Ayothaya Floating Market

This place had mixed reviews so we were a bit uncertain about visiting it. In addition, the floating market there is created for tourists not a real floating market. But we were pleasantly surprised by several aspects. First the boat ride that came with the entry ticket (80) gave a good overview to the whole place. Next, the food selection was good and of very decent quality. It was either priced competitively or just a tad above non tourist places. Third, the shops selling clothes and other items were priced competitively, definitely no tourist pricing. In addition, the selection was good and many of them spoke English. Fourth, there was a free show (in Thai, which we didn't understand), presumably about the thai people's historical fight against foreign domination. It has worth the entrance fee. We didn't participate in the elephant section because we noticed the elephants were chained at their ankles and they didn't appear to be well treated. This impression may be wrong as I don't know much about elephants. But I was not comfortable with what I saw.

Personally, I've always loved floating markets as they have a sober and relaxing feel to them. Ayutthaya floating market is a very nice place for a day out for couples, families, etc. There are some decent restaurants by the river side and you can also shop around for small items. I liked the massage shop there, their foot massage was very relaxing. Also consider taking the boat ride with your family☺️. They have the elephant ride right outside the market area..

Great floating market but a bit annoyed that thai citizens are free but it costs 200thb for farang, admittedly you do get boat ride thrown in. Market is mainly food stalls with a few clothing and gift stalls to browse. All in all a pleasant enough experience.

This is a wonderful place to visit on a quiet afternoon. There are many shops/stalls selling all kinds of things, from ice cream to shirts to souvenirs. The best part for me was the actual getting to the market, which involved an optional(?) motorised canal boat ride which took approximately five minutes. The water is beautiful, and so are the wooden huts, walkways, and bridges. I managed just fine limping with my walking stick, but I don't think it's wheelchair accessible, and the boat ride definitely isn't. This is fairly standard for Thailand, though: disabled access is rare. Hopefully this will change over time. Still, it gets full marks from me.

SCAM SCAM SCAMMITY SCAM SCAM - This attraction is the quintessential engineered tourist trap. The entry ticket of 200 THB for foreigners is 2.5 times the price of entering the entire old city complex, which actually provides value. The attraction is poorly maintained, opens late (we arrived by bike from across the river at 9.05 and it didn't open till 9.10). Our Thai friends were ashamed by how crap this place is, and even the staff seem embarrassed by how pathetically fake, and poorly operated the whole thing is. Do yourself a favor and skip it. To add insult to injury the elephant camp across has some of the most sad and bored elephants I've seen in a while. I love Ayutthaya, and come here often, it's one of my favorite getaways, but the floating market isn't worth your time.

An opportunity for my wife to ride an elephant. The animals appear to be well cared for and happy. The Mahouts will try to get extra money for taking your picture and selling trinkets. We had an excellent meal at a restaurant there too. I had a hot Mocha coffee which was not hot or nice.

Not bad to visit. But be sure to visit during weekends, during weeks there is nobody, the please is rather death. However, there are elephants you can see, feed and drive of you wish.
