I ordered a bunch of fish for Christmas Eve from here and have been coming back for years. The fish is always fresh and never disappoints. The family that runs the market is always accommodating. Highly recommend. Love the Irish salmon!

Local gem. You need to come here to get your fish. Tuna, salmon, branzino, Chilean sea-bass, red snapper, swordfish, dorado and lots more. Always fresh, always friendly! These guys been in the neighborhood forever! Angelo, Jake, Anthony - the best!

HIGHLY!!, upset my husband brought fish from here for the New year and as he was cooking the fish you can tell the fish wasn't good. It smelt so horrible. Batch after batch every single batch he cooked was bad. We had to get fish from the supermarket. Please check your fish before leaving and smell it as well.

The fish in here was definitely not what you want.The fish was not fresh at all.had a bad smell when I cooked it only 1 hour after buying.I will definitely never step foot in this establishment again.The health department needs to check out this fish market. I wasted money and time ,had to throw away all the fish I purchased.

I stopped in to check the place out as I am a commercial fisherman. The owner and his son were extremely helpful and cared about where the fish they were selling actually came from. They also cared about the freshness of the fish. I was glad I stopped in and saw that people still do care.

When I lived in brooklyn that was my go shop. When I moved to Jersy, we drove back there. The best and freshest fish ever. Too bad I moved out of the country. Sure do miss the fish and the people who wor there.

Been coming here for over 40 years wouldn't go anywhere else for Christmas eve 7 fishes. They always have quality and a smile.

Another local gem in the neighborhood. The staff are extraordinarily knowledgeable about all the fish, not just the origins, but will also give you helpful advice on how to cook and prepare everything. I know for a fact that their salmon is high-quality and delicious. One of the things I keep coming back for are the crab cakes. They get them from a local small business on Long Island I believe. They come frozen and you just have to heat them up in the oven for about 20 to 25 minutes or pan fry them for 3 to 5 minutes on each side. Hard to find really good crabcakes and these are definitely worth it at $4.25 a piece.

I've been going to this fish market for years. The fish is always fresh. Anthony,Joseph and the Uncle are always great. The workers are very helpful. When you walk in it doesn't smell like a fish market. They keep it very clean. Also they come up with great recipes if you ask. Thank you all.

What a find. I was in the neighborhood and figured a good opportunity to find some oysters and fresh fish, something different from my usual salmon and cod. First of all the store is immaculate. New reno, clean, smells fresh. Then James greeted me with a smile and a welcome. Walked me through the various whole fish, the prices, and for fun showed me all the different salmon filets to see how they differ. Filleted a few whole branzino and sea bass for me and shucked a bunch of oysters and packed it all up in ice -- in the time it would have taken me to cut a finger shucking one oyster. Got to chatting with James, heard the genuine pride they take in their three-generation family business. Its always great to hear when the next generation cares so much about the customers and the community they serve, and want to keep the legacy going. Oh and the oysters and fish were excellent, and prices seem appropriate to the product and shopping experience. Highly recommend!!

I've been here twice in the last month since making our own sushi is now what were doing. I came here to buy salmon and tuna. The first time I came here I had a pleasant experience with a younger guy who was really knowledgeable and helped me a lot. The second time I came here was a less pleasant experience. The same guy wasn't here so I dealt with an older gentleman who was nice but he didn't put on gloves when he cut up my fish and this made me feel uneasy. Otherwise it was an ok experience. The prices are a bit steep but the quality is great.

The store is bright and clean and the fish (salmon) that I bought was fresh and delicious! It's a perfect fish market - can't wait to go back!

The greatest quality fish. We order from here all the time, the owner Angelo is a sweetheart and he treats every customer like they truly matter. I've gotten everything from branzino to sushi grade salmon and tuna... an amazing spot to get your fresh fish from. Their delivery is fast too!!

My wife and I moved from Staten Island to the Rehoboth Beach area of Delaware in 2019. While living on Staten Island, we made weekly trips to the Avenue U Fish Market to purchase their always fresh fish. We were never disappointed. Angelo and his staff do a wonderful job bringing the freshest fish and seafood to their customers. We only wish they were located in lower Delaware. If you want the freshest fish, I urge to visit the Avenue U Fish Market. You won't be disappointed

This fish market is pretty good. They have a decent variety of fish and the place is clean. Scored some lobster tails and red snapper for a reasonable price. And the customer service is pretty good.

If you're looking for fresh, delicious, high-quality seafood, then run, don't walk to Avenue U Fish Market at 2704 Avenue U. It was my first time in their store, yet Angelo and his son greeted me like I was a long-time customer. And who else even asks if you're going a long way and need ice to keep your seafood cool and fresh? A truly great experience. I look forward to returning for more seafood purchases for years to come.

Liked this place very much. Had everything I needed. But seemed like they pick the best pieces for regulars...Which makes sense. Very friendly and mind. Seems like a family business. But everyone there really seems to know their stuff. First prices best in this party of Brooklyn... So far. Tips: **KNOW*** what you want. Google it before you order, so your "guessing" doesn't keep EVERYONE else waiting. If you're not sure, ask lots questions.... Butlet them know the questions as coming. You'll get an honest answer not a rushed answer. Touch, smell, weigh, feel your product (fish/ seafood) to see if it's right for you. You can never have too much info. Make them pay attention: I went right before Christmas eve. If you don't speak up, you won't be noticed. Don't be rude... Just confident. Keep your budget in mind!! What you think you'll spend and what the prices actually are... Very different! *A random hurricane can change the price of any seafood product.

I used to come to this place but they always give me old stale fish and always try to rip me off. I don't come here anymore. I don't recommend this place to anyone.

Definitely no fishy smell for a fish market $13 for farmed raised shrimp and $22 for wild shrimp. Still delicious ! Would come back if I don't have time to go to the asian supermarkets toward Ave U train station

Ave U fish is my go to fish store. They carry fresh fish and will try to accommodate whatever you're looking for. It's small so they don't have everything but what they have is fresh. They sell to restaurants so they move a lot of fish; very important in the fish world. Angelo and staff are super nice and honest! I travel from Rockaway and have been for over a decade. Well worth it

A friend recommended this place to me - love love seafood! Pretty small, with a lot of workers that are all busy preparing the orders. Looks like people call in to order and then just come pick-up. Everyone was very nice - several people came up to me to find out if I was being helped while I had already been waiting for my order to be ready. Got 2 Branzinis , 10 med. size scallops for an appetizer and half a dozen oysters (from Long Is. North). Total was $42 + 5 buck tip, I thought this was decent. They do accept credit cards. The fish - if you want the head still on you should definitely let them know, because the default cleaning comes without one. Of this I was warned first thing by my friend :) The oysters were my perfect pre-cooking meal, as i was too hungry to do anything. They've prepared them for me, put on a small paper tray and in a bag - ready to eat, just add the lemon. Next time i'll bring in the tray with lid - say like those you get when you order a lot of sushi :) Everything was very fresh and most delicious dinner - ready in 20 minutes! P.S. Do not watch Men in Black III while eating seafood.

This will be my first Yelp review! Today was my first time visiting this Fish Market after a recommendation from a friend. The store itself is pretty small but they offer a great selection of fresh seafood. Everyone who worked there were incredibly friendly, welcoming and have great advice for whatever you are looking for. Their salmon, scallops and mussels were really fresh. I always call before I go so that I can have it prepared and ready on the side for me when I pick it up.

This is my favorite place to get seafood. They have any seafood you may be looking for, its always fresh. Also, they will special order for you if you give them a head's up. The service is also top notch. Thanks for always delivering a great product.

OMG, we visited AUFM a couple of weeks ago. I had called before we went to inquire if they had monkfish. Angelo set aside the few pieces in house for us, even though he had no guarantee that we were coming. Well, we did. Got the monkfish and made a Moroccan tagine. And then picked up baby flounder from which I made Francese. Both fish were amazingly exquisite. OK, Angelo, don't let this go to your head, but the monkfish was the best I've had since my honeymoon in Paris almost 40 years ago and the baby flounder francese was incredible. BEST fish market I have encountered and I used to live across from Citarella on the UWS. Coming in tomorrow to see what sea delicacies they have. Run, run, run to AUFM if you are a seafood lover! 10 stars!!

Great first experience. Fresh fish aroma upon entering not smelly fish odor. Not just depending on ice to keep the fish fresh the air conditioners had me quite cold. Greetings from all of the staff immediately. Staff worked together to get the things that I asked for. Others eloped my main server clean and package my order. Went yesterday going back today. This is hands down the best fish market in Brooklyn. I have been a customer since 2014 and will never go anywhere else. The quality of the fish sold is like going fishing yourself. This is my new fish market! I called them up today(Sunday) and not only did they answer my call, they allowed me to come there even though they are normally CLOSED on Sunday. Angelo and his son were only there today because they were working on a special order. I was looking for fresh soft shelled crabs and they were the only fish market in Brooklyn that had them(I called tons of fish markets prior to check the availability). Because they had the crabs on hand, they sold them to me. They stopped the work they were doing, cleaned the crabs for me and gave me a good price. They were extremely pleasant and it smelled very clean in there.....no "fishy" smell. No other fish market will do! I'm sold

A charming throwback to my youth. This store is right up there w the best in Manhattan. Angelo & his sons know the business well, & can be trusted to supply you with some of the freshest/kick ass seafood to be had. Staff seems happy & has been there forever. You're not going to find fresher fish in Brooklyn, period. They have everything. When you walk in, you can smell the freshness of the ocean. They are always busy, especially on weekends and holidays--forget it--call ahead and place your order, they are great that way. You can pick any choice of fish on their tables and they will cut it to your specification. And this is a great feature: if you don't like what you see, they will go into their fridge room and grab another fish for you! I just love that. It's not big on food supplies though you can get the basic fish products there. It's all about the best quality fish in Brooklyn, hands down.

I have been going here for almost ten years. The place is an old school Italian Fish Market.Smells like fish,looks like fish and the men are covered in fish.We travel from Staten Island every Christmas it's become a tradition.

I've been shopping in this great Family Store since 2009. It is always clean, and the most important fact for me there are no any odors. We usually buy branzinis, clams and oysters. Always fresh. According to the pictures on the wall it is under the third generation management now and they keep the family business in the best way. And also if you want to see 25 years old giant ficus then you definately have to visit that place!:) Highly recommended!
