This was the best hotel of my entire Scandinavia trip. Highly recommend and would definitely recommend. The location is outstanding - very central and the excellent food hall is right next door. The room was spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was outstanding. I was also just so impressed with the attention to detail of the staff. I saw them monitoring, cleaning, and doing things that I'm sure no other hotel staff would even think to do.

Excellent city centre hotel ideal for exploring Gothenburg. Staff, décor, rooms, food all excellent, we will definitely return. Top tip, when visiting Sweden they are just about a cashless country, so take two credit cards just in case one doesn't work as all transactions are tap and pay.

Very good stay with an excellent location and very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast and very nice terrace. As others have said, the rooms are starting to feel a bit dated and breakfast starting at 8 during the week feels a little late. And yes there is no air conditioning but I requested a fan before i checked in and they were able to accommodate that request. I’m grateful for the fan as I’d imagine sleeping with the window open would be quite noisy.

Avalon Hotel Wow — what a fantastic location, and genuinely friendly staff who go out of their way to help. The sustainability concept is excellent. The rooms follow a Scandinavian design language but feel a little dated. Continental-style Swedish breakfast, which we thoroughly enjoyed. All in all, a very, very good experience. Would book ourselves in again.

We loved this hotel from the moment we arrived! The front desk staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Our rooms were comfortable and well-equipped, cool decor. There is no A/C in the rooms so we left our window open at night, but since we looked out on the street with popular bars it was noisy (our only complaint). Breakfast was included and it was a delicious buffet. You can sit outside and eat, which we loved. Wonderful location, walking distance to most things.

Very comfortable bed and spacious room. We booked a Superior King room. Room was clean. Bathroom had double vanity. Very quiet, even though we had a room next to the elevator we didn't hearing anything. Great location, 10 minute walk from Central Station and right across from food hall and a short distance to the Haga District. Staff was very friendly and polite. Breakfast was very good with many choices and plentiful seating.

A very nice, super modern hotel in a great location. Right across the street from the Saluhallen (the food market ) and tons of restaurants, shopping, plus it’s an easy 10-15 minute walk to the train station. Our room was really big with an extra seating area, plenty of room for suitcases, and the bedding and towels are fabulous. Good breakfast buffet and the restaurant is good also and very popular with the locals as it has a big, sunny outdoor seating area. We had to leave in the morning before the breakfast buffet was open but we asked the night before and they had very generous to-go breakfast bags waiting for us as we checked out. Highly recommended The Avalon!

Lovely afternoon sitting outside enjoying a cocktail before lunch. Although it was fairly busy it was easy to talk and simply chill outside on a perfect day. There is no better tour in Europe than afternoon cocktails in a square.

Yelp
Christmas Eve. We arrived very late at the hotel, but check in had already been done by my brother earlier in the day, so it was just to walk in, take the elevator, open room. Nice, no frills room with a very comfortable king sized (I think) bed. Pillows, covers and sheets were superb -- 5 stars. We slept very well. Bathroom had an interesting solution: if you happened not to close the 2 doors while on/in the toilet and someone knocked on the room door... Hahaa... well... the world is an oyster. The husband in the bathroom, the family at the door, I'm in between. 10 stars forever! Breakfast was great. Anything you'd expect from a luxury breakfast was presented: fresh scramble eggs, meats, pancakes, fruit, cold cuts, cheeses, GF, breads, etc. And the pièce de résistance was seeing my friend Alexander Klingspor's beautiful paintings in the dining room and lobby. Very nice stay.

Yelp
We booked a room here, last minute. The reservation process was flawless and we were given a fair price as members of Nordic Club. Check in took minutes and we were given a lovely room with free early check in. Views were great and the windows opened. The vibe is super hip and fun. Oddly, the elevator and halls smelled musty and not good. Breakfast buffet did not rival Clarion Post, where we stayed previously but it was a lovely buffet. Marcus went the extra mile to insure our stay was great. Super location. Super quiet night's sleep in room 44.

Yelp
I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. If you're from the US, it has a vibe similar to a Kimpton property. Hip, but not hipster. Clean. Fun. Decent food, and good bar. Pleasant helpful staff. Convenient walking distance to a lot of dining and shopping. I would definitely stay here again if I return to Gothenburg.

Yelp
I keep returning to this place every time I am in Gothenburg. I love the atmosphere at the hotel - it feels like a luxury hotel anywhere in the world, yet with a very personal service and touch. I have tried many dishes and they use mostly local groceries and never disappoints me with the quality. One time I've had the best chicken I have eaten, and I think it was from a small farm nearby. It is hard to find good chicken these days but they manage to. I've also had dry aged veal filet that was amazing. Perfectly cooked salmon. The list can go on and on. The staff is always amazing, super service minded and always knows where the meat is from. This is a great place for couples and business people. Not boozy groups.

Yelp
Good service! The shrimp sandwich was more than OK, but not super! The cod filé was high standard! Friendly and nice atmosphere! Price/quality is almost right!

Yelp
This review is for the hotel. I stayed here for 2 nights this autumn and I really loved the experience. Its in a beautiful location of Gothenburg and the decor of the hotel is really colourful and quirky. I loved the seated area in the lobby beside the modern style fire, it was really cosy and a really nice spot to sit and do a light bit of work in. There breakfast buffet is lovely. Full continental style which was included in our room price. My room was great, large open plan room, with a bath tub in the centre of it. Rainfall style shower was superb. The bed was very comfortable, loved the choice of 3 pillows, hard to really soft. There is complimentary bottled water and a chocolate waiting for you in your room which always wins my heart over. My only criticism of the room is the lack of privacy you have in the bathroom. The door does not go the entire way, so your a bit exposed and can hear everything :-/ Not exactly romantic haha. I defiantly recommend this to be changed, so I have taken 1 star away.

Yelp
I have only been to Avalon for their downstairs bar area to get drinks... I have to say that its pretty good for a hotel bar in Gothenburg. It has a trendy vibe and the bar is surrounded by couches, in which you can sit and relax with your friends while sipping on a much needed drink. Shopping is just around the corner day time, and clubs and bars are just a few feet away at night... Thumbs up!

Yelp
When I first visited Gothenburg we stayed at Avalon. It's right downtown next to Saluhallen at Kungssportsplats and is a well known hotel here in town. They have a top floor pool that hangs out over the roof (with a clear glass bottom), and have a nice bar/restaurant on the first floor. In the summer they open their patio area and it's a very popular place for those people that want to be seen. As far as the hotel goes, it's top notch. They were always extremely helpful, going out of their way any chance they could assist us - from bringing extra towels to bringing us a glass of milk. The rooms are a bit small, but acceptable, and include all the amenities one would expect from a hotel of this caliber. The beds were awesome, the rooms have snacks and a small bar, a fridge, safe, closet and a wet room bathroom. I did find the square toilet a bit weird, but I guess it has something to do with the hotel being designed entirely fung-shui. They have flat panel TV's and English language channels available. If you say there you get breakfast for free, which is totally worth it - it's an amazing spred! Even if you don't stay there, if you're in town go check out the hotel. It's pretty cool just look at from the outside, and it's next to Saluhallen, which is another place you need to check out too. I'd totally stay here again, and I'd recommend it to any friends I had who might come to visit.

Yelp
Ok this hotel was too cool. All kinds of art that was pleasant, but tiny rooms, a pool that is totally awesome but closes at 6 because the people in the suite have private access at 6. I don't remember the breakfast. My suggestion, don't worry about the place unless you get the suite or you're a design obsessed idiot. If I was going to party like a rockstar in Göteborg, I'd want that suite. You can look down on the street through the glass in the bottom of the pool.

Yelp
Great hotel although not cheap. Nice decor, great staff, spotlessly clean. Standard room has free wifi, minibar, safe, hairdryer, iron and board, sparkling water, tv, dvd player, walk in wet room with great shower. Breakfast is included in room rate and is superb! Endless choice of buffet food which is very fresh and always topped up. Anything from fresh fruit to cereal, sausage, bacon, swedish meatballs! fancy teas, coffee, breads, croissants. Breakfast will not disappoint! Cant really fault this place apart from tv's could be doing with being replaced and a bar/restaurant price list could be placed in room but these are very minor points and would certainly not put me off staying here again.
