Worst restaurant experience of my life and I don’t recommend Aux Trois Maillets to anyone!
I had booked a cabaret show and dinner for me and my two friends to celebrate my birthday. We were very excited and eager to experience something special on our first night in Paris. Unfortunately, we were left with possibly the worst customer service we have ever experienced.
We arrived to the restaurant at 9 pm for our reservation. First we were completely neglected upon arrival and no one seemed to notice or care that we were there. Soon we were escorted downstairs since we were told that’s where the cabaret was to be held. We were then received by two waitresses. They asked us to give them our coats, but since I was only wearing a blazer, I didn’t want to give it away. They kept on insisting, and when I said “What if I’ll be cold?” they said “You won’t be”..so we had to give up our coats against our will. This was the first thing that made us suspicious. Then we were asked to pay for the show in advance, which we did, for 20€ per person.
Then we were taken to the cabaret room, and we could instantly see it would be a very empty night. We were seated right next to the stage and told that they were the best seats. We ordered a bottle of wine which was very sweet and bland, and since they opened it in the kitchen I couldn’t tell if it was blended with water or juice. It certainly tasted so.
We ordered the Salmon with spices, which turned out not spicy at all, quite the opposite: there was not so much as salt added, and the big oven-cooked fillet was totally raw on the inside. When we complained, they only offered to make us new plates, but the food was not good to begin with so we refused. A price of 24€ was way too much for what we got. All in all the waitress was quite rude to us every time she came by.
Then the show started. Not a cabaret, but a Spanish-speaking man with a guitar singing in every language but French (to be noted we were kind of expecting a French show). After listening to the singing for about 20 minutes, we decided it was not the kind of show we wanted to see and decided to leave. That’s when it got absurd. We told the waitress we are leaving, but to our surprise she responded “You can’t go!”. And in a very demanding tone. I have never been refused leaving as a customer. Super rude! We kept on insisting that we want to leave and not just because of the show, but because the drinks, the food and the service were all terrible. I stated that it’s my birthday and I want to go and spend it somewhere else. Then the waitress said “Yes, and that’s why you have to go back so we can bring you the cake!”. I will attach a photo, but the “cake” looked like a piece of toast. It almost felt like they wanted to humiliate us on purpose. After some tense arguing, they agreed that we will go. Then they tried to charge us 4€ for the cloakroom service, which we didn’t even want to use, so we refused to pay.
There are hundreds of lovely restaurants in Paris but this is definitely just a waste of time.
