A piece of living Irish heritage! Avoca Handweavers is such a fascinating place to visit — not just a shop, but a story woven through generations. You can really feel the history in the fabrics, colors, and textures, each carrying the spirit of Ireland’s craftsmanship. The atmosphere is warm and authentic, and it’s easy to get lost among the beautiful weaves, natural products, and local flavors. A visit here is more than shopping — it’s stepping into Ireland’s cultural soul.

Just had a wonderful guided tour with Alan. An insiders view of the oldest mill in Ireland. See first how master artisans craft handmade and high quality fabric and continue the mills 300 year tradition. The whole family enjoyed the tour and then lunch at the cafe.

Google
Alan took us on a brilliant tour where we got to learn the history, ups n downs and current status of this still-working weavers. Yay to the Wynne sisters! We got to meet some of the contemporary master weavers who work there now, and watch them at work both on traditional and modern looms. Whether you're a textile geek or a total novice you'll find this interesting. Great team in the shop too! Thankyou for all your help ladies.

Google
Beautiful shop and café with a charming mix of traditional Irish craftsmanship and modern style. The handwoven textiles are gorgeous—perfect for gifts or souvenirs—and there’s a lovely selection of food, home goods, and clothing. The café serves delicious meals and baked goods in a cozy setting. A bit on the pricey side, but the quality is worth it.

Google
Brilliant tour with Allan. Interesting and delivered with passion. Great to get a feel for an old loom.

Google
Beautiful spot with an amazing history. Detailed tour of historic and modern day production methods from a knowledgeable and friendly guide. Shop and cafe are wonderful.

Google
The tour was so enlightening! What a wonderful history... the power of educated women. The shop has many great items.

Yelp
Beautiful woven throws and blankets. My first was my dads and I've had it for over 20 years and it's still brand new. Just bought my second. The staff were helpful but not pushy. They have a cafe too with yummy looking food (we were short on time).

Yelp
Was an interesting stop along the way. The changing leaves on the hillside, the meetings of the waters, and lavender bushes scattered throughout the property. The mill itself looking like Christmas, all decked out in its red paint. Was a very interesting process- difficult too I can imagine. The cafe across the street had some tasty looking treats. The gift shop itself seemed a little overpriced, as there weren't any socks less than €18. Well worth a quick visit though

Yelp
This one of my wife's favorite shops for Irish women's knitwear and fashions. It's set in an old mill setting a few minutes outside of Avoca. You can probably walk there with ease. Out back there is a beautiful little stream with picnic tables. In one of the other buildings you can take a tour of the knitting operations. While my wife shopped, I stopped by the attached cafe for a cappuccino and pastry and both were quite good. When the tour buses arrive, this place can get very busy.

Yelp
A tourist trap, but an interesting one. The mill tour was brief, but worthwhile. If you're in this area, I'd recommend a stop.

Yelp
You certainly wouldn't come here specifically for the coffee. The wool clothing is very good though, if you're looking for a nice sweater/jumper it's worth the stopover.

Yelp
The original of the species - that's the Avoca Wollen Mills, shop and Cafe in the gorgeous village of Avoca Co. Wicklow. It was here it all began and now there are several Avoca stores around the country and in the greater Dublin area. It is well worth a visit here to see an actual woollen mill in operation and see how they produce the fabulously colourful throws, blankets, coats scarves etc etc that are all produced here. In fact now is a very good time to go as they have an amazing sale of up to 70% off on a wide range of clothes, household goods etc. But whatever you do, please make time to visit the really lovely, airy and bright Cafe and sample some of the delicious freshly prepared breads, scones, soups, not to mention the mouthwatering cakes tarts and all things sweet and delicious - all of which are made on the premises. Lovely friendly staff and it's not a bit touristy this time of year so go on, go on, go on and see for yourself!

Yelp
I find this place to be awesome if you have a great camera. Avoca is a beautiful, beautiful area. However, I really don't feel like there's much else there. The Avoca mill basically sums up everything. I took some photos, but this area doesn't seem like a "must-go"/must-see.

Yelp
We stopped here for a short break on the way to Glendalough. The Wild Wicklow Tour gave us a chance to get a bite to eat and also shop before continuing our way to the monastery ruins and lakes. I was impressed with the size of this establishment. There was quite a bit of food and beverage choices including coffees and scones along with full meals. The shopping area was large as well with an assortment of just about anything you might be looking for. The grounds were immaculate. We ate outside at one of their tables overlooking fresh flowers and lawns. This is a very well looked after business.

Yelp
A lovely cafe with great views of the gardens, excellent food and friendly staff. Perfect to relax after a walk through the gardens or just to enjoy the food / atmosphere. I had the autumnal version of their Super Food Salad with roasted pumkin, lots of seed and sprouts. Loved it, especially the pomegranate in it. They lost one star due to the fact that a 10% service charge gets automatically added to your bill. Even for just two people. I would've have given at least that as a tip anyhow, but being forced to pay it I insisted in getting back my change. Friends who had something in the cafe before we went into the gardens hadn't realised the 10% on their bill and given tip in addition. They weren't happy to find out.

Yelp
Avoca cafe was recommended by a couple of people and we decided to come to the one in Avoca village. The shop is lovely with their own handwoven blankets. And their food section was fab. We got some chocolate which was divine. The cafe itself was good too. Basic cafe food but all tasty & huge portions.

Yelp
What a great little cafe with a good selection of food. The staff were lovely and I sat outside in the sun although it was January. I had the best Duck pate that I have EVER had. The hot chocolate came with the little marshmallows AND with a stick of flake. Pure Heaven.

Yelp
Avoca's cafe was one of my favorite experiences of the trip. The mill is located in one of the prettiest areas and the mill tour was quite interesting and timely. The. Cafe has soups sandwiches and scones with real English cream and preserves to die for! The mill shop is worth perusing and the gardens and grounds are ripe for photo opportunities. Really loved this gem of a place.

Yelp
Can't get better than Avoca. Beautiful place to lunch. I visit every time I am in Wicklow.

Qype User (Hoodi…)

Yelp
It is a very unusual shop with beautiful items. A mixture of clothes, accessories, food, porcelaine and decoration items for the whole family. It's all made in Avoca itself and you can even watch the weaving! Very peaceful place with a nice café!

Beth L.

Yelp
Not just for tourists! I love Avoca Handweavers- especially the original mill location in Avoca. The setting is beautiful, the food in the cafe is consistently good, and their selection of merchandise leaves you wishing you had a bigger car boot. For traditional, Irish made items reinvented with modern twists, you just can't beat Avoca. I go here when I'm looking for gifts, when I want something new for the house, when I'm meeting girlfriends for lunch, or when I just want to be somewhere beautiful and serene. It's one of my happy places. :)
