The Food
We’ve been eager to try Aunty Lucy’s Burgers ever since a good friend of ours recommended them. We ordered the Accra Burger and The Nima (a limited time offer chicken burger), an order of fries and a coke. Then it was off to a nearby park for a Covid-lockdown take out picnic.
The Nima sandwich was fabulous. The deep fried chicken thigh was hot and crisp and juicy - and not at all oily. And the toppings were super fresh. This is an excellent sandwich that we hope they make a regular menu item.
The Accra Burger has delicious, juicy meat patties and the same fresh toppings. But we were a bit disappointed in the bun. The bottom half was already beginning to disintegrate when we opened the package (and we got the order fresh from the kitchen and opened the take-away only a few minutes later) and even the top half of the bun was challenged to contain the patties and toppings. This burger would benefit from a more robust bun for sure.
In both cases we would order their house made Shito Sauce to spice things up a bit. This is something we would definitely do on our next visit.
The fries were really good; hot and crispy and tasty - not over salted/spiced like so many fries are these days. And the portion is HUGE (could have easily served three, perhaps even four, people) - great value for money there. And while we’d definitely order them again the next time we visit we’ll order the Ghanaian sides: jollof rice and kelewele.
Service
This is a bit hard to evaluate during lockdown. But what we can say is that the person we met when we picked up our order was super friendly. The sense we get is that their space would be very warm and welcoming when dine-in becomes an option again.
Price
Total cost of our very filling lunch (we ate a 2:30 pm and only felt the need to have a light snack at 9:00 pm!) was $37.00, inclusive of taxes and tip - a very fair price for the quality and quantity of the food.
Summary
We’ll be ordering from Aunty Lucy’s again, this time ensuring that we get their Shito sauce to add to the burgers and with traditional Ghanaian side dishes. We look forward to our return visit.
