"Bustling Tavern in a Historic Location Ayingers Inn is a bustling tavern in a historic location. Be sure to try the "Weißwurst" (white sausage) served naturally with, what else, Ayinger draft beer. The Ayinger Brewery is family owned and is located approximately 25 minutes south of Munich . Outdoor seating is also available in summer, as is Wi-Fi."

Absolutely loved this place & staff so much that we went back twice, on two consecutive nights. After sightseeing in Marienplatz, we finished the day with beers and great traditional food. Tim, the manager, and staff were friendly, warm, receptive, and enjoyed having us as guests. Tapped a keg at 6pm. Great place in a Central Munich-cheers to the wonderful staff!

They have a special beer they tab fresh every day at 6pm. Finish really fast. We loved our server orianne. She spoke very good English and her recommendations about the food was right on target. We had beers. We sat outside. It was July .

The food, atmosphere, and vibes were al terrific. The food was delicious. Meat was moist, and the sauce was delicate. The dessert was phenomenal. I'm glad that we ordered two because I wouldn't have wanted to share with another person. The ice cream tasted as if it were made fresh in-house, berries were so fresh I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that our waitress had gone and picked them herself. Amazing experience.

Google
Came here after being recommended by the locals. Ordered veal escalope and Bavarian pork roast according to some of the popular recommendations here. Food was decent after trying multiple local dishes. Experience was underwhelming as 2 of their staff were rude since we were not their ‘guests’. Once was when we had to place an order, second was when we had to get the check. “I’m not your waiter” was how the staff got each other’s back instead of “Let me get your waiter” or “Please get your waiter”. Personal waiter did a great job in recommending the beer options and was patient.

“Great place! Very good food, but not only that – amazing atmosphere, excellent service, and we really appreciated the waiter’s sense of humor 👍 Delicious desserts, good beer, and to top it off, a kind of pear-infused moonshine/grappa with an outstanding taste. Fantastic evening. Highly recommended!”

Google
This place was good enough we came back a second time. Much of that had to do with the waitstaff that made this such a good experience. I had seen Ayinger Bier at home in the US and because of that we stopped in. Ended up having a German version of a charcuterie board that was excellent. Beers were all good. Second night we had dinner, and it also didn’t disappoint. Some of the better prices around, good food for a good price.

Google
This was a beautiful dinner with friends, favourites were the asparagus soup, gnocchi, crunchy fried chicken and the shredded pancake. The shredded pancake, we had a bite and were raving about it, the sides were delicious and we also got a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the side! Beautiful service, lovely atmosphere and live traditional music 🎶 💕

This review might only be relevant for Asians rather than other English speakers. This was the worst service I’ve ever experienced. The food was average and definitely not worth the price. The schnitzel wasn’t juicy, and the batter was separated from the meat. The atmosphere was cozy, but the waitress with long, dark-blonde hair had a terrible attitude. As soon as she realized I wasn’t ordering a drink, she slammed the menu back onto the table. Throughout the entire meal, I wasn’t asked even once if everything was okay, while a couple of elderly ladies next to me were asked at least twice. I also waited at least 20 minutes just to get a takeaway bag. The waitress ignored me and instead prioritized preparing beers for a group of Germans sitting nearby. I’m genuinely curious whether the difference in service was because I’m Asian or because I spoke English. If that’s the case, you should clearly indicate “Dutch Only” at the entrance of your restaurant.

Yelp
Loved it! Perhaps it was the good schnitzel I had as a recovery from the lady place but generally, this was agreqt spot. The hostess was so sweet greeting me and helhelping me find a seat at the bar. A few folks had just paid their bill so rather than me trolling around, she had me wait at the front and she did the trolling for me. I had some schnitzel which was superb . It came with roasted potatoes which were possibly the BEST potatoes I've ever had. I'm sure it was all about the spices and not the glistening bitter they were roasted in. The bartender was a bit hard to crack but I sensed he had a long night serving overserved morons. He was really delightful when you get to know him. And, he's a fast and accurate tender so I'd prefer that. If you can find a spot, I recommend this place. But, it's busy all the time so come early.

Yelp
Just came here with my husband for lunch. This place is near my hotel. There are many tables, bar with christmas decorations. They have special dishes for Christmas which is duck and goose legs come with celery salad, red cabbages and glazed chestnuts. The duck skin is very crispy. The glazed chestnuts really amazed me. Service is fast. Our server is extremely nice and friendly. We followed his recommendation for food and drinks. Definitely will come back

Yelp
Went here after dinner for few drinks since each has a special taste. Ayinger has some really fantastic non filtered beers which are my favorite. The atmosphere is nice and cozy and bar area big. Will be back.

Yelp
I was delighted to find that this location is stone's throw across the plaza from Hofbrauhaus. I've long been a big fan of Ayinger beer, and now I got to experience it direct. I enjoyed the Bavarian Pumpkin and Vegetable Curry, paired with the Ayinger Urweisse (dark wheat beer). We sat at a table with umbrella in the plaza, despite some intermittent rain. This is where most patrons were seated, making for a lively atmosphere. Quality would be one word to sum up the experience. The construction, decor, food and beer are top-notch.

Snake G.

Yelp
Tourist trap with so so service and rude and arrogant waiters. Slow slow slow. Never got a certain order after asking twice.
google avatar

Simone S.

Yelp
Stopped in for an afternoon libation and to watch them tap a keg. Pretty cool! Great selection of beer and the keg is a special blend offered daily for a limited time. Service was great and the ambiance inside was cool. I did walk through the dining room on the way to the bathroom and that also looked like a cool space. There is outdoor seating when the weather permits.

Yelp
My flight from Munich was cancelled which gave me a wonderful opportunity to explore the city for 24 hours. I found this amazing place through Yelp and had an amazing schnitzel lunch, a beer and a tasty pancake dessert dish. Great atmosphere, service and food. I will definitely come back on my next visit.

Yelp
A bartender actually recommended this place to us and we made it our last dinner of our trip. Yes, it's right across from brauhaus but don't let the proximity to a high tourist spot fool you- food was delicious and classic Munich food. Pictures of dessert below which I recommend you save room for. Schnitzel was great.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and service. I have had Schnizel all over Germany and Austria and this is one of the best.
google avatar

Yelp
Most amazing meal of Wienerschnitzel, käsespätzel, kaiserschmarnn, and of course beer. Great service, great ambiance

Yelp
We had a lovely meal at Ayinger am Platzl. Attached to our wonderful hotel, The Platzl, we found the both the service and patio atomsphere charming. Our server was sweet and accommodating. My husband had the schweinbraten and I had the zwiebelrostbraten. Both were exceptionally tender and juicy. We enjoyed it very much. We would most definitely eat here again.
google avatar

Rolando N.

Yelp
If you are in the mood for authentic German food, this is the place. Wide selection of beers and wines plus their own brews, including some seasonal blends. The Pils was excellent. For dinner we had the German sampler for 2. Wiener Schnitzel, Roasted Chicken, Spätzle, potato dumplings, seasoned burger, and so on. This plate had a little of everything and the portions were outstanding. The preparation was on point and simply delicious. Service was friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Our last night in Munich and we stopped here for dinner because the man loves a German band. The food was absolutely delicious - we shared weiner schnitzel (real - made with veal), spatzle, and German cabbage and enjoyed the music as we ate.
google avatar

Shuang Z.

Yelp
I loved everything we had here! Traditional Bavarian food. The braised calf cheek is extremely soft! Almost melts in your mouth. The calf head was tasty too, especially when combined with the tartar sauce. The shredded pancake is a must try for desserts. We loved every bite of the dinner. Service was good from a German standard. Tables are well spread out. Not too loud nor packed than peer restaurants. Very easy to carry a conversation here.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice place, service was good and beer was great. We only enjoyed beverages as we were not hungry but we enjoyed the atmosphere.

Bob G.

Yelp
Superb dinner here tonight, our last night in Munich. We started by sharing the pretzel with spreads and it was a great intro to the evening. Every night they tap a keg and sell beer from it, so good I had to my wife had pike fish, which was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed, the slow roasted pork dinner. And to top it off, our server was superb, she was very busy, but took wonderful care of us and answered all our questions we had reservations and we put in the back room which was a little less busy than the front.

Adam K.

Yelp
This is my favorite Bavarian Brewery, nice to have an outpost near the Hofbrau House so you can do the tourist thing and then have some amazing beers and food. The service is friendly, the ambience inside is classic and the outside seating is fun. Their seasonal beers and unfiltered beers are always great, the food at this location is pricey, but well worth it.
google avatar

Marida G.

Yelp
Way less chaotic than the next door Haufbrau hous. I had crispy duck. It's delicious.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Fabulous service! Delicious lager from a barrel! Even though this restaurant is in the heart of the tourist zone, they deliver great German food. Loved it!
google avatar

Thomas M.

Yelp
Only had beers here, but I think my surprise top beer of the trip. Just really refreshing and crisp, and the atmosphere of the place was sort of a quiet, small beer hall. Staff made room for us, and brought us our beer right away. We ended up staying for an hour and would for sure go back. If you're looking for a smaller experience than HB, come here.

Daniel R.

Yelp
Got us in without a reservation on our second night attempt and it was delicious. Great schnitzel

Yelp
I went here with a tour group and received a pre-set meal including a soup, entree and dessert. I got the onion soup, which did not look appetizing at all. Every spoonful was half soup half oil. It was incredibly salty and oily which left a weird feeling on your lips. While the taste was good, it was a little hard to enjoy simply due to the look and feel. The pork was drenched in gravy which made it taste pretty good. However, the texture of the potato dumpling was pretty terrible and I couldn't even eat half of it. Finally for dessert was an apple pastry which a vanilla sauce which was easily the highlight of the dinner. However, my nut free friend was given a whole apple with a knife as the dessert, which was hysterically terrible for them to serve in my opinion. Overall, the food was okay, not great, but good. As far as the restaurant itself, the place was kept very clean and it was decorated in a traditional German style. The staff was a little curt, but I am willing to give them to benefit of the doubt that it was just because we were such a large group, and that this is not how they usually are.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Beer-5 stars, food-3 stars. The beer was good, they had a summer one that was refreshing. The food looked good but it wasn't the best. We shared a sampler platter. It came with two cheese spreads which were tasty, a crackling fat one that was pure fat and not really edible, steak tartare, salami and meat as well as bread and radishes. It was interesting.

Yelp
For anyone visiting from the States, this is the place to go! Forget about the "popular" brewhaus across the way with long waits, bad food, and horrible service - Wirtshaus Ayingers is AMAZING! We had a group of 5 celebrating a birthday, and they treated us like kings. They even brought out a limited release schnapps and did shots with us! Everyone's food was to die for (get the schnitzel, you won't regret it), and the desserts were perfect.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Sure, the place across the road has a reputation, but it was packed, so we decided to come to some place a little quieter, and more laid back, and it turned out to be this place. I guess they make a roaring business that way but hey, it suited us just fine. Sure enough, the prices were pretty good, and you certainly get to try some of those famous Bavarian beers (especially the ones in the big glasses). The food was also pretty good, and certainly not the huge portions that you apparently get elsewhere. Yeah, I liked this place - chilled, laid back, and reasonably quiet.
google avatar

Weldon W.

Yelp
Located across the brick paver street from the historic Hofbräuhaus München, this upscale German pub features an in-house produced lager that's aged two weeks in oak kegs. Light and flavorful it was the perfect compliment to my Rinderfilet, which was a perfectly prepared filet covered with mushrooms and a side of delicious roasted potatoes. The portions were healthy and the atmosphere was festive. All around good choice!
google avatar

Alisha H.

Yelp
Great alternative to the touristy Höfbrauhaus. Party of two was quickly and courteously seated, no waiting. The service was quick, almost choreographed, and pleasant. The food was authentic, not pretentious and delicious (I had the duck, red kraut and potato dumplings). Definitely an option in the Platzl!
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
Delicious traditional food, great beer and a lively patio if in season. Our favorite dinner in Munich!
google avatar

Hamid E.

Yelp
Great food and beer! The horseradish soup is a must have! We tried it because of other recommendations on Yelp. It was AMAZING! I will crave that soup. The schnitzel was great too. The UR-weizen dunkel was very very good!

Yelp
Providing an alternative chill atmosphere to the Hofbräuhaus spectacle across the street, Wirsthause Ayingers is where you go once you check Hofbräuhaus off your Munich bucket list. Being so close to an iconic landmark can be both a blessing and a curse - I'd like to think for Wirsthause Ayingers it's mostly a blessing. Yes, most of the foot traffic will be in Hofbräuhaus but even a small percentage of people wanting to avoid the crowds would easily fill up this place. My fiancée and I, after the visit to Hofbräuhaus, decided to wander across the street to deflate, grabbing some reasonably-sized beers here (not a complaint as all of the beer in German is magnificent). They have a great tap selections of German lagers, Hefeweiszens, and Dunkel beers that have a richer flavor profile to the lagers you're going to be drinking most of the time. Very laid back and more intimate, Wirtshaus Ayingersis a nice respite from the raucous Oktoberfest crowds. We didn't get a chance to try the food, but I would drink next door for a bit then come here for a beer and food.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
What a great spot! While on a recent trip we were on the hunt for a great German breakfast on our first morning and found Wirtshaus. This, like most other restaurants, is open seating so you have a to scour for a table. Once we landed we were greeted and immediately brought drinks, I was happy to see a split of bubbles on the menu. We also ordered a huge bowl of white sausage and a few other dishes to share. Everything was delicious and served quite quickly. The only downfall was our placement of seating, we were there in August during a warm time- and with most of the windows closed and no real circulation in the rooms it got a little warm. All in all, a must go to in Munich!
google avatar

Christopher S.

Yelp
It's hard to believe this little spot is just feet away from the tourist destinations...but it is! A great local spot! This is a great local restaurant that has wonderful beer and food. And the cost is about 25% less than the other (ahem) tourist places next door. Service is fast and friendly. They serve their own beer, and I really like it! Try the Dunkel (dark beer with a sweet taste), or the special brew they have with its own mug (hint: every beer comes in its own special glass....that's just how they do it!) For dessert, try the Apple Strudel, it was heavenly! The food is good and fresh, and the prices are surprisingly cheaper than the spots next door. Give this spot a chance, you will be happy you did!

Yelp
Great service with hearty food. A little pricey but worth it. Across from the famous Biergarten.
google avatar

Katherine S.

Yelp
Another one of the best restaurants in Munich! It is also another one of my personal favorites. Located in the Platzl hotel, my group and I stopped by for lunch after a long day of doing a tour. We did not wait long for a table. It took us less than 5 minutes to be seated. Above our table, the light is beautifully decorated with what looks to be Christmas ornaments of pretzels and hearts. At the bar, we saw a bartender tapping a beer barrel. And all the staff are dressed with dirndls and lederhosens. Our male waiter was very friendly and helped us pick what to drink and eat. I ordered the Frisch Gegrillte Kartoffelwurst which is grilled sausage partially filled with potato. Looks can be deceiving because my small plate of food, definitely filled me up. Lastly, everyone had a liter of the Ayinger lager beer. I recommend this amazing place. You will not be disappointed with their food, drinks, and overall wonderful setting.
google avatar

Aaron W.

Yelp
I came here after a brief visit to the HBH and I am glad I spent most of my evening here instead of there! The older gentleman running the bar was quirky and friendly. He also spoke great English and offered me a sample of some incredible schnapps when I inquired about this giant, mysterious bottle that he was pouring from on occasion. The beer was incredible and frothy, so full of flavor. Pure and clean. They have six packs of the lager or wheat to go for very nice prices. 12 oz bottles. The space is great and inviting. It is one of the more personal and relaxing spots in Munich that I visited.
google avatar

Sarah E.

Yelp
We stopped here as we enjoy Ayingers and the Hofbrahaus was an absolute mob scene. I am very glad that we did. This was one of our best meals that we had in Munich. We started with the bacon and onion tart. It came with two decently sized slices. It was fantastic! It also came with a small salad, which was a nice change of pace. My husband ordered the veal meatballs. They came with a brown gravy and a potato salad. The potato salad had a nice amount of vinegar in it, which gave it a great taste. I had the beer brats which came with sauerkraut. These were some of the best brats/sausages that I had during the entire trip. They were so good that I hated sharing them with my husband. The serving size was good- not too much but still enough to have a good portion. This place is seat yourself, so be sure to move fast if you see a table you want!
google avatar

Sidney Y.

Yelp
Probably 3.5 stars rather than 3. My wife ordered a schnitzel, which was good. I ordered the haxn but it wasn't what I expected. It was described on the menu as being traditionally prepared, which I took meant roasted. Instead, it came breaded and seemed to have been baked. I didn't really care for it but it was my own fault.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Solid food for sure and if you want bavarian cooking this a good place in the martezenplatz area. There are lots of more touristy places but we really liked this place. I threw my low carb diet to the curb and did a few pretzels that were the best I had in Germany. Al dishes were good. If your in the area this is one I would go to over many of the other ones.
google avatar

Yelp
I ended up eating and drinking here a few times while in Munich. First stop was just for beers at the bar - wandering in here on a hunch during a thunderstorm-soaked afternoon, and finding solid beers, decent service, and good company at the bar, we stuck around for a few .5l's. We totally didn't even realize that we happened to have a dinner reservation for this place that very same night that we had randomly made the day prior. So a few hours (and a nap) later we returned for a meal. Food was tasty, service prompt, and again, beer good. The following day, looking for a quick, easy place for an early dinner, we stopped back in. This time to try the spaetzle gratin that we had seen going out to a few tables the day prior. Also the pork roast in dark beer sauce. The spaetzle was really quite good. The pork roast tasty, but the potato dumplings were really glutinous. I would have preferred the pretzel dumplings instead. Again, service pretty decent for the area of town we were in. Overall I'd definitely recommend this place for both meat eaters and vegeterians. They do have a vegetarian menu with a few items, and at least one vegan item. Hard stuff to come by in the land of meat.
google avatar

Hannah K.

Yelp
Shnitzel was very tender and well seasoned! The service was a bit slow (Sunday evening around 830), but the waitress was pretty friendly. Overall, good experience.
google avatar

Reagan C.

Yelp
The food was awesome. We ordered the feast for 25 euro a person. It came with a variety of food. All of it was good. Duck, sausage, and roasted pork. Just dive in and eat until you burst. The beer was great as well. We ordered whatever the waitress said to order. Would have given 5 stars but the dessert took a long time to come and was not good. But if you go for dinner, get ready for an awesome experience!
google avatar

Jamie W.

Yelp
I didn't even realize pork could taste as good as it did until I had the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin medallions. Pork wrapped in more pork, sign me up. Skip the insanity across the street, if great food is what you're looking for pop into this place.
google avatar

Campbell R.

Yelp
Good German food but does not have any vegan options as another reviewer states. All " veggy" options, upon closer inspection of the menu, contain eggs and/or dairy.
google avatar

Giovanni M.

Yelp
Game stew had overcooked venison. The dunkel was very average. Service was ok. Would not return nor recommend.

Michael K.

Yelp
Changed entire menu one month ago. Dropped traditional foods. No options for children. Inedible cuts of meat. Also, dirty beer lines in Munich, which is almost unheard of. Must be a new owner. Use to be great. This restaurant has definitely hit rock bottom.
google avatar

Justin A.

Yelp
Beer Stop 127 ---- Beer Only Review! This is one of the better traditional German beer halls in Munich. It doesn't feel overly touristy and there does seem to be a good mix of locals and tourists on any given day. Their Doppelbock is absolutely incredible. The service is always friendly. The locals are always approachable. The vibe is also very cool (tons of wood, old world feel). Oh yea, did I mention their doppelbock?
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
The best schnitzel I've ever had....very tender. Great service too. Roast pork is awesome as well. The side dinner salad is one of the best I've ever had. Roasted potatoes are terrific too. Yes, it is all very good. The beer, however, is only average. Once you've had Augustiner, there is no substitute!
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
Really good beers, great space. Located right across from Hofbrauhaus, but it's much chiller and more elegant. Bartenders speak english and are on top of things. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Munich.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Great service. I had the stew which had lots of meat pears dumplings and potatoes- very tasty. My wife had a pork loin dish that was also very good . Washed down with a local lager. Pretzels were a little hard but ok. Overall a very good experience.
