Awesome Canteen

A very unique dining place to visit with old charm being infused with the modern day coffee joints feel. Serves great coffee and cakes coupled with some meals like pasta and burgers. Their key lime pie is the best seller and really taste good. The sour of the lime coupled with some local flavor gives the light feel of a great dessert. Great place to be in the morning as they serves breakfast too.

Last Visit: June 2017 Had the vegetarian/vegan option: Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Sauteed Mushrooms (RM18.90). Generous amounts of mushrooms, well-seasoned. Good price. Ambience is casual and chill, "canteen" setup.Hence, the canteen-like steel stools (may not be best for the elderly) . Prices are slightly on the higher side (perhaps due to being in the heritage-touristy area), but not unreasonable. Would recommend for good western food at a casual space with friends. However, parking is definitely difficult to find in this area especially during weekends and holidays.

The place itself are huge and well ventilated. It has industrial vibe to it which is super cool. The burger is superb, chicken patty was so juicy combined with fresh lettuce, cheese, saute mushroom and caramelized onion. Curry and coffee are alright.

This is such a nice place for gathering, hang out with friend for all night. The healthy dinner is just nice, portion is not too big or small, taste is ok for me, not that best. Overall, the feel here is awesome just like its name. Recommended for gathering or held any party.

The restaurant is spacious and suitable for big group of people. However the long table width is narrow where your plate will be very close to the opposite person. The food is decent but a but pricey. The building is old time shop lot which give you some nostalgia feel.

Not quite as Awesome as last time I visited (3 years ago) as the Barista has the day off so they didn't have any coffee today. However the fresh Pineapple juice was sublime, and the atmosphere is still amazing along with the superb urban decay look they have fully embraced! Definitely worth a visit.

Courteous staff, knowledgeable and forthcoming. Great coffees, as is the food. Chicken and fish dishes from their paleo diet menu were interesting, desserts not so great but this is compensated by the drinks - lime kyuri is excellent for the hot weather. Top marks for distinctive design and imagery, certainly a great place to chill out. On hot days a couple of fan blowers to move the air would do wonders for the interior environment

A small pit stop to relax amidst a bustling tourist street. The ambiance is a mix of nature and old industrial warehouse design, the feel of spaciousness as if you're in a small park. It is very comfortable and will give you a "peaceful" feeling. The service is also swift and at at the same time friendly and warm. They offer a wide range of artisanal coffee, from cold brew to filtered coffee, and also a variety of coffee blends. The cakes there are of decent quality and taste and warm food are served there as well. Pricing is also decent considering the quality and the location. Overall a very good cafe experience for me. A must visit if you ever go to Penang touristing around.

This was my favourite latte in Penang - not at all bitter and perfectly crafted. Its a huge space with lots of seating (some more comfortable than others) plus free wifi. Order from the waiter then pay at the cashier on your way out. There is free wifi, and the Paleo menu looked intriguing.

My second trip to Awesome Canteen. Visited for the first time a few years back and was satisfied. Thought I'd bring a friend to celebrate his birthday here. Turned out a disappointment. Loved the industrial deco still but let's face it, I was there for the food. Firstly, everything on the noodles list was not available and so was the grapefruit drink. No big issue. I ordered others. Sweet potato fries Chicken gyozas  Burger with mash Risotto Starfruit juice Avocado juice Sweet potato fries and risotto came alright. Juices were nice. Chicken gyozas came hot off the pan but the meat within the gyozas were raw. Sent it back for a new serving and ordered another starfruit juice. The new serving of gyozas came similarly raw, so we told the staff to cancel it and take it off the bill. Waited, waited and waited. The starfruit juice never came. So we gave up and asked for the bill and the gyozas were still on it. I understand such mistakes can happen during peak dinner periods. But there were only 2 other tables besides us so there was no excuse.

Connected with spacebar coffee, this place offers quite a broad selection. Very interesting interior as well. There's several famous street arts around this place, go get refreshed with their Java or tea selections before you go on art hunting!

Great little (okay, not so little) cafe. I would give it 5 stars but seating is uncomfortable so I didn't want to linger. And maybe that is the whole reason it is uncomfortable?! I tried the burnt cheese cake and that was awesome! Not really sweet, but a heavier than normal cheese cake that really hit the right spot for me. I got a whole milk iced latte which was good. All in all a good place to hang out and get out of the heat for a little while!

Great large space, effortless shabby chic, lovethe trees growing inside of it. Very good coffee
