Loved the personal touch and we came almost at closing but they treated as if it was first of the day. Very informational about the bioengineering wines and harvesting.

Enjoyed our wine tasting very much. Paul was great. He explained the history of the winery, took time to explain each wine and made it a pleasant experience. Beautiful winery! Must visit when in Tuscany.

Yelp
Great afternoon stop on our journey through Tuscany! We just did the wine tasting but it was so much fun learning about how this vineyard works and how they become an organic winery. Our guide provided wonderful details and hope to get back for another visit!

Yelp
This was a magical afternoon. Our tour was amazing and the Grand Tasting was just that. Service was wonderful and the meal exceptional. Splurge and treat yourself, you will be glad you did.

Yelp
The whole experience was great. Great history. And amazing service. Lavenia was a knowledgeable and incredible host! Highly recommend and ask for her for your tour.

Yelp
A lot of the other reviews give some of the basics. The tour is a pretty "standard" tour for an elite level winery (walk around the vineyard, check out the fermentation tanks and barrels, etc.). However, the lunch tour and tasting for $100 or so per person is one of the best values in wine. Please see the photos posted, but basically it's a four course meal with a wine pairing for each course. It should be noted that the wine pours aren't small...and they'll refill you multiple times if you want. Also, they'll let you try all of the wines if you ask. Basically, their wines (Chardonnay, a bunch of sangiovese, some "super tuscans" which are sangiovese and merlot blends or sangiovese and cab sav blends, and their vin santos (one based on sangiovese (not what vin santo is normally based)). Anyways, their sangiovese vin santo (occhio di pernice) is one of the best and most expensive vin santos in the world. Literally, it easily sells for $400+ for a 750ml bottle. Their "normal" vin santo sells for over $300. Plus, their 50/50 is easily $100 a bottle. Yes, the cost doesn't always equal great wine...however, do you really plan on forking out that money to try their vin santo? No, so book the tour and figure out if you like it. Anyways, the food was great! The wine was really good. I prefer Brunello over Nobile, so I wasn't blown away by the wine. However, the experience was great. A great view and wonderful lunch for $100 a person isn't bad at all. Actually, to me - it's a pretty great value!

Yelp
We arrived at 2pm without a reservation and they were glad to take us. We sat outside on a gorgeous July day in the shade and had the 7-wine tasting for 28 euros and also the lunch platter for 50 euros. One of the staff served most of our wines and the platter. She spoke perfect English, but the couple times another staff member came by she spoke perfect English too. She was knowledgeable and thorough in her descriptions and was able to answer our questions too. One of the wines was poured into an off-tasting glass. (It happens more than you might think). I brought it into the tasting room whereupon 3 different staff including an important-looking guy all sniffed it and all agreed it was off. They thanked me for letting them know and promptly poured me a new glass. Perfect attitude! I went back outside and continued to enjoy the platter which was a classic antipasto plate but it also had some highly elevated and creative items such as a borage flan and a stinging nettle flan. Delicious. Excellent meats and cheese and also a quinoa salad with feta and vegetable flecks in it which was delightful. Apparently all the vegetables are grown in their own organic garden. We had a marvelous time in a gorgeous setting sipping great wine, eating food that was healthy and delicious. We didn't want to leave. The wines were all great and we bought a few for the road.

Yelp
Stopped by for a tasting which was great. There were two options of which one was of their highest end selections. They do charge for the tastings here which is somewhat uncommon of the region but they refund that if you buy a bottle of anything you tasted in that flight. Wines are quite pricey but very good. The Desirado was amazing.

Yelp
My partner and I did a tasting and tour at Avignonese and we had some great wines that you can get for a great deal. Wwe originally found out about this particular winery through a great Italian restaurant in Washington DC, and they sold some of their "50/50" wine in the restaurant. Normally we don't go to wineries when they export to the United States, but Avignonese is making some of the best wines in the Montepulciano area and is definitely worth a visit. The winery tour was fine and pretty standard. Once you've been to a few you've basically been to all of them, but they do have an interesting process for producing and drying out the Vin Santo that they sell. The tasting was very premium, and included all of their hits. The main benefit of going directly to the winery is that the shipping price is very low and they sell at very good prices compared to US wine shop markups.

Yelp
Been here multiple times. We have done the tour, bought wines and even enjoyed the cooking class with lunch. We just come for their wonderful lunch now and it never disappoints. They pour plenty of great wine, the food is divine and the setting is Tuscan. Really can't beat an outing here. Please guys, start serving dinner!!!

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and get the chefs platter for a light lunch. It was incredible!! It's chefs picks each time so we didn't even get the exact same platter as the people next to us. The grounds are beautiful and there is indoor/outdoor seating to take advantage of. Watch out for enormous yellow jackets...my husband got a bad sting/bite when we were outside.

Yelp
My husband and I were really looking forward to visiting this winery on our first trip to Italy and had heard so many great things. While we can't speak to the quality of the tours given, we ere extremely disappointed in the glasses of wine we purchased. The wines themselves were good, but the amount given was much too small to be considered a glass, they were simply "tasting portions". For the price, we would have gone elsewhere and enjoyed more wine.

Yelp
Had a wonderful tour today given by Paula in English. She was very patient and informative. We were able to tour four different areas. First, the grape room where all the grapes are placed on bamboo mats and kept there for 5-6 months. Second, we toured the room where the large (as in huge) barrels are kept. If i'm not mistaken, these are the Avignonesi oaks that are used for the barrels which are built inside that room. Third, we went inside an old building that was dark and musky in smell and was built in 1882. There French oak barrels are used. Lastly, we toured the Vin Santo room which is located inside a building that has opened windows and is bright and airy. After the tour, we had lunch with a wine pairing for each course. We started with the Antipasto of Valentano's chickpea soup with Firenzuola's spelt. It was so warm and delicious. It was paired with iL Marzocco Chardonnay DOC Cortona 2011. Then the Primo Piatto of Homemade maltagliati (pasta) with vegetables and Orcia Valley's saffron sauce. This was paired with two different reds the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2008 and the Desiderio Merlot Cortona DOC 2008. Last, came the dessert. It was Grandma's cake with Gewurstraminer zabione. This was paired with the Endidae-Gewurztraminer passito- Castelfeder (this tasted like ice wine). Not included in the tour and lunch was the premiun wine tasting. I highly recommend it. Its 28 Euros but you get to try the best of what Avignonesi offers..the Reservi, the 50/50, and the Vin Santo. The Reservi and Vin Santo are my faves. The Vin Santo is nothing i've ever tasted before. You gotta try to know what I'm typing about. :) P.S. They have fresh hand towels in their rest room. Classy!

Yelp
Biodynamic & organic! The best tour I've been on so far on my grape trails!

Yelp
We booked our tour and lunch with pairing wine through their emails. The price was Euro 95 each. The tour started at 12 noon and we were greeted by the staff and served with drinks while we waited for another six people to join. Avignonesi is an established winery with professionally trained personnel. Their tour was very informative and it was amazing to hear the stories of how they experimented with planting to achieve better quality wines. They are striving to be the best and the vineyards are also in the midst of becoming 100% organic. So it was really an eye opener to be able to tour this winery. After the tour, we were led to the lunch terrace overlooking the view of Val d'orcia. Each group was seated separately so we didn't have to share tables. I wasn't a drinker but I enjoyed a sip of those I don't really like and drink all that I love. The Vin Santo, the wine that is aged for ten years, are definitely my favourite. 'The Cheese from Sienna' has a special cheese which was covered by Vin Santo grapes. We prefered the other dessert which had fried sage leaves, fresh goat cheese with poppy seeds, dried blood orange slices, homemade dark chocolate with ginger, rosemary walnut biscottini, and homemade gelato. The fillet pork was also marvellous, full of flavours and tasty.

Yelp
Beautiful winery with delicious (albeit incredibly expensive) wine. The tour is informative and worth it if the timing works out for you. Wine tasting is on their glass-enclosed patio overlooking the vineyard. Price is 15 E per person unless you spend 50 E on wine, which is surprisingly easy with their prices ranging from 20 to 100 E, with most more than 30 E per bottle.

Yelp
Not recommended! Told day prior, Tuesday, we did not need a reservation to simply taste wines and they are open until 6 p.m. Reservations required for everything else. After a day touring La Foce with family, we arrived at Avignonesi at 445 pm on a Wednesday. Asked if we wanted to taste wine indoors or outdoors, we selected a table outside. They should have told us they didn't want to serve us at that hour which was 1.5 hours before closing for a simple wine tasting and purchase out the door. Instead we were strung along for 50 minutes of wasted time! 20 minutes no order taken, only menus. Made inquiry thinking they forgot us and we received water and our order was taken for wine flights of three for two persons. Simple? Wrong...another 15 minutes and one wine was poured. When asked if we were forgotten, the reply was they had a meeting. Their meeting of 2 was a chat session and no other customers were in the office. Another 15 minutes and we went inside and said we couldn't stay any longer. At that point one of the female staff members ducked behind the bar without a word. What kind of business is this? So glad we decided not to do the costly commercial tours. We own a vacation home in Tuscany and never have we been treated so rudely. Bad experience which I hope results in replacing front office staff...not a place of business I would ever recommend to others. I will tell all of our Italian and American friends about our poor experience here. I would not recommend going here. Too many other better options in Tuscany.
