Sercotel Aura Algeciras

When I reserved this hotel, I wasn’t sure about I chose correctly because of the location, because most visitors to Algeciras are headed to Gibraltar and/or Ceuta/Tangier. And both the ferry terminal and bus station are a 25 minute walk away. But having been down near the port, and seen that it is an area in need of redevelopment, I can happily say this is a much nicer area to stay in. The hotel is a block from the supermarket, and there are restaurants a short walk away. My room on the 2nd floor is large, quiet, and have very good air conditioning. It’s an average budget hotel, so it’s a bit boring in style. But for business, or as a base for day trips, it’s a good choice. The only complaint I have is the refrigerator which is full, and has a QR code that apparently allows purchases. I don’t mind the hotel trying to make money, but please at least allow us a little space to keep a drink or a yoghurt cold. It’s southern Spain. It’s hot. We need refreshments. Like I said, I understand why you have the refrigerator that way, but as a frequent hotel guest, (you are my 7th hotel this trip) only your hotel is this way. Apart from that one annoyance, I enjoyed my stay.

recently booked with this hotel for some days but due to severe stormy weather the local port was operational closed numerous days and therefore i had no chance to reach the place in time, so i contacted the hotel reception to cancel the reservation, but the staff rather took the easy way and the money then to acknowledge the special natural circumstances out of the customers control - i‘ll skip this hotel chain in the future, surely not the „service“ you‘ll expect

Good hotel at a good location. The rooms are well equipped and modern. The breakfast was really excellent. It's very rich and very tasty. Perhaps the parking could be offered free of charge for the hotel guests. Anyway, we had a nice stay for 2 nights.

At 4:45 a.m., my wife and I woke up to a lot of noise from people talking loudly in the corridor. The noise then moved to the next room. The loud noise continued, now with music playing as well. I went there and told them they were making too much noise and that I had a child sleeping in my room. They apologized and turned off the music, but the loud talking and banging on the walls continued. I called reception, and the person who answered said he would look into it. Since the noise didn’t stop, I called again, and he said he was going to "fix it." They moved to the room next to theirs, where the loud music started again and loud speaking continued, along with the sound of balloons being filled and bursting. Because the noise never stopped, I called once more. I said that this was unacceptable because I had paid for a night of rest, but was not getting it, and that I wanted to write a complaint. The only answer I received was "ok." The noise went on until after 8 a.m., and we couldn’t sleep anymore. We also noticed a smell of smoke from some sort of tobacco, which became even stronger when the bathroom vent was on.

One thing that has put us off staying at this hotel in the future (having stayed a number of times over the last few years) is the reception staff. Except for our last visit every time we check-in they do not appear to be very welcoming or even happy in their job. The breakfast is not good and on more than one occasion (we have not bothered since) when we pay for breakfast on arrival we go down for breakfast to be told “you haven’t paid for breakfast “ and have to go to reception to get them to phone the restaurant to confirm we have, very embarrassing in front of other guests. The online check-in is so complicated and time consuming we always just turn up and check in with associated time delays. Lastly there are very few restaurants in the area walkable so sorry we will be cancelling our two future bookings for later this year.

I booked this for my husband and I but when they sent the confirmation it was only for 1 adult. Immediately I emailed them to advise the error. Two more emails sent and still waiting for a response!!!! Tried calling but also useless. When we arrived, explained the situation but they didn't care. Went on to charge 18€ for 2 days breakfast. I'll come onto that in a bit!!!! As soon as we got to the room, I emailed to complain and yes, still waiting for a response. The room.......beds squeaked every time you moved and the breaks didnt work so they moved all over the place. Half a toilet roll which was never replaced. Good job we take our own. Had to use the duvet as a second pillow. Youd think when cleaning the room the chambermaid would notice the lack of loo roll & clearly additional pillows were needed. On the last morning, I woke to a bed bug crawling up my arm. Breakfast...... diabolical. For the amount they charge its a disgrace. The hot food was cold. The milk was on the turn and the pastries were rubbish. Only 3 choice for cereal. The toasters were rubbish. Show less
