Avon Valley Railway (Bitton Station)

We've been going to this place for years as it is a lovely walk from Saltford. The station is interesting for children and adults. They even have little pieces of railroad history near the food ordering bar. An actual piece of railway from the Brunel gauge rail!? Historic pieces all about trains!? It's got something for all the family and you can even dine in the carts attached to the building.

I had a fantastic time at the Avon Valley Railway Murder Mystery Night. The atmosphere was immersive, the cast were wonderfully engaging, and the storyline kept us guessing right to the end. The vintage train setting added a unique charm, and the whole experience was really well organised. A special mention to the volunteer staff – they were incredibly friendly and efficient, making the evening even more enjoyable. We were also pleasantly surprised by the food – tasty, well-presented, and far better than we expected for an event like this. A perfect mix of suspense, fun, and nostalgia – highly recommended!

This is a great little station to visit. You can take a ride on the steam/diesel trains when they are running. The cycle path runs parallel, so you can walk the journey and see the trains from path if you prefer. The carriages are old and made of wood. Very nostalgic and cool. The staff wear lovely uniforms and are helpful, polite and knowledgeable. There's a cafe at the station, a large car park, public toilets and a small playground a few minutes walk away. It's a great day out for both adults and children.

A lovely heritage railway with plenty of character! The volunteers are really friendly and knowledgeable, and you can tell they put a lot of passion into keeping everything running. The steam and diesel trains are beautifully maintained, and it’s a great way to step back in time. There’s a small café on site for a cuppa and a bite to eat, and the station itself has a lot of charm. A brilliant day out for families, railway enthusiasts, or anyone looking for something a bit different. Highly recommended!

Stopped for a mid ride coffee, on a sunny November morning. Friendly staff, great coffee and a superb fresh Bacon and Egg Sandwich. Sat outside on the picnic benches as the weather was fab, there's a huge marquee and loads of seating inside if the weather's rubbish. Flat paths towards Bath and Warmley for walking and cycling. Highly recommended 🌞

Beautiful setting, scrummy food and friendly staff/volunteers. I especially love the special events they put on, like the murder mystery evenings! Definitely worth a visit, or a stop off when travelling along the Bristol to Bath railway/cycle path.

Took our grandson on the Santa train. It was very good, although we waited 45 minutes after to see Santa, it's quite a long wait if your at the back of the queue, especially with a 3 year old

We went to the cafe train today. What we ordered was reasonable in price for the items, however when it came the salad garnish was nice but the main was very basic using cheap ingredients which then meant the meals were actually overpriced for what we received. Shame as we went there with the belief that everything would be worth every penny we spent. Left feeling rather disappointed.

Teddy bear's picnics, murder mystery tours, fun days out - all on a steam train! The railway runs from Bitton via Oldland and then onto the riverside. Steam train rides are around £6 - what a bargain. Have a spot of lunch in the buffet cart or chill out watching the scenery go by. Trips are super family orientated and bring the past to Bristol. The railway itself is blooming with wildflowers in summer and a link to history, restored to its former glory in the times of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. A chuffing good day out - choo choo!!

It's not until you get up close to a working steam train that you get sucked in by their odd beauty. Marketed as 'more than just a train ride' the Avon Valley Railway does indeed offer more than your average steam train ride encompassing a number of other possible activities. A mix between the new and the old the redeveloped train station itself holds railway artifacts, posters and old vintage signs. The murder mystery events - while a little pricey - are absolutely great fun! I hear on some days Thomas the Tank Engine even visits the railway!
