We will be back without a doubt!

LOVE this place. I think I took so long to review to keep the secret to myself. They have a cute little area in the back for outdoor seating and they can accommodate larger parties for when grandma and grandpa join for breakfast. Food is delicious and the staff is lovely. Great coffee, baked goods and toast!

I came here for lunch with my husband after going on a walk in Sourland Mountain Preserve. I had passed the restaurant many times, and was always interested in checking it out. Cozy and charming are definitely two adjectives I would use to describe it. Their commitment to the local community was obvious. Prices were reasonable, food was good, service was good, and they also bake on premises. My only critique is that my roasted veggie bowl (breakfast menu) could have used better seasoning; it was pretty bland. Otherwise, I was a happy visitor to this local spot! I could also envision it being a great place for a small event such as a wedding shower, holiday party, etc.

Exactly what you'd expect your small town luncheonette to be! Super friendly and quick service and classic breakfast options. I ordered an omelette which was good, just know it's priced per ingredient and the pre-set option is just egg + cheddar or gruyere. It's a walk away from the rest of town. Nice, family-friendly spot, will be back.

Upon walking in, you can tell this is a place for the community. The staff recognizes their regulars immediately and greet them as if they were family. That being said, there is no big designated sitting area, so be prepared to stand if there is a wait. Once seated, our waitress arrived immediately to get our drink order. She was very polite and inviting. Not rock your socks service but good nonetheless. As for the food, it's actually pretty good. Not super overly impressive but enjoyable, fulfilling, and I left very satisfied. If you're in the area, and looking for a pleasant place to sit and eat, this is the spot for you.

Great breakfast spot! I thirougjly enjoyed my brioche French toast with 2 eggs over easy. My eggs came out undercooked the first time, but when I pointed this out to the waitress she came back with new eggs and they were perfect!

After a doctor's appointment, we decided to give this place a try. We wanted to try a place where we haven't been to. We got immediately seated upon checking in. The restaurant is big, but at the same time, it isn't small, either. The back of the restaurant is packed with tables, while a long counter sits in the middle. The place is also filled with decorations, from picture frames. Daughter ordered the cold iced brew coffee and said that it was very strong, which is how she liked it. She also ordered the huevos rancheros, which is two over easy eggs, corn tortillas, avocado, cilantro crema, pico de gallo, black beans and house ranchero sauce. She enjoyed the entree a lot. We split our orders in half and we both liked it a lot. I ordered the Thai iced coffee and didn't care for it. I was very disappointed because it didn't taste more like horchata and didn't taste like Thai iced coffee. There was a lot of cinnamon in it. The coffee was very sweet that I had to add some of the ice from daughter's cold brew coffee and poured some of her brew on to my drink hoping that it would be less sweet. It's been two days and it's still sitting in my fridge hoping that it'll go away. LOL. For the entree, I ordered buttermilk pancakes with bananas. It had the fluff factor and it was extremely fluffy and delicious. Lastly, Hubs had Chubby's Burger, which has grass-fed beef, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle on a brioche bun. Caramelized onions, avocado and bacon are extra charge. He swapped out the cheddar and got Swiss cheese with extra red onions and also got onion rings. Hubs said that they took care of the extra red onions part but that the he tomato could be riper. When asking for rare, it came back as medium well but daughter and I thought it was medium rare. He said the bun was nice. There was no ketchup, though. The onion rings were ok and the burger satisfied his craving. We hardly saw the waiter. It was hard to flag the waiter down even though the place wasn't crowded at the time. He never came back so we could ask for a straw or a coffee refill, so we had to flag another waitress down. He only came back when it was time to give us the bill. It took us a while to flag him down to give our orders, also. There was this annoying fly that kept hovering around our table. It kept flying around for a while and then disappeared. Even though this place didn't have a parking lot, it was easy to find a space around the corner. I was stuck between giving it 3 or 4 stars and wanted to give it 3.5 but we felt 3 stars was more appropriate for the lack of service. Will try other restaurants in the area!

My husband and I decided to fulfill a pancakes craving last weekend and checked out this place after reading the great reviews! Highly recommend! I had the blueberry pancakes and my husband got the banana pancakes and both were delicious!! We also got a lemon poppy seed scone and the biscuit which were both delicious! All in all, this place was a great new find for us and we will definitely be back to try their lunch menu! Good service, good food, very down to earth comfortable environment!

Adorable breakfast spot right in the heart of Hopewell. We've driven by this place several times and it's always packed. Finally had a free morning with the family and we were all so excited to try it out. The inside is just what I hoped. Cute mix of different wood tables and seating options, and a nice antique vibe. Walking in, we were immediately seated and I was pleased by the service. A few people came by asking to get our drinks started which surprised me since most dining places have servers who only service their section . It was nice to see the teamwork of employees. We ordered a few pastries which were delicious and a few items off their menu as well. The service was quick considering how busy they were but food was just okay for the price. Most items were $10-$15 which I felt was a bit high compared to our usual breakfast spots. There is also no kids menu. There were some items I wanted to try like biscuits and French toast but they were available weekends only. It's a cute place to go but probably only once in a while for us.

First time going to Aunt Chubby's and we were very pleased with the service, food and ambiance of this restaurant. We were greeted from the moment we opened the door and the place was jumping with customers at counter top seating and multiple tables. Our waitress was fantastic and spot on with anything we needed. The food was absolutely amazing and very enjoyable. I would highly recommend and would enjoy going back if my travels allow.

I was delighted to look at my Yelp Discover list and see Aunt Chubby's. I had never heard of it, but 25 minutes wasn't too far out of the way from Flemington. The reviews blew me away. I was down to try it!! Hopewell is so cute, and this restaurant is tucked into a lovely neighborhood. Definitely get there early on the weekends! The inside is charming and quaint. Within 3 minutes, at least 5 people had said hello to us! Great customer service. Our server Olivia gave great recommendations. She even let me try the ranchero sauce for the breakfast burrito. It wasn't to my taste so I went for savory pancakes. Really yummy! Yes, slight corn taste but I liked it! Note the maple syrup is about an ounce if you pay extra for it. A side note: I thought the prices were fair. You can tell this place has quality food and drinks. They use the best products, so I didn't mind the prices. My Mom couldn't help herself and got the dark chocolate milkshake based on a review someone left (thanks whoever that was!) I believe they use gelato for the milkshakes...incredible. French toast is only for the weekends and it's worth the wait. Creamy with berries, it's a sweet treat. Before you leave, don't miss the pastries!! The polenta cake is moist and reminds me of traveling through the South. The lemon blueberry cake...heavenly!!! Olivia also recommended the almond croissant and that was delicious too. I was so impressed with the teamwork and how many server assistants and bussers there were working together. Every single worker we encountered was polite, friendly, and some even went above and beyond. Best of all, this morning really made my Mom smile and that's what made it so special to me. Indoor and outdoor seating available for the best menu and weekly specials around. The kitchen and eclectic service staff are all top notch. Baristas can whip up your favorite coffee, cappuccino or latte, and the pastry case has something for everyone. I swear by this place. A gem in Hopewell Borough.

What a wonderful find in the quaint little town of Hopewell! Brought my husband and two kids here for breakfast. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming for all kinds of folks, AND the restaurant's commitment to their community via their nonprofit work made this a very special "more than just a meal" meal.

Good scrambled eggs and breakfast options. Pancakes were excellent, different from usual franchise pancakes. Have a cornbread type consistency. Worth trying. Outdoor seating a bonus. Responsive service. Quite busy on weekends, be ready to wait for a seat and finding parking. Skillet potatoes tended to be undercooked (inside being like fresh cut potato)

Aunt Chubby's is as historically beautiful as a movie set for an early 20th Century tale, set in the picturesque Central Jersey town of Hopewell. It has been lovingly restored by the families of Rose and Chubby, who founded this eatery across the street from the old Hopewell Borough train station. It remains a hot stove community center, where locals hang out, pour their own coffee while exchanging the scuttlebutt of the day with neighbors. It is becoming a charitable enterprise and awaits a 501(c)(3) designation. People already volunteer there to help with the cause of providing food for those in need. There is a timelessness to Aunt Chubby's that is captivating. The large windows let the light in softly, creating a subtle glow throughout. Everyone seems aware that the space is special and being a regular comes with responsibility to maintain its magical aire. The breakfast menu certainly plays its part. I found the blueberry pancakes to be very good, the bacon to be amazingly crisp (although 2 slices a bit meagre), and the coffee to be strong and bracing. The entertainment added tremendous value as the servers could not wait to tell the story of Rose & Chubby, and the evolution of their luncheonette into the heart of Hopewell (where she passed away after her family turned part of the dining room into a hospice for her final hours). The place is lovingly maintained, and from my stool at the counter, could see into the kitchen and the entire floorplan in motion. It was quite a pleasant time, and I felt no rush to leave. If there was any drag on the proceedings, it was the price of breakfast. My two buttermilk pancakes with blueberries and two slices of good bacon, coffee & tip was $20. That same meal in most other cool places comes in at least $5 less. When the meal feels like an extravagance it becomes one that I can indulge only infrequently. Otherwise, Aunt Chubby's is cool beans!

A great place to enjoy breakfast or lunch. Attentive service at fair prices. They also do a lot to help alleviate food insecurity in the township through The Chubby's Project--worthy of your support.

Really cool and very local little breakfast/lunch spot hidden in Hopewell NJ. Good food and drinks. Menu isn't huge but has plenty of choices for everyone, plus they had a specials menu. House Lemonade is good. Soup was great, waiter said it comes with toast and what kind did I want, toast with soup? Whatever, bring it on. Prices are a little high for what you get(omelette with ham and cheese $16 is a bit much) pet peeve that drives me insane when I go to any breakfast place is getting "toast" with your breakfast and they give you one small piece of bread sliced in half, unbuttered it seemed as well. (Waiter asked if I want jelly I said sure, then he never brought it, no biggie)Cmon people, put two pieces of toast on the plate. 2 people for breakfast with one cup of soup was $50 before tip. So it's kinda pricey for eggs but it's local and very cool, I'd definitely go back. It's an hour ride from my home so yeah it's worth checking out. Plan ahead, go early as there seems to be a wait sometimes. Super nice staff will make you happy you went. Go check it out!

Had another delicious breakfast this morning from this unassuming little corner cafe. My cheese grits with eggs and spinach greens were delicious and I am usually not a spinach eater. The wife had the eggs Benedict which she enjoyed. The coffee was fresh and the little almond cookie delicacy purchased on the way out was enjoyed as an after dinner snack. All of the staff we encountered were very pleasant and nice making the dining experience even more enjoyable.

One of my favorite breakfast spots in NJ, and maybe the country. A cozy spot that serves up carefully prepared slightly elevated versions of old breakfast favorites, a few surprises, and great coffee.
