Axel Hotel San Sebastian

Great location near to all attractions but quiet. Well appointed, spotlessly clean throughout. Not the cheapest, but would say it was good value overall. Very good breakfast, great variety and with excellent coffee and served in a lovely bright room. Good facilities with spa and pool. No bar, but not an issue with so many nearby and a fully stocked mini bar in the room. Great staff, especially Vasti at breakfast. Always smiling and helpful. My husband had a massage with Rosi. She was an absolute gem. Best massage he ever had. She was so lovely. Superior rooms....on the plus side, nice balcony. Bathroom design odd, but kind of works. Good shower. Only issue was the bed although comfortable is at an angle and as others have pointed out, there is no real bed back so you can't really sit up in bed. Also very little storage and TV has no english channels. Despite this, we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend if you are coming to this beautiful city.

We were looking for a hotel that we could easily get to from the train from France and back. We liked the location and the staff that greeted us were friendly and efficient.|The room is fashionably sleek, but may need some getting used to as it is not a straight line to the bathroom at night --as I did bump into the glass enclosed showers one night. I liked the sauna and pool facilities

Our stay fully confirmed the great first impression. Everything was perfect ,comfort, cleanliness, location and atmosphere. The service was outstanding throughout . Special thanks to Daniel for his exceptional support and attention, which truly made a difference. We would definitely return and highly recommend this hotel.

I had a lovely time in San Sebastián, and my room was great — very clean and comfortable. The only challenge I had was with communication at the reception. When I was trying to sort out my early flight from Bilbao, Nefer unfortunately wasn’t very helpful, which made the situation a bit stressful for me. Later, Raquel stepped in and was incredibly kind and efficient — she quickly found a solution and made sure everything was organised. I really appreciated Raquel’s support, and thanks to her I could relax and enjoy the rest of my stay.

This hotel had a great profile with accepting everyone and providing a spa very relaxed and calm for adults only. Also the rooms were nice and equioped with bathroom, separate shower and separate wardrobe. The snacks were nice and best quality of wine and champagne. Our adult daughter had a balcony with a nice view and both rooms were spacious with good beds and also fridges. We used the spa and saunas, and loved it. The perfect hotel for couples, older people, family of adults like us or friends groups, with no noise from children and lovely environment. The breakfast was amazing and we actually regretted only staying one night. San Sebastian is an old town, but we felt refreshed & modern after staying at Axels!

The staff are super friendly and very helpful to assist. The issue is the internal layout/ structure of this hotel. Rooms are compact, lighting is poor, the split bathroom between shower/ clothes hanging area and sink area which has the only mirror is not user friendly. The lighting in the bathroom sink area is also poor, I had to lean into the mirror to see myself shaving as lighting poor. |The roof pool while nice is very small. |The no bar and having to more order breakfast, I understand this because there are some amazing local places to eat and drink so why would you want to eat/drink in the hotel- it is a financial business choice for the hotel group which didn’t bother me to be honest. |Bed and pillows not comfortable and air con unit is over the bed so it was either too cold or too hot in the room when in bed. |Room layout is akward for 2 adults with the little space to open suit cases and less space to hang clothes in the shower/ bathroom area. |Room was clean and public areas very bright but there are better places in Donostia for this cost.

Rude and couldn’t care less reception staff. Breakfast staff should not be in a customer facing environment. Shouting “room number” across the breakfast room when you arrive and don’t know what to do or where to go as no clear instructions. No bathrobes available as they had “run out”. Room basic without rugs or pictures reminded me of student halls and basic ones at that. Not even second rate hotel just an excuse for one given the money we paid and don’t start me off on the dogs. Not even asked if we enjoyed our stay at check out just told “nothing to pay” and that’s it. Tried to contact Axel hotels via email and private message but no response hence this review. Won’t be back or recommending. Please Axel hotels when you read this dont bother to respond you have had your chance and will just be wasting each others time. Forgot to mention there was one good thing about this hotel it’s when we left.

We were welcomed by Liam who was super helpful and lovely and went through some recommendations and personal favourites in the area. They also helped us with the car parking and general info. The location was great for us and for getting in and out in the car to the rest of the Basque Country and the rooms were well decorated. The rooftop and the spa downstairs was an added bonus for us.
