AVLI LOUNGE APARTMENTS

After a wonderful day of wine tasting and food at the Avli restaurant we stayed at the Avli lounge apartments for the night. The room was beautiful and spacious with a large spa bath. Excellent huge comfy bed. |Wonderful peaceful quiet night.

We originally had a regular room with no balcony but switched to the “Blue” executive suite. Great choice! Excellent sized room and very well appointed for our 5 night stay. The team at Alvi is wonderful! Very helpful and attentive to whatever you need. All of the rooms are a climb of stairs so be aware. Not a problem unless you are needing/wanting an elevator. The room had a great balcony for relaxing and was right along the bustling alleyway below. Easy walk to anything. We were fully warned of potential noise from the bar/pub below us to the right but truly it was never an issue for us. Great stay in a great location with great service and people!

We had an incredible time here! We were in the Blue Room, which as mentioned is above the Irish Pub . This worked for us, as we stayed up late and really enjoyed that pub. Other visitors may prefer the other rooms, which are quieter. Our room was stunning, clean, and very spacious. The breakfast is fantastic! It gives you a great sampling of Cretan foods. We also greatly enjoyed the wine tasting. Nikos, the sommelier, is very experienced and highly knowledgeable about Cretan wines. The dinners were amazing- the restaurant here is the best in Rethymno by far. Everything is very well prepared and with very fresh ingredients. The food feels really healthy, and is so tasty! The staff are really accommodating and helpful . I definitely want to come back and stay again!

Visiting for a second time in three years, we were immediately reassured that nothing of the excellent service and delightful accommodation had changed. Avli’s focus on local products in its restaurants is commendable and sensible given the quality of the Cretan products. The staff’s warmth is genuine. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or to return.

This is a beautiful boutique hotel conveniently located close to everywhere you'd want to go in Rethymno. The rooms were lovely and my friends' room had an outside patio on the top floor where we could enjoy each other's company and some good Greek wine! The restaurants at this hotel were steps from our rooms and were absolutely amazing. We received a lovely welcome drink and hors d'oeuvres while our luggage was taken to the room. We were leaving one day prior to the scheduled breakfast hour and the staff went above and beyond and made us breakfast early so we could make our tour on time. We checked out early on our last day there and they were kind enough to bring trays the night before our check out for our breakfast in the morning. ALL of the staff are super friendly and accommodating!!! Thanks Avli!!

Without a doubt, this was one of the best hotel accommodation experiences we have had. We knew that our booking included a free drink each, which usually means a beer or house wine. On arrival, we were shown into their beautiful fine-dining restaurant while our bags were carried up to our upgraded suite. Cold water arrived followed by any drink we chose. Along with the drinks, a platter of fresh local vegetables, meat and cheeses - just great hospitality. The room was beautiful with a private rooftop terrace. The breakfast was just so good - an array of local dishes, yoghurt and fruit, followed by eggs cooked in a range of serving options.

This low rating is specific for the Blue Suite which is in a separate annex (along with the White Suite) that is above a very noisy bar/pub open until late hours. If you are thinking about making a reservation at Avli and are not the type of person who stays out until 2 or 3 am, you might want to contact the hotel to find out exactly where the type of suite you are booking is located. Their other building by their restaurant is a quieter location. It is common for hotels in city centers to be near restaurants etc. that are open late, and we are used to that when traveling, but this was the noisiest room we have ever stayed in.

Avli Lounge is a charming, small, boutique hotel situated on a narrow pedestrian way in the heart of the old city. We enjoyed our stay, with a few quibbles. One highlight was the amazing breakfast in the beautiful, leafy Avli restaurant inside a courtyard. Our particular room - a junior suite -- was in a different building around the corner. The room was very nice, spacious and had a very comfy bed and huge and tastefully done bathroom. But the room felt a little dated, the sitting room furniture was uncomfortable and the room didn't have much natural light or fresh air. Also the a/c unit didn't work very well. On the plus side it was very quiet -- couldn't hear anything from the noisy, late-night Irish pub next door! I have read complaints from others about that issue. Staff was helpful and re-arranged our reservations at the Avli restaurant. Discount parking a few blocks away worked well. Might also look at nearby Rimondi Boutique Hotel which also looked nice from the outside.
