25 Best Zoos in the World

"Grown from a two-acre wildlife park founded in 1970 into a sprawling 700-acre conservation and visitor complex, this site includes a wildlife hospital and a lodge opened in 2022. Visitors can hand-feed kangaroos, tour the rescue center behind the scenes, and attend the famous saltwater crocodile presentation in the Crocoseum; members of the founding family remain involved in day-to-day work." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. Wonderful zoo. Animals have great enclosures. Very clean. Staff were friendly. The main cafe was well stocked and running efficiently. Lots of walking of course so a stroller is recommend for toddlers. Being able to hand-feed kangaroos was a highlight. The legendary Steve Irwin's vision and memory will live on as long as this zoo is open

Australia Zoo is by far the best zoo I’ve ever visited. It’s clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed, with stunning natural landscaping that perfectly matches the animal habitats. You can really feel the care and respect put into every corner of the zoo. It’s incredibly family-friendly and kid-friendly. The facilities are outstanding, spacious toilets with room for prams, toddler safety chairs, and small sinks for children to wash their hands independently. There are bins placed everywhere to keep the zoo tidy, free parent rooms throughout the grounds, multiple playgrounds for kids to enjoy, and water refill stations so you can stay hydrated all day. Parking is easy and plentiful, making the whole visit smooth from start to finish. What made this visit even more special was the deep sense of respect and love for wildlife that runs through the whole zoo. We truly respect the legacy of Steve Irwin, his passion, energy and dedication to animals is something we rarely see in this world. His spirit lives on in every part of the zoo, and it’s inspiring to witness how his vision continues to educate, protect, and connect people with wildlife. A beautiful, meaningful, and unforgettable experience. Highly recommend for families, nature lovers and anyone who wants to see animals treated with kindness and care.

Fantastic day out. Beautiful Zoo. The African part was the highlight then the bird & crocodile show. Very clean park, worth every cent for a full day out. Can take your own picnic and plenty of table areas to use and many resting seats around park.

Google
This was a zoo trip of a lifetime, we are from Canada. Highly recommend if you can, book the guided golf cart $600. This ensures you see everything, the zookeeper who takes you around exploring everything explains everything. Our guide was an absolute gem. The tour is 11am to close . This and my fishing trip were the only things I enjoyed in Australia.

Google
Really enjoyed the 5 hours we spent here up close with iconic Australian wildlife with Asian and African wildlife that you could probably view in any zoo but we especially came to see the crocodiles and alligators. Outstanding show, nostalgic videos of Steve Irwin on monitors all over the park next to each well kept enclosures, with his signature enthusiasm and passion for the conservation of all wildlife. Well worth the visit. Plenty of parking. Cafes, toilets and drinking fountains every 200m or so. I would imagine it would be extremely warm if you visit in summer and there is a kids water playground but I’m not sure if it would be big enough if it was busy. Two shops are also there for souvenirs, snacks or sunscreen etc.

I love Australia Zoo. It feels like travelling, like I visit Asia and Africa. I love how it is managed. Very beautiful, big enclosures. All area is clean and well looked after. All animals are healthy and happy. If something is going wrong, they are great vet doctors in the Wildlife Hospital. Wildlife love the zoo too. Heaps of entertainment for kids. Amazing educational and conservation programs.

Google
I'm not a zoo visitor, but this was on my list purely because of Steve Irwin! This zoo is INCREDIBLE We arrived early and went anti clockwise around, ended up at the tiger show perfect timing! Then around a bit and back to see the elephants. Really cool! The day rained off and on so I recommend a rain jacket the crowds seemed quiet which was ideal for us! Water refill stations everywhere, great to get lots of steps in and the paths are also very accessible. The animals, just WOW! A very special day! We cannot take a place this incredible for granted or the beautiful animals that are here. It's a huge operation, so much time, money and energy is running in this place and you can see it. Didn't eat anything in the cafes, the gift stores were very reasonable priced and had a fantastic selection for everyone! I have so many photos!! I couldn't believe how close we were to some... the Kangaroos and Lemurs 😍🙌 very grateful to have visited this amazing place where you can see the animals are cared for well! The signage and information is amazing too!

Just an awesome place to spend a day. This zoo has come such a long way since it's opening. So good we're now season ticket holders. Don't forget the Crocodile Hunter Lodge if you need to spend the night - stupendous!

Yelp
I'm very ambivalent about zoos overall because I am not a fan of caged animals in general. However, this is more like an animal park with open areas that resemble their native habitat. There is also a lot of conservation work that goes on in this zoo. The monies generated by the zoo fund these projects. That said, I got to see a lot of fascinating animals that are native to Australia. Of course, the koalas are so darn cute. They don't really do anything other than sit in their little branch, feed on the eucalyptus occasionally, and poop (they apparently do that even while they sleep). Kangaroos and other marsupials were also at the top of my list to see. Nature is just amazing. I won't go through all the critters, but the variety was impressive. Be sure to visit the Africa exhibit and the bird feeding shows. I'll share some logistics. It's a big place, so expect to walk a lot. Bring a hat and sunscreen. Bring water. You can even bring your own food, but they have multiple eateries throughout. If you are staying in downtown Brisbane, there's a cheap bus that goes directly there. It was the most straightforward and cheapest option. The bus was clean and the ride was enjoyable.

Yelp
This is absolutely the most beautiful Zoo I have ever been too! So clean and so many beautiful animals! I just wished we could have pet the Giraffe and taken pix with them but unfortunately we missed the cut off time! If ever in Australia you must visit!

Yelp
For all you zoo lovers...this is a must-do zoo!!! A note to everyone: if you love animals, learning about wildlife, the preservation of wildlife, etc., then you'll love this zoo, especially since the wildlife warriors make it their mission to "spread the word." Up front, I highly recommend visiting this zoo if you are planning a visit to Australia. So, I kept running it through my head on what I wanted to say in my review about this zoo. I simply can't seem to find the words and/or don't know where to start. I'll try by just speaking from the heart... Visiting Australia is something I always wanted to do in general and we love zoos. When I/we started asking ourselves in the planning stage what it is we really wanted to do...the Australia Zoo was at the top of the list. There is a lot of unique wildlife in Australia and this zoo ensures you not only see it, but you are well-educated about it. Once we decided to visit the zoo and did our research, we literally planned our entire visit to Australia around the Zoo. I am so happy we did instead of just popping in for a day or two like we would have with any other zoo. We knew in advance that we wanted to do animal encounters, but they only happen on certain days & times. Initially, we only set our sights on visiting for 2 days, but that turned into 5 days. For us, it was absolutely amazing, we never got bored and we left wanting more!!! We ended up spreading out our encounters over the course of 3 days so we wouldn't be rushed. This also allowed us to fit in the shows and/or talks that we wanted to attend and just take our time. Moreover, we ended up with one full day of just taking our time to walk about the zoo without any commitments to just enjoy it all. The last day was to revisit things we wanted to see again, and thank the staff that was so wonderful to us during our visit. I would recommend to anyone visiting the zoo for the first time to spend at least 2 full days to truly enjoy it. If you want to do animal encounters, then add a day (or 2 depending on the encounters). The zoo is huge...I mean HUGE! Everywhere you look there is something! In addition, due to the wonderful fauna & flora, the birds and other critters that have found a sanctuary living at the zoo are fantastic as well. In my opinion, if you only spend a day then you are surely going to miss something. Not all zoos are equal and this zoo is just incredible for any and all ages...you just need to experience it for yourself! Parking at the zoo is free and there is more than ample parking. I feel as though the entry fees, goods, food, souvenirs, etc. are all priced fair. The zoo is exceptionally clean beyond words...it's extraordinary really. Note: During our 5 days at the zoo, we got to know some of the staff due to various encounters, dealings, and shopping. I can't begin to tell you how friendly the staff was/is. They are truly remarkable people and really made the difference during our visit. We only had one negative encounter with a staff member on our 5th day of entry at the entry point outside the zoo, but we knew this wasn't the norm from previously visiting in the days prior. Most of the folks we had an interaction with at Guest Services treated us like they had known us forever--it was lovely. On that note, I'd like to give a big shout-out to Molly, Stacey, Toni, Josh, and Jules for ensuring our visit was top-notch and special, we really appreciate it...Thank you!!! The moment we drove away from the zoo on our last day of visiting we started missing it. We truly hope to go back one day...

Yelp
Here from the States with four traveling friends. The day we visited it was raining pretty constantly but we came prepared with umbrellas and ponchos. The zoo is beautifully landscaped. It was lush and filled with native plants which I had a great time learning about. Many of the thoroughfare's were underwater but we had a great day. We even fed the roos! The wallabies were very shy and wouldn't come near despite the enticement of a snack. Loved Bindi's island and all the lemurs that we walked amongst. We headed to the Crocosseum for the Wildlife Warrior Show. Two of my friends visited last year and didn't have the privilege to see the Irwin's so imagine the thrill when Robert and Chandler were called out. We were starstruck. Despite the rain it was an amazing experience. Even in the rain many of the shows were downscaled and we felt like it was a VIP experience.

Yelp
I've been to Zoos all over the world and this is my favorite zoo by far. The crocoseum is awesome and the show was great. They had Vegan options at the cafe even and we even got to pet some koalas and kangaroos. Definitely worth the visit if you are in Brisbane and have a full day!

Yelp
Visiting the Australia Zoo was a bucket list item for my family and I. With that being said, we did kick it up a notch and went with the Platinum Experience. We'll be paying for that for a while, financially, but the memories will last a lifetime. We had a day-long golf cart guided tour, personal photographer, various animal experiences at every stop that you can't get with the general admission ticket, and a behind the scenes tour of the animal hospital. Service was amazing on all fronts. I honestly can't put more to words. Thank you to the entire Irwin family and Australia Zoo staff for all that you do and have done as Wildlife Warriors.

Larry M.

Yelp
One of the best zoo experiences I've ever had. We tried to book the platinum experience a month in advanced but it was already sold out. So we built our own by choosing the 'Hire a Caddy' and scheduling as many animal encounters as we could in one day. Steve was very helpful with booking animal experiences.

Yelp
Crikey! This is a must see when in Australia. This is the famous Steve Irwin's zoo. Packed with exhibits and beautifully cared for animals. The staff is enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. Everyone working there seems to be having fun. Speaking of fun, this place was a blast. We easily spent 4 hours there and probably could have done more if it weren't for the jet lag. The zoo has 5 main areas that you can either walk to (which we did because we had to burn off some extra calories lol) or you can take a shuttle which runs about every 10min. Tip: don't miss the noon show at the Crocosium. Graham the 14ft salt water croc that almost killed Steve and his partner many years ago is the star of the show. Yes these are wild animals and still have a killer instinct but so beautiful to see. I really love their conservation efforts and they really do care about the animals. Highlight of our trip so far!

Yelp
This place was actually surprisingly good, though when I was last here it was shortly after the passing of Steve Irwin, so you did sort of feel that event somewhat. However, it was still a pretty good experience, and the animals, despite being trained, are clearly well respected, as opposed to some places where the treatment was nothing short of appalling. So, this place was actually pretty good, and it certainly well worth visiting.

Brian W.

Yelp
Surreal experience. For a relatively small admission fee you get the whole experience. Pet and walk amongst kangaroos at will, touch and feel koalas, catch a croc or bird show in the amphitheater, this place has it all. Very clean and well kept as well, shuttle services to get back from the far end of the zoo back to parking.

Yelp
It's really lovely how they've gone about the design here. The enclosures are lovely, and the shows were very educating. They are always pushing for people to be the change, not the animals' nature. It's really a great message everywhere. If you haven't already, I highly recommend a tour of the Animal Hospital. It truly embodies who Steven Irwin and his mother were, and is such a touching place to be. The vets, you can tell, have their whole hearts into it and the guides are kind and embody what he would have wanted. Seeing how they go about the process of healing wild animals and re-releasing them back into the wild is astonishing. You can tell everything here is done from the heart. How amazing these people have kept his dreams alive.

Yelp
(Platinum Tour review!!) This was BY FAR the coolest zoo experience I have ever had! As a kid, I always looked up to Steve Irwin and it was a dream of mine to visit this zoo. I flew across the world to see this amazing place and to make the trip memorable, we splurged on the Platinum Tour. There wasn't much information on this tour (it's thousands of dollars so I understand people aren't doing this everyday) so we did it without knowing exactly what we were doing besides the itinerary they gave us. We were truly treated like VIP on this tour. We didn't share the tour with anyone else and we had our own personal tour guide and golf cart for the entire day (which was wonderful considering the heat had us Americans sweating)! Here is exactly what we got during the Platinum Tour: -one on one with zookeepers to ask any questions we had -golf cart throughout the zoo -personal photographer -VIP seating for the crocodile show -UNLIMITED food and beverage whenever we wanted from whichever stands we chose from -walked with a tiger -went onto lemur island and fed them -hung out with tortoises -held a koala -held a python -Pet a wombat -fed an echidna -hung out with dingos -met a rhino -visited the animal hospital and saw them work on a hawk, I got to legally name a koala, and we visited the restricted koala area -received a bag full of goodies -received a thumb drive of all of our photos (didn't work so they sent us a disc of our photos overseas) This was truly an amazing experience and I highly recommend this to everyone (save your money)! It's totally worth it. Also, most of the proceeds of the tour go to tiger conservation! This is truly a lovely zoo no matter what you do. It's large, clean, and the animals are well taken care of. The Irwin family is doing a phenomenal job along with everyone who works there and keeps this place beautiful with happy animals. When I visit Australia again, I will do this tour a second time (and hopefully meet the Irwins).

Yelp
We spent a day at the zoo and took advantage of the platinum package. Our guide was terrific as were all the handlers at each exhibit. The animal encounters were a lot of fun and what we expected. However for lunch we were handed a menu and told to pick a food court Item and at lunchtime we were dropped off at the food court. The lunch was horrible! I understand you don't go to the zoo for the food but it would have been a much more pleasant experience if we weren't hungry all afternoon. I noticed in a previous review they were raving about the wonderful lunch they received of fresh fruit, sandwiches and dessert! We got frozen pizza and a wilted salad in a box! The lunch was far from appropriate considering how much you charge for the platinum package!

Yelp
Great shows, great staff. Only disappointment was multiple locations were closed for renovations.

Yelp
Very informative sanctuary, friendly staff and entertaining / educational shows. I love how interactive this place is, you can feed the kangaroos and just hang out with them in their enclosure. Highly recommend coming to Australia Zoo if you are in the area.

Yelp
This was the best zoo I have ever visited in my life! This was a very large zoo with lots of animals. It was very clean. They had lots of workers walking around to answer questions or assist. We were able to take pictures with Koala's. They also had the option to take pictures with snakes and birds. We were able to feed Kangaroos which was amazing. We also saw the Croc show and it was amazing. They have beautiful photos of Steve Erwin around the zoo as well. They also have a cafe with multiple food items, drinks and coffee. They have a nice gift shop as well. I will defiantly need to visit this zoo again!

Yelp
Kangaroos AND Koalas? You better bet they have these little guys! Where else could you encounter these animals AND feel the presence of Steve Irwin's adventurous spirit? This place is it! (: I really enjoyed my visit here. As any zoo or park would have, they provide a map of the place listed with detailed areas and shows! They had an area dedicated to the Irwin family, and the great Steve Irwin. From timelines, to photos, and more, you really get a glimpse of who this guy really was. I loved being able to feed the red kangaroos! They sell these small bags for $2 each (you can totally share a bag between two people, and be able to get good photo opts of the little creatures eating out of your palms, PROMISE. I'm a camera whore and I still had a good amount left before we were done for the day.) We also got to take a photo WITH a koala! I got to hold the little guy! :D What realllllly got me was when some of the employees would tell family stories about Steve and some of the animals. ): I still remember one in particular.. but its seems much too long to include in this review, so feel free to compliment/message me if you want to hear it! (: Steve's wife and daughter were also here the day I visited, if I purchased I think it was $10? worth or merchandise, I would've gotten the chance to meet them, get a photo with them, and a signature. I didn't really want anything.. ): (I regret not getting anything! bahhhhhhhhhh!) so we didn't get to meet them. anywayssss, they have allll sorts of animals here! I think my favorites include (besides the obvious koalas, and kangaroos!) the wombats, red pandas, and the tazmanian devils! If you're ever in Queensland and have an extra day to spare, spend it here! (:

Yelp
Absolutely the best zoo in the world! Zoo doesn't really describe this place, because it is more of a wildlife sactuary. The facility is huge and you honestly could spend a week here, there is so much to do and see. If you plan to go, which I highly recommend you do, make sure you get there at the start of the day!

Yelp
The Australia Zoo -- started by Steve Iriwn's dad and has many MANY references of the Irwin family around including a memorial to Steve. This place was a ton of fun to go to, even on a wet, rainy day. There were a ton of schools who brought their classes out. Like any zoo, it's got its specialty animals, shows, and funky cafeteria that will charge you a little extra for eating there. The highlights for me of this place are the Irwin family sculpture, the kangaroo feeding/petting areas, the koala petting area, and crocodile show. They also have lizards, snakes, wombats, elephants, firefoxes (red pandas who wouldn't come out to say hi), birds, and other marsupials. I would caution one going to the kanga petting areas on a rainy day -- INFESTED WITH MOSQUITOS because it's a marshy area prone to collecting even more moisture. This did not deter from my experience. I was on such a high petting kangaroos with little joeys in their pouches that I was set for life. Koalas, as any visitor would tell you, are cranky, ornery little things. They mostly just want to cling to their eucalyptus trees, eat, and sleep. So they aren't these cuddly little bears that you're imagining. They are still soft and if you scan reach them are available to be pet. I would recommend this as a "must" for anyone visiting the area.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Thank you so much Australia Zoo, for a magnificent day. it was my 60th birthday, and it was incredibly special to feed Daisy and Percy the otters. The zoo is spotless, with happy healthy animals loving life. Our photos with a koala were lost, and the staff went out of their way to have more taken, which will always be special to us. Wonderful place, good food, beautiful grounds, friendly staff & amazing memories. Thank you so much Australia Zoo.

Yelp
We visited the Australia Zoo on a sporadically rainy afternoon. We alternated between downpour and sun but there were plenty of covered areas to duck under while waiting for the rain cloud to pass. Despite ending up a bit wet by the end of the afternoon, I really enjoyed our afternoon at the Australia Zoo. We arrived later in the day than expected so our time was cut a little short. Our first order of business was to catch the remainder of the crocodile show that was going on. We were fortunate that it wasn't a busy day so there was plenty of viewing room when we arrived part way through the show. It was informative and entertaining. After the show we explored in the rain. It was a little disappointing that there were several exhibit areas with no animals. The areas that did have animals were large and seemed well done. We missed out on a section of the park due to them starting to sweep people out in preparation for closing. In retrospect we should have arrived earlier or gone to those parts first. The highlight was definitely Roo Haven. I'm not sure how long we spent there but it was far and away the best part. You enter an area where kangaroos and wallabies are running free. They can approach you, you can feed them, there are no fences keeping you from interacting except for a couple spots that are designated as their safe space. I really couldn't stop smiling after spending time here. 4.5 stars.

Yelp
It's been a dream of mine since I was a little girl to move to Australia and work at the Australia Zoo (I live in the USA). Well, I'm 46 now and finally made the trip. We shelled out quite a bit of money to get the full experience- the platinum package. We booked it months in advance since they don't offer it every day and have to coordinate with a bunch of zookeepers to meet and talk with us about various animals. It was the best day of my life (besides my children's births and my wedding)! We had "experiences" with a koala, tortoise, white rhino, wombat, meerkats, echidna, Komodo dragon, binturong, black headed snake, macaw, giraffe & kangaroos. We were able to pet each animal, learned about their care & conservation and had professional pictures taken by our incredible tour guide, Julie, who also drove us around on a golf cart the whole day. We also had vip passes to the crocodile show and got to tour the wildlife hospital. It was truly amazing! We also booked a night at The Crocodile Hunter Lodge which was beautiful and got to see more kangaroos, emu and koalas since they live on the property. The next day we returned to the zoo so we could see some of the animals we missed and the tickets came with staying at the Lodge. So glad we went back, got to see the elephants playing in their pool and got to revisit some of our favorites. This is definitely the nicest zoo I've ever been to and I think I've seen a decent amount. They do so much for animal conservation and I got choked up a few times hearing stories about Steve Irwin.

Yelp
We enjoyed our visit immensely, and were only disappointed that we didn't set aside a second day to visit. The Australia Zoo does an amazing job treating each animal as an individual, with likes and dislikes. I've never seen a zoo that assist with so much interaction with the animals. We walked a wombat, fed a wallaby, rested with a roo, cuddled a koala, and listened to birds in the aviary. My friend is blind and enjoyed the experience every bit as much. The keepers were knowledgeable and respectful of the animals, giving advice on what to do and what not to do to make the experience pleasant for the animals. Go if you can!

Yelp
Hartsdale, New York 461263 Pending review Rather Good Exhibition of Australia Fauna Review of: Australia Zoo 1-Day or 2-Day Admission Ticket While some native Australian animals are on display, many are not. Visitors can get up close to kangaroos if they buy Roo Food for $3 AUSD. The crocodiles and lace lizards are nice. We had time for only the crocodile show, which was entertaining despite its staging. The highlight of the trip was getting to hold a koala. Just be advised there is a great deal of false advertising and upselling in the animal photos. We tried to buy a photo burned to a disk for $9.95 and were told we had to buy an 8x10 glossy for $27.95 and that would come with a disk and small photo. It came with neither. We were also told we could download our photo, and this also was untrue because there was no website listed on the receipt. Still, this could be considered a charitable gift to maintain Steve Irwin's zoo and its animals, half of which come from Africa, India, and South America. Our only regret was that we had very limited time on this tour, so we could visit only a small portion of the zoo and saw only the crocodile show. Show less

Yelp
This place was amazing! I wish I had more than one day here! Came from California and got to see Steve Irwin's legacy! They even had a ton of fun things to do with my 1.5 year old!

Yelp
For all the zoos I have been to, Australia zoo is by far the most enjoyable All the staff were friendly and very informative. You can see how much passion everyone has The only let down was the croc show. The birds where amazing but I expected more from the croc feeding show The park is very clean and enclosures perfect for each animal. Hope to bring our son back in a few years

Yelp
Just weeks before coming to Australia, I wanted to climb the Story Bridge, go to Queen Street Mall, and feed the kangaroos. I could've visited Sydney's Taronga to feed the Roos and pet the koala, but I think I made the better decision to go to Queensland own, Australia Zoo in Beerwah, Queensland. When my Auntie was driving me to the Australia Zoo, I saw that we entered a specially name road: Steve Irwin Way. Even before entering the parking lot and the zoo, I felt too honored to be entering legendary Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. We all know him and we know him for the great journey he shared with us. He scared us from time to time, but all he wants us to do is appreciate life with the animals. The main parking lot seems quite small, but there is an overflow parking next door. Parking is free. Admission is $59 AUD. There are multiple packages that you can purchase from. My Auntie purchased a visit to the Animal Hospital for $2. All proceeds go to the wildlife conservation. When we entered, we saw some of the animal staff carrying around some creatures including my favorite, a koala. When I saw a picture of Legendary Dodger Announcer, Vin Scully, holding a koala, I had to take a photo with one. Geez, these things sleep for 19 hours and eat eucalyptus. Why can't I do that? Except eat the eucalyptus. While the highlight of the park are the crocodiles, you can't get near them, unless its the baby ones. As an adult, you'll turn into a kid again when you start petting the goats, sheep, and my favorite, the kangaroos. You can purchase feed for the Roos and feed as many as you want. I like to feed the lazy Roos that are just simply laying down. These Roos are small. So, no worries about a huge kangaroo taking you in the Roos' pouch or going boxing with one. These Roos may be a pest, but it is the animal of Australia. The Australia Zoo may look small, but if I heard correctly there is a lot of land still waiting to be used. The Africa Section still looks new with some giraffes and rhinos. Glad that there is a tram on the premises when the zoo expands. The one area of the zoo that you shouldn't miss is the live show at the Crocoseum. You'll see birds, native to Australia, fly and do their tricks. Almost reminds me of Universal Studios Animal Actors. The main segment of The Crocoseum are the crocodiles. The staff are well trained and are living the motto of Steve Irwin. I get nervous when the are feeding the crocs...Crickey! I am honored to visit the Australia Zoo. I do hope when anyone visits Australia, do make a stop over to Queensland. Sydney is very touristy, but there are some places you'll need to pay a visit to. I know now why Steve Irwin wanted us to pass his message to live with the animals. Although his passing was unexpected, we all got a lit bit of Crickey in us to do some animal adventures. You think I write too much? Well, you can call me a Yelp-O-Holic!

Yelp
Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oy! Oy! Oy! The zoo is big, and spans a large number pf species. The facilities are clean and well organized, and the staff is knowledgable and friendly. The mid-day Croc show is a CAN'T MISS! Seriously, it's why you are there, and the show is very well orchestrated. The $60 entry fee is a bargain with what the zoo has to offer. We spent 5 hours there and didn't even see it all - we only left because is was hot - blazingly hot! The only reason this is a four star review instead of five is for two reasons; terrible concession food and several closed exhibits. There are no healthy dining options, and the fried food served is bland and overpriced. Don't expect to eat well. Additionally, several of the exhibits we wanted to see were closed, or the animals were on "holiday" as started by the signs. Otherwise, this is a great way to spend the day, and I'd go back again.

Yelp
Sure the price is a little steep, it's equivalent to a day at Disney for goodness sake. My advice to you is just to save the money that you'd be spending at all of the other zoos around Australia, and put it towards going to Australia Zoo. I loved it. It took up a whole entire day, there is so much to see and so many shows. It's large, you're gunna do a bit of walking. And they have shops everywhere! If you are getting hungry, have no fear, somewhere around the corner is some type of eatery! I was lucky enough to see both Bindi & Robert. (I went during school holidays time.) Word to the wise: do not go and eat after the main 12 p.m. Warriors Show at the Crocoseum. Everyone will be doing that, and the lines will get anyone frustrated. Just wait half an hour til it dies down and I promise, you'll be so grateful that you did. It's like a theme park for animals, without any rides. I could not get over how expansive this zoo is. You can see the effort to protect wildlife, and some of the products are Australian made (that's always a plus!). If you do get tired of walking, there is even a shuttle that can take you around. Check their opening/closing times and make a day of it! It's #1 on my list of zoo's. It's a lovely way to spend the day. #worthit

Yelp
Possibly the best Zoo in south east Queensland. There are however no primates at this zoo, so if monkey and apes float your boat, Alma Park is probably better. They do however have a wide selection of native and foreign species. Their African section has Giraffes, Zebras, and a small herd of endangered White Rhinos. Their South East Asian collection includes Tigers, Red Panda, Binturongs, Otters and Asian Elephants. There's a wide range of large birds including cassowary and emus, as well as birds of prey and a massive walk in rainforest aviary and a wetlands area with Brolgas and Jabiru. There are two big fields where you can feed kangaroos, and a petting zoo are with pigs goats and sheep. We didn't see any shows at the Crocoseum but I'm sure they're entertaining. They have a big snake house with many dangerous serpents, the Taipan being a highlight. They also have a Komodo Dragon near the entrance. The surrounds are nice and clean, the gardens are all nice and well tended, and the animals look super happy and healthy. They're constantly expanding and it looks like a cheetah field is next!

Yelp
The Australian zoo was great. My partner and I kept getting lost so missed the first few shows. But that was okay as there where so many amazing animals to see. The big 12:30 show was very good. The birds flying around was pretty spectacular though I still think they can not beat the bird show at Taronga zoo. However the croc show was great. The staff are super friendly and the park is so big that we took 5 hours to look at the entire place without really taking up rest points other than at the 12:30 show and when we sat of the shuttle. This zoo has animals from all over the world - anything from beautiful giraffes to all kinds of snakes to the traditional koala and kangaroos. We really enjoyed our day. The only minus are the food and beverage options. It was your typical nasty grubby fast food that was very overpriced. So bring your own lunch I say.

Yelp
Visiting Australia I had to visit the Steve Irwin Zoo! Hands down this was the best zoo I have ever been to!! The place was so nice and clean. Very organized and a fun atmosphere. All the staff and zookeepers were so friendly and approachable. I felt that the zookeepers actually love their job and wanted to share their knowledge and joy for the animals. It was an amazing experience overall. It was amazing to see many animals up close and pet them!! I even got to pet and hold a koala for $25 which was the best experience of my life! I even got a 8x11 photo with the sweet koala. I recommend having this experience, I basically had happy tears!! I also loved that when viewing the other animals they seems much closer than any other zoo I have been to in San Diego. Giving you that perfect distance so you are not squinting your eyes or needing binoculars to look closely at an animal. I honestly can't wait till the day I can come back and visit this zoo! It was one of my favorite parts of my vacation. The bird and crocodile show was amazing as well!! Seeing what Steve Irwin started is amazing! Also walking and petting the kangaroos was an unforgettable moment!

Yelp
The Australia Zoo is a fun place to spend a day outdoors. In the Zoo you can meet crocs, as well as roos and koalas. The Zoo is nice and tidy and the animals have a lot of free space to hopp around. There are many shows throughout the day and you can see the wild crocs jump and eat and do fun stuff as well as you can pet a kangaroo for the first time in your life or give a cute koala a cuddle. The stuff is friendly and helpfull - its a childfriendly place but adults love to hang out there too! I can highly recommend this place to backpackers, tourists and locals :)

Yelp
Australia Zoo is amazing - so well thought out in terms of layout and the enclosures are huge! Prices are a little steep, but if you get there early you can def see everything you want. Shuttle bus runs about every 10 mins from about 10 different drop off zones around the park - I would recommend these as the walking can be quite strenuous in the Qld heat. The 12pm show at the main arena is fantastic and well worth the visit... they have amazing animal education shows and I was well impressed with the amount of great material that was covered and how well the animals interacted with the trainers. My favourite thing of the day was the elephant feeding, where you can feed the elephants and have your picture taken.. this was a great experience... FOOD! Unlike many other theme parks - the Food here is the best selection I've seen! There is something for everyone - burgers, sandwiches, cakes, salads, hot food, Vego options, healthy options.... it's not your typical hot chips and hot dogs kind of place.. there is real food and fantastic selections for all. Overall I love my day there - and recommend it to anyone who is interested in seeing animals up close and in a real conservation park.

Yelp
I always dreamed of coming here and they don't have as many animals as other zoos but this zoo caters to the animals. They all seemed happy which in other zoos animals seem stressed. All the cages were large and had room to get away from people which was so nice to see. They have memorials for Steve all over the zoo which is so heart breaking. It's everything I thought it would be and then some !

Yelp
A great family day out. We were lucky enough to gave Terri and the children host the show at the crocoseum. Was very impressed with the bird show. I think Steve Irwin started something worthwhile here, a bit commercial, but it's a business too !

Yelp
We took the train to Beerwah station. It is a fairly long train ride from Brisbane CBD, with a transfer at Caboolture. From the Beerwah station there was a waiting van to take us from there to the zoo. The zoo has large footprint in area, with a shuttle to take you around to different areas. We did have to wait a while for the shuttle to bring us back from the African section at the very end of the park, but no other complaints. If you needed it, they do have mobility scooters available to hire for the day. I imagine you would have to charge them up at some point. This is a large zoo, as it doubles as an animal sanctuary, and has large areas for all of the animals to roam in. The animals seem very well cared for, and the workers are very friendly. Enjoyed the various demonstrations and talks they had. For a price, I believe $25-35 each, we each got to hold a koala for pictures. We also got a picture of us holding an iguana, this was only $10 I believe. They do have a food court attached to the Crocaseum, which you will obviously want to be at for their daily show. The food prices were surprisingly not too bad, and I had a respectable steak pie to hold me over. We had a nice day there, but we didn't get to stay until the end, because to get back you have to leave before the park closes. The last van back to Beerwah leaves very early, but there is also a bus that leaves later than that, and the bus makes multiple stops along the way to Caboolture, where we took the train back to the CBD. Despite leaving early, we got to see everything except for the animal hospital. Would highly recommend a visit.

Yelp
A short drive from Brisbane, the zoo had many animals, exhibits and presentations. The food court offers a fair selection and reasonable prices for a tourist attraction. The presentations are informative and interesting. The facilities are well maintained and there is a shuttle bus to get you around the park. Thew is a small kids zoo whet you can feed animals. They had pigs, sheep and goats on my last visit. The are a jumping Castle and another rode for kids to enjoy. Sometimes I just like to take the kids up there as a nice spot for a picnic and a play. A great family experience.

Yelp
Love Australia Zoo! I bought an annual pass in September and I've been so many times already! Really worth it if you live in the area

Yelp
Great zoo, it was a decent ride for us as we were in the Gold Coast, so a good 150kms - but well worth the trip.

Ed G.

Yelp
We had a private tour given by Erin and Elle. Very nice and professional young ladies who gave us a thorough tour of all of the attractions. They were knowledgeable of all the animals and gave us insight of the Steve Irwin dream. I would highly recommend this tour and if you can get these two young ladies

Yelp
I'm so glad I made a trip to the Australian Zoo. Its probably the best zoo I've been to. It's pretty neat that this zoo allow guests to go into certain habitats and interact with the animals. It was quite exciting getting to feed and pet the kangaroos and koalas. I really wanted to pet the new cubs but we ran out of time. But it was still nice to see other guests interact with the new cubs. They are even cuter in real life. The food selection here was quite large and the quality of the foods were also pretty good. A lot better than some of the zoo or parks that I've been to. A couple of my friends got to meet Bindi-Steve Irwin's daughter. I'm a little jealous that I missed out because they said she was down to earth and friendly.

Yelp
This is a cross between a normal zoo (where you see animals and reptiles etc from outside their enclosure) and a animal sanctuary (where you can touch and pat the animals). It's by far the best zoo that I have been to - live performance to entertain the kids, wonder around and touch the animals. A great place for interactive experience. I am a fan!

Yelp
We've been to dozens of zoos around the world and this is, without question, our favourite. The animals have spectacular enclosures. Many of the larger animals (e.g. elephants, rhinos, tigers) have even bigger "night enclosures" that they walk to and from each night/morning. The keepers seem very happy and genuinely care about the park and the animals. One perk of this zoo is (with some advanced planning and some cash) you can arrange an encounter with your favorite animal. They offer budget encounters (e.g., feed an echidna) and more elaborate tour packages, like the Platinum tour, during which you get a personal tour guide and get to meet many different animals throughout the course of a day. They also have a first rate animal hospital that helps care for injured wildlife. The hospital operates on donations - so if you're visiting or looking for a worthy cause, this is definitely one!

Yelp
Loved this zoo! The animals were free to move and we felt like we were apart of their habitat. We just happened to go on Steve Irwin day Nov 15. Terry, Bindi and Robert put on a show and tribute to Steve, it was very nice. We got a picture holding a koala, petted dozens of kangaroos!
