Why Avelo Airlines Is a U.S. Low-Cost Carrier Worth Your Attention

"Avelo Airlines is a new U.S. airline that started service out of Burbank, California, in April 2021. Avelo focuses on underused airports to make fares cheaper and offers perks like inexpensive bag-check fees. The airline operates Boeing 737-800s on the west coast and Boeing 737-700s on the east coast, exclusively between Connecticut and Florida. Avelo's strategy includes investing $1.2 million for a new terminal at Tweed-New Haven Airport. They offer low-cost travel with fees for services like seat selection and baggage, but these are relatively inexpensive. The airline avoids direct competition with major carriers and aims to be a 'kinder, gentler' low-cost carrier with a focus on customer-friendly policies."

What It's Like to Fly on Avelo, America's Newest Airline

"Avelo Airlines is a new low-cost carrier launched by Andrew Levy, aimed at price-sensitive fliers, offering leisure travelers a smooth way to get where they want through smaller, more convenient airports in major markets. The airline operates its first flight from Hollywood Burbank Airport in Los Angeles to Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County in Santa Rosa, becoming the first new mainline carrier in the U.S. in 15 years. Avelo Airlines plans to use secondary airports in larger markets to attract customers looking for point-to-point flights to vacation spots like national parks, ski areas, and wine regions. The airline has announced its intention to set up its first East Coast hub at Tweed New Haven Airport in Connecticut and is investing in modernizing the airport. Avelo offers low fares starting at $19, with additional fees for seat selection, baggage, and boarding preferences. The airline focuses on customer service and aims to build a purposeful culture with its 'Soul of Service' ethos." - Travel + Leisure Editors

I have flown Avelo probably 8-10 times. I was actually on the inaugural flight to Burbank from Colorado Springs. Here’s the thing: ITS A BUDGET AIRLINE. The service is not going to be 5 stars. Alot of the reviews I’m seeing on here and the problems I think could be dissuaded with this in mind. I personally have never had an issue with Avelo. The seats are a bit cramped and the planes are bit old, but the flights are short so it doesn’t really matter. I generally only bring a carry on to avoid any issues with baggage. Twice i have accidentally left an item on a plane and staff has been helpful in successfully retrieving it. My one complaint would be the cancellation of routes. Avelo would actually have my business more if they kept that COS-BUR flight open more; I understand it’s a business decision but think that they shouldn’t completely cut the route. I’d rather take Avelo over Southwest. Overall I’d recommend.

You get what you pay for. Avelo low rates are a joke. Awful Awful service. The majority of the staff is very disrespectful and inconsiderate. Promo codes always have a loop holes. Trust me, If you can, stray far far away. Spend extra for your peace, your dignity, and your safety. Kudos to the handful that actually like their job, do their job, and care for the people, not just their paycheck. In addition to: the head of security of Burbank Airport (The Sergeant) needs some ethics training along with Avelos staff. Stop abusing your power, and do your job! That goes for people in all positions. Treat people with respect at all times!

First time flying Avelo. $19 from Santa Rosa to Burbank! The flight was smooth, the staff friendly and professional. Arriving in Burbank, we got our luggage 1-2-3. Returning to Santa Rosa, it took 45 minutes (STS step it up!). VERY pleased with Avelo & this new service! Also, I called customer service to change my ticket and there was no charge. They picked up the phone right away. The guy was SUPER helpful and nice. I feel like the old days of flying when you could connect with real life people who care! Thank you so much!!! ❤️

Google
Thank you Avelo for making a quick getaway from Montana to Disneyland and Universal Studios a safe, quick, affordable reality! At $48 round trip, we were able spend the weekend in the company of Mickey Mouse, the Avengers, Stormtroopers, Minions, and Dinosaurs instead of the usual ho-hum. The online ticket buying experience was easy to do and hassle free. $10 for a checked bag is a great deal. The coolest part was when we decided to add a day to the trip at the last second, we found there were NO fees to change the flight. That was very nice. Our ground crew in Burbank was friendly and professional. There are some bugs to work out with the speed of the bag check process, but at these fantastic fare rates, I don’t mind one bit. Our inflight crew was just as great, and the little complimentary snack pack was yet another welcome surprise to add to the experience. We will no doubt be flying Avelo again in the near future. Can’t wait!

Google
Very reasonable and on time. They do a great job. The biggest cost is baggage fees and seat assignments. We try to avoid both and just travel light and save the money.

Google
I am updating the below review. While it is convenient, the notion of them transporting people to countries, not necessarily their own, and without due process, is enough for me not to fly them again. What a shame. "We flew Salem to Burbank and back again this weekend. The process was very straightforward. The pricing is similar to an a la carte European model- you pay for your ticket and then add on what you need. The website is upfront as to costs and the price is super reasonable given the convenience. The check in was easy, boarding efficient, and a great flight. There was no service on the plane but we could get a bottle of water by asking. The flight staff were kind and it was a great experience all around. We will definitely use it again! Thank you."

Jimmy Famolare

Google
Avelo airlines transports people that have not had due process, as the US constitution specifies, out of the country on behalf of the Federal Government. This transportation of human beings to an El Salvadorian prison can be likened to Nazi transportation of Jews, Gays, and anti-Nazi protestors to concentration camps from 1933 to 1945. This is a shameful American Company that should not be supported.

Horrible Airline, My family and I took a trip to Las Vegas from our local airport and we were scheduled to come back on 11-11 after being in Vegas for 36 hours. We were informed at 1pm our flight was delayed 24 hours and was told they would cover the hotel cost for another night. This wasn't the best option, and I had a very important meeting for work to attend but it would be way cheaper then booking another flight on another airline. We went to the airport 3 hours early because we didn't have anything else to do and when it was time to board we went to the departing gate. When we arrived the airline at that gate wasn't the correct one and we were told to go down to another one. When we got there, there was no one at the counter but I was able to flag down a crew member in the boarding area. They told us the flight was canceled and they couldn't do anything for us, the plane was still parked and ended up leaving while I was on hold with customer service. They refunded my flight cost and I ended up booking with another airline at twice the price and had to fly back to an airport 1 hour away. I now come to find out they will not reimburse me for the hotel because I canceled my flight after it being delayed and told it was canceled the second time. I'm out so much money from this and they don't give a crap.

Yelp
They treated us very nicely on the way back. It's so nice to have a cheap airline BUR-Salem so we don't get charged 3x by Alaska. I guess back to five stars.

Yelp
I had a wonderful experience with ''Avelo Airlines' customer service by calling 1-866-357-6606. The representative was friendly, attentive, and quick to resolve my issue. I needed help with a booking change, and they made the process smooth and stress-free. Their clear communication and prompt support exceeded my expectations. For reliable and efficient assistance, I highly recommend reaching out to Avelo Airlines at 1-866-357-6606.

Yelp
Avelo seems quite happy to cancel flights at the drop of a hat and then let you know that you are on your own. They did offer to rebook me on their next available flight, which was in three days. And they will reimburse hotel expenses up to $150, which, obviously, gets you nowhere. Book at your own risk. I never will again.

Yelp
Arriving at the Avelo check-in counter in New Haven 1.5 hours before our departure, we had to wait in line for over an hour, the line was not moving. A staff member asked who was taking flight 717 to Orlando, we made it clear that it was our flight. She then signaled us to wait but nothing happened, the line did not move forward. 20 minutes before our flight, we finally arrive at the check-in desk, the girl at the counter tells us that we can no longer board the flight, it is too late because we have a checked suitcase (already paid for). We are frustrated (with good reason)... The supposed team leader asks us to stand close to the wall, she will come see us after her customer. Final boarding of flight 717, we are still waiting for the team leader who, ultimately, decided to answer the entire waiting line before us. The children are crying because they want to go on vacation . She came back just to tell us to calm down, because if we continued to be angry, she was going to call the police. We had to buy new tickets with Breeze which had a counter next to that of Avelo and which had a flight 2 hours later. We have currently been waiting on the phone for 1.5 hours to speak to customer service.

Yelp
We booked a flight after using this airline before. They had 4 flights going out within 15 mins of each other! It was pure Chaos! My husband was supposed to have a wheelchair and that never happened. There was a 2 hours long line. One scanner was not working and they only have 2. It is too small a terminal and tarmac to have that kind of activity. We will ever fly again! We were excited for the locarion but whoever is running the airport is doing a terrible job!

Amy C.

Yelp
HORRRIBLE Airline. ZERO ability to access customer service...but plenty of was to be "an influencer". Total trash, never fly with these people. No way to do a chat, no way to access a person at the airport, and TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS to speak to customer service who...wait for it...NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE. We had a small, easily solved customer service issue or it would have been for a real airline. The only way to fix it? Cancelling and rebooking since we could never access an actual, live person. Total garbage. Cheap because it isnt worth it.

Kellee K.

Yelp
Burbank airport Avelo departure staff is untrained to work directly with the public! Treated confused, elderly people with no respect. Do not let your family fly alone if they need special care or any common decency or patience from the boarding crew.

Krystal G.

Yelp
We had gotten to SRQ at 1:10 2/28/25 and asked if we could get on our flight. Our scheduled flight was to leave at 1:26 and we had arrived after boarding at the time stated. Plane was still there. Nobody let us pass. One white woman was really nice about it and had permission to board and the other was not so nice and stated we couldn't pass.. We had a death in the family and now we are heading to RSW to make it for the service, my husband's sister. And our flight is delayed there. The woman that denied us was very unprofessional. Our next flight will be out of RSW like we have been doing never again out of SRQ.

Mark O.

Yelp
Not bad. No frills. Comfy seats, I'm 6'2". We will fly again. Clean & simple. No food or beverage service. 737 planes, big roomy.

Yelp
On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a sorry excuse for an airline. Only redeeming value is that they are cheap. Service is non-existent. Today's flight had a no-show flight attendant so they had to find, hire and train (evidently) another while a ground crew and 100+ passengers waited for this one person. Poorly run, poorly executed, don't fly this airline if you have another choice.
google avatar

Arthur J.

Yelp
Rude as hell. I guess Passenger safety only matters to this Airlines if you pay for the extra room in the emergency exit row. All 10 emergency e it row seats are completely empty. I'm 6'4" and my knees are in the back of the poor guys seat in front of me. I tried to explain that and they didn't care. She just said I had to pay for it ahead of time. NO Other airline I e flown on before has this small of leg room. What a greedy, Inconsiderate company.

Yelp
Flying round trip New Haven to Fort Myers. My departing and returning flight were both cancelled due to inclement weather - less than 2 inches of snow in February in CT. I waited a total of 6 hours on hold (3 hours each time) after receiving an easily missable cancellation text 2 days before my first flight and 1 day before my second. Both cancellations came through on Friday evenings, and there were 290+ people ahead of me in queue despite me calling right away. there is no other way to reach customer service other than phone. The first time they couldn't get me on the next flight out, so I opted for one-way refund and paid double the price to get out of LGA. On the way back, I was put on the next flight out and when I asked to be in an aisle or window seat they told me there was nothing they could do unless I paid extra for it. After that horrible experience, I sat back of the plane in a middle seat. I also asked for a refund on the additional cost of my luggage since I had to take a carry-on instead of my originally intended checked bag and they did nothing. Customer service was unfriendly and unhelpful. They don't care at all about the inconvenience or outrageous additional costs to their customers impacted by cancelled flights. They block Uber at Tweed so I had to pay double price for a Lyft home. On the way out, I heard the next flight saying they would not take off until 8+ customers gave up their seats due to weight imbalance on the plan in the rain. They were only offering travel vouchers. Never would fly Avelo again, criminal experience and not worth it.

Damara R.

Yelp
If I could give Avelo 0 stars I would. To begin, the staff is extremely rude, yelled at my children and told them to get to their tiny airport "2 hours early next time", and that they were going to miss their flight. Mind you, their flight was delayed TWICE by Avelo! In addition to their rude staff and constant delays, their luggage charges are ridiculous. They charged my son an extra $100 for baggage being over the limit and they do not care if it's 0.5 pounds over. Yes, they are local if you live in CT but not worth it to me. I will be returning to my usual NYC airports and driving the 1 1/2 hours. I highly recommend avoiding Avelo airlines.

Emi R.

Yelp
Flight will be delayed for 24 hours under guise of weather conditions when other airlines are flying to and from the same locations the same day and there are no such weather reports. After waiting on hold for 2+ Hours you will then be told they cannot compensate for transportation, extra night's stay or give flight credits for the massive inconvenience. "Because it was a weather related delay. When no such conditions were met. It is obvious they say it's a weather related delay when that's not true so that they do not have to compensate. Basically when you book Avelo be prepared to have your flight changed inexplicably and with horrible communication and have to burden all of the inconvenience and extra costs yourself. All that's offered is a flight the next day and "F You" attitude.

Bonnie S.

Yelp
They cancelled our flight out of Eugene a few hours before we were supposed to leave. If I hadn't booked more expensive flights with another airline we would have lost our non-refundable hotel at our destination, but Avelo offers no compensation for that. I had to email them to even get them to say they would refund the money for the cancelled flights, so far I don't see the money on the account. When I called to confirm the cancellation with avelo, I told the customer service representative we had non-refundable Hotel rooms booked for that night, she told me to email the receipt and it would be refunded, however, now they refuse to compensate me for it.

Sandie C.

Yelp
DON'T use them they cancel flights regularly with absolutely zero customer service!!! if you want to take a carry on it costs you if you want to pick a seat it costs you if you want a drink of water it costs you! Book with a more reputable airline
google avatar

Sherrell S.

Yelp
Wow! Zero employees, zero communication, three planes of passengers waiting for them to decide which two of us will take off because of a broken plane. All these flights are hours + late with no weather problems. My Last flight on this airline regardless. Had not had problems before but they are not handling this appropriately.
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
Avelo Airlines charged me $65 when my bag clearly fit within the parameters. They were rude and clearly not honest. It was my first and last time flying with Avelo airlines. Plane was also a Boeing so that's scary.

Julia G.

Yelp
If I could give them 0 stars I would and I have never written a 1 star review before. I woke up today to an email that they canceled my flights and rebooked me on flights on two different days to my initial trip. This does not work for my schedule so I tried to look for different flights and they are no longer flying on the days I need to fly. The company policy is flight credit only so be warned. It also costs $25 to speak to a customer service rep over the phone. I wrote an email but who knows what that will do. The company is a scam and I would not recommend unless you want to give them $500 for service.

Yelp
On 5/31/24 Avelo airline gate D8 attendants at Ft Myers International airport denied myself and my husband our flight to Tweed airport. They measured our free carryon bag that slides under the seat. It measured 1/2" higher because of wheels. Was told sorry ma'am it's over sized you need to pay 65.00 for each of your bags. Being extremely upset because we have used these bags traveling on Avelo for the past 3 yrs and flew in 11 days earlier on Avelo with the same bags it wasn't an issue, they easily roll right under the seat in front of us. After we exchanged some cross words. Gate attendant with very long hair told us we couldn't board this flight home, this was 12 in the afternoon. We had to get another flight, only one out that day was on JetBlue flying into Westchester NY at 7 pm. We paid top dollar for the flight back paid for lyft ride home then get our luggage and car at Tweed New Haven Airport. Most Avelo Airline attendants treat you like garbage. They herd you in like cattle. There are a few who are very nice but most are just miserable. JETBLUE is he way to go. There is enough to deal with these days who needs Avelo's bullying! Will never ever fly them again!

Dan M.

Yelp
I would give this airline a zero if that was a choice. Customer service hold time is 1 to 2 hours wait time. I made a reservation and cancelled within 24 hours and could not get a refund to my credit card since it was within 7 days of booking. I understand policies but they are just that, policies. By the way, i cancelled my flight due to the exorbitant check in baggage charges. They advertise low flight rates but not only the seat charge, which is fairly common, the baggage charges made the total cost exceed the competing airline. I now have $232 in travel credit which I will never use as I refuse to do any business with this airline. Thanks for nothing customer service rep for your help.

Fred L.

Yelp
never fly in or out of hvn- new haven ct everything is terrible with this airport. avelo books too many flights in/out. terrible parking, drop off, pick up. absolute mess!

Aimee C.

Yelp
booked flights through them and didn't book bags at time of booking because I wanted to use a different card. well after I booked the flights the price of bags went up $25 a piece. I called to see if they would honor the price and they refused. You are better off paying extra with other air lines who don't charge $60 per carry on. would never fly again.

T Y.

Yelp
I have tried to fly three times now with Avelo. Each flight has been significantly delayed (3+ hours) or outright cancelled due to weather (understandable) or mechanical issues (we like a fully functional plane). This review is for the absolutely abysmal and terrible customer support and online experience. There is no excuse in 2024 for a call queue of 180+ people and 220+ minutes of waiting for a phone call when my flight leaves in an hour. That is unacceptable. Each time I did get a call back (after waiting hours) and spoke with representatives, they only regurgitate the same information available on the Avelo website. So what's the point? Why hire humans to simply read the web page? Also, your mobile application is a crippled dumpster fire of a web browser. Shame on you. Whatever "app" developers you hired to create this awful mess should be thrown out a window of one of your airplanes. And I don't mean that in a harmful way, they wouldn't get hurt because all the planes I was supposed to be on are still on the ground and never took off. There is clearly not a single user experience expert on your team, and no one has done any quality control. Terrible company. I will never recommend Avelo to anyone I care about.

Mk R.

Yelp
I flew on Avelo from New Haven CT to Knoxville TN during the last week of December. I paid for a checked back both ways and that made the trip about the same as it would have cost me to fly American out of Hartford. The trip to Knoxville was fine. The Avelo plane is nothing remarkable. It was clean and the seat was a regular plane seat. It did seem a bit narrower than the average plane seats, but even with a full row of three it was pretty normal. The flight crew was pleasant and helpful. The flight was smooth except for a jerking stop at landing. Trip to Knoxville was a 4 out of 5 most due to the staff. The trip home was not good. My mother decided to return with me to CT and so we got to the airport about 2 hours ahead of our original departure time of 4:58 with extra time as she walks slowly. We shouldn't have bothered. Throughout the day we received multiple texts about the flight time changing. The first one was at 6:57 am with the delay being about 1 1/2 hours. By the time we boarded I had received 6 texts about flight time changes. The only text that mentioned a reason was the first one stating "heavy fog". Well, that's crap because based on the traffic cams in the area and the friend pickign us up at the airport there was zero fog near the New Haven airport. So we waited in the airport until finally boarding at 8:30 pm. Never once in the five hours that we were at the airport did anyone from Avelo make an announcement about the delay. At one point there were twelve flights from Avelo, Allegient and Frontier scheduled to depart from the four gates near us. Frontier and Allegient staff made announcements but zero from Avelo. I did go to the desk to ask a question when someone showed up. She was from Frontier and did answer my question. The only time I saw anyone from Avelo was about 2 minutes before the boarding process began. Again both ground and flight crews were efficient and pleasant and the plane clean and relatively comfortable. The captain apologized for the delay but there was no mention of weather causing it. We were told weather, "air traffic control", the "busy season" and even a "mechanical issue" but nothing real about what was going on. None of that changes that no one was there to give us real -up-to-date and accurate information. When I got home I emailed Avelo to see when we would receive the compensation required by law for a more than 3 hour delay and I have heard nothing from them. It's been more than a week. If I ever do hear from them I'm sure they will call it a weather delay and say no compensation is needed. But really, Avelo, if you want to keep your customers happy you would do something about your miserable performance.

Kyle L.

Yelp
Terrible bussniess models. Screw everyone it feels like. They are EXTREMELY sensitive to their personal bag dimensions. Spirit airlines for reference, has never given me trouble over the bag I choose to fly with. AVELO made me pay an additional 65$ at the gate because of one inch. Iv been all over the world with this bag, this is the first airline to give me trouble and make me pay. The plane was hot and smells musty and stale. We had captain sunshine and that was fine. Overall, fly with anyone else. You will end up paying the same price.

Chris D.

Yelp
I'd rather walk than fly with this company again. My flight was canceled for over 24 hours and wasn't contacted by the airline in any way to notify me. I sat at the airport for four hours trying to find out what was going on which was impossible because Avelo didn't have staff at the ticket desk or gate for the entire day. They have a single ticket desk in Las Vegas so for a couple hundred dollars they could have it staffed very easily 24/7. I will NEVER try to save a buck by flying with this company again. All in all, I had to pay over $600 to get home by renting a car, taking off work, and driving for 14 hours. Pay a little extra and fly Delta.

Ryan K.

Yelp
Makes spirit look like a luxury airline. Never been on a flight that wasnt delayed. Most recen experience got to the airport 2 hours early for a domestic flight and missed it. Airline is the only one at the airport so 100% their fault. Had elderly people waiting outside in CT in the winter for an hour. At all costs avoid this airline.

Clark P.

Yelp
this is a flight that I usually take from Santa Rosa to Las Vegas which is usually an hour and a half . Going down this time was fine but coming back was terrible . Supposed to be 7:00 p.m. depart from Las Vegas to come home on Thursday night February 6th. After sitting an extra hour in the airport at Las Vegas they said the plane was late and iced over in Redmond washington. No problem I can deal with that then the stories got deeper and deeper about how they were going to have to do a quick stop in Burbank which was only 40 minutes away according to them . We finally bored not 8:00 p.m. but 1:00 a.m. the next day. Short trip to Burbank for gas and pilots. Got to Burbank no gas available and the pilots timed out both sets of Pilots timed out . Had to take the next flight the next morning and sit in a cold rainy airport all night long with no heat. No food no offerings. A bottle of water finally about 4:00 in the morning. Plane was supposed to leave to Santa Rosa at 7:00 the next morning . My wife at home was checking in and they said we were taxing and we had not even had the plane in front of the terminal yet so everybody's getting the wrong information . The 7:00 a.m. depart from Burbank which was a day late finally left at 8:00 a.m. this was flight XP 801 February 6th . Misinformation, lies, they really don't care, they should have had the plane ready the next morning, we should have stayed in Las Vegas at a warm airport instead of in a cold airport in Burbank in the pouring down rain. Very poor . Clark p l u m m e r Santa Rosa . Expect some kind of compensation and I sent four or five emails to the avalor. Probably won't hear anything . Really sucked

Dana C.

Yelp
absolute scam and a nightmare DO NOT fly avelo. Worst experience, they are too small and unorganized to handle the flights . you will miss your flight even if you arrive over 2hrs ahead! then will get charged an insane amount of money to book a new flight

Sandy S.

Yelp
Fix your app! Every time I try to manage my trip the app freaks out. Just trying to check in!

Harvey K.

Yelp
I flew 7/28 from Arcata(ACV) to Burbank. I got to the desk to drop off my suitcase, ( I had paid the baggage fee) 33 minutes befor my 8:20PM flight 196. They were closed. Said that I had to be there 45 minutes before flight time. I when to the gate and they also would not accept the bag. Said that it was too late and must carry-on. NOWHERE IN ANY WAS THAT RULE IN ANY COMMUNICATION THAT I HAD RECEIVED. I then went through security where they removed $33 worth of purchases because it was NOT a checked bag. The items could not go carry-on. Mind you the Arcada airport is quite small and the plane was less than 50 yards from the door. An an accomodation could have been made. Avelo is the lowest. Their website is not at current standards. Very hinky! Their customer service is nonexistent by phone(I was told that there was await time of 168 minutes).

Yelp
Delayed my flight twice then canceled completely I paid upfront and have called twice no call back and no refund as of yet.

Yelp
Scam airline charged me one way for a carry on but not on the way back. Inconsistent $65 charge for a carry on absolute joke airline.

Yelp
Do NOT use. Twice I've booked flights for my son from Chicago to New Haven...first time he arrived due to late flights at 1am in the morning and now TODAY it's happening again...was supposed to land at 8:50PM in New Haven and again will get in around 1AM...no rhyme, no reason no meal vouchers...and just try calling customer service...still on hold after 45 minutes. Nothing like having a student arrive at Tweed New Haven at 1AM...fly into NYC and train it...for the love of god do NOT book this airline

Yelp
Great ground crew in Burbank & in Salem Oregon -- especially Ron & Echo in Salem & Jordane in Burbank Even the TSA on both ends is delightful . ‼ Avelo Flight attendants are RUDE, inattentive, pay no attention to passengers, allow bags blocking floor during take off & landing AND allow people who paid lower rates for their seats to move up to the extra legroom seats that others have paid a hefty fee for. I have flown Avelo 5 times since they began flying direct into Salem, Oregon in 2023. My Flite attendants on flite # Tuesday, 2nd July, Salem to Burbank was the WORST I have ever encountered domestically or Internationally, and I am a frequent traveler . The most rude large female attendant,Ashley, had an unpleasant attitude at boarding. By the way do not expect any greeting from Avelo attendants they just stand & speak amongst themselves! In this case on the 2nd July they were complaining about wheelchair, stroller, and car seat passengers. Offering NO help. We sat on the runway for at least 30 minutes due to a mechanical issue Flite attendants offered no water, didn't check to see that bags blocking rows were stowed for safety requirements or make any announcement -- the pilot finally did after 20 minutes of sitting After takeoff I entered the front lavatory (I was in seat 2 C) There was NO toilet paper, hand towels, or seat covers -- no more than 2-3 people had used the lavatory before I did. Hence obviously no staff replenished supplies nor tidied up pre takeoff . When I told 2 of the women, Ashley, and a very unkempt, wild haired employee standing chatting they were rude and one mouthed "bxxxh" at me. She then proceeded to say to me " thanks for telling us how to do our job" What is the job of Avelo Flite attendants... appears to be nothing!!! Upon returning to my extra legroom seat suddenly a very very obese woman -- taking up 2 seats with the armrest up -- appeared in my row. She had been assigned a seat several rows behind me-- I told the staff that this was inappropriate as I had paid extra for the seat in row 2. Ashley told the large woman that "Ms Privileged did not want her in her row" -- referring to me and moved her to another extra legroom seat behind me. Eventually 4 people in seats further back in the plane ended up moving to the extra legroom seats all around and behind me with no word from attendants. When mentioned to the only friendly and active attendant, Ashlyn, she replied, "moving seats is not allowed but I am not working the front of the plane so there is nothing I can do" This situation on Avelo certainly wouldn't be tolerated on any other airline, one in coach is not allowed to move forward to empty business or first class seats. Avelo has attempted to brand themselves as a budget airline -- it is far from it-- carry on or checked bags are $60 + each, seats with any extra legroom is up charged extravagantly. Round trip for me was approximately $500 -- not inexpensive. I am hoping that Alaska or some other airline will add flites to Salem as I travel there frequently due to parents, family, and business. In my various 5 round trip flites I have witnessed Flite "non- attendants" sitting eating meals, reading magazines, playing solitaire and other games on their phones, and gathering in the front galley speaking loudly and inappropriately in front of passengers. On the flite up to Salem from Burbank the attendant in her jump-seat chomped, cracked, and blew bubbles with her gum the ENTIRE Flite I was in the 1st row hence could not ignore her poor manners. This was beyond annoying. NEVER have I exited a flight and immediately requested to speak with a manager or supervisor but I certainly did after this trip Very very nice man called Jordane at the Avelo podium in Burbank took notes and said someone would contact me -- a week later of course, no one has. Also the website for Avelo is not up to par making it very difficult to make or change reservations, add bags, book special assistance or any other options. Sadly I am forced to fly Avelo as it is the only airline flying directly into Salem

Yelp
First time flying with this airline was such a horrible experience that it is also my last time flying with them. First impression is everything and Avelo Airlines has definitely dropped the ball on impressions. My sister arrived to the airport at 4:10 in the morning for her 9:45 morning flight and when she got to the gate, they closed the door saying the flight is full. They told her that the next available flight will be on Friday, Nov 29 and now my sister has to miss Thanksgiving. Since, I have to leave a star, I rate this Airline with 1 star. I'll rather not leave a star. We are very disappointed.

Yelp
Small airline, fast service, friendly staff. Nothing to complain yet since RT from Burbank start from $49!

Yelp
Flew from Burbank to Bozeman. Everything went perfectly smooth. Flight on time. Friendly people working for the airline. All good.

Yelp
Worst airline out there! Will be letting family and friends know to take their business elsewhere. As a young mother of a one year old that had to travel over an hour to the airport just to realize you get there and the people at the front check in desk leave almost an hour before the flight actually takes off(which is crazy because I had to wait for the employees to show up to my last flight so I could even get checked in but I was patient and didn't complain) I couldn't even speak to anyone to change my flight. Then to finally get ahold of someone over the phone just for him to tell me there was nothing he could do, not even help me reschedule another flight. With that I will take my money elsewhere and put it into a better ai

Yelp
Flight is 2.5 hours late. Maybe MORE. We are still waiting in line. Supposedly we are "boarding" right now. But the line hasn't moved. I would give this airline 0/5 stars. DONT EVER FLY WITH THEM. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. EVEN IF ITS FREE. SO INCONVENIENT and unprofessional. Very disorganized

Yelp
Where do I start with this airline? We recently moved to Connecticut, so the New Haven airport is considerably more convenient than driving into NYC. Last spring, we took a flight to Savannah and it was delayed over 8hours at the airport. The delay took effect in waves - about every 90min from the time we got to the airport, Avelo would EMAIL me saying the flight was delayed another 90min, but there was no in-airport announcement made. I only live 20min from the airport and easily could've gone home for the day and come back, but because Avelo didn't set the delayed flight time, we had to remain in the airport in the event they fixed the issue and boarded the flight immediately. We got to Savannah just before midnight when the rental car desk was about to close, and drove to our hotel but there were no restaurants open, so we were stuck eating from a vending machine. Over the course of the delays, Avelo didn't offer anyone water of food or an apology. The airport staff didn't know anything. We had already booked a flight the following weekend to Florida, but while waiting for our flight to take off, I called the customer service agent and told them we wouldn't be flying with this airline ever again. They told me the flight was non-refundable and there wouldn't be an exception to the policy due to poor service. I've been fighting with them since last year to get this policy reconsidered because every experience with this airline has been a nightmare. After my issue was escalated multiple times, I was firmly told "no" and asked to rebook on another flight in the future. I booked a new flight to Charleston this coming February, and two weeks later it was cancelled. There was no explanation and now Avelo isn't serving flights to Charleston for the month of February. At this point, I have no idea if I'll ever be able to take a flight with Avelo or use the credit because I can't trust they'll actually keep their flights running, or even on time. I called customer service and explained the situation again but was told no again and that I would have to rebook on another flight in the future. It doesn't matter to this airline if you have a bad experience - for your own sake, don't fly with them. It's not worth it. They don't have a delayed passenger policy due to any reason and won't compensate you if you incur costs due to their mismanagement. Also to note, it took me 6 days of calling every day to get someone from customer service on the phone. I requested callbacks every day and never got one. I also submitted an email request and never got a reply. They're clearly understaffed and overwhelmed - and they should be considering how bad the airline is managing its flights.

Yelp
Let me start by saying, i was SO hopeful for this airline based on my initial experiences. Booking the flight was fine. The app was dodgy, but got the job done, and the staff at MCO for my departing flight at the counter were all class. In fact, I made the comment to my wife that "so far, I feel like I'm on Delta for a fraction of the cost." My family and I landed safely at our destination and began our Thanksgiving holiday. Then things went south. Far south. The day of our departure, I started getting text messages that our flight was delayed 30 min. No big deal. In fact, I appreciated the text message alert and all seemed okay. Then I got another. And another. And another. And another. 2+ hours accumulate. I'm over 1.5 hours away from the airport so we decided to just head that direction and hope for the best. My wife, two kids and I arrive at the airport just to be told that the delays continue. We FINALLY (3+hr) later get on the plane just to sit and be told we need to de-ice. Another hour goes by. Our plane starts to taxi, and along with this newfound movement we are greeted with a strong perfume of diesel exhaust. Oh well. About an hour into the flight, flight attendants start moving around frantically. We start to focus our attention on this as it wasn't normal. We finally are asked if there were medical personnel on the plane as there was an emergency in the rear of the plane. The passengers et al start to worry and grow anxious. Time stands still as we wonder if everything is ok. Commotion, requests for aspirin, and stress are all now the ambient noise. Finally, the captain comes on and lets us know that the plane is diverting due to two crewmembers becoming ill/incapacitated. It's midnight. After a super (yikes) rapid descent - we are held without being able to exit the plane until emergency personnel arrive. No problem. We hope for and want safety of all involved. An hour goes by. The captain then tells us to make accommodations (at 1am) and that Avelo will reimburse $150 per ticket. In fact, as he mentions, "if you have a family of 4, you're doing pretty good!". We are then told that we will depart "around noon" tomorrow. We deplane and call hotels. I'm able to get one at under the budgeted amount for the 4 of us and we are exhausted. The next morning rolls and we look for messages, email, carrier pigeons.. nothing. Call the airline to wait on hold for an hour to be told that the 12pm time stands. Logistics for new boarding passes, etc are non existent. My toddlers, wife and I get to the airport after now incurring expenses on ground transportation, food, etc. to be told that our plane was delayed for an hour because the "oxygen tanks from last night" weren't refilled. Imagine my surprise. More time elapses. We board the plane (same plane as yesterday) (!!) and then are greeted by the fact that we are now to wait because "we are waiting for passengers". An hour goes by. We push back from the gate. None of these "passengers" ever got on the plane! (Huh?) We are then lucky enough to have one of the crew from the night before let us know that the flight attendants got sick at the rear of the plane due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Likely due from the de icing truck fumes. Awesome. Not. We finally land. It is now 12/27. This event happened a month ago. I've been "reimbursed" HALF of what I was promised with the "you should be grateful we also gave you $50/per passenger for future travel" after a month of just asking for the per diem we were promised of accommodations and cost incurred. No explanation from the airline as to what REALLY harmed their own staff and put the passengers at risk after reaching out directly to Avelo senior leadership and being completely ignored. Stay far away from this airline, friends. Consider this a cautionary tale. The fares are appealing but the experience is far from it.

Yelp
They sent me an email delaying my flight, then an hour before the original time for boarding they sent me an email stating my flight would leave on time and was no longer delayed. Finally when my family and I arrived at the airport they cancelled my flight with no opportunity to take a later flight. I've never experienced this before. They knew their was flooding at the airport and electrical issues all day, they should have cancelled the flights and made the customers aware sooner, instead of the mixed communications I'd been receiving all day. They dropped the ball with their customers and offered full refunds because they know they failed!!!!! We have hotels and plans in place and for them to offer no resolve with a later flight is terrible. Please beware of this airline!!!!!!!

Yelp
Would not recommend. Crew refused to fly, even though other airlines continued to land and take off. After a 5 hour wait with no other information provided, flight was delayed 24 hours, upon which the captain was still not there. Whether it's the planes that are not reliable or the crew, the price is not worth the risk.

Yelp
Unfortunately I payed twice for my luggage and they will not refund the $120.00 I payed extra. Be ware when booking your flight and checking in for your flight.

Yelp
Let's start off by saying that if I could give this airline ZERO STARS, I would. My husband and I were flying from Santa Rosa to Las Vegas for a quick 2 night trip. Avelo is one of those airlines where you have to pay for every bag your bring, your seat...even practically to use the bathroom. When I went to check in on the App 24 hours in advance, the reservation did not have any way for your to check and see what you had already paid for. I knew we already had seats because my husband insists I always book a guaranteed seat or get priority boarding if we fly on Southwest. I did not have my original purchase info handy. That is where the wheels fell off the bus. Since I didn't know if I had paid for any bags, I kind of panicked. If you wait to get to the airport you have to pay even MORE to fly with your bags. So in my own haste, I purchased two Carry On Bags BOTH ways to the tune of $240. I figured we could get a refund if I wound up already purchasing the bags. Shortly thereafter, I located my original purchase info and found out that I already purchased one CHECKED BAG for us. Which I then recalled; since we were only going for two nights, that would be fine for us to pack in one bag and bring a small personal item (which is free to bring). I IMMEDIATELY phoned Avelo and spoke to an agent, who was barely even paying attention to what I was trying to explain. I had literally JUST MADE THE PURCHASE and we were flying out the next day. GIVE ME REFUND as I already have the bag situation COVERED! The rude agent then proceeded to tell me that I wouldn't be able to get a refund, that I would only get a "credit"...I MADE THE PURCHASE LIKE FIVE MINUTES AGO IN ERROR LADY!!! She then told me that since it had just happened, she was unable to even give me credit and that the Agent when we checked would have to do it for me. Guess what happened when we went to check in. I explained everything to the Agent, Kaia, as we checked the bag we had paid for when we booked the flight and she could se that we had NO CARRY ON BAGS. She said she didn't think that she could issue us the credit and she had to make a call to her people to see how we could go about doing that. We had to step aside. She then came back to us in about 5 minutes and gave me the Customer service Card for Avelo and said that the Customer Service People would need to issue us a credit. I asked her, "are you going to make sure that they know we DID NOT FLY WITH ANY CARRY ON BAGS?!" She assured me that she would and all would be fine. Even when we flew home from Vegas, I let the woman checking us in know that we had to call Customer Service to get a credit as we were not flying with Carry On Bags and all along I have been assured that we would get a credit SINCE WE CLEARLY DID NOT HAVE CARRY ON BAGS! Well, you guessed it, when I got home, I phoned Avelo Customer Service as I was told to do, and the ALSO seemingly uninterested agent had to put me on hold to "check their notes" to verify that we didn't have checked bags. LOOK LADY...I don't make it a habit of buying Carry On bags and then secretly bring them in the hopes I can scam your loser airline and get a credit. I have a life and I pay my taxes. I was then told that since she couldn't verify it that I had to email the finance department people and they would review it for a credit. I got a reply back that THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE CARRY ON BAGS WERE BROUGHT ON BOARD. WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE!!! Am I living in the Twilight Zone?! How did they "verify" this?!? THEY ARE LIARS AND THIEVES!! A lesson has certainly been learned here - at the price of $240. NEVER EVER FLY AVELO AIRLINES. They are criminals and run the worst Customer Service operation in the airline industry. I have filed a formal complain with the DOT and I will also be going down to the local Santa Rosa Airport to speak with whoever is in charge there to make one last attempt at getting the credit - which now I will never use - it's the principle of the matter at this point. I hope it was worth it to them to lose a customer for life and for me to shout to the roof tops what a garbage airline they run.

Yelp
We had booked a flight a month ago to fly to Florida for Thanksgiving for a family reunion leaving on Wednsday and coming back on Saturday. This morning I received an email and text message from Avelo saying that my flights had been canceled and that I would receive 25.00 for my trouble. Called customer service because I thought it was a scam. After 4 hours they called me back and said yes the flights were canceled and they moved it to the same times just a day later, which means we would be flying on Thanksgiving day and arrive in Florida at 6:30 that evening. So basically my trip will now have to book through another carrier and cost much more. Never again will I fly Avelo. And the customer rep could care less about the inconvenience.
