Google
We stopped by this beach bar specifically to try the paella, as locals had recommended it as a popular spot for great paella. We were definitely not disappointed – the portions were generous, with both prawns and chicken. The atmosphere itself lacked a bit of coziness, but it’s understandable given the large number of guests and the goal of serving everyone as quickly as possible. It was interesting to watch the staff working so smoothly and as a team, with each person focused on their own tasks. I would definitely come back here again for the paella.

Google
Fresh Paella at the beach. The portions are big for what you pay. A plate of paella with chicken and shrimps is €10,- Wich it’s full of. The staff is friendly and you’re served quickly.

Google
Loved seeing the huge paellas being made. Tasted very good too. A perfect place for lunch on a beach day.

Google
It’s understandable to see locals mourning the loss of unlimited paella but as a tourist this place was amazing. 10 Euros for a big plate, cooked over an open fire pit, ready instantly, good chicken and shrimp, rice flavourful but not oily, delicious!

Google
Beautiful place with amazing views. The staff were nice and friendly. The salmon and entrecote steak were nice but the 1kg steak in the bone was at first undercooked so it was taken back and cooked a little more but it was full of sinew and fat so we actually left more than we could eat and the only winner with that was the dog as we took the bone home for him.

Google
Really good place. Basic seating, no frills service and great value paella gets my vote. It's not a posh place and it's not fine dining but it is decent tasty food at a good price and watching them cook the paellan for s an experience. Eat here

Google
High reviews online so we decided to see for ourselves. Well worth the walk from Nerja to get here. Absolutely lovely food, we both had paella and a salad. Swift service and a stunning view of the beach and palm trees. Wonderful!

Google
Simply the best Paella in the world. Having tried Paella elsewhere and usually been disappointed, Ayo's is without doubt the best, cooked over an open wood fire . Great food and great atmosphere situated right next to the beach as well. What more could you ask for.

Yelp
Fresh food, good service, and the best views of the beach. This is the place to go for fresh paella made daily out in the open. Beautiful views of Burriana beach while you dine and enjoy your lunch. Recommended for lunch if you are visiting Nerja.

Yelp

Yelp
Hot damn. This place has the best paella mixta I've ever had in my damn life. The rice has so much freaking flavor and just the right amount of grease (the good kind). All the seafood was fresh and the pork was so tender and delicious. Portion sizes are nice and big. Goes well with a nice cold cervezita

Yelp
Absolutely excellent in every way. We are on our 3 week traveling in Spain and waited to get the best paella and sangria today. Happy customers from California!

Yelp
What a great experience!! Easy walk from the bus stop (arrived from Malaga) and worth it to get away from the crowds near the Balcon de Europa. We arrived on a Saturday at about 2. No problem getting a table but it did start to fill up fast. We were waited on immediately by the nicest, funny, best personality gentleman ever! How does he stay so happy when it's so busy here?! Ordered a beer and a tinto verano and it came right away. We ordered the house salad and two orders of seafood only Paella. They will dish up your servings without the chicken. Our salad arrived and was large enough for three. It was only 4,65!! Then came the Paella! Oh my what generous servings too!! We had no idea that for 7,50 you get UNLIMITED plates of Paella. Yes you do. Ours came with a generous amount of fresh shrimp (whole, you peel). It was very flavorful. We sat near the fire pit and was able to observe the cook and the servers. And the fire Bering stoked. So fun. And the added bonus was we got to see AYO himself cutting lemons, stirring Paella and serving up numerous plate full of his goods! Such a fun place. Great location RIGHT ON THE BEACH! This is a must do when in Nerja! AYO is an icon. Been here cooking Paella since 1969!

Yelp
This 5 Star review is more about quantity than quality...plus this beach joint has been a Nerja institution for over 30 years. Ayo himself was in the very thick of battle on this day, cooking up the giant platters of paella. €7.50 buys you never ending plate of Ayo's shrimp and chicken paella. Is it the best paella you'll ever have? The top 10 paella of Spain? Probably no and no. But its still pretty darn good and tastes homemade, and I somehow was able to consume 3 plates of this goodness. Each plate had about 3 shrimps, and plenty of chicken. If you do the math, that's only €2.50 per plate! Is Ayo even making any money from this? We also ordered a salad for about €4 to have a more balanced meal. After some salad, 3 plates of hearty and tasty paella, and few glasses of sangria I was ready for an afternoon nap(siesta?).

Yelp
This place was right on Burriana beach in Nerja. They are known for their paella, so I had to check it out (I love paella). The paella was exquisite. It had chicken, clams and a few shrimps. The portion was more than enough for one person and the price 9 euros, a bargain for such delicious dish. We also had a couple of glasses of tinto de verano (wine and club soda) that were very refreshing since it was hot day. I'll definitely be going back before my vacation ends. I'll like to try the calamari and the gambas pil pil.

Yelp
We went for the Paella, it was tasty with beer and wine. Fast and good service, not a fancy place, but I am looking for the good food! Paella was a big plate for 9 euros.
google avatar

Alisa Z.

Yelp
Came here followinf Rick Steves' book recommendations but I wasn't super impressed. 7.50 euro gets you all you can eat paella- they give you really large plates but the paella is kinda meh. Just rice, shrimp, and chicken. Don't think I would make a trek again

Yelp
We went here because my in laws rave about it, but I have to say this place wasn't really that great. I was looking forward to having the sardines on the bbq, but it was ala plancha. Although the sardines were large they lacked the flavor I had expected. Also my husband and I both got Stomach aches after the lunch. My advice is skip this place and go a few restaurants down to Monte mar!

Yelp
Hurray for €6 all you can eat paella!!! It's not the most amazing paella but for the price and the great view of my favorite beach, I won't complain. My Malagueña friend explained to me that this chiringuito became very famous because it was the film location of the telenovela called "Verano Azul" which was popular in the 80's. It's fun to watch the chef cooking huge paella over wood fire in the open air. Good for people watching, this place is buzzing with people enjoying the lazy summer afternoon. I heard they have free flamenco shows at night, it must be fun!

Yelp
Since the restaurant is mentioned in several travel guidebooks, we decided to give it a try. From the Balcony of Europe, the restaurant/Burriana Beach is probably about a 10-15 min walk...so we elected to drive there (parking along the beach is free). It's located at the end of the boardwalk of several restaurants right on the beach. In terms of the paella, it tasted just ok. Each plate probably has a couple of pieces of each item (shrimp, chicken, etc.). In terms of saffron, we couldn't really taste it in the paella. So if you're hungry and want to pay a reasonable price with a nice beach location, then Ayo's is the place. But if you're looking for quality paella with quality ingredients, then look elsewhere and be ready to pay more. Finally, the way it works is...you seat yourself and a server will eventually come to you to take your order. And remember to bring cash because credit cards are not accepted.

Yelp
It was a good Paella and nice personal! Itvwas closed but they still took the last order. The place is not very nice but the prices are very good! Nice to try!

Yelp
We arrived in time to see the first pan of the day being prepared. We were not disappointed a nice sightseeing event. Several minutes later with a glass of sangria for my wife and a cold San Miguel we received our first heaping plate of paella. Only complaint is that the chicken was over cooked, tough and dry, even the dark meat. Something we have noticed in several of the meat portions of our meals while in Spain. The San Miguel was cold the Sangria fruity. A nice lunch. We sat at a table just off the walkway and watched all the beautiful beach people. By the way, paella here is all you can eat. The restaurant is quite large and under cover so no worries from the sun.

Yelp
I'd heard good things about the paella but I can't say I was impressed, there is a lack of flavour compared to other paella's and if rice and chicken is your thing then this is the place for you. Worth a visit just to say you've been here but don't expect the best paella in nerja as this is not it

Yelp
Everyone talks about the unlimited Paella which is great!! But the tuna and avocado salad was delicious!! Ayo seemed to be in a grumpy mood but the servers were very friendly. A place you cannot miss if you are in Nerja

Yelp
The setting on the beach is perfect and the paella was excellent. The pitcher of sangria and the beer left nothing to be desired either. La cuenta was reasonable. It is a large establishment and does not take credit cards. Service was prompt. We recommend it. The paella lunch is apparently all-you-can-eat, but I stopped after one plate in hopes of being hungry for tapas in the evening.

Yelp
I wanted some paella while we were on the coast of Spain. I saw a Rick Steve's program on this region and he recommended Ayo. It's on the edge of the beach and is very large. They had a huge pan of paella cooking when we walked in . We got some and it was great. You could go back for seconds and the price was about half of other places. They only take cash. This is a good stop and well worth your time. We went two different days!

Yelp
Saw this place mentioned on a popular American tourist PBS television program (who shall remain nameless) and cannot emphasize enough just HOW GREAT this guy's paella is. I had 3 plates full, and seriously considered coming back the next day for more. The atmosphere is really great--right on the beach with shaded canopy, complete with the paella being cooked in huge pans over an open fire. The sangria was also great. If I ever return to Nerja, I will come here again.

Yelp
Came here for the famous paella and boy I was not disappointed. I didn't even know it was unlimited because the portion was huge. It's a really hectic restaurant so just try to be assertive and don't be afraid to just sit down at an empty seat. It's really fun to watch the paella made right in front of you too.

Yelp
Travelled to nerja from Malaga to spend the day at the beach. As soon as we got there, we headed straight to Ayo's. Coming to around €6.50 per person, and being refillable, you can't go wrong. The paella was served quickly and was piping hot and tasted fresh. The waitress was patient with our lack of Spanish and Ayo himself gave us a smiley welcome. Would love to revisit and would recommend to anyone visiting nerja.

Yelp
This is the real deal. Great paella and cheap. Good service and location. Some of the other restaurants were so much more expensive. Rick Steve's was right.
google avatar

Yelp
Ambiance is nice, food is overrated as the paella is a bit too greasy.

Yelp
We expected a lot because of all the reviews and guidebooks. Atmosphere of restaurant was weird and not cosy, seems more like a fast food. Though we looking forward "the best" paella ever. Taste wasn't bad at all but presentation was horrible. Anyway it was 7.50€ for endless paella, we could expect miracles. In conclusion we were quite disappointed.

Yelp
This place is known for its yummy paella , though the Sardinas and other Spanish tapas are so good. Wednesday nights, they do paella and flamenco evening. Beautiful seething right by the beach
