AVITUS Wine Bar

Girlfriends and I came across this place by chance while waiting for our supper reservation. It was amazing. I don’t normally do reviews, but this place deserves it. Building your own charcuterie board is brilliant. No more settling for things you don’t actually care for. We got exactly what we loved and it was perfect. And that honey truffle spread was delicious. Then to have a wine savvy server pair us with a wine to go with the specific items we selected was a great experience. We all agreed we’d come back to this place!

What an absolute gem. Nestled in Marda Loop this wine bar is a fantastic place to spend a long afternoon or evening enjoying the atmosphere together with good wine and good company. The owner Yann is as French as anyone this side of the Seine, with a big French accent that is matched by his knowledge of French wine. There are some food options, of course led by the house cheese board in keeping with the French theme, complete with truffle honey and cheese from a Swiss monastery, simply outstanding. There are also some warm shareable options that will accompany your choice of fine wine. Definitely worth a visit.

We had such a wonderful experience at AVITUS. It really felt like a Wayne bar experience you would have in France. All of the servers were French, and made the whole experience feel very genuine. It was very busy at 6pm on a Friday but we were able to get a table outside. They have pillows and blankets on the chairs, as well as a heater outside. It was so cozy. Ahh, the wine. We did not receive a menu, instead, you talked to your server and told them the type of wine that you liked and what what you were looking for and they would give you some options. It was such a cool experience. The food is a build your own charcuterie menu, with meats, cheeses, spreads and pickled vegetables. It was so nice to be able to pick exactly what you wanted in flavors and in size too. We had such a wonderful experience here and will be back again for sure.

Avitus Wine Bar is a must-visit in Marda Loop. The space is elegant and cozy, the wine selection is top-notch, and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and warm. It truly feels like being in France—from the ambiance to the wine, everything transports you. Whether you're a wine enthusiast or just out for a relaxed evening, you’ll feel right at home. A perfect spot to unwind and discover great wines.

I was absolutely thrilled with my visit to this French wine restaurant in Calgary! The waiters spoke with a charming French accent, creating a captivating atmosphere. The first thing I noticed was their incredible wine list. They had a wide selection of wines, and the sommelier was highly knowledgeable and happily assisted in choosing a wine that perfectly suited my taste preferences. Each sip was a true delight, and the combination of wine with the appetizers was simply magical. The appetizers themselves deserve immense praise. The flavors were exquisite and left my taste buds in awe. The service at this restaurant was top-notch. The waiters were attentive and professional, always ready to fulfill any request. They regularly provided small presents as additional treats, which pleasantly surprised and enhanced my gastronomic journey. I highly recommend this restaurant with a rating of 10/10!

This bar is in my neighborhood and a short walk across from where I live. Authentic French French vibe rather than French Canadian. Great selection of wine and charcuterie. The clientele sometimes might be a bit hoity toity and obnoxious that goes with their economic strata but overall it's a great place to relax and have a glass of wine!

We had a wonderful experience here on New Year’s Eve. They made wine recommendations that were always on point, and the desserts we had (fondant chocolat and tarte tatin) were delicious and beautiful. The staff are friendly and have created a beautiful and cozy place to enjoy.

The food and wine were good. Our server, "F", basically ignored us though. After taking our wine order it was virtually impossible to get his attention. We waited 25 minutes from receiving our drink before he took our food order, and we had to catch his attention for that. Then nothing. He didn't ask if our food was okay, didn't ask if we needed anything else, no offer of more wine, nothing. The menu said that all bread orders come with butter. We had to specially request the butter, again after working to get his attention, which he then told us we really didn't need. We also had to remind him to bring out the rest of our meal, which he had forgotten. He was completely indifferent, no token apology, nothing. And because of where we were seated, he had to walk past us to every other table, yet he still managed to forget we were there. We requested a new server, but by then we were almost finished our meal. I've been to France. The servers there are the best in the world. "F" was the worst. He really soured our experience. Would not go back.

Delicious food and wine, knowledgeable servers, great ambience out in the patio in the evening. :) We really enjoyed all the recommendations from servers and the food itself was top notch. What a great addition to the Marda Loop community.

Way too expensive for what this place has to offer. Maybe they are trying to cater only to a certain demographic. Great staff and service
