On the Grid : Avondale Common House & Distillery

"Offering creative takes on classic pub-grub as well as small-batch, house-crafted spirits and beer, Common House’s warm, rustic space with laid-back vibes is the perfect place to lunch with work compadres, fuel up before a show at Saturn, have a family night out with the kiddos (or a date night without them), or grab a beer and chill. From apps (Sticky Bourbon Maple Wings, Loaded Totchos, Fried Green Tomatoes) to bowls and salads (Salmon Poké Bowl, Grilled Peach Arugula Salad) to sandwiches (Chimichurri Steak Sandwich, Common Burger) to entrées (Slow-braised Beef Cheeks, Shrimp and Grits), the menu is as wonderfully varied as it is scrumptious. There’s also vegan-friendly options (Jackfruit Carnitas Bowl, Buffalo Cauliflower Po’boy) every bit as inventive as anything else on the menu. Even the shareable desserts (S’mores Pot de Crème anyone?) are vegan-friendly. They also do a Sunday Brunch with live music, and a Bloody Mary and Mimosa bar." - Lewis Communications

Got to brunch on their patio around 11:30 on Sunday, and our party of 4 were seated right away. The weather was perfect so we chose patio seating. There was live music, perfect for the atmosphere imo. Two adults got cocktails which they liked and I got a Ferus Ursa, a local favorite of mine. The food came out hot and quickly, and we all enjoyed our dishes. I had chicken & waffles and it was very good, but the accompanying fried egg was overdone and unnecessary. Overall, everyone was pleased and we left full and happy. We will definitely hit ACH for brunch again.

The food and drinks were great along with the service. Started with the loaded tots as appetizer and followed by a burger. The fries were unexpectedly GOOD! The burger was well seasoned and freshly cooked.

WOW! Great place with great food. I didn’t remember to photo it but the fried cauliflower appetizer is amazing. I would not normally choose to eat cauliflower but it was delicious. The pork belly, egg and cheese sandwich was amazing as well as the steak and smoked mashed potatoes. Highly recommend. Parking can be tricky during busy hours though.

Service and food were very good! Friendly atmosphere, and there is a full service bar. Parking was plentiful.

Not sure how anyone would give this place a less than five stars. Great unique food and great beer. Service was awesome as well.

Google
Phenomenal food tbh • very well impressed & priced pretty accurate for the quality. The (what seemed to be manager?) ensures every customer knew of Covid policy prior to entry, (nothing crazy, nothing hassle worthy so don’t let that change your mind!) which I personally respect. The only downfall is that for AL, the sweet tea wasn’t sweet, the lady who took our order was very much hover worthy until you just had to be like “HEY can I get a minute..” but timely food arrival & very hot! Would return as a local no doubt! ☀️

I have been trying to find the right words for this visit. A few friends decided to meet here for drinks and a quick bite to eat. One friend arrived before me, so she had a drink. Once I came in, I sat for about 15 minutes, and no one had come over to take my order, so I went to the bar to ask who was waiting on our table no one had been over. The bartender came to assist. He was very apologetic, I ordered a long island, and he brought out the drinks and took our appetizers order. Our waitress then came over to assist, we advised the bartender had already assisted, and we were waiting on one more person. The appetizers came out, and we got the southwest eggrolls. I was enjoying my drink and eggrolls, and out of my peripheral, I saw something on the ground crawl by... I looked around the chair, and just calmly scooting around was a freaking rat!!!!🐀 I jumped up and yelled I'm done!!" " Bring me my check now,you got a rat over there!!!" The waiter was so mortified and embarrassed, and he stated we didn't have to pay, again very apologetic. So it's a NEVER AGAIN for me. 😳😳😲

Working in Birmingham, AL for the week and it's dinnertime! So I did some Yelp'ing with my co-worker and he was craving a burger. I found this place, we came and here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set a little outside of downtown in a more urban, industrial-like area in this gem. The neighborhood was pretty quiet and we were able to find some street parking nearby. The Avondale Common House was smooth, welcoming and chill. I remember seeing the lights hanging on the roof and thinking, "yeah, I'm gonna like it here". Once inside it felt like an upscale neighborhood bar if that makes any sense. Lol. There were tons of stickers on the host stand and random license plates above it which gave it a more personal touch, like customers have come and left their mark. However, the bar looked modern, the tables are all wood with one-piece metal chairs and the ceiling had this super-cool wavy look to it! I had never seen anything like it before. Service: Riley took excellent care of us and I had no complaints. Food: I started off with the Berns Blackberry beer and it was delicious. It hardly tasted anything like beer. It had a fruity-sweetness to it and was moderately heavy. For dinner I went with their Common Burger. It contains 2 well-done smashburger patties topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, garlic aioli and a American cheese on a brioche bun. I added bacon and at the time, was able to substitute chihuahua cheese instead of the American. This was such a clutch sub because the Chihuahua cheese is creamy, with some great hints of acid flavor and it was super melty. The burger as a whole was delightful and quite flavorful. Value: Back then this burger was $13.00 and $1.50 to add bacon. That same burger now goes for $16.00 and it's still $1.50 for the bacon. Damn that inflation. SMH. But anyway, this place won't break the bank. It's a chill spot where it can be date night, gathering with friends or whatever. In conclusion, I really liked this place and I would totally pay them another visit if I'm in the area. You should check them out too!

Yelp
TLDR: Food was ok but small portions given the cost. Wouldn't return for brunch again. The Avondale breakfast plate was $15 for two pieces of mediocre bacon, what is supposed to be 2 eggs--but I ordered scrambled and was definitely shorted on the eggs, couldn't have been more than one eggs worth on the plate, breakfast potatoes that were approximately 4 seasoned waffle fries, and a biscuit with no butter and one little container of Smuckers grape jelly. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great and it definitely wasn't worth $15. Service was slow. It was Sunday brunch so I wouldn't expect fast but it was really, really slow and waitstaff ignored us the entire time. Hopefully other meals are better but brunch was expensive and mediocre therefore I wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
Saw that Common House was part of the Birmingham Restaurant Week listings. Came here with a friend last Wednesday, and honestly wasn't impressed. Located in Avondale next door to Avondale Brewing so parking is NOT free. It is paid parking, but there is ample parking for what it is. Inside is rustic looking. Full bar and tons of tables with space. The food was just okay. It didn't equal the price point at all. I shared Brussels with my friend, Meagan. Then we each ordered something different. She went full southern and ordered the country fried steak and I went full Floridian and ordered the shrimp tacos. As far as service is concerned, it was pretty good. We sat at the bar. We were given menus and the bartender checked on us periodically. Drinks we both order an alcoholic beverage. I got the very berry, which I'm sure I don't need to explain a whole lot but it was definitely bursting with berry flavors. This was one of those situations where the food was fantastic at the preview party, but when you actually come inside it really wasn't anything super special. I'm not sure I'll be coming back. Honestly it's mediocre at best.

Yelp
we experienced one of the worst dining experiences in recent memory. we ordered a common burger with bacon, well done and what was delivered was a charcoal briquette with no bacon. when we made a comment about the missing bacon she asked us if we wanted our check. She never came to ask if our food was good prior to then and never refilled our drink glasses. When the check came we were charged for bacon and we reiterated that we didn't receive any bacon. She stated that the $2 was for the burger being cooked well done. I asked to speak to a manager and when the manager came it was with attitude because I called the $2 charge for cooking well done bullshit She got all morally outraged. Clearly they have no concept regarding good customer service and although she removed the $2 from the bill she demonstrated no ability or desire to listen or ask how she could make it right. I left no tip and will not return. Diners beware!!

Yelp
This is one of my fav lunch spots! The loaded wedge and fried wings are my fav combo, but the brussle sprouts are a strong contender. Their cocktails are also pretty tasty. The bartenders cab typically run down the ingredients and help you pick something fun. It's really spacious so I love grabbing a seat outside and they even have covering for chilly days . I always leave full, satisfied, and ready to plan my next visit.

Yelp
Best SHRIMP & GRITS in the city by far!! Look no further than Avondale Common House for a savory, fresh and delicious brunch dish. They provide a large portion as well -- plenty to take home or share!

Yelp
Birthday dinner for a friend. Large party. Inside not crowded but server moving slowly. We placed drink orders then waited. We placed appetizer orders then waited. We finally placed entree orders and waited. Finally, Entrees were delivered one by one. The food was okay. The cocktails were okay. It was just okay.

Yelp
Listening to Mark Harper singer songwriter. Nice voice. Good music. Had a side waffle with cream cheese and fruit. Fruit was MIA. Waffle was good except for the glaze on top. Too sweet. Nice breeze today. Wonderful outdoor venue.

Yelp
We happened to be at Sloss for an event and stopped by Avondale Common House for brunch since we were close-ish. I am opposed to paid parking in Birmingham. Look, we aren't a "big city"... why do we impose the "big city" negatives on our patrons? Anyway. We were seated on the covered patio immediately (good sign) but waited for at least 10 minutes to be approached by our server (bad sign). We almost walked-out. When we we're acknowledged we ordered: * Sausage balls - I had no idea what to expect. But there are 6 in an order, they are exactly as they sound. And yummy. * 3 brunch BLTs - regular BLT with a fried egg (I should have ordered a runny egg) * cheese grits (delicious) * garlic potatoes (frozen potato product) * 1/2 a wedge (caution - romaine, not iceberg; ranch not blue cheese) * OJ - only brought a 1/2 glass for $6; when we asked our server about the 1/2 glass we were told that he was saving it for those who ordered mimosas (WHAT?! As of our order wasn't of "value") * spicy Bloody Mary (average) * Aperol Spritz (good, which there as some ice) The kitchen and bar were very fast. They use a hand-held order/pay machine for the servers. I hate these machines. It's rude to hover as I'm tipping/paying and literally no one else in the section can order and I'm "holding up" the machine. Additionally they add a 3.5% credit card processing fee... but because of these machines I can't get a receipt prior to paying to know if I have cash available. Add $.30-.50 to each item to cover the fee since I don't have much of an option other than paying with a CC.

Yelp
Yelp! Yelp! Hooray! It's date night! Every Friday! The rain has held off and this Avondale Common patio I'd breezy. Feels so good. Tonight is serious teamwork night. I have know idea who is really our server, cause EVERYBODY is waiting on us! Love it! Teamwork makes the dream work. Now about this food. For starters we got the buffalo cauliflower, Yum! Bae got the Smokehouse burger and fries. Good. I got the wings! Delish. Fried green tomatoes. Slap that cook! And, corn succotash. Never had it with black eyed peas, but okay. I see you guys got rid of the fried chicken, one of my favorites. But, these hot honey lemon pepper wings redeemed y'all. This food is good. Y'all already know, I'll be back.

Yelp
Huge difference. I'm chalking my previous experience to a bad day for the place. Gave it another go and everything came out hot and good. Have been back outside of brunch too and haven't had a bad thing there. It's growing on me. Staff is friendly. Kitchen looks like they are having a good time. I'll invite people here.

Yelp
Walked in, sat at the bar, said hello to the bartender who didn't respond, got a couple menus shoved at me and then no one returned. Another bartender walked by us and took somebody else's drink order at the end and all I saw was her back. Trash all over the floor too. We walked out. Oh well!

Yelp
I love this place, what a fantastic, fun vibe! We stumbled upon this place for lunch on ou way to the airport and we were glad we did! The shrimp and grits was simply world class! The sausage was smoked , it was so tasty with an unreal amount of smoked flavor I have never had any like it. The shrimp was delicious and the gravy was spicy and very Cajun , I felt like I was in New Orleans! The breakfast burger was also fabulous! Two 4 ounce patties with a fried egg and sausage gravy. It was a touch over cooked but it was easily overlooked. The desert was very disappointing, a upside down blue berry muffin with whipped cream and a caramel sauce. Overall a fantastic place and they even had live music. Definitely do t go here if you are looking for a quiet night out , it's fun and loud! And i was there For breakfast!

Yelp
I miss Wooden Goat. I hate Jam bands so much. Please make this establishment a Waffle House or something other than what is. The wait staff is nice but c'mon, the food is just okay. Give us free parking at the very least.

Yelp
RESTAURANT REVIEW THE SPOT Avondale Common House 4100 3rd Ave S Birmingham, AL 35222 Food Sweet Chili fried wings Common Burger with bacon and fries Let's talk about it!! The wings were delicious! That sweet chili flavor did what it needed to. The wings were fried just right and weren't soft or wet. The burger was basic. Nothing to brag about but it got the job done. The fries were the highlight of the meal! They were so good For my drinks I can't remember the names. One was a Camille or something like that I believe and it was horrible. That one had jalapeños in it and that was a no for me. The martini drink was delicious so I would definitely recommend that. Check them out and be sure to let me know what you think! Be sure to tell them #VictheCrit sent you! https://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=oHMOxoVT-HmY2ZDJXoAcvA&utm_source=ishare https://goo.gl/maps/b5EmjYrPQTMbvkF79

Yelp
What a treasure, what a find! A lot of vegetarian options here if you are that type. And even if you're not, the food is fantastic! Had to call the cook out of the back to shake his hand, because the fried green tomatoes blessed my soul!! They were a bit scared, but after I told them that he blessed me so much, smiles came across their faces! Excellent service! Excellent food! Great vibe! Don't miss this little treat! Will definitely be hitting the spot up again when I come into town next year for my annual conference!
google avatar

Yelp
I haven't eaten here since before COVID. They've always had good vegetarian options but I love the new menu. I ordered the Chimichurri Rolled Oat Wrap and onion rings. They said it would be ready for pick up in 8 minutes. It was ready add promised. I loved the doesn't flavors in the wrap. The slaw, black beans, and rolled oats were very complimentary. The onion rings were delicious. They remind me of homemade onion rings. The staff was very friendly.

Yelp
Bar area at the ACH Service was friendly and good. The food was good. No complaints from me! The burger was ok. Not as much flavor as I expected. Fries were great.

Yelp
The Avondale Common House is a comfortable neighborhood restaurant that has indoor dining and a spacious patio for outdoor dining. It features a full service bar that offers more than just the Avondale micro beers. The bartender can make your favorite cocktail or you can choose from an impressive list of specialty drinks. The food menu is very descriptive, and it includes a wide variety of dishes. Our party of four started with an order of the Buffalo Fried Cauliflower from the appetizer list. The cauliflower was cut into small bite-sized pieces. The pieces are then battered and deep fried with Buffalo sauce. The hot bites are plated with crumbled blue cheese and chopped green onion. They are served with a creamy buttermilk dressing. I liked that the Buffalo was infused instead of just a sauce on the side. The combination gave the cauliflower life, and I love the creativity. For my lunch entree, I ordered the Chimichurri Wrap. This sandwich is inspired by South American style preparation. The chimichurri marinade gives the steak a delightful flavor, a combination of herbs, garlic, and more than a hint of chili peppers. The tender slices of steak are wrapped in tortillas with a corn, cabbage, and cilantro slaw. This was an excellent choice. Linh ordered the 1/2 pound hamburger, Kristine ordered the Salmon Poke Bowl, and Jenny ordered the Shrimp Tacos. Everything looked good and I got some good pictures. Everyone enjoyed their lunches. Service was outstanding. Our waitress checked on us, and the runners kept our drinks and table cleared. I love the creativity of the chef, and he frequently tweaks the menu. He experiments and adds some interesting twist without going overboard.

Yelp
Great place, food and service. The vibe there is just the way I like it I do recommend the sprouts

Yelp
Very chill place. Slow in the afternoon during the week. Drinks made good. Decent happy hour. Pimento Cheese dip was more of a spreadable cheese ball than dip but it was good.

Yelp
I was in Birmingham recently for a girls weekend, and we decided to kick off the trip with dinner at Avondale Common House on Friday. Food: The restaurant serves what I think many would refer to as elevated bar food with a southern twist. I love bar food, so this is right up my alley. There were 4 of us eating dinner and three of us ordered the same thing, The Deep South burger. I was planning to go for tacos, but the mixed berry jalapeño jam called out to me. It has other southern classics on it: fried green tomato and pimento cheese. It was a HUGE and messy burger, but I liked that the patty itself wasn't too big. I got the fries and they were good. We also ordered the Buffalo cauliflower, and we all really, really enjoyed it. It was a lot to split for an appetizer even with 3 of the 4 of us sharing. Drink: Two of us decided on a cocktail. I got the strawberry (or maybe watermelon but I think strawberry) and bourbon drink and it was fresh and fruity. Not too sweet but also has the bourbon flavor in there. Would definitely get the drink again. Atmosphere: I want to comment on this because it was very loud in the main part of the restaurant. For many people, this may not matter. But it is definitely not ideal if someone in your party struggles with hearing issues or you are on a date and want to really be able to have a conversation. We were lucky and got seated on the covered/enclosed (bc of weather, I assume) patio area. The noise level was much better, in my opinion. Overall, I would recommend this for parties of no more than 4 and as a place for a elevated casual evening night out. Also, the Avondale neighborhood is seeing a lot more nightlife, which is a great opportunity for the Birmingham community.

Yelp
We had a delicious meal here while passing through. I am vegan and had several options. I loved the fried green tomatoes and also liked the vegan nuggets & fries. My husband thought the hummus was perhaps the best he had and also raved about the salmon, which was a generous portion. Service is was quick and friendly. We are on the patio with our doggie. I am writing this review mostly to make sure I don't forget the name of the place so we can come back next time we pass through.
google avatar

Gantt W.

Yelp
Excellent food with the service to match! Great location, sports bar type place. Ask about the pimento cheese, a must on anything you order!
google avatar

Yelp
Five stars for the efficient and friendly waiter. Five stars for the Char-grilled chicken, I would definitely get that. Tender and flavorful. Sides were cooked well as well. Four stars for the Loaded Totchos, perfectly crispy but overdid it a bit on the cheese for me. The bacon topping would have been a lot better if they were crunchy. Three stars for the veggie plate. Brocollini and potatoes were cooked well and flavorful. The vegetable confetti was blend and they were indeed so tiny you can't tell what you are eating. Two stars for the buffalo cauliflower. Mostly super tiny pieces, not sure what's going on there. Then the larger pieces weren't fried through. I am assuming they had to accommodate not burning the tiny pieces, so the breading wasn't cooked through on the larger pieces and it was pretty awful. Definitely would not recommend that. I would go back and order their chicken and tots...but get the cheese on the side so the tots would remain crispy. Only paid parking directly next to the restaurant, even the area that you would think is a part of the restaurant. A little odd, so pay attention you pay or risk getting towed.

Alexis K.

Yelp
trey and tina are the bomb! best most awesome people ive ever met! the food is amaazinnngg and the drink options are crazy! but mostly go for trey and tina!!!
google avatar

Paul T.

Yelp
Fun vibe but super busy. The parking lot is a bit small to accommodate all the folks who like to go here. The food is fresh. They offer lots of vegan options. Everything seems to have a "special touch." If you like brunch, you need to go to their Sunday brunch.
google avatar

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Had Sunday brunch today for Mothers Day and it was wonderful. The food was excellent and so was the service! They also had live music which was a real treat! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
We have been here a couple of times and have been very pleased. The food is excellent. We had the Bourbon Salmon and Shrimp and Grits. Both were delicious although I would highly recommend the shrimp and grits. Parking is easy since there is a lot beside it that uses Park Mobile. Easy access to Avondale Brewing for events!

Yelp
3.5 star round up for good service I've been meaning to try Avondale Common House for a couple years now and finally set a date during this past Bham Restaurant week. My partner and I both did the restaurant week menu and basically got the same thing. We split the buffalo cauliflower appetizer, he got the Asian crunch salad, I got the strawberry summer salad, both got the char-grilled steak, and split the oreo cheesecake cup. I think my favorite item was the salad. My strawberry summer salad was fantastic and I could eat huge bowls of that. The Buffalo cauliflower unfortunately had really heavy breading so was hard to taste the cauliflower. The steak was pretty good and I really enjoyed the broccolini (this was the first time I had had broccolini), but the entree overall was a bit salty for us. Lastly, the dessert was a very interesting take on cheesecake. It seemed more like a mousse than cheesecake. I'm not sure if I would get it again. I'm glad that I got to try a bunch of items through Avondale Commonhouse's restaurant week menu. However, for my personal preference, I'll prob just stick with the salad next time.

Yelp
I know I make a lot of jokes when I write my reviews but I sincerely would rather get kicked in the chest from a bucking bronco then eat at this place again. There is no flavor to anything. I got the salmon, Twas flavorless, it came with rice and green beans also flavorless. It is as tho this place has Invented a form of "de-seasoning". Multiple people In my part we're displeased with their meal. Just go to the bbq spot next door. That shit slaps.

Linda C.

Yelp
We went there during lunch time. First of all the their AC was down with only fans running. Food was very mediocre but the bill was overpriced they added 20% tips on top 5% service fees too. Seemed they were recovering their AC expense on the customers that day. The place is a daylight robbery joint.

Tracey M.

Yelp
Exceptional service, food and ambiance. The shrimp and grits were excellent! I've never had a mediocre meal there. The drinks are great and the bartender is epic!
google avatar

Randy L.

Yelp
Warning- stay away!! The beer was the only thing good here. Even that came with a warning as the first glass brought to the table had an "unknown substance" of a very questionable appearance on the INSIDE of the glass... the hamburgers tasted like cheap frozen pattie's and the brussel sprouts were literally scrapings of leaves doused in what tasted like a cheap maple syrup. This was the first and last time we'll be visiting this place. Memorable in the worst of ways for a restaurant

Yelp
Stopped in here after a long drive from Nashville. the Braised Shortrib was just what the doctor ordered! The Buffalo style cauliflower was an amazing start! Chased it down with a white chocolate moo moo stout and the Mrs enjoyed a tasty spicy cocktail called "Violet Nights" which was recommended by Alex, out amazing waitress. I even loved it and I am not a foo foo drink fan! :)

Yelp
Hey, not bad. Group of seven of us needed a place for a quick bit, a venue for us sitting around and saying truly witty things. The booze was poured, the orders taken, and the food delivered piping hot. And the food was good, as long as you recognize it as bar food. Really good bar food, but bar food nonetheless. And that's totally okay, because that's what we were in it for. A couple of minor quibbles. One, the noise. The music was coming in over the speakers a trifle hot, making it hard for a large table to have conversations. Two, the air conditioning works really, really well. As in fur storage. My wife made the mistake of wearing some filmy short-sleeved kind of thing. Big mistake. Parking in the 41st Street district is a bit problematic these days, a victim of the area's success. We typically park up by the baseball field, but with little league in full swing that night (See what I did there?), we had to park in the paid lot. And that paid lot is awfully pricey. But, hey, I'd go again.

Michaela N.

Yelp
Just moved to the area and tried this place out with my friend. They had decent happy hour specials. I really wanted a chicken sandwich with cheese but the cheese was forgotten from my sandwich. The waitress did a great job correcting the mistake. The sandwich was good but not great. I enjoyed their fries and homemade ranch. The overall atmosphere was nice and we enjoyed sitting on the patio eating. My friend is vegetarian and got a burger with a beyond patty and really enjoyed it. If I go back I will definitely get the quesadillas because they looked goooooood.

Yelp
Visit BHam 3-4x a year and ACH is a GO TO for consistency of food and beer - wine selection. Try the buffalo cauliflower but get it with Kung pao/Asian sauce - OMG! Also the corn tortilla tacos are legit!

Yelp
I have long wanted to try Avondale Common House, but every time I've tried to go there has been a considerable wait. We met for an early dinner as a part of restaurant week although we didn't pick any of their meals from those options. I got a watermelon man when I arrived and it's a very refreshing summer drink. I ordered the burger as I was starving and put in an order for a second drink before the food came out. I got the cranberry drink and it didn't come out until after we had finished our meal which was a bit frustrating. The drink had no flavor and was terrible. I think it was missing something. I did enjoy the burger, but what I really enjoyed were their fries. I would give this place a 5 if not for the drink and the wait for it made me debate between a 3 and 4, but I decided to go with the 4 since everything else was good minus the wait for drink and bad taste.

Yelp
I don't know why I haven't been here yet but I still be back! The menu is somewhat limited but food choices look good and we all liked what we ordered. I got the chimichurri steak sandwich. It was really good. A little heat but not much. It was packed with flavor. My friends got a salad, shrimp tacos, and wings. Everything looked great and I didn't hear any complaints about the food. The one thing I didn't like is that if you want something to go with your sandwich, it's an extra charge. Seems silly to me to not just include it. There was a lot on the menu that I wanted to try. Desserts looked great. I look forward to my next visit.

Yelp
I would like to immediately jump into how great our server was. (Sam)mie had such a great presence about himself. His energy was spot on and he didn't miss a beat throughout our whole first experience here. If I could give a 3.5, I would. Service was great. The food was on the border of a hit and miss. Food - We tried the hot wings (buffalo), buffalo cauliflower and shrimp tacos. The wings were actually my favorite and we ordered a second serving. They had a nice crisp to them and the chicken was not dry. I did not personally eat the cauliflower, however, our friend was overwhelmed with the amount of blue cheese that was on top. She did enjoy it after taking some off and dipping it in ranch. The shrimp tacos were pretty good, but were on the salty side. I'm unsure if this was due to an error of the day or if that is the way it is meant to be. Drinks - My girlfriend and our friend ordered the pineapple upsidedown cake inspired cocktail. If you are into sweet drinks, this is a great selection for you. The cocktail was pretty spot on to the dessert itself. My gf also had the spicy strawberry margarita. She was a little taken back by sriracha being used, but that is also why she wanted to try it. lol She enjoyed it! I ordered the Starry Night which was good. I also ordered an old fashioned which was my least favorite out of all. It was overly sweetened and came out almost the color of watered down ginger ale. We plan on going back to try out the Sunday Brunch which seems to have really great reviews so I'm excited about it.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday game day and were pleasantly surprised. The service was exceptional but the food was most definitely the best part. It was cooked to perfection, especially the fried chicken. I would 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
First, the neighborhood and vibe of space. Great. Second, the service. Great. Third, the appetizers and food. Great. Get the blood orange IPA, and cauliflower and beef cheeks. You won't be sorry, I promise.

Yelp
So I'd give them a 3.5. The food was a 4 and the service was a 3. Came here with a group while traveling and we needed outdoor seating. I got the Deep South burger and it was delusions and for $15 you get a lot of food. Double patty , pimento cheese, onion rings. Great. I will say the burger was slightly overdone. The fries and ranch were amazing, I ordered side of ranch and it did take some time to come out. My friend is allergic to shellfish and asked if they could do shrimp and grits with no shrimp, they said yes. However, there was contamination because our friend got sick shortly after eating it. It was good but not coming back it wasn't... additionally we order a beer. Three of us got the same drink. One of the beers was a different color, we let the waitress know the color was different. They said they would ask the bartender and he came out and said he just finished feeding his dog on his break and he was clearly high. He proceed to hold our two drinks next to each other, the one ordered and the new one they brought. He stuck his finger in the beer- not sure what he was attempting to decipher. It was a very odd interaction. The bill came and we had divided it up but some of the charges were incorrect which took another 15 minutes to fix. Again, food was really good overall. Service was very odd.

Yelp
We had a great time here. It gets 5 stars for a combination of food, service and atmosphere. They take reservations so call ahead for parties larger than 3 or 4. They have seating inside and outside. It's not that big of a place but they are accommodating. My favorite thing we order were the appetizers. The kung pao cauliflower, Korean wings and loaded tots were amazing. I recommend if you come with a few friends to order mostly appetizers and split them up. Our waitress had a lot of personality and was so helpful and attentive. They have vegetarian and vegan foods in their menu, so there is something for everybody. All the food we ordered was made with quality ingredients. The prices seem fair for what you get. This place attracts people from all backgrounds and ages. However, I wouldn't say this place is a family friendly place. It's more of a hangout place with good lighting but kinda cramped. Maybe a good/casual place for a date or group outing. Parking is limited but not impossible.

Yelp
This is my new favorite place for brunch. Their shrimp and grits is the best I've had in a long time. The service was phenomenal. I sat at the bar and they were so nice and friendly. Sad I forgot their names. They have a good special on mimosas. We also had the breakfast nachos. Delicious. I would probably swap the bbq sauce for salsa next time. We will be back.

Yelp
So much fun for brunch!! Met a dear friend to hear another special friend play music while we enjoyed our Sunday brunch. Couldn't have asked for better food or company. It's crowded though so get there early!

Yelp
This restaurant replaces the Wooden Goat. It is run by the Avondale Brewing franchise now owned by Good People. As expected they have all their beers on the menu and serve classic American fare ie. hamburgers, BLT's, flank steak, Tex Mex, rice bowls and salads. The service was good and for such a small kitchen the food came out fast. I went with a standby, a hamburger with bacon lettuce and cheese. I got a side salad instead of fries. I ordered the hamburger med rare and actually got med rare. Which is rare as most restaurants cant seem to do anything better than well done. My wife got the BLT. You can't go wrong with this one bacon and pimento cheese together. An awesome combination.

Yelp
I've been three times now. Twice for brunch, one time for lunch. The place is a welcomed addition in the Avondale area filling the hole that was left by the Wooden Goat. The real only thing keeping me from giving this place five full stars is the service. It's not that it is bad, it's just terribly slow while they work out the kinks. If I see an uptick over my next few visits I'll modify the review. Menu - solid spattering of brunch items including some Benedicts (where this city really struggles). The first dish I tried was the pork belly benedict. Great flavor but they were super stingy with the actual PB. Hopefully that remedy that. The breakfast "Totchos" are solid appetizer and likely an invaluable hangover cure. Parking - It's Avondale...could go any way. Price Point - It's on the high side of pricing for Avondale, but not out of the realm of affordable. I keep seeing changes to the menu while they figure out some things. Ambience - It's essentially the same as it was when Wooden Goat was in the space. I enjoy the vibe and like they are using more of the patio. Definitely worth going at some point when you're in Avondale!
